So I was following the instructions for the root, and am at the TWRP part where I select the zip file I placed onto the drive. When I go to install I see a ton of listed folders, but can't seem to figure out where the heck the zip file is I put on the device, I had dropped it into the root. Any help with this? I can not post in any other forum.

So you didn't put it into any of the folders? Scroll down the zip should be at the bottom. Otherwise reboot and recheck that the file downloaded.

Here's the thing, I can't find ANY of the folders that are listed when I open the internal stoage on my PC. At the top of TWRP it says "Internal Storage (0mb)" The folders I see are boot, cache, data, datadata, dedv, emmc, etc, external_sd, internal_sd, license, proc, recovery, res, root, sbin, sd-ext,, sdcard, supersu, sys, system, tmp, sys system, tmp, usb-otg . So confused.
Sigh and when at the bootloader or whatever it looks like I don't have access to the internal storage via my computer. Just shows up as "Android" on my PC.
I "Copied log to SD", it says it copied it to /data/media. When I go into the file manager. That location doesn't exist. Nothing inside that data folder....at all.

I didnt understand your problem really well. Try clicking in internal sd folder and you should see zip otherwise at the top of twrp where you select storage select again internal storage and it should popup if i understood correctly.

There is a folder by the name "0" which you can find in TWRP and also from the File explorer. Place the SuperSU.zip inside the "0" folder using file explorer and they try to locate it from the TWRP. It should be visible then.
It worked for me, hope it does for you too.

I experienced a similar problem with my nexus 5x and ended up on this thread from google search. I got it working after entering the password at password prompt, when phone started to boot into recovery. This decrypted the storage and mounted it, before booting to recovery. If I didn't enter a password and skipped it(hit cancel and moved on), then in the recovery I see that storage and sdcard as 0.
Hope this helps someone.

It díd help someone, me
I was doing the same thing, cancelling this password prompt, I thought it was a encryption thing instead of a decryption thing (should read better).
Now I can access all files again on TWRP, thanks!
EDIT: I thought a bit more why this happend: it is of course because we activated the option 'ask pattern unlock before booting android', which is an option in the Nexus 5X welcome screens.
So I assume TWRP needs that pattern as well to access the Android folders once it's activated.
Also: I had to click the '3x3' option in the Password screen to make the pattern responsive, in case that's a hint someone looks for.

Where did you see it asking for a password? I have booted into recovery and can't see any password prompt and the storage is still at 0mb. Help?
I had the problem.
I solved it by formating the data.
> fastboot format userdata
Do not forget to do a backup of your backup in your PC, then put it back and restore..!!
I have soft bricked my device, after reading your forums, I downloaded a stock ROM for my device... transferred it to my ext SD card but i couldnt find the RAR file in TWRP.(install) Even tried my luck with usb otg... i could see the rom (rar) file in file manager even copied it from ext SD to internal storage... i have double checked the location of the file... is on root it isny inside any folders. Pls help
Do what I said format the internal SD.
In your twrp format internal storage.
Then reboot and problem solved.

Hey guys, hope this is in the right forum..
I flashed CWM and installed CM 10.1.2 last night, and it seems to work great.
The problem I had though, was that the device reported that 6gb was already in use by the system. Going to settings/storage showed that only 5gb was available for free useage.
I installed the DiskUsage app, and it showed that ~6gb was in use by "System data".
After a little more digging around, I discovered that ALL of my old files were still stored in /data/media, including the CWM backup I made.
I did wipe data/ factory reset when I installed the ROM.
I already copied the CWM backup I made onto my PC, along with everything else I wanted to save, so is it safe to delete the stuff in /data/media? I do see that there is a /data/media/0 folder which seems to have the new stuff in it...
I have the same issue. I deleted the duplicated file under /data/media and keep the file under /data/media/0, the phone still working properly.
Hi folks, so yesterday I flashed this awesome rom beanstalk 4,3 but made the mistake of not backing up the data from the internal memory such as dcim folder and other folders I had in the root of the drive. Since I had done the same before when installing 4.2 I thought it wouldn't be a problem, lo and behold I cant find my folders anywhere anymore, but I know that my data is there because when I go to storage it shows that I have 2 gig free under my internal memory and there is no other data on the phone- pictures or otherwise to be found. I was able to recover most of my pictures and videos by using diskdigger (awesome app) under diskdigger my data is here /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/userdata showing the full 12 gigs of my device. Is there any way to mount this and then copy my data from there? I have tried finding my lost folders there by using root browser but there is nothing to be found, please help kind people of XDA. Thank you.
From your root browser try going to /storage/sdcard0/

under sdcard0 there is only the files and folders that beanstalk created, I was on dandroid 4.6 which is 4.1.2 I believe. Those folders and files that I had under that install are the ones missing and are nowhere to be found. The reason I suspect that they are there is because under storage there is only a small amount of data that the system actually created. I have attached a picture that will hopefully explain it better. My phone is a T999 by the way. Thank you for your help.
Update!!! I installed CWM recovery and when I select install zip/ choose zip from sdcard I can see that all my folders and hopefully files are there...any ideas on how to mount this on windows or even on android so I can copy it into the external sdcard. On the bottom it says /storage/sdcard1: Mounted....anyone? Please help. Thank you.
Solved CWM recovery did the trick in my attempt to back up the data through CWM it made a recovery zip instead under mnt/shell/emulated when I went to delete this zip I found all my folders and files. Before there was nothing in that folder I guess that CWM gave it rights to be read...go figure????

I'm completely desperate. Here's what happened the last two days:
Yesterday my Fairphone suddenly became very slowly and then wouldn't boot no more. Since then every time I try to start my phone, I get the message "process system doesn't react" or something like that. The only thing thats working is the recovery mode.
Today I wanted to make a complete backup so that I can make a hard reset afterwards. But then I had to realize, that the recovery mode isn't able (or I'm not able to see how) to make a backup on an external sd card but only on the internal storage (which is also called sd card which confused me about an hour).
The problem now is that I have a backup but I can't get it on my computer or on my external sd card and so it will be deleted too if I make a hard reset.
I searched the internet for hours and found out, that it is possible to somehow remote control the phone via adb. I read that the phone has to be in "usb debugging mode". I can just put my phone into adb sideload mode or however its called by choosing "update with adb" in the recovery menu.
Is this the reason why my "adb pull" command isn't working? It just says "error: closed". Or is it because I haven't wrote right the path of the backup file? (I used: /mnt/sdcard/userdata_20130801_134656.backup)
Please help me! I have tried so much already, my brain is sizzling:silly:
I'm working on a Mac and have installed sdk.

Just to close this topic and maybe help other people with the same issue:
I finally managed to pull the /data folder using adb. What I didn't know was that the backup file (and all pictures, videos, music and so on too) is stored on the internal sd card which isn't affected by the factory reset in the recovery menu. What I also found out was that the backup file (that I had created during the "bootloop" or whatever it was) was corrupted. So the backup logically broke my FP again after I restored from it.
So the solution, as mentioned above, was to pull the /data folder which contains all important user data such as wifi passwords, contacts, messages and so on

I have been running v6.22.605.4 and everything has been working well. Well, sorta. There was something eating up the storage space. To the point I only had 1GB of storage left and had no music, pictures, downloads, or anything personal on the SD. Yet it was shown as full and no file manager could show me what was taking up space. I figured some app had gone off the reservation and since it had been a while since my last reset, a refresh would be good to do anyway. I backed everything up and used TWRP to do a factory reset. That's when the trouble began.
Once I was booted back into the system and accounts were all set up I noticed my files and folders were nowhere to be found. I used ES and the HTC file manager and both show used space on the SD partition but there were no files or folders visible. Odd. So I went back into TWRP and used the file explorer there. Lo and behold, everything was still there in the sdcard folder. Files, folders, everything. Weird. So I thought I would start over from a clean device. I wiped the cache, dalvik, and data partitions, including the SD. After that was complete and verified I pushed over the 6.22.605.6 ROM, did a firmware upgrade, and flashed the ROM. Completely started over, good to go.
Well, not quite. The problem is still there. TWRP shows the usual folders on the SD that must have been created when the ROM first set up. "Pictures", "Music", etc. But when booted into the system, nothing. Oh, and now I have the apps System UI, Package Access Manager, and a host of others crashing upon startup. I tried downgrading and flashing 6.22.605.4 like I had before and still have the same issues with storage and app crashes. Which leads me to believe there is something derped in the underlying system but I can't figure out what it is.
Any help I can get is greatly appreciated!

Copy everything off while in twrp. Format SD (internal). Copy back files. Continue on.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it didn't work. I did a total format and it didn't seem to help. I was able to get it back by using a RUU and then adding TWRP back in. Just finished about an hour ago and everything seems to be coming back as expected.
