[Q] how to pull backup data with adb - Fairphone

hey guys
I'm completely desperate. Here's what happened the last two days:
Yesterday my Fairphone suddenly became very slowly and then wouldn't boot no more. Since then every time I try to start my phone, I get the message "process system doesn't react" or something like that. The only thing thats working is the recovery mode.
Today I wanted to make a complete backup so that I can make a hard reset afterwards. But then I had to realize, that the recovery mode isn't able (or I'm not able to see how) to make a backup on an external sd card but only on the internal storage (which is also called sd card which confused me about an hour).
The problem now is that I have a backup but I can't get it on my computer or on my external sd card and so it will be deleted too if I make a hard reset.
I searched the internet for hours and found out, that it is possible to somehow remote control the phone via adb. I read that the phone has to be in "usb debugging mode". I can just put my phone into adb sideload mode or however its called by choosing "update with adb" in the recovery menu.
Is this the reason why my "adb pull" command isn't working? It just says "error: closed". Or is it because I haven't wrote right the path of the backup file? (I used: /mnt/sdcard/userdata_20130801_134656.backup)
Please help me! I have tried so much already, my brain is sizzling:silly:
I'm working on a Mac and have installed sdk.
Thanks in advance!!!

EDIT:
Just to close this topic and maybe help other people with the same issue:
I finally managed to pull the /data folder using adb. What I didn't know was that the backup file (and all pictures, videos, music and so on too) is stored on the internal sd card which isn't affected by the factory reset in the recovery menu. What I also found out was that the backup file (that I had created during the "bootloop" or whatever it was) was corrupted. So the backup logically broke my FP again after I restored from it.
So the solution, as mentioned above, was to pull the /data folder which contains all important user data such as wifi passwords, contacts, messages and so on
I hope it helps
peace

NAND Restore Error!!!

So i tried to update my PRI but it didnt work... and in the process all my data was deleted. But i had made a nand backup so i thought i was fine. the only problem is now i get an error when i restore saying i should type in nandroid-mobile.sh in adb. i do not know how to use adb too well so can someone explain how i can get my nand backup back, because i didnt backup with my backup pro and even if i did some of my dta wouldnt be restored correctly, so please someone help me figure how to restore my nand???
Charge your battery.
Your battery is too low. Once the charge is greater than 30% it will work again.
EDIT: Just saw that someone beat me to the answer. That's what I get for getting distracted

Have you changed out your SD card or renamed your backups?
My answer from another thread. Sorry, not allowed to post links yet.
It took me days and days researching this...lol. I found three possible issues...the first, and most common, is renaming your backups. Apparently that screws it all up, so don't rename them. Second, your battery is too low...it has to be at least 40%. I never renamed and I was fully charged - but still got the error, and when I tried to restore via adb I got an sd card error. In MY case, I had gotten a new 16gb sdcard and it wasn't formatted or partitioned properly...I had to copy everything off if it onto a folder on my PC, format it (FAT32) via PC, put it back into the Evo, reboot into Amon Ra recovery via Rom Manager, select "partition sd card" - let that work- then select SD:ext2 to ext3...wait till that was done, reboot. Then I mounted as disk drive to the PC, copied everything back to the sd card, and viola...it finally worked. I don't know why it did it, I had 2 of the exact sd cards...brand, class, etc. Hopefully that works for you!
You CAN rename your backups. You CAN'T use spaces when u rename your backup. Boot your phone and go to you nandroid folder and if u used spaces, replace them with underscores. I learned the hard way. Good thing is, its an easy fix if it is the cause of your error.

[Q] help recovering with TWRP after failed ROM flash

I've found myself stuck trying to flash a ROM. I'm a newbie, this was my first attempt at something like this, I though I read enough about the process but I guess I screwed up something. I will try to be to the point.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T i747
Rooted phone with Casual, installed ROM Toolbox and purchased the pro upgrade.
installed TWRP 2.5 and made a nandroid backup, the only place this backup existed was in internal storage.
used ROM toolbox to backup user apps and user data
selected cyanogenmod 10.1 RC5 from within ROM Toolbox and there was a requester for gapps and a checked the box for that also. When the DL was complete I installed the ROM queue with those two items and I checked the boxes Wipe Data & Cache and Wipe dalvic-cache.
Phone went to recovery mode (i guess) and appeared to clear the memory and load the new rom, the phone rebooted and I got the cyanogenmod boot screen but then it went to a requester saying:
Unfortunately , the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped.
When you hit ok you get:
Unfortunately, setup wizard has stopped.
this requester never goes away, just keeps popping up when you hit ok.
So I removed the battery and booted the phone in recovery mode and try to restore but the restore nandroid file in not shown. If I hit the center button in the restore window it says "updating partition details" but never returns.
Whenever you power it up normally now you end up in this gapps loop.
My searching suggested I may have tried to install the wrong version of google apps somehow. What are my options for trying to recover from this? Does my backup still exist somewhere?
If process.gapps is your only warning you can try to reflash the gapps zip from here. http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip If this does not fix your problem, you will have to head deeper into the rabbit hold
You can look for your back with a file explorer. Should be in sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/******** (random number). If you dont see them here, check your ext-sd in the same location. If you don't see them, they are gone. Do a Nandroid backup now just to be sure you have one. You should chose to back it up to external in TWRP. As for your FC problem, it would appear that you have not wiped fully. You will likely need to factory reset. the problem is this will remove everything. Titanium back up is a great product for situations like this. If you have used it, you can transfer your backup from the internal storage while connected to your pc. Also copy your DCIM folder as it will contain your photos. This is why you will need to do another Nandroid, because worst case scenario, you can just restore this one.
Thanks for the reply. I will try to reflash the gapps file from the external as soon I can download it, the site is having some trouble right now. I made another Nandroid of the phones current state and stored it to external. I did also have Titanium backup and had backups of the whole system with it. Unfortunately they are also only on the internal storage.
Re-installing the gapps zip file off the extSD from within TWRP did the trick. All the data and backups I created are also still there and are now backed up in several places.
Something that compounded the problem was the 64GB sd card I have for the phone. I was not able to mount it on either of my linux mint machines or an XP machine. Some oddness with the exFAT file system on it, I used a 4GB card I had laying around and it worked fine.
Thank you for the help, the phone is now running CM which is what I wanted and I learned a few things too.

I just bought a 64GB card as well. You may be having troubles mounting it due to a partition that comes factory in the SD. If this is the case, you can look at post #57 on the following page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915385&page=6
It helped me tremendously.

TWRP 3.1.0-0 adb backup "unable to mount storage"

With the new TWRP update, I was excited to finally be able to stream Nandroid backups straight to my desktop instead of putting them on my flash drive and moving them after. Unfortunately, this feature does not seem to be working properly.
These are my steps:
1) Flash TWRP 3.1.0-0
2) Boot to TWRP
3) Verify that ADB recognizes the device
4) Run "adb backup --twrp" from a command prompt
5) Choose my partitions from the TWRP prompt on the phone (system, data, boot)
TWRP shows the terminal for a second then closes out to the main screen. I am left with a 0kb backup.ab file in the directory I ran the command. I have tried changing which partitions to backup but always get the same error, even when selecting none.
My log output is:
Code:
Updating partition details...
...done
[COLOR="Red"]Unable to mount storage[/COLOR]
Anyone else running into this issue and/or have a fix? Any help is appreciated!
So I immediately found the solution. Turns out, the backup destination in TWRP must be set to internal storage, not OTG. The option to change backup destination is not there after running the "adb backup", so it must be set beforehand. Mine is defaulted to OTG as I find it easier to backup straight to my thumb drive and often do not have enough space to save the backup to phone itself (what I get for buying a 16gb version)
Hope my idiocy can be of help to someone else
Thanks.

Internal storage mounting problem

Hi all,
I have decided to perform whole "/data" backup of my rooted P8000 with TWRP recovery.
In order to save some space, I have deleted the "media" folder under "/data" from ADB, when phone was in recovery mode.
After finishing the backup, I have rebooted the phone.
Since then, I have no access to the internal storage.
I see, that phone has created the "media" folder during boot, but then, probably during mount phase, there
is some problem, and something goes wrong.
I can't get to "/storage/ emulated/" as I get an error.
If I go directly to "/data/media/" , I do have an access , but I can't get it to work as internal storage.
I already tried to play with permissions of "media" folder, but so far with no luck.
I am open to your suggestions and hope that someone will know to help me.
Thank you in advance!

content of data folder

Hi all,
I'm new here.
I have been asked to save the data of a GT-S5660 stuck in reboot loop here. There was no attempt to jailbrake the device.
As far as I know, the device is in it's original state.
I have recovered all the important data from the microSD card, being Images, Videos and Audio Records. The contacts had already been backed up by the owner.
My question is, if the internal "data" folder might contain any pictures or Videos or can I safely wipe and reset to factory settings?
There is no backup of the device itself, and since it is stuck in reboot loop I can not use the official software to backup.
I used adb shell to look into the internal memory and access to the data directory is denied.
I tried with "su" too but again, I get "permission denied".
I found an "Update.zip" here in the forum, which is for the GT-S5660 (that is the whole model name, no other letters after the "zero" ) and followed the instructions in that thread, but apart from applying the update without any error message, it did not give me root permissions.
Hence the question if there is anything worth saving in the "data" folder.
Thanks for any help

I tried to solve the boot loop with no success.
Has anyone an idea where to find the files to flash the device? I can't say I read all the threads about the GT-S5660 but the most, and all links to the ROM files are broken..
