Hello, i only have my smart phone (my first one ever) since yesterday.
Managed to set some things up but i can already tell these devices consume a lot of time to do be set up and working right.
One of the first things i did was upgrade it to the latest Android version (7).
Today i took it to the pool to test it's water resistance - it is water resistant, that's the good news, but the bad news is that every time i held the phone under water it would stop recording the video after just a few seconds being submerged, and this with both, front and rear camera - it always showed some note saying something like "in this mode it can not zoom in and zoom out"!! Huh, i did not try to zoom in or out at all and have no clue why it would do this, anyone having an idea??
Next problem ... yesterday (with the original Android version it came with still on) i could connected the USB cord to the laptop and get my pictures out of the device .. today every attempt (except 1) gave me a Windows error message saying something like Windows can not recognize this USB device!! I tried everything, plug te cord into the USB2 port instead of the USB 3 port, same problem, i rebooted te laptop, same problem, i rebooted the phone several times same problem, what on earth is this and how can i fix it??

You should do factory reset, its highly recommended after android upradge. Be sure to back up everything important, as it will erase internal storage.

The phone being water resistant as far as I understand does not mean that it can operate normally under water. It means that being submerged in water (hopefully) will not destroy it. Your particular problem might have to do with the touch screen. Capacitive touch screens can wrongly detect humidity as touch - even if you use them with wet hands. So maybe the display just detects user input while under water?
For the other issue I am afraid I cannot help. Windows can have the most bizarre USB issues. Just make sure that if you ever you did submerge your phone, you do not plug it to the PC (or anything else) before you are absolutely 100% positive that there is no residual humidity in the USB port.

Thanks for the useful reply, i can actually by now answer the issue with Windows not recognizing the USB port of the smart phone, and hopefully this will help others that i have noticed have come across this same issue in great numbers .... I noticed first that also quick charging only did slow charging, using the same port as needed to connect the device to a pc (USB port) than i also noticed that the speakers had no sound .... so i dawned on me ... there is HUMIDITY from the lengthy under water testing in these two "cavities"!! I mean, no water went into the device as such, but some humidity remained in there even though the rest of the phone was completely dried up and everything else was working just fine. Did what i learned online somewhere ... blow it out with the mouth as good as possible and than drop it into a bowl of rice (the rice sucks up moisture like a sponge or even greater). After an hour or so the USB worked just fine again, sound was not yet back in the speaker only in the headset, but after another 'rice hour" also that came back to live!!
Now i only have to find out if under water video taking is simply impossible .. but than again, i saw plenty of such under water videos taken by people in pools, so it should actually be possible, just how??
Yes, touch functions do not react well anymore when the hands are completely wet and this is something don't get, for photos we can use the volume rocker, but for videos not, but it would make a lot of sense to have the option as well for video when the device or the hands are very wet.

I am not an expert, but to me it seems you were lucky the use of the USB connector containing residual water did not damage the phone (or perhaps even the PC). No matter how waterproof the device itself is, due to the open design of our devices' ports, water can collect in them. If you plug a USB cable or headphones, a current will flow. Water in a connection like that can cause a short-circuit. For that reason my old Xperia had little port-doors that sealed the USB port. Unfortunately, those are prone to break off - and simply a pain in the back side to open and close for every charge.
My A5 got wet once, and there even was a message along the lines of "Moisture detected. Please do not plug anything until 100% dry again." And I think that advice should be heeded.

Hmm, i thought the update (pretty heavy one) was to Nougat and not just an updated version of Marshmallow .... bummer
I find it absolutely crazy that you tested your device by submerging it in water for an extended length of time.
Water resistant does not mean waterproof.
I highly doubt that Samsung actually intend the phone to be used under water. Moreover it's protection against accidently dropping the device in to water and gives a level of protection where the device won't be instantly ruined.
They don't make specific underwater cameras for nothing.
Secondly the error regarding the malfunction isn't surprising either. The focusing system probably isnt designed to cope with the refraction effect of the water.
It may work in fixed mode, I don't know. However I don't think it's actually intended to be used that way.

I did not submerge the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) without due prior research!
Meaning .... if you check on Youtube for under water videos taken with this particular smart phone you find a bunch that all seemed to have great fun with it for extended periods of time in the pool, so i assumed if it works for them it should also work for me .... but, of course, your point was also of concern to me, none of these videos tell me what happened to their phones afterwards etc.
On mine the headset, for instance, still works for sound, but the volume and mute buttons on the headset are currently no longer reacting and the speaker is off and on still .... on the other hand, the water resistance clearly points out "can be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes and i am not sure if it says a debt of 1.50 or only 0.5 meters, and i never put it further down than maybe 10 or 20 cm's and for less than 5 minutes each time, so, it this IP68 or whatever it is called is of any real life truth and value the device should have zero problems with being under water for a video of 2 minutes at 15 cm or so dept.
Your thought of the water interfering with the focus metering i can agree with, was also my thought, but in all the YouTube videos i did not see this type of problem , so i am not sure if this was a case that these people all new how to set the camera into some FIXED MODE - can you please let me know how to do this, i did not find any settings for this???

Absolutely Pandotaz, but this message appears on the login screen and i have no login pwd or the like established, so it disappears quickly .. not to mention the small and hard to read print, in other words, easy to over look, exactly what happened to me, but that's what happens to not-so-smart- smart phone beginners who are already a bit older than average :crying:

Option 1) Do you have a casing with a magnet in it, or any other magnets (wallet, bag, etcetera) (dunno for sure if the SGS2 has magnet-activated-carmode as well...?)
Option 2) Shortage in your usb connector? - does it charge correctly, does it connect well to your pc?

it has happened a few times that it dont sync with the comp its just starts to charge the battery instead.

wiped al data. moved to stock firmware, but the problem is still there.
also causing extreme battery heat and drain from 60% to 0 in like 15 minutes
had adw launcer installed for a week or 2 but no problems.
it seems to me when you wipe all data this cant be a problem anymore.

I just noticed my SGS2 doing the exactly same thing today! I'm fairly sure it is related to dirt or dust in the microUSB port, since my friend dropped my phone at the beach (not gonna borrow it to him again!) and it got covered in sand. Few hours later, sporadic car and PC modes, sometimes the phone even thinks it's charging. I tried blowing into the USB jack but to no avail... I hope I won't have to return it!!
I think there might be bad microUSB port soldering. Try connecting your phone to pc and wave/move your phone, or tick the cable with your finger. Does it sometimes looses connection and reconnects right after (might not happen every time)?
Bad port soldering does happen for other phones too. But I'm not sure if this will be covered by the warranty. Service might say that you bend the cable/port too much when connected or something.
Anyone tried to bring the phone for the service because of this issue already? If this is the case service should be able to fix it easily.

Sure enough, some sand particles fell out, and I haven't gotten carmode'd in nearly 13 hours now. Previously it would do it once every 15 minutes. So far so good, it seems.

I'm absolutely certain the warranty would cover this fault, if I pay $675 for a mobile phone I definitely don't expect it to stop working after I insert the USB cable the wrong way!

Thats why I think its soldiering problem. I did the same thing at it helped for some time, then it started vlingo again a few times, then again is ok for several days.
Does your phone do reconnects to PC when moved? It happens for me from time to time and it is scary that for example ROM flashing can get interrupted.

Yes, it did that once or twice, but I thought it was due to the fact that I was trying to remove other USB cables from my computer and accidentally hit the SGS2 cable. If it is actually a problem with the phone, it could actually be dangerous to flash a new ROM!
What we learned so far:
Problem:
1) Vlingo (car mode) starts sporadically (most often when connecting USB).
2) Phone shows "charging" or just "USB connected" even when it is not connected.
3) Sometimes starts "kies mode" without cable if "USB debug" is not enabled.
4) When connecting USB to PC, phone reconnects if moved.
5) Sometimes charging do not start when connecting USB.
6) Sometimes when trying to reboot, battery image with thermometer appears and phone do not start to boot when power button is pressed. It will boot into recovery (Vol Up + Home + Power). Go to the recovery and reboot from there. t
Reason:
USB got polluted or bended. It also happens if you forced to connect USB cable upside down. My guess is that soldiering of USB PCB gets damaged.
Solution (at least makes it happen less often):
Shutdown the phone, take the battery off. Clean the usb port. If it doesn't help then carefully bend the usb PCB a bit downwards.
If anyone brought his phone for service with this problem, please let us know the outcome.

I cleaned the USB port with a toothbrush, and the problem is gone.
After cleaning the the usb and bending back the usb problem never appeared again so far (almost a month).

had the same problem (starting Car mode). After reading that some of your guys think it has something to do with dust, smut, etc. I remember my jogging during heavy rain.
I`m absolutely sure, that was my reason for the behavior. The usb connector has been wet.
After some hours (it was dry), i never see the problem again.
So be careful with your usb connector.

Just to be sure, people say to bend the USB PCB down? To me, it seems like it's very close to making contact with the bottom of the port, so I lifted it up (by putting a thin flathead screwdriver between the PCB and the bottom of the port to lift it up).
Is this right? Or should I be pressing it down even closer to the bottom of the port?
(I'm saying up = towards the screen, just to make sure )

Sometimes bending is needed, because this problem will occur if you accidentally plug USB cable upside down or have bend it with cable. USB PCB has to be very near bottom of the socket.
In your case you probably just need to clean it. What I did, I took a matchstick, sharpened it with a knife, then crushed the end (I did with my teeth ), so you get like a small brush. Then I carefully cleared socked with it (might need to make a few, but matchsticks are cheap here )
Be sure to take of the battery before cleaning, because if you just turn off, cleaning USB with something wet will make your phone to boot.
I'm posting my solution in a couple of threads hoping to help somebody out. This problem was driving me crazy:

Reading http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132588 gave me the idea of cleaning the microUSB port. Of course with the battery removed. I also saw someone having the same problem with a HTC-phone so i guessed it couldn't be a software issue.
I used a non-conducting spray for cleaning electrical wiring (ask for Contact Cleaner), that removes oxidation from electrical contacts and such. I guess one could use Isopropyl Alcohol (from a pharmacy) as well, but i think the contact cleaner is better at removing oxide (reminds me of a less oily wd40).
I used a sharpened toothpick (soaked in spray) to clean the microUSB port but i guess you could soak something like small brush as well (toothbrush?). Once cleaned i let a small droplet fall inside just for good measure.
After a couple of minutes letting the liquid evaporate, i booted my phone to see the bug completely GONE.
The phone has not been in direct contact with water, more than regular humidity, and once or twice in the bathroom while i took a shower. This proves to me that regular use could in fact produce this bug by messing up the microUSB port. And that Galaxy S had an excellent solution by providing a sliding cover.

After a sudden heavy rain, I got some water in my Gnex. I tried the old bag of rice trick, only to find out the USB port was not functioning any more, neither for PC connectivity, nor for charging.
Following the advice of a person I no longer consider my friend, I tried spraying some Isoprpyl Alcohol in the USB port. It did get it to work correctly, but it damaged the digitizer, meaning I get random touches on the lower part of the screen (where the Back, Home and Recent apps buttons are).
I took the phone to a service centre where they tried to clean it, but the issue remains. I'll go there today with my wife's phone to see if it's indeed a touchscreen issue or a motherboard issue. I'm not sure if I want to invest in a new screen (over $100 + maybe a new back cover since the current one has quite a few scratches and cracks) and I'm thinking of maybe upgrading to a Nexus 5 or Xperia Z (the latter being waterproof).
The question now would be, could I do something with the hardware? Like, root it, connect it to my wifi and use it as a web server, or connect it to my TV through an MHL adapter and get a "smart TV". Can I get it to ignore touches on the screen completely, and only accept an OTG/bluetooth mouse input?
Any idea is welcome

One day I got caught in a storm having my Gnex in my pocket. Vacuum and rice tricks didn't work completely, as the phone was working properly besides recognizing the sim card (Mboard issue). What I did was buy a broken screen nexus off of Ebay, and exchanged the screens.
Now I have a fully working mobile phone, plus an MHL connected - XBMC enabled smart TV box, connected with bluetooth mouse/keyboard.
Question: Why would you need to ignore touches on the screen?
As I said, after spraying the USB port with isopropyl alcohol, it appears to have touches all over the bottom part of the screen, as if someone was constantly keeping 3-4 finger and touching away at the soft buttons. Cleaning the phone in a service centre did not help.

Sorry, I missed that info. Try searching for 'touch blocker' in Google Play. Don't know if that would work on a Gnex though.
Another (hardcore) idea would be to disconnect the screen altogether.
My S3 took one of those unfortunate, unexpected dips in a porcelain pool. It was buzzing and crackling before I could get the battery out. Let it dry out and everything was working except for the external speaker. No ringtones, speakerphone, music, etc. So I ordered a replacement for the external speaker module, dissected my phone and cleaned the couple spots that showed traces of water, and put it back together... and the speaker still doesn't work. So assuming there is nothing wrong with the replacement, there is probably nothing wrong with the original... and now I have no clue what to do.
I'm not generally real adventurous with my phone. It's not modded; still running the original OS that came on it from Sprint, but it's not under any kind of warranty or service agreement (and the indicator is now purple anyway.)
The internal speaker works and it vibrates. Microphone and camera are okay. Any suggestions? Please?? "I didn't answer my phone because I didn't hear it ring" is already getting to cause me problems.
There's a good chance that when your device took a swim something else may have been damaged. Did you make sure to check that all the connections were carefully placed, before connecting the new speaker ? Also you said that there were signs of water still in the device when you opened it. How did you dry the device ? Did you use Rice ? Or descant ? Most times just air drying the device does not do the job.

I did just air dry it. When I opened it up there was no actual water remaining, but there was a white residue around what I am guessing is the internal speaker. I used rubbing alcohol on that to remove it. All the ribbon cables are securely in place and while I'm not adept at circuit boards I don't see anything on the motherboard that would appear to be loose or damaged. I can put it in rice if you think it would make any difference at this point.
Yes. I would still suggest putting it in rice for a few days. Even at this point. Electronics and water don't mix well. Especially smartphones. I've seen devices still have some moisture trapped in them, even after three days of Air Drying. Although the rice may not solve the issue. It's worth a try. If that doesn't resolve anything. ODIN the Stock Tar. If that still doesn't resolve the issue, well then it's time to take it in, and have a repair center look at it.

My phone is A505F/DS
It got very little water / chlorhexidine? (COVID-19 fact ) inside the charging port.
After that it just shutdown by itself. I tried to charge . It got "overheated" sign and it won't even start.
So, dug abit over youtube and decided to wash off the type c port with IPA(isopropyl alcohol) , but it is literally impossible to find it now-a-days (again COVID-19 fact) . Also i am in complete lockdown on my side of the country.
So, having no other options in my hand, i brushed the port with plain water and my toothbrush !!!!lol!!!!!!!! and to my utter surprise, it started and working 95% ok. But, now i am having one issue. Randomly, when i charge or do nothing but surf internet or YouTube , it can rarely notify " device overheating.. bla ... bla..bla" .
So i installed couple of temp monitoring apps and observed, this phone has only one temperature sensor? Called "battery temp ". Whenever it reaches 50°c it stops battery charging (obviously lipo safe operating temp range's upper limit is around 50°c). And when it goes around 59°c level it stops all phone functions apart from emergency call .
Now, what i need help about, is it possible to change the threshold level of cutting of the charging of the battery to 53°c around? Coz i have seen that even if the device is like of room temperature the "battery temp" hangs around 50-52°c and suddenly goes back to normal.
Plz help. In this lockdown, this little digital entertainment device is what i am passing my most time with And trying to get a living in this tough times.
Turn off fast charging if you updated to Android 10 (it's new feature in OneUI 2.0), also try to not use phone when it's charging.

You cant fix this peoblem just by ignoring the high temperatures, its obviously a hardware issue and you made it worse by using water to clean the charging port. Water is very corrosive to electronics and may create shorts. You phone probably need to be desassembled and properly cleaned with isopropyl alcohol. Some components may need to be replaced(i hope no). Its imo dangerous to continu using it as it is

[Update] today i was just surfing the internet, and the temperature suddenly shoot up to 62°c but the device on hand was cool enough to consider the temperature reading false . Most probably your temperature sensor is giving wrong details to OS.

Yeah . Right?
Again today it randomly shot upto 63°c. Like from 45°c . It was jumping around like crazy for about 15 minutes.... now again normal.

Quick update.
Almost a month no problem faced
What i did..
1. Turned off fast charging (i think this is the most important thing to do)
2. Not using the phone while charging
3. Keep the phone @floor while charging( keeps it cool i guess?)
I kept it away for 2 days wrapped i tissue paper untouched and it seemed to be back to normal.(so far its been 3 2 days since the problem stopped happening)
My phone like your phone break and say over hearting error

I just had this same exact problem with my a50. I asked Google before I bought it if the A50 was water resistant and found 4 sites that said yes. Turns out it isn't and I cleaned the phone after shopping in lockdown and it started malfunctioning. I just successfully fixed it last night by watching a YouTube video that shows disassembly and then removing very small units from the charging port sub board. You only need a 00 Phillips screwdriver, a piece of plastic water bottle and tweezers or xacto blade. It shows how to remove the malfunctioning thermistor
Replace the charging PCB to fix the issue
In most cases, you need to replace the charging board to fix the issue. There is no other way to get rid of that problem:

This is what I did to fix mine. Removed those 3 components that @Gspain2020 was talking about. I used a soldering iron and a needle, but tweezers or an exacto knife will probably be better. Or you could get a new charging daughterboard which should also fix the problem.
If you remove those components, the phone will be unable to detect the temperature, which can be dangerous if you allow it to overheat. Instead of the phone managing the temperature, you must stop using it if it gets too hot.

I love my phone and am not looking to change it,I was in a meeting with my client and my phone dropped in water while doing so, but I had immediately pulled it out and cleaned and switched it off without any further damage.
Just to let you know that I had a back cover for this also which would have protected it to a good shot, however i am more concerned about the front panel and bottom side of charging port speaker, mic and headphone jack.
I could not open it from back else i would have done that and just put that in the rice bag for about 36 hours or more. then i put it under the morning sunlight for about 20 minutes.
Due to the sun I believe that the back panel now near o the bottom side appears to be pulled out a bit.
I have not swtiched it on yet even once, however, I have again put it back in the rice bag.
Any helps here, what should I do and when do i need to turn it on to see any damages.
I do want to go to service center for experts to get it cleaned it inside. However due to lock down i can't do it.
Can anybody guide me what and how to do from here.
I am really not in a mood to get a new phone. There are a lot of stuff saved on the phone that I even don't even have the backup for.
Please help me with this ASAP!
Definitely something shorted in your phone, unfortunately we can't just guessing which part is shorted, usually some diodes, but it can also be an IC.

Hi arif, I have just tried working on my phone yesterday and seems like it is working fine for now. It's juts that it s lagging a bit.
everything is functional. I guess I'll have to wait until something strange starts to happen.
Hopefully then lockdown is over and we can get it fixed permanently.
