TWRP & Official OTA - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Today I just received a system update notification, so I click update without even thinking.
But after OTA was downloaded, the phone was rebooting into TWRP, I suddenly realized that I didn't restore the stock recovery...
So I guess the update should probably fail, however, I saw TWRP is under going some OpenRecoveryScript process instead...
After a couple minutes, the process finished. So I choose reboot in TWRP, then the system started up successfully (took a long time).
And it seems that the system was updated successfully as well...
So TWRP is now supporting official OTA? Or is there some magic tricks going on?
My m10 is SuperSU rooted (systemlessly) and with TWRP installed.

It does not work on my htc 10, TWRP 3.1.1.0 update from 2.41.401.4 to 2.41.401.41

[Q] Will OTA updates make me lose root access?

Hi - I installed an OTA update that forced me to restart during the initial setup. Once I rebooted, a prompt for a second update came up. Since then, I've already rooted my device without downloading the second OTA. Will I lose root or TWRP if I download the OTA?
I didn't. It just booted to TWRP and then I rebooted into system and still had root.

Failed OTA update for Oxygen OS 3.2.1 on OnePlus 3

Hi all, I have just recently purchased a new OnePlus 3 from one of the distributors listed under OnePlus's website. I've been waiting for the 3.2.1 OTA update for a while and its finally in my region. However after it finishes downloading and I press install, the phone reboots and after a while it would appear a screen which says "Installation Failed" with nothing else but a Reboot button. Can anyone shed any light on this potential problem or is it isolated to just my device? Is it possible for me to completely reinstall OxygenOS on the phone again? (wipe the phone and reinstall android + oxygen's). Also when I bought the device and first booted it, I noticed that there was some apps already installed( apart from stock google ones). These looked like malware to me and it doesn't allow me to uninstall them(from app drawer or from settings), is there anyway i can uninstall them as well?
Thanks in advance
I see no one replied to this topic, sadly. I am experiencing exact the same issue. Currenty I am on OxygenOS 3.1.3. When I go to system updates it says OxygenOS 3.2.6 is ready to download. I hit download, it downloads, reboots but then it says the update failed and I can only reboot.
Anyone knows a solution? Would be nice if I could update my phone
if your bootloader is locked and you dont want to unlock it, then you can download the full rom from oneplus's official website and sideload through command prompt. instructions are available there on their website.
If your bootloader is unlocked and you have latest twrp, just use the below link to download the full rom and flash it via twrp.
if you want to do a clean install with twrp go to wipe the select everything and wipe. this will delete everything on your phone including the os. remain in twrp and connect your phone to your pc and copy paste the rom in twrp folder in your phone and flash it.

My oneplus 3, 3.2.8 ota will not update and fails. Device was rooted but is now unrooted w/ stock 3.2.7 w/ twrp recovery. I also flashed back stock recovery and still the ota fails to install. Any idea how to fix this or why it is happening? Bootloader is unlocked as well.

Try using moded twrp from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/guide-how-to-flash-3-5-4-cb-breaking-t3482572

Can't update to newest ota.

I have a system update available, but whenever I try to flash it, it ends in an Error 7 in TWRP. The stock rom, I did a factory restore on it. But it was rooted with magisk, and phh superuser before I had to do the factory reset on it. Could it be some of the SuperSU stuff is left over and that is why it keeps throwing that error?
you've provided zero information about your current setup and what version you're updating from/to
you could be talking about OOS OTA updates or CM OTA updates or even a custom CM-based ROM OTA update for all we know.
Sorry, it is oxygen OS, version 3.2.4. I think it updating to version 3.2.5. I did a factory reset, and have not rooted or anything with the exception of flashing Twrp.
Flash patched TWRP via fastboot.
Tried to side load it, it still failed with error 7.
Edit: It looks like I am trying to go from 3.2.4, to 3.2.6. But still not sure what if stopping me from being able to install the update.

[HELP] can't OTA update my phone anymore !..

hey guys, so i have a 64GBs Oneplus 5T and i rooted my phone 1 year ago with magisk using fastboot And TWRP. i used to get OTA updates and i was able to update my phone always. when i recieve an update i would remove TWRP , flash back the stock recovery and remove the root, update my phone then get them back. and this method worked many times.
right now i cant do this anymore. when i download the OTA update and it finishes the reboot the upgrade button doesnt work anymore. tried aswell to update it manually using local update the local update button doesnt work. tried putting the zip file to the internal storage and flasing it with the stock recovery from internal storage , it doesnt work aswell it doesnt even browse my phone .. tried flashing the ota zip files with TWRP it gives me "updater process ended with error 7"
right now phone works perfectelly fine, i have access to stock recovery and TWRP aswell. BUT iam unable to update my phone anymore.. any advices?

hi, without knowing your device-status, i recommend updating TWRP & dont forget 'disabling' MAGISK inkl modules before flashing (possibility of bootloop)!!
OREO - twrp-3.2.2-x_blu_spark_v8.83_treble-op5_op5t - flashing PIE with this TWRP will end up in an "compatibility error" [you have to remove compatibility.zip inside the OTA]
PIE - twrp-3.2.3-x_blu_spark_v9.91_treble-op5_op5t
my steps are: download OTA > go to MagiskManager -- 'restore images' > reboot into TWRP -- flash OTA.zip (wipe C/D)+Magisk18.1+[Kernerl] > reboot -- updated and MagiskModules are enabled

Question Issue with the March update

So I had Magisk. I uninstalled it via the app, preformed a system update, then avoided the reboot, installed Magisk on the OTA partition and rebooted. This got me into fastboot mode multiple times until my phone booted. Now I booted up and I am in the Feb update partition with no Magisk. How do I root and update without losing my data?

Since you are having problems with updating via OTA, suggest either using flash-all method or Android Flash Tool to update to March build. Then patch boot image using either Canary 24301 or Stable 24.3. Make sure to disable mods before rooting.
No such thing as a match update

I would use the Android flashtool and download the factory image , patch the boot image then flash it in fastboot. No loss of data, just make sure you don't check any of the boxes like 'wipe device' or 'lock bootloader' in flashtool settings
I just flashed March. Used all old school flashed with latest adb and fastboot
Disabled all the magisk modules just in case.
Patched March update boot file in Magisk
Had the update for Magisk and did not do it at this point, as I had heard people having issues with that.
booted into bootloader Flashall.bat removing -w
booted into phone, waited for update to finish in the notifications.
booted phone back into bootloader, installed magisk boot image
Booted phone back up
enabled all magisk modules
Updated magiskapp, then updated root via direct install
Rebooted phone
And all good
