Do you know if and when we might get Android 8.0 (Oreo) for the Moto G5. According to Android Central, the Motorola G5 series of phones will get 8.0 Oreo. The only problem is the G5 doesn't even have 7.1.x

no - its a blog post on a Motorola forum - of course android O is "expected" but don't "expect" to have it by Christmas
The Motorola update page (official) hasn't even been updated since the release of android N
Now can we stop with all the update threads please
Why do you want us to do with the update threads?

They confirmed it. Look at my thread. Release unknown.

Threads asking about OS updates are like spoiled milk. Everyone makes the same face when they are opened, and the only thing you can do with it is pour it down the sink
Let's not fill Xda with threads asking about OS updates; Xda has 7 million + members running 2 gazillion different devices, that no one knows for sure when their OS update will actually happen, UNTIL they actually drop the update

So, I recently saw a post on reddit that said the first and second generation android one devices will get Android N. What do you guys think ?
As per 2 years update promise, if Nougat launches in August, we have a chance of getting it. Let's hope for the best or wait for CM14
Yes we will get "N"
Google has promised us.
But one bad news is that after that no big update.
Other then security patches.

today android n is going to release..... but i don't know it is a rumor or true...!!!
Any updates on Android N? They promised 2 year update, but our 2 years will be completed on September 2016. Maybe we are expecting too much but still if anyone gets any update, please share

Exactly brother... now we are like "abdicated" by "GooGLE"
So yes, I see on TV these a news about Android Oreo that just released this month. Seems interesting, but I had a question:
Is there an official Android Oreo for this device?
Thanks for the advance. Sorry for my bad English.
nope. The last release they did was the final version, maybe some security patches but thats it unfortunantly.
We probably will be getting custom 8.0 roms though

Saw on the Nextbit forum on Reddit that Android O is being discussed so hopes up that they'll decide to update.

oh that would be nice. I read somewhere that they would only do security patches and that 7.1 was the last major update they would do. I hope what i read wasn't true because it would be amazing to have an official 8.0 build

Here is the thread where a Nextbit rep said it's being discussed. It would indeed be great to have an official 8.0 build.

OK, thanks. I need to turn on my VPN first because in Indonesia Reddit is blocked.
Wish I found out about this sooner. I already ported my my device to Lineage OS 14.1 build, and now I await the Lineage OS 15 build with all its new optimizations and features built from Android Oreo.

Hardware support has ended, but software support goes on until February 2018. I think O will be the last manufacturer update we see.

Will they Treblized it on Oreo updates..?

I honestly doubt they will, but I'd love to be proven wrong! Treble will enable such great things for our device
Hi sorry if this has been asked before but new to the Moto g5 I purchased the device from Argos so it has the retgb software channel I have looked on Moto website and it doesn't give exact information about software update for UK g5 so I'm asking is there anything at all for the UK g5 there is no update what so ever stuck on 7.0 1st January patch
I've got the G5 3GB Dual Sim version from Amazon UK, also retgb, i'm on the same patch as you. Jan 2017.
Looking on the Motorola forum's, it seems our retail devices haven't been updated at all.
If there is no update when you select it from the about phone section then there is no update
Updates roll out in waves & is based on
Phone variant
Region
Retail or branded/carrier
Security update is available for some variants in certain regions
When will you get an update? No one at xda (or even Motorola support) would be able to tell you so no point in asking
Other than security patches there's no other improvements
So am I best off going custom on this bad boy

They didn't ask when an update will come out, they asked if anyone had received an update on that channel. It doesn't seem like an unreasonable query to me.
Hi,
Currently I'm using Samsung Galaxy S9 (SM-G960F) (Build number: R16NW.G960FXXU1ARC5) (CSC: BNG). I didn't get any updates since I purchased the phone. Recently I checked for update from Samsung Smart Switch and it's shows a update is available. So I updated my phone. After installing the update I check the software information of my phone. Then it's shows that the security patch level updates was released on 1 March, 2018. When the December update is already rollout.
Now I want install One UI by flashing my phone. Is there anybody who can help me to do that?
Thanks in advance.
Plenty of people, go read the OneIU and Pie Beta threads

You didn't look, read.
Hello everybody,
Title says it all, I heard the requirements for flashing an Android Q GSI was increased, does the Lenovo P2a42 still manage to get away with it? It runs Oreo and Pie just fine, with the Treble enabled, but that's about it.
Source: https://www.xda-developers.com/install-android-q-beta-gsi-project-treble/
The build.prop says my current ROM is running Treble, however the other 2 tests mentioned in the source show false for me, and I'm not sure if I did it wrong, or my current ROM simply didn't support it, or is this phone finally meeting its end? Can it handle Android Q's requirements or is this the end?
Thank you for your time.
You are thinking way too much. Just enjoy the moment and don't stress much dude. When Q is released, we will know it. As long as the devs are interested, everything is possible.
Is there any full supported a/b methodology?

LineageOS dev also announced he will be working on it soon, see the other thread on here

At the moment, Bootleggers 4.3 is the most stable Android 9 ROM for P2. No Android 10 is at its level due to stability issues.
