Hi guys,
I just got an S8+ for a really good deal and I had an S7 a couple phones ago, and I love Samsung Pay. Now my question is, it's annoying to manually launch Samsung Pay when I want to use it, unlock/power on, swipe up from tray, unlock with fingerprint, etc. Android Pay is much quicker, able to auto launch when near an NFC terminal and just put in FP. Is there anything like that for Samsung Pay and disable FO when already unlocked? Something like that maybe?
You don't have to turn on the screen or unlock. Even with the screen off and locked, swipe up from the bottom edge. Samsung Pay will open. Then verify with fingerprint or Iris or pin. Easy peezy.
You are a life saver! Thank you!!

So I purchased my GSM Galaxy Nexus in March of this year thru Amazon. From a Samsung seller, Yapper Wireless.
My power button has suddenly stopped working, don't know why as I can't even remember the last time it's been outside of it's Otterbox. There's no moisture or anything, it's just stopped responding. I've been able to set it up in AOKP so my volume buttons wake the device but it's just a pain to live with.
I call Samsung today since they have a Limited 1 Year Warranty on defective Hardware. Apparently per my IMEI number my Galaxy Nexus is an International Galaxy Nexus, and the only place I can get them to fix the power button is by making an International Call to Samsung Europe and sending the phone to Europe???
The Girl was no help, I'm trying to explain that it's just the power button this is a common issue apparently. Nope gotta make an International call and ship it to Europe.
Anyone else have this kind of issue with repairs for the phone and have possible some kind of workaround getting it repaired with Samsung? Like I said I'm living with it for now but it's just a pain.
Thank you
As an update, I called the Samsung Repair Center in Europe from my work phone since we have international calling. They won't take the phone because I'm in the US and there's potential problems returning the device to me. And Samsung in the US won't fix it because the phone is from Europe.
Well played Samsung.

+1. Highly recommended. My power button isn't dead (yet), but I have to press down on it until it feels like it's underneath the housing to get it to respond. Been like that for a while now, but it hasn't got any worse because I have been using that app. Swipe halfway down the screen from right to left to wake, across the bottom from right to left to lock. If the screen times out a simple tap wakes it back up without locking. You can also customize the gestures so you can swipe it wherever you want. It also has very very very little drain on battery, if any at all. I still consistently get 4hrs screen on time with a 4G connection 100% of the charge, GPS, sync & sometimes Bluetooth ON. Stream Pandora for a bit as well as YouTube, Facebook and XDA browsing. That's getting off topic though. This app will take that pain you're suffering right away. Totally worth it, check out the reviews on play store. PGM Nexus

Well for now I've set the timeout on the screen to 15 seconds and use the volume buttons to wake it up. I've worked around it already it's just a pain to have it broken and the manufacturer stonewall me on getting it fixed.
My T-Mobile contract is up for renewal right now, looking at the Nexus 4, but it's LG...
Worse case, power buttons are inexpensive and I don't think too difficult to replace. Good luck.
Head on over to the N4 forum and see how others feel about it to get a better decision as to whether or not you want it. Couldn't help you there, haven't visited those forums once yet. However in the meantime I would still look into PGM Nexus. I had the free version from day 1 since I bought the phone. Power button started to die so I bought the full app. Now I couldn't really care less about returning it or getting it fixed. It just works, and well. Sets upon reboots too so you don't have to wake it with the volume keys and then turn it on. It's great lol. I swear by it. Also pretty cool because I chill with a lot of iPhone users and they all thought it was cool how I turn my phone on and off.

I purchased the PGM Nexus app, works really well and I like it for what I need it for.
But the power button is apparently now working fine after over 24 hours of not functioning. I've had some mild panic attacks over it and it just started functioning again. I'll keep PGM Nexus though, appreciate it.
Hahaha I think your nexus is messing with you.

I use pgm nexus to turn the screen on and Standby Touch shortcut in my dock to quickly turn the screen off.. I've been using this setup for quite sometime now to save my power button and I really like it.

Mine was broken as well. Slowly giving me problem then one day dead...I had to plug it in in order to turn on...anyways was able to root again and then it came back to life a little bit when I changed rom for the OTA 4.1 worked still almost never and then while trying to root again in order to flash a 4.2 custom rom at the begining i couldn't select anything with volume...suddenly I was able to scroll with volume button and now the power button works as if nothing never happend...Odd anyway just thought i'd share
I am wondering about the lg g4. The phone seems really good. But I have a couple concerns. Did you guys get used to the buttons on the back really quick? They seem really weird to me. Also, I want to buy the h811 model. How easy is this model to root/ROM?
The buttons are great. Very convenient. The phone overall is very good. Root is easy if you know what you're doing. Currently on the 10n software, you have to flash the rooted/patched system partition. Then you can flash TWRP via adb shell.
Edit: for 811, rooted system:

I tested it for the insiders back in may literally four hours after taking it out of the box for found myself pulling my z2 out and trying to tap the back to turn on
Now when I pick up my tablet I keep reaching to the back without thinking
So for me it was easy but my wife doesn't like it but loves tap to sleep/wake and she automates her volumes based on time so she only touches them if it runs out and she has to boot back up
We have the unlockable h815 so can't say about root

Hi, I have had the phone for a few days now and can honestly say the buttons on the back are a great feature. If you hold a phone like I do either with left or right hand and the bottom corner of the phone resting lightly around the fleshy part of your palm, your index finger will automatically go to the buttons and they are very tactile, so without any thought you know the up or down and power button. It has been hit and miss on other phones for me with rockers etc, and during certain operations rockers on the side just get in the way, so buttons on the back for me is an actual improvement and keeps build up of dirt in those places to a minimum.
The phone straight out of the box comes with double tap to wake/sleep functioning, so I mostly use that to turn phone on or off anyway. I also use knock code which again functions when the screen is off. If you've had a phone before rooted and kernal added this function, you'll know just how useful and easy it is, the knock code addition is a very clever way of adding to this feature in my opinion as it doesn't have finger print scanning, which still takes seconds to register so no big deal.
I don't know about root etc for 811 as I have H815, but just having a quick look there are methods on these forums.
I am still using the G2, before that I had the HTC One X. From the first day that I had my G2 I loved the buttons on the back, the double tap to wake is awesome.
I want to get This phone, but not being able to unlock bootloader means no CM / Vanilla, will be getting the H815P.
I have the luck of having the same phone for 20 months before I can upgrade. I can upgrade today, on my way out soon.
I really have fallen for LG, If South Africa had the nexus phones available on contract I would get one.
Unless you get the H815 there is no Roms/Recovery or Bootloader Unlock. Only root is available for other models which was fairly easy to do.
The button placement is the best place ever and I wish all manufacturers would transition to do the same. No more accidentally turn on the phone if you hold it a certain way or grab it from your pocket. Asus is also placing the buttons the same way as LG. Double tap to wake / turn off the screen is the best.
I would definitely opt for the LG v10 if you don't mind the phone size difference. Every reviewer picks the v10 over the G4 for best phone of the year. Especially due to the video recording issue our G4 encounters. Since I don't shoot much video I could care less however.

Last night I finally setup android pay and thought I would use it on the bus this morning. I tapped and tapped and nothing happened so I quickly grabbed my bank card and used that. When I got to my seat a green tick appeared... So now I paid twice
I have a few questions if anyone can help?
- Is NfC quite slow to register when paying normally?
- Where is the sensor on the phone? Maybe I was tapping in the wrong place.?
- Does the android pay app need to be open when paying? I had it open but believe it should work with just phone unlocked.
- I have a thick rugged plastic and rubber case. Would that be an issue?
Thanks for your help any answers appreciated.
Since my first post I managed to get a coffee and into the train and think I have answered most of my questions...
- Slowness I think was just because it was the 1st time I had used Android pay. Subsequent payments are fast.
- NfC must be near the camera, works immediately when I tap there now.
- thick case is no problem.
- Phone works unlocked no need to open the app and displays a handy notification on screen for successful payment.
So I'm sorted and I'm not even in the office yet.
Not sure if buses hate me or the readers on buses are different but I'm finding NfC slow on buses in London. But great everywhere else?
You don't need to unlock the phone, just turn the screen on.
You've already answered your own questions, but yes the NFC chip is just under the camera and for me payment it's practically instant.
I'm getting the moisture popup all the time....
I've read and confirmed that the oldBatteryWaterConnector value is returning True when the error happens and False when I can charge normally....
I know the risks of forcing if, but is there a way to force it always be False or something like that?
Or a way to disable the sensor, or anything... It's maddening and I'm positive the port is not obstructed nor wet.... I never get near water with the phone...
It's a oversensitive sensor and there should be a way to disable.....
Please, an idea that do not involve "Dry it" 50 times a day or reboot it all the time I want to get fast charging working again [which works every time without complaints of moisture btw]
SM-A720F, HadesRom v6, MagiskRooted
Thanks in advance
This problem is bugging a lot of people like you and me. I am also still waiting for some genius mind to come up with a fix or work around.
I'll contribute $50 to a bounty to someone who can disable this. It is obviously a software limitation, especially since they programmed in a bypass to allow charging by restarting and plugging in the cable upon the splash screen. I hope someone finds a software bypass.

I don't think there is a dedicated sensor. I am guessing that power is fed into one more contacts and it detects when there is slight voltage coming back in another contact. So it should be pretty simple if someone knew where to look for the code.

Running into more Samsung issues. They put restrictions onto WiFi tethering with the latest on the go update. I have the international Exynos version, so the bootloader is unlocked and I can downgrade until I find a suitable replacement.. I predicted Samsung will turn into Apple; this is the last Samsung phone I will purchase and I will shoot it in the plinking range. It's sad, just like Apple, they had superb hardware, but some of the most restrictive software.

You are sure that isn't the carrier restricting tethering?

Face unlock in android phones isn't secure and it's not something new.

You shouldn't have made another thread to talk about the same issue.
To be honest Samsung has clearly said this method of unlock is less secure. That is, anyone who looks like you (doesn't matter if you don't think they do) can unlock the phone. It's also reported on the internet that Samsung has said face unlock is primarily a way to expedite access to the phone. In other words it's a convinience feature. Here's one link to an article on the subject.
https://www.techradar.com/news/sams...rprint-scanner-not-face-unlock-to-stay-secure
Basically this isn't face ID, the phone cannot perform 3D mapping of your face... The note 10+ has a 2D front facing camera that takes a 2D image of your face and compares it with the 2D images of whoever's face it sees when someone tries to unlock it.
You can try a few things and see if it helps. Try removing your face from your phone and re-register again... But this time make sure that your doing it in a brighter place (with more ambient lighting) and try again. Registering in poor lighting can cause accuracy issues. Facial hair, glasses, and etc can also cause accuracy issues.. so you might run into problems no matter what you do.
Also turn off Faster Recognition, you have it enabled on the phone. While it will increase the speed of facial recognition it comes at the price of reduced security/accuracy of said recognition.
For me I don't like face unlock on android. Only Huawei Mate 20 Pro has 3D face recognation as Apple iPhone's. Fingerprint works perfect on my note. I gave to arround many prople in work to unlock my phone and result was unsucessful for other people. So I trust fingerprint. I want Samsung add killswitch as on iPhones. If you have stolen iPhone you are 100% out of luck to bypass icloud. Why Samsung can't make like this, independent from Android self. Integrate own secure killswitch. Sure on rooted phone you can put some software which gonna work even after flash firmware. But I don't want to root phone.

samsung: its not secure , we've told u this

Who really cares.. Honestly.. It's been said a million times its not secure, so if you use it.. Oh well.. For Samsung, they should have stuck with the iris scanners.. But they are idiot's when it comes to"keeping" good tech on their devices..
