I apoogize if I asking this in the wrong thread, however I do really need help with my device, I have a Htc 10 S-off with locked bootloader, I already installed twrp, however for some reason every time that I install a custom rom, lets say for example Viper or leedroid, the device gets stuck in bootloop, and I dont really undestand why, everyhting always go well, however the device for some reason its incapable of booting with a custom rom.
Please someone help me :crying::crying:
(Sorry for my bad english)
Did you do full wipe on install? Also it takes Really long time to boot first time on fresh install.
Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
if you have a backup I suggest using that. if not, then youll have to unlock your boot loader and try re-installing rom, fresh wipe, make sure your also installing the latest stable version and that your model is compatible I'm currently running purefusion OS and I prefer that over stock anyday, easy updates, and bugs are mostly smoothed out now
Thank you so much for answe me, and yes I did full wipe and waited for around 20-25 minutes however for some reason it doesn't boot, and no the phone it's not bricked I flashed the ruu trough the download mode so I have the stock room again, my problem is with the custom roms, for some reason they just don't work with my device

It must be a bad download or something you are doing wrong. Try redownloading ROM and check the md5.
Thank you for answering me, I will try to download the roms again, however I tried different roms and none of them worked, may I ask if anyone knows another reason for this to happen? I will like to try all my options, again thank so much everyone for helping me with my problem and sorry for my bad English.
I just realized something, its not the roms its the twrp that says finished, however actually it hasnt done anything, I tried to flash magisk, super su, and even try to update twrp, and every time says : "finished succesfully" but in reality it didnt flash anything, twrp doesnt work propely with my device is broken, I tried different versions (flashed trough download mode with adb fastboot) and all of them arent working properly with my device, please help me how can I fix this?

I tried with all of them, the unofficial, de latest official twrp and with an older official version (all flashed trough the download mode with adb fastboot) , none of them worked, the worse part is that every time that I flash something trough the recovery it's says that it was successful but unfortunately for me it's a lie, it doesn't do anything xD, I don't even know what to think anymore (lol) this is the first device that does this to me :crying:

I could be wrong but maybe its because its a verizon phone. Im pretty sure theres another forum for verizon. But then again i think people on verizon have used leedroid ROM and in his OP it says its supported. Have you tryed his ROM? Do you get to aroma installer? Make sure your using the latest TWRP and your firmware is up to date aswell. Thats all the help i can give you sorry. Hopefully you can get it sorted.

By any chance did you make sure that TWRP has permission to write to system!? Please excuse me if this has been asked and answered already, but I didn't see such kind of question on a quick glance.

No worries, thank you for trying to help me, about you question, you mean what twrp ask every time you go to recovery? Because I always swipe "to allow modifications" if its that then yes twrp does have permission to write the system.
I believe the encryption is causing bootloop. Try formatting data in TWRP to wipe encryption then install the rom. You will know you are in the right place if you have to type "yes" to proceed.

I soft bricked my M8 and wiped the phone with twrp then tried to sideload the GPE rom I was using again and it wouldn't work. In fact I can't flash any rom that isn't cyanogen mod nightly for the m8... Also my bootloader changed from the white screen with the droid bots on a skateboard to a black screen with a single droid on it. Any idea why I can't flash anything besides cyanogen?

Did you try pushing the rom instead of sideloading it? Apparently sideloading in TWRP doesn't work, or doesn't work like it should
Try pushing it to the correct path and flash again.

Yeah, once I got the phone fixed I tried to load it normally. However it still didn't work. I tried other recoveries like Philz Touch too. Unfortunately firewater doesn't work for me.

Try flashing the boot.img file that comes with the ROM first, then re-flash the ROM of your choice.
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Go back into recovery of choice, wipe cache, dalvik-cache etc Then go to installed zip and select the ROM of your choice and flash the ROM.
Firewater won't work anymore for "later released" models that gets shipped with latest firmware. HTC patched it, you "MIGHT" be lucky if you still have an older device.
The developers of Firewater did however create another method to S-OFF the device. [Android][HTC S-OFF] SunShine for modern HTC devices
Sunshine is $25 but it works. It first checks your phone for compatibility before you pay for anything. That way if your device "isn't" compatible then it won't make you pay $25 for something that "won't" work.
Something to look into if you have $25 to spare :good:

I'd still give the format option a try, I wasn't able to flash any roms except for the CM nightly as well, then I made it worse by trying to wipe the internal data which led to not being able to mount the internal partition, and couldn't even get into the bootloader until my phone battery died. I remember reading that the format would allow me to mount the internal storage. You may be able to fix the issues with a format and then try flashing a rom.
Did you try converting your phone over to GPE? That's what it sounds like you tried to do. If so then that is why nothing is working because the partitions are layed out differently from a stock sense M8. You need to wipe everything and run whatever RUU is available for your device and pray to god it works because you are s-on... You seriously should have been s-off before doing all of this. Being s-on is really going to complicate things for you bro... That's also probably why you can't fastboot the kernel. Find a RUU for your phone and run it. Post back here if you get any "main version" errors cuz then some tricks will need to be done.. Feel free to PM me, maybe I can assist directly getting you back up and running...

Great news, your suggestion worked! I'm able to flash the sinless GPE 4.4.4 rom! No more nightly's for this guy.:good:
I was wondering if anyone could help me.
First i rooted my phone, then S-off'd with sunshine.
then i tried to update my firmware from 1.32.xx.xx to 1.40.401.8 so i could install ViperONE rom
First, i flashed a no-wipe zip 1.40.401.8 and it worked but after rebooting the phone, it would restart on each screen-off.
so i figured that there was something wrong with the versions and did a full wipe install.
now i can't install any zip. It hangs at the part where it starts the install and freezes, then goes into a boot loop.
I cant see any file system at all.
I've tried putting ADB sideload mode in, but it doesn't recognize it
Please, does anyone know what i should do?

The problem with Viper makes it sound like you installed the 1.40 base rom on the 1.32 firmware, so are you sure the 1.40 firmware flashed? You can check this in download mode.
So Aroma is crashing during install? Are you able to save the installation log? Which version of TWRP are you using?
I hope that 1.40 installed... it says so in download mode.
im using TWRP 2.8.6.4
the reason i decided to start over with a full-wipe zip is because of the problem with the constant rebooting.
should i try to do a RUU like shown here?

TWRP 2.8.6.4 is a beta version. You should use the official version 2.8.6.1 (here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3066720)
what ROM(s) are you trying to install? And what errors are you getting in Aroma installer? If download mode says 1.40, then that's probably accurate.
i've tried ViperROM and android revolution.
Neither work. Both crash as soon as it gets started after configuration... I don't see any "error codes" or anything, just reboots and starts a boot loop.
i can try again with 2.8.4.1. but at this point, i just want to have my phone working again.

So...you begin the ROM install in TWRP, the Aroma installer starts, you go through your options, press install, and what? Do you see wiping data? system? Does it show progress percentage? Or right after you press install in aroma, aroma FCs, and the phone reboots?
essentiallly yes.
In aroma, i go thru the options about installing the ROM.
then it asks if i want to wipe before install, then install starts.
in Android Revolution, it gets to 30% right away, then crashes.
in ViperONE it gets to 1%, hangs, then crashes.
i'm sorry i dont have a log to show.

Who is your carrier? If there's an RUU for your specific carrier, you could try running it. You know it will wipe your SD card, though, right?
I ended up installing the RUU from the link I posted. It worked like a charm.
"You are aware it will wipe your SD"
DUDE! I literally had a blank phone. It showed 32gb free space. There was NOTHING on it.
The RUU worked though.
I kinda want to try again, because I have no idea what went wrong or why... At least I know how to fix it now.
Thanks for the help.

for flashing the no-wipe I had no problems but I did go into the 3 android-info.txt files and change the cid and mid to match my device. also had to flash it twice as the first flash always fails. Recently I learned about changing the cid to supercid and I think that solves having to go into the files. If your phone is still not working you can always go to the link below and download the RUU for your device and then run the .exe file from your pc and return to stock (I'd look for the specific instructions for that because I did leave some steps out).
EDIT--just looked at full wipe file and it's not an RUU must have been another thread I was thinking of.

Yeah, well now that you know the RUU works to restore I think you'd be safe to try again.
Just install the latest TWRP (2.8.6.1) and flash the NO WIPE 1.40.401.8 firmware. The wipe version contains the stock recovery and you don't want that.
Or, if you want to use Viper, there's an option in Aroma to install it with the 1.32 kernel so you could just skip the firmware update.

Good evening everyone!
I've recently wanted to update my Hercules from 4.1 (I know it's reeealy outdated) to version 6.0 Marshmallow.
So I did a few steps and now I cant' seem to go any further, and I need your help.
So far, I've done the following:
-Installed TWRP 2.8.7.0
-Used Odin to flash the TWRP mentioned above
Now, I know there are a few problems regarding this version of the TWRP on the Hercules, so I tried fixing it by using Odin again and flashing the updated 2.8.7.1 and even the 3.0 version that I found on some threads, but with no sucess.
I haven't even had the chance to install Marshmallow on my phone in the first chance, because I couldn't find any .ZIP folders on the TWRP instalation menu.
I really appreciate your help guys, I'm a noob at this and I'm just starting to figure what is what, I just need my phone updated. It's running so far atleast, so it's not hard bricked I guess.

I'm pretty sure I did everything I was intended to do. I installed Samsung Kies so I could install the drivers on my mobile, and then TWRP through Odin properly with the blue light showing up. After flashing it, it turned green and said PASS or PASSED. So I think I did everything right on that end, I can even access TWRP with no real problems.
I even tried to do a ROOT on my system, but again, I couldn't use ZIP or any other files on the TWRP installation option because they simply do not appear
bump
Watching this thread as I have the same problem.
I can boot to TWRP 2.8.7, but if I try to install, there's no file to install from.
I can go back to TWRP 2.6.0, and then mount the card and see the ROM, but every ROM I try fails. Something about non-virtual partitions if I try 4.4 or better, and error executing updater binary if i try 4.1

I don't know of any problems with any of the recoveries. However there are different recoveries for different roms which need to be used in a specific order and in a specific way, the first time that you virtually repartition your phone.
Have you gone through the process of applying the "virtual partition" and installing the modified "virtual partition" recovery? This is required for most of the MM roms on this phone (Hercules). The process is very well documented here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2-tmobile/help/guidance-sgh-t989-updating-issue-t3414641 in the #2nd post.

I'm pretty new to this and I tried following every step correctly, but I know that I failed or skipped something at some extent and I've been trying to figure out what exactly, so I can fix it. I guess I need to Virtual Partition my phone then, could you post me the link do to so? Because I think you posted one that would take back to this post

I shut it down in TWRP then hold volume down and power to go into download mode.
My phone has gone backwards now though - it doesn't matter what I load in Odin now, it won't boot up. The SAMSUNG screen is on, with a progress bar, but it never gets to the end. It stops right near the end and it sits there until I reboot it again.
Hello there,
This is my first XDA thread! This is an issue I ran into.
I just installed CM 14.1 on my OP3. I downloaded the latest TWRP from the official website before flashing it.
Here is the problem. After setting up my ROM, like installing all the required apps, I'm not able to boot into recovery. I tried flashing TWRP again, I downloaded the oneplus recovery from your website and I flashed that one too.
I erased recovery partition and installed both of them again (erasing each time). What happens is, after booting into the bootloader, I select recovery to go to the recovery and it stays blank, unless I reset it by holding the buttons.
Please let me know what I can do.
Same happened to me also. But somehow I fixed it by installing TWRP again by using OnrPlus 3 toolkit. Here is the toolkit forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/development/tool-tool-one-driversunlocktwrpfactory-t3398993. Can't post links. Don't forget to put http:// front of it

Thanks for the reply.
Are you sure what happened to is exactly what happened to you? Because I tried the ToolKit and it is not working. I tried both the versions of the TWRP and Stock recovery.
If you know anything else about this issue that would help me. I'd love to hear it.

Also. Does encryption affect this in anyway, because I did it. I don't want to factory reset my phone because this is my primary phone and I don't have another phone. And I don't want to risk it, at least for a few days.

Thanks LS.xD. You are awesome. I completely messed up my old Moto X and I didn't have a smartphone until now. I hesitated a lot before installing all custom stuff until I gave in. And this problem made me worry a lot.
Thanks a lot.

Thanks it worked!
Please try the modified TWRP, 3.0.2-22
I will try to explain what happened as best as possible.
I wanted to install the AKT Profile on my un-rooted one plus 3 and so I decided to root it.'
I looked up on google and used the OP3 All In One ToolKit to unlock bootloader and flash TWRP.
Then I booted up phone to download SuperSu in order to flash it.
This is where the problem began. I went into TWRP recovery mode and it asked for a password and that stopped the nandroid backup too. but I googled and found out that doing a Wipe helps you bypass the password bug, so I did that. Now I went ahead and did a nandroid backup.
This is where I don't understand what's going on. How much ever I try to reboot the device, it ONLY loads me back into TWRP Recovery screen.
I even tried to restore the backup, it completes the restore but I dont see any reboot option right after it is done, So i have to long press power button to reload back into TWRP.
Now I'm confused as to what to do and would REALLY appreciate help, ASAP.
P.S - I'm a noob so I probably wont understand high level jargon
thank you guys in advance :crying:
SOLVED : I flashed TWRP 3.0.3 once again and somehow it got fixed
'' doing a wipe help you bypass the password''... Well yes probably, but depending on what type of wipe, you might have wiped your rom/system. So if that is the case, there is no rom to boot into, and your stuck in twrp recovery. Restoring an empty Nandroid wont do anything either. So my guess is you will have to download stock or custom rom and do a fresh install.
If needed, this method works very well.
I used it to day, with success.
Good luck !
Thank you. but will this work with latest TWRP 3.0.3 or will i have to use old one as mentioned in that post?
Use latest twrp 3.0.4.0. Also for clean install with OOS 4.02 or OB11. Also keep both firmware and supersu/magisk superuser close by. You can find all dl-links on xda.

Had the same problem and panicked like hell. I just switched a few twrp recoveries (modded and official) and found one that worked and phone booted.

Its not official but working for me...
Try flashing the stock recovery. I got stuck in recovery loop after the OTA update got installed over twrp. Flashed the stock recovery and right away it booted me to the rom.
It's a problem of older twrp with nougat so you need to flash twrp new version
