Tempered glass touch sensitivity - the truth? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Accessories

Hi Guys,
Quick question. I realize I didn't go for an expensive tempered glass protector, however, looking for the most honest answer on losing any touch sensitivity with even the high end, tempered, curved tempered glass protectors... Do you lose sensitivity when you installed yours?
On flat screen phones in the past, I haven't had this issue, however with this phone, I notice a significant deal of touch sensitivity, especially when I'm trying to use it when it's laying flat on a table and I'm trying to swipe at it at am angle.
Looking for honest answers... No matter how expensive your protector yours was... Thank you!

Depends on how well the TGSP sits on the phone.
I haven't heard of any touch sensitivoty issues with full adhesive ones like the whitestone dome.
The ones with only adhesive on the borders, you might lose sensitivity if for example the glass in the middle lifts/not sitting flat or if the vendor used some crap material.
I have only had experience with the Olixar and some no name brand from the local shop, both side adhesive and both were fine on sensitivity

Tempered glass touch sensitivity
Probably, this might depend on the quality of tempered glass screen protector that you are using. Its installation also matters the most. See to it whether it has fit your phone perfectly or not.
So far I haven’t heard any such issues and I personally haven’t faced any such problems.

Try the TGSP from Otium on Amazon. It's cheap & pretty good. It's also case-friendly.

I just bought a Luvvit screen protector for my s9+ and immediately notice the same thing. I have to press really hard on the screen when typing now. I'm going to give it the night to see if it adheres any better. Otherwise, its coming off.

Got it, thanks for reporting your experience bud.

Guys,
This is the best solution I have found (for the price), a full screen adhesive TGSP for £9.00.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Samsung-...341497?hash=item2f0d1b14b9:g:CFIAAOSw3WxaRXwn
No loss in sensitivity no dot matrix on screen, and is case friendly too. Although this technically is for the S* with their identical screen dimensions, this should work on the S9 too.
And no, its not like the other cheap TGSP on the market as this one sticks entirely to the glass with no gaps.
Give it a try.

Is it really adhesive across the *whole* screen? It's an amazing price. Is it real glass or some sort OF Tough plastic? Can you scratch it with something sharp, like a knife? Do you have a manufacturer website URL?

Yes it really is full screen adhesive, and yes it really is glass.........but.......it is some sort of glass/plastic composite, which has the hardness of tempered glass (so no, you can't scratch it), but a little elasticity and flex like plastic, which is actually needed to fit the protector to the phone. I know its definitely glass, as this is my second one, and when removing the first one (phone fell out of my pocket whilst cycling and TGSP shattered on one edge) the whole thing shattered like TGSP are supposed to. Will post some pictures later today when I get the chance, but after almost a year of trying different varieties, TGSP with glue around edges, TPU ones, PET ones etc, I have to say that for the money this is the best solution I've found. The only one I can imagine that is better than this would be the whitestone one, however, this is easier to install, and a fraction of the price too!

Zagg HTC One High Def Screen Protector - Amazon
I think Zagg makes the best screen protectors, I have used them on both the HTC Droid Incredible and the HTC One. The Zagg screen protectors are not the cheapest option for screen protectors especially if you go for the ultra clear model but I think the cost is worth it, especially since zagg offers warranty replacements, you only pay for shipping. With the warranty replacements, registering your product on the Zagg website is quick and easy, there are no serial numbers you need to have or anything, you only need to tell them what device you got it for and which model screen protector you got.
Another benefit of the zagg shields is the lifetime of the screen protector, in my experience the screen protectors lasted almost 2 years for my Droid Incredible before I replaced it, the screen protector started to come off around the edges of my phone. While the screen protectors do age, I would much prefer the aged screen protector opposed to any damage to my screen. In my entire life of my Droid Incredible, bought in April 2010 and still used as an e-reader by my girlfriend today, there is not one scratch on the screen thanks to the Zagg shield.
While I have not personally tried the Verizon 3 pack of screen protectors, I have had friends use them and they were disappointed with the quality of them, the biggest issue was having the screen protector stay on.
Zagg screen protectors have done such a great job in my opinion I have not wanted or even thought of trying another brand.
As for tips to putting the Zagg brand on, make sure you wash your hands before you do anything, clean the screen so their is no oil, fingerprints, dust or anything else on the phone, make sure the spray gets on both the screen protector and the screen but do not soak either, just enough spray to cover the phone and protector. I found it best when applying the screen protector to start at the top of the screen in one of the corners and work your way to the opposite top corner then work your way down, make sure to use the applying tool they put in the packaging, be sure to use a good amount of force when use the tool but be careful not to apply too much pressure and crack the screen.
If you do not want to try putting the screen protector on yourself, you can go to the Cell Phone employees at Best Buy and have them put the screen protector on. You do not need to purchase the protector from Best Buy, but they charge you a fee to do it. The major benefit of this is that if they screw up and ruin your protector they will replace it.
I tried the Verizon 3-pack when initially purchasing the one. While they are decent, I knew I wanted something a little more rugged.
I did some research and ended up settling on the Mime USA Feather lite tempered glass screen protector. It's super thin and flexes nicely when unboxed, so it's highly unlikely to actually shatter like other tempered glass protectors. It's extremely scratch resistent. I tested car keys, nails, and knives on the screen protector after applying it to the phone and absolutely no marks showed up. It fits perfectly to the parameters of the screen and is hardly noticable after application. I would highly recommend this product. I ordered it from the Mime USA website for about $28, they even threw in a code for free shipping!

I usually don't use screen protectors and whenever I put on a case, I take it off an hour later. I've had the phone for like 9 months now and the screen is fine. There are tiny little scratches but you can't notice them unless you try really hard to, they don't affect the clarity of the screen in any way. I just don't like using screen protectors because they attract finger prints and smudges so easily even when I try a more expensinve screen protector. Honestly the screen will be fine for a long time. Yes there will be extremely tiny scratches but you won't care because they're almost non-existant. But one thing to keep in mind though, is that sand is crazy harsh on the screens, so I'm extra careful when I go to the beach with my phone. That's when I suggest putting on a case and a screen protector. Because even if a tiny bit of sand getes in your pocket, it might cause a little damage. Right now my phone is brand new since I got it replaced because of a camera issue, and I just can't get myself to stick with putting on a case or screen protector, I had a screen protector on it but I took it off 2 weeks later because I miss the naked screen.

Reviews go with what you said. I think when I buy my next screen protector when my zagg wears down, I'm going to try one of these.
i'm using an invisible shield screen protector. Went on pretty easy, there were no bubbles, and it's pretty thick. I've only had it on for a week, so I can't say much about durability, but it's pretty good as far as a screen protector goes. I'm still very partial to those matte finish screen protectors, so i'll probably be picking up one of those in the future.

Got a MIME Feather myself about a month ago or so now, and I must say that it's the best choice I've ever made as far as screen protection. I'd had a Spigen and some other tempered glass brand, but they were both just too thick and noticeable on the screen. The Feather is perfect because it's hard to even tell it's on there, plus it has the Oleophobic coating to prevent smudges and fingerprints. Seriously, don't even waste your money on another screen protector. You can't beat the MIME Feather.

+1 what he said, minus the experience with Spigen. The MIME Feather is the first glass screen protector I've tried, and I don't think I'll ever use anything else. It's superb and well worth the premium price. With that on the screen and a Ballistic Shell Gel case on the rest of the phone, I don't worry about it too much.
I got a EBay $6.99, Chinese made, 0.4mm thick tempered glass screen protector a few weeks ago.
Went on really well, no bubbles and sticking down along all edges and corners. Has the beveled edges on the glass so no sharp edges.
Far better than ANY plastic one i have used on any phone. Touchscreen works well with it on.
Actually hard to notice now its on unless you run your finger from the speaker onto the screen , so the REALLY thin ones must be pretty close to invisible.
I polish up the screen every 2-3 days. Does get prints on it, so maybe the expensive ones have a better oleophobic coating??
For the price, most excellent.

so it's basically putting another layer of glass on top of your screen? Like putting a slide cover on a microscope slide? I wonder if that'll make screen touching a little imprecise (or any more than having a screen protector.

Its definitely putting another layer of glass on the screen. You have to be careful and get it in the right position 1st time as they dont move around once stuck down. Removing them without breaking is, i suspect, very difficult. The "tape hinge" method of application works pretty well.
I have found the touch sensitivity on mine to be great. Certainly there is no difference to the "usability" of the phone, and the smoothness an feel is as good as the original screen.
I did read one review where the buttons on screen wouldn't work with a glass screen protector, but that has certainly NOT been my experience. From what i have read the thickness of these has come down from around 0.6mm in early incarnations to something like 0.15mm and being flexible in some brands.
I got a 0.4mm one. No scratches as yet. Its supposed to be very hard (9H??). I had no issues with fitting my case on after installing the screen protector.. Its a cheap silicone and hardback model that provides good corner protection. Hopefully the screen protector will help if it falls on its face sometime.
What about Just Like Glass?
Has anyone tried it?

Just bought my first one a month ago (MIME Ghost), best screen protector I have ever used. It's definitely scratch resistant and feels like the original screen. Not sure how it will hold up to drops, but that's not something I am willing to test.
Had a friend buy some Write Guard screen protectors for his HTC One. I installed one on his HTC One. Screen protector was all ready getting all kinds of scratches in it. No Bueno.
I used the XtremeGuard screen protector for a very long time on my HTC One, but recently I decided I wanted a matte finish screen protector, so I switched to Tech Armor Anti-Glare. Feels much nicer to me and gets a lot less fingerprints and smudges.
I was using the protector that came with the UG case. After reading this thread, I picked up a MIME. Very impressed. It goes on dry, was easy to remove and reposition and left absolutly no bubles (these drive me CRAZY). It has somewhat finger print resistant and I did not heave to deal with wetting the protector, then waiting 24 hours to see if all the bubles went away. Best screen protector I have purchased and believe me, I have tried at least 20 different types over the years.
I have had no issues with the touch sensitivity. You can't even notice it's on unless you look really closely at the top edge.
Using the screen protector that came with my otterbox comuter and it is quite terrible.
The screen protector has been on since April and it is already deteriorating. The spots where I'd swype, type show heavy signs of use. With a faint finger swipe over the screen you can actually feel the difference.
Other than that, the actual performance isn't the worst. Glare and all in the sun is bad, indoors though I don't have any issues.
Will look into MIME.
Cheers,

[Q] Moto X Screen Protectors ?

Hello Folks,
I know there are loads of screen protector threads out there but none of them are recent for the MotoX.
I have had an XtremeGuard Protector on my X for a few months, but the gummyness, orange peel and lack of screen sensitivity is killing me.
What are some good current options that are $15 or under ?
Thanks,
Pete
I'm currently using the SUPCASE Screen protector that came with my case: has everything I need to get it on once and only once(even comes with a lint remover film). Looks and feel great. I don't know what you mean by 'gummyness though, the only screen protector I would describe that has a gummy-like feel(especially when I pinch with my fingernail is the Skinomi brands.

I bought a couple of the Mimeusa.com glass screen protectors, one for my wife and another for myself. Installed mine first, its a little different installing such a stiff protector, luckily i was able to lift it back up easily a couple times to adjust the positioning.
The wifes I installed a couple hours after, and it felt like it gave me more problems. didn't want to get positioned right, but eventually I got it lined up well.
The next day it fell off in her car while she was driving and got covered in dirt and dust on the adhesive side.
Mine is still on, after 2 weeks of use;
The texture is awesome! i hate most screen protectors, but this is glass and feels so good to the touch. you hardly notice its there.
It hasn't taken and scratches, and it does feel like fingerprints are less noticeable than on the bare screen.
I don't have a case of my X yet, ordered a bumper from amazon, but its not here yet.
I feel that the protector gathers small fibers easily at the edge. there are a couple of very small fibers that have worked there way just under the edge of the glass. They are hardly noticeable, especially when the screen is on.
I have not seen any new accumulation since the first few days, so maybe its more prone to catching the fibers in the hours / day after installation. I would advise avoiding pockets for 24 hours after installing this product if you can.
I will probably use this screen protector until it chips/breaks/gets too scratched up, and then go naked screen for the rest of the phones life.
If you are intending to spend $15 for a screen protector, might as well get a tempered glass one. I'm using this one: http://www.amazon.com/i-Blason-Motorola-Ultra-Thin-Tempered-Protector/dp/B00E0CUP18/
If you installed it correctly the first time, it should stay stuck and without any bubbles.

I would just like to throw out my support for Liquid Armor. I use it on all of my touchscreen devices, and have never had a scratch on a screen since, and it feels just like glass, without anything on it. The best part is that the one bottle can be used for several screens. Though if you don't use it in a couple months, the stuff will harden in the nozzle of the bottle, making it more difficult to use.
Edit: figured Id throw in a link. http://www.amazon.com/Dynaflo-LIQUID-ARMOR-Universal-Microfiber-DYN-LA100SP/dp/B007EZ3EM0

Disclaimer: I posted this in a couple other threads, but I wanted to try and post it where I know we've been discussing tempered glass screen protectors.
Here's some pictures of the redesigned i-Blason protector. As you can see, there is now a cutout for the proximity sensor. The corners also fit the Moto X perfectly (their old design fit perfectly too). Very happy I finally have a protector that FITS and where the proximity sensor won't be blocked! I liked the i-Blason until I had started having proximity sensor issues because I had dropped it several times, and it never once cracked, unlike the MIME, which cracked the very first time I dropped it.

i have tempered glass on my moto X ( mimeusa.com/product/moto-x-ghost-glass-screen-protector/ ) since january.
it was very easy to install and the feel is wonderful. my only complaint is that when you drop your phone, it can crack. better a crack on the protector than a scratch on the device, right? my phone has been pretty suicidal lately, what w/ jumping off tables, so it has accumulated many cracks on the protector. i am replacing it (with same ghost glass) and also buying a bumper case ... that may make a difference in the life span of the protector.
this is my first glass protector and yes i like it. on previous devices i used zagg screen protectors and was VERY HAPPY with them, but when i ordered their protector for the moto X, i found that they must have screwed up on the device specs, as the film didn't even cover the entire viewing screen. UNACCEPTABLE! i will not go back to their products.
I had the MIMEUSA and was very happy with the feel of the MIMEUSA, but it didn't fit properly. The corners were too squared and extended over the screen. The edges were also suppose to be beveled to prevent chipping but mine seemed like they were beveled out, leaving a lip on the glass. This all led to the edges chipping and eventually a larger break.
I ordered the i-Blason to try it and am very happy. The fit is perfect, its quite a bit thinner than the MIMEUSA, and it feels just as slick and smooth as the MIMEUSA and the glass screen. I would recommend the i-Blason over the MIMEUSA. And the i-Blason is only $17 on Amazon making it about the same price as the high quality plastic protectors.

Screen Protectors Hunt Again

Hi guys so the screen protector hunt starts again ive been looking on amazon uk and some of them seem to be a full adhesive fit does anyone know if the xz2 has flat glass near the main display or is it 2.5D like most models
hear is one ive been looking at https://www.amazon.co.uk/Protector-...6&sr=8-7&keywords=xperia+xz2+screen+protector
On the same hunt, the glass is definitely 2.5D. I wouldn't expect any full adhesive glass protectors to work without massive halo's.

Edit: finally today it's arrived brotect airglass, first time i've buyed and it's arrived a back screen protector for s9+ in xz2 package (???), contact the support and they send me a new for free and it's arrived today...no halo, great brightness and very good oleophobic treatment
i think they all seems to be lying on us... they advertise it as a 3D or full cover edge to edge but when you get your hands on it you realize it only protects the LCD, like flat protector...
well, i like this by IMAK... it's a 3D and full edge to edge film rather than tempered glass... what i don't like about it is not glossy, but rather anti-glare which i hate.
check the link below if anyone is interested in buying it
https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Sony-X...var=552691546263&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649
I bought this one, fits edge to edge very well.

It prevents glass breaking by 30%.
Or was it 70%?
But it definitely strengths the glass structure.

I prefer a thick glass screen protector.
It will easily avoid bubbles and is way stronger.

What screen protector doesn't suck?

These new tempered glass protectors with the black surround adhesive are terrible. Poor touch sensitivity and a weird hollow feel/sound because they don't actually sit flat on the screen. Are there any non-adhesive tempered glass protectors that are worth looking into? Amazon reviews are spotty. for every brand and every type of protector for the G8.

Tried that and it still doesn't feel right.
I'm thinking of trying a film protector like Ringke. I've also got all these on the way:

Tried this 32nd Extra Armoured Tempered Glass Screen Protector which is equivalent to the GPEL and seems to be alright but the adhesive isn't great I managed to move the screen protector out of position by a little force. Probably may to consider ones with full adhesive...

Used these on my wifes pixel 2 and they are great. You get a free one if it breaks.
My new g8 has one. it comes with a jig to be sure it lines up perfect. curves on the edges and extremely good fit. No issue with the case.

Gonna try after I run through my 2 gpels lol just put one on should be good unless I drop it awkwardly then it's on to the 2nd one
Using the LK film protector I linked earlier. Goes on like the ringke film, using multiple steps and doing 1/2 at a time. Feel is good. A little stickier than a tempered glass protector, but it's solid on the screen. No air gap. I think it might be interfering with the crystal sound display a bit. Volume seems a little lower now.

I have several of the Ringke stocked up, they have a great installation process. I personally enjoy the film (dry application) protectors more than glass as they have a much slimmer profile. The downside is that they offer little impact protection and can be imprinted, but they're cheap enough that I just keep a few around and change them as needed.
This was the only full-adhesive glass protector I could find. DON'T buy it! I left pics in my Amazon review showing why: Our screen glass curves before the pixels end. The only way to have a flat piece of glass stick to the whole screen is to cut it smaller than the visible screen edges. This one hangs off the sides by 3mm, rendering the edges useless.
[2 Pack] LG G8 ThinQ Screen... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NZZ6YGY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I've just ordered the only one I could find that claims to be smaller than the screen area, but the description still makes it a bit tough to know what to expect.
https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Protector-Coverage-Tempered-Adhesive/dp/B07QJ41M2H
Update: DON'T BUY THESE. This one is even worse, as it's way too tall. Again, the scroll bars don't work because you can't touch them. Total trash.
Unfortunately, unless they make one with genuinely curved glass that follows the screen, there won't be a useful full-adhesive protector for our phone. It looks like every glass protector is flat. They advertise rounded edges, but are still flat glass. If you don't believe me, please look at the pictures I've left in the Amazon reviews. These should never have been made.
Tempered glass is used to protect the screen from scratches and also Protect direct damage of the screen. any branded Tempered Glass is famous with their Hard surface and smooth working. I always prefer Casper Tempered Glass and Whitestone dome Glass.
Add this one to the list of screen protectors that don't work. It won't lay flat on the sides. Long air gaps up/down both sides.
Here's the item description on Amazon. I can't post links yet.

Full Body Skin
You may want to think about giving the Skinomi Full Body Skin a try. I wouldn't say that it feels as smooth as a glass protector, but it does wonders at protecting the back of the phone. It also keeps it from slipping off of surfaces and easier to hold! Very nice for those times when you don't want to wear a case. The back protector doesn't interfere with any cases, and the front protector covers the entire screen of the device. Skinomi's warranty is pretty legit too.
I've used it on my Nexus 4, v30 and now the G8.
I'm using an AILUN screen protector with a SPIGEN TOUGH ARMOUR case and they fit and work perfectly together. Got them both off EBay.
I was wondering if screen protectors might dull the sound, since the screen itself is a speaker.
I just placed the wet install IQ Shield on my new G8. I haven't even turned it on yet as I'm in a contract on a stupid Note 9,but I like them on my last 4 devices.

Question Just installed a glass screen protector and FPR won't recognize

I did the steps people have said to do like increase touch sensitivity and re add all the fingers I would use but it still won't work. I don't know who made this protector since I got it off a marketplace site and when I met with the person all he gave me was the screen protector. It was only $5 i got it for so no big deal if it's ****.
Other than that it feels good and everything else works fine.
There are some other threads on here about glass screen protectors. The majority don't work with FP, but there are some that do. Check those threads for info.
In general you need to go for the UV glued type..... All the ones with just glue on the edges will leave an air gap between screen and glass, this heavily impedes with FP functionality.....
Is the brand on Google's approved list?

The air gap has nothing to do with it, the Pixel 6 with its perfectly flat screen has the same problems, my wifes Spigen one has rendered her FPS useless.

Thanks, maybe the cause is not as simple as I assumed... Still my experience remains over many phones: the edges-only glued glass protectors just don't work (for me )

I'm not disputing that, i was just clarifying the Pixel 6 suffers the same problem even with a flat screen.
Never had a problem with a 1+ phone using a glass protector over the FPS even with the cheapest crap i could find so as far as i am concerned all the reasons Google are coming out with are absolute cobblers.
So should I just take this thing off or wait for a software update from Google?
I for myself have installed a TPU screen protector presently, awaiting delivery of a UV glass protector as I like those more
I'd hope Google improves the behaviour of the FPS, in how far however I don't know.....
I am currently using the below TPU screen protector and could not be happier with it. My fingerprint scanner works nearly every single time and I have not had an issue. Once the screen protector has been properly applied (I admit, I screwed it up the first time) I cannot even tell that it is on my screen visibly or by touch.
Having said that, I am a little concerned that a TPU screen protector is not as good in general as a glass one. I have not had an issue yet, but I also have not had an accidental drop or anything.
I will also say that I have registered each of my thumbs twice. I will get an occasional "longer" read, and by longer, maybe a half a second longer. However, I have noticed that when that happens, my thumb is slightly out of the read circle. When my thumb is dead center, it reads it every time really quickly.
I am not all that excited about a UV glass protector as I have read horror stories of discoloration and some users not being able to get them off.
Supposedly Google has released their approved screen protectors list. I am not about to spend 50 bucks on a Zagg. The one for Panzer was more reasonable, but it disappeared off their website. The Otterbox is another TPU and I like the one I have:
Amazon.com
I might just take this off and use nothing. I didn't use a protector for my s7 edge or s10+ and didn't get a single scratch. I only got it because I wanted to preserve the oilyaphobic coating. This thing only cost me $5 in the end
Did peeps make sure to use the increased screen sensitivity setting for use with screen protectors?

yes, it makes zero difference.
Typically with curved screens, you need a full-screen adhesive in order for the FPR to work after installation. Either that, or one with edge adhesive with an area over the reader that also sticks to the screen, but I personally think those are kinda ugly. For the regular P6, my girlfriend ordered a brand called "TOCOL" for a glass protector, which is working great all around.
If/when Whitestone Dome releases one for the P6P, that will be the only really good option. It's either that, or buy an edge adhesive style one, buy LOCA glue and a UV lamp, and DYI it. Only way you're going to have glass and a working FPR.
I'm using a TPU protector and a case. TPU has come a long way tbh, the dry install ones I got feel like a naked screen and give me some piece of mind in regard to small scratches. The case does the rest as far as drop protection. Victus Glass is pretty good for shatter resistance generally, but crap for scratches.
OP, I would remove that one if you want to use the Fingerprint Reader. There isn't a software update that's going to solve that problem unfortunately. I'd just use a decent TPU for now and if you really want glass after you try it still pray for Whitestone Dome. There's another thread on here dedicated to working protectors, I'd check that out and pick one.

If you prefer the 9H glass protectors, you'll have to find a glass protector that is "Google certified" to work with fingerprint reader.
These are glued to the screen to make 100% positive contact with the glass protector.
I'm guessing you have a 9H glass protector like mine that has a very small air gap between the screen and the protector. Even with the enhanced fingerprint reader setting, my fingerprint reader doesn't pick up anything.
The TPU flexible protectors supposedly work well, but I like the 9H glass protectors.
The Google Certified 9H glass protectors that I've found are between $15 - $39 per protector, and many of them are "out of stock" at the moment.

Yeah it's only the Pro model that has curved screens and requires UV glue protectors, which there is currently none available until Whitestone Dome releases.
