Phone is a few days old and pretty much experience the cprog.exe problem every time I get on the net. Does anyone know if upgrading to 6.5 will get rid of that nuisance of should I deal with it before upgrading?
If you flash and install a fresh ROM then you shouldn't have any errors.
If you'd like, you could start by clearing the memory (Hard Reseting) the phone and the message should clear up. But maybe you installed an app that triggered the error so it might come back once you re-install it.
Either way, don't forget to backup your info as it will wipe everything out from contacts to any music and files saved to the main memory, anything in your microSD should fine.
Good luck!

That issue is believed to be caused by programs/apps dragging their feet when closing. If you want to do something about it now before upgrading, you can simply go into settings and disable error reporting...you won't get the messages any more, and everything should still work ok (based on historical evidence). However, since the cause is software-based, flashing to the new ROM should sidestep the issue since you're completely replacing the entire software package, and not messing with it beforehand shouldn't cause it to stick around and haunt you in 6.5.
Thanks guys. I was hoping a ROM replacement would help. Actually, no apps or programs installed yet. All I've done is sync contacts, calendar, notes, to do, and some Word files. Here's hoping 6.5 will work out fine. Thanks again.
Hi,
Its weird that there's no thread and nobody mentioned the market place issue on wp7 for few days ago i wasn't able to download anything now Microsoft have this app. (Refresh marketplace) to solve this issue but it didn't i have followed the step by step guide and it didn't help. now i have done a hard reset to my phone of curse i lost everything now i have installed the refresh marketplace app. again and still nothing .....any ideas guys on this issue?
thanks
I am also facing this trouble for more then a week.......
Searched a lot for solution but in vain......
If anyone had any solution please suggest us too.............
hmm, I had issues a while back but they are not related, I did however get that refresh marketplace app pop up, on my first attempt at installing it my original problem prevented it installing, that's kind of irrelevant though, after I fixed my issue the refresh app appeared once again BUT has since vanished without me installing it.
I wonder if this is an app that 7.8 needs and isn't quite ready for 7.5 or something like that.
I now have the same issue after reactivating my HTC Mozart after some time of not using it. I installed the "Refresh Marketplace" app but marketplace still doesn't work. Right now I'm trying the last hint before hard resetting: Restart, activate data connection and power plug the device for at least 24 hours while keeping the marketplace app open.
hmmm Strange. can it have something with the Windows Live ID problems that was before. some of the Windows Live IDs have also had some errors a while ago. Microsoft has a bunch of stuff to do now with WP 8 and WP 7.8 preparing. i think this is only a little bug which will go away in few days or weeks. but weeks is sometimes to long, i now.

Hi toolsche, did it solved your problem after resetting???
Was playing around with OSBuilder and the 8858 dumps and kept having what sounds like the same issue with every rom I created. Being a noob I figured I was including an unnecessary package or missing a package somewhere. Tried everything including the refresh marketplace app and changing live i.d. What was strange was the "icons" for the apps looked newer or at least different. Wish now I had taken a screenshot.
On my Omnia 7, it was solved with a hard reset.
Hardreseting is actually heart breaking......
Wish if some senior/serious member can suggest workaround....
I know many user are facing same problem....

Just an update
My marketplace today started working on its on, without me hard resting or anything......
Simply just like that.....

Unfortunately I had to hard reset my Omnia W to get Marketplace working again.
HTC rolled out the lollipop 5.0 update OTA about two weeks ago in my region. I've downloaded it an installed it.
Now my phone occasionally gets stuck , for example in "Recent Apps" , it just stops responding sometimes ,and only locking the screen and unlocking it solves it.
But today I've discovered a new problem , when I use Facebook Messenger , the phone gets completely stuck! , it's like working on a 95' computer , where every click makes it go incredibly slow..
Does anyone else experience this sort of issues? Does anyone know how to fix it ?
I've been thinking about performing a hard reset, but I think all my data on the phone will be erased so I'm trying to think of an alternative solution.
Thanks.
FB Messenger is horrible on 5.0.1, I'm waiting on them to fix it as once removed Lollipop is fine
But, personally, I'd backup your data and factory reset it. Best way to get any bugs out left over from the update

I had the same issues. Mine is a custom rom but all my investigation led me to OS issues and not customization.
Backup your data and factory reset. After that all should be fine.
I am using messenger now and working fine.
Try disabling the "NuPlayer (experimental)" in developer options. I have read somewhere on here that it helps some guys with problems when using Facebook.
I won't know myself as I'm not a facebook user in general and haven't logged on there for more than a year now.
Thank you all for the help.
About the data back-up, which way is the best way to do it? Does HTC have a built-in function for it?
Yes, you can use the HTC backup or google sync.
I've a Win Jr LTE phone & the update ran while I was out, despite telling it not to run updates without my express permission - it has now screwed up touchscreen so the phone is entirely unusable. Does anyone have any suggestions?
NB: telling me to "do a hard reset & lose everything" is NOT a suggestion I want to hear, since its not a viable option in this case, since backup on the phone hasn't worked since I got it on multiple cards & via onedrive.
I can't use browser or keyboard, anything with controls at bottom of screen is useless, there (of course) is no obvious way of re calibrating touch screen so the phone is effectively useless.
Apologies if in wrong place but the site doesn't seem to do anything other than lag, or make choices for me I didn't select.
I would strongly recommend NOT installing this (version ends. 67) as it appears as buggy as usual Microsoft efforts and has been bricking some phones completely I have since found out.

the issue is known (by now, think it wasnt the prior cause otherwise the device should not have received the update). the problem is somehow the os uses a wrong resolution 540X960 instead of 480X854 which ****s up the touch
two options: opt in into release-preview-ring of the insiderprogram and get the .82. maybe it already fixed the problem. second option: going back...
use external display application on your pc or pair a bluetooth mouse/keyboard if its impossible to reach the insider options (be ware: if you havent signed up as insider before it may take up to 24hrs till you will find new builds)
Yeah, I had guessed it must be something like that, because the touchscreen reacts differently from one side to other and from top to bottom.
It's frustrating though because I can remember screw ups like this from Microsoft 20 years ago and they're still making same elementary mistakes, and it's not as if specs for these phones are hard to find or there's unknown multitudes of windows 10 phones out there, like with Android..
Windows 10 honestly has the potential to be excellent but if someone with 20 years IT engineering experience can't fix it for herself because the tools just aren't there then what hope non technical people? And they are just the people who will give Windows 10 traction.
Has anyone managed to find any files that set environment variables like in android?
PS if someone builds an equivalent of the Nokia E7 running Android or Windows 10 let me know, I'll happily bite their hands off, much prefer a good hardware kbd.
im pretty sure there is no way on the blu devices to interop it and made registry editing possible (should be an easy task to modify the setting for the screen resolution). you could sideloading vcreg after activating dev mode, but im pretty sure it wont be able to write reg values and cant research atm where the value for the resolution is stored
vcreg works only on Lumia
I've tried the feedback and the insider updates and I can't get to either of them because of the screen. Is it possible someone could put this up on feedback for me as I'm sure I'm not the only person with this issue.. Microsoft would only have to release a very small patch fix to solve this issue..
Thanks in advance
Hi all, I recently got a Surface RT and reinstalled Windows RT on it as brend new device.
Windows starts from RT 8.1 and after some updates (almost 70) it updates the Surface firmware and switch to Windows 8.1 RT update (1). From that a few more updates and than my Surface can't find any windows updates and can't install Store Apps.
The Windows Update keeps being stuck on "serching for updates" forever and the Store apps won't install giving me an error about my slow internet connection.
I know for sure that the last Update is the update 3 for Win RT which I won't ever be able to install. I'm pretty sure that some update screwed my Windows Update center. I've re-installed a fresh new Win few times and alwyas got stuck at this point.
Any help?
Hi,
I have a very similar problem at the moment. I refreshed my surface 2 last week as the storage had filled up and couldn't be cleared by any other normal means. After reset, the first batch of updates would install but afterwards would get stuck on the "searching for updates". I have reset several times with the same problem occurring each time. Finally I reset using a usb recovery following the guide given on windows central forums (wont let me post link)
This time after installation, even on the first check for updates, it gets stuck. Been running now for over 24 hours and still nothing.
Hopefully someone on here will know the answer. I will follow this thread with interest.

Typical, no sooner had I written the post above then the search for updates finally finished after 25 hours. 262 updates found and ready for installation. Turns out that nothing other than (extreme) patience is required for the problem to sort itself out. It might be worth adjusting your power settings so that your surface does not go to sleep and hence interrupt the search. Good luck and hope it works out for you.
Hi and thanks for answering, I don't feel alone anymore. Here's my story:
The first time I resetted Windows was just after purchasing my Surface, brand new Win on and I used my surface for almost a week, researched for updates and installed it (firmware update and something like 76 first and 35 later) till the Windows RT 8.1 update (1).
I realized something was wrong as soon as Windows Store started giving me the same network error for each app I was trying to install. Looking for windows update was stuck on "Checking for update" for more than one hour (standby time on AC plugged in setted to never). Latest update available for the Surface RT is the Windows RT 8.1 Update 3.
Restored Windows, kept my apps but removed all the updates. Windows Store worked again, same for Updates. Installed two cycles (just like before) and again same situation... Windows Store started giving me the same network error for each app I was trying to install, looking for windows update was stuck on "Checking for update" for more than one hour (standby time on AC setted to never).
I tried every fix coming up on the web: wsreset, windows troubleshooting app for windows update and windows app and even deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder.
At this point I chatted with an MS employ through Surface assistance web page. She suggested me to reinstall a fresh windows copy from Microsoft web site using a USB drive and so I did...
Yesterday night it all came back, second cycle of updates, Windows Store started giving me the same network error for each app I was trying to install, looking for windows update was stuck on "Checking for update" for more than one hour (standby time on AC setted to never). I again tried all the fixes, nothing worked and so I restored Windows keeping my apps.
I'm now typing from my Surface, just restored but no updates installed yet. I'm really getting upset to MS for all this ****. Hope you get more luck.
Next week I won't need my Surface to much so I may try looking for updates for more than 24 hours and see if I can get out of this updates cycle.
Looking forward for better news and know if thing are working for you.
P.S. Text me the link you were talking about.
Updates: I've installed the KB2029xxx update (Update 1) and after that, as alwyas, Windows won't find any other update. I've let it check for more than 24 hours but still on "checking for updates".
Don't know what else to do.
Hi, I think it's about their servers aswell. I've tried everything and more to get out of this situation but nothing worked.
Last thing I did yesterday was:
1. Flush DNS "ipconfig /flushdns"
2. Run Windows Update troubleshooting
3. Checking for updates
And again is was stuck for hours till I gave up and shut it down.
The main difference is that flushing in DNS clear the Windows Update cache so it now looks like no updates are installed and updates history is blank.
Nothing changed tho. I guess MS removed (or blocked?) updates after Update 1.
Somewhere, somehow, I've red it's possible to "cook" your own ISO of Windows RT including major updates.
I'll find more out.
Keep us updated, the longest time for me was about 27 hours.

I checked again last night (48 hours) and again this morning. The Windows update bar was still scrolling away doing nothing. However, when I right clicked to shutdown, I now had option to 'Upsate and restart'. Choosing this it began installing 183 updates.
This was all done with Surface2 plugged in, sleep set to never, running via Wifi to 1GBps fiber broadband. I'm just happy it actually did something. Data must be drip-feeeding in using BITS at inperceptibly slow rate. So good news, it can work but just barely.
Wish you luck with yours. Hopefully @never_released can provide us an alternative OS solution in near future.

Great news. What would you suggest now? I can't let my Surface RT plugged for 2 days 'cause I need it, however I was thinking about pluging it in and let it check for updates during the night time, should be about 10 hours per day, and repeat this process till I find the magic "Update and Restart" button takes over the classic restart.
I've alwyas been checking using the metro Windows Update and not the Desktop's one.
Same issue here on my surface 2. I bought it off a buddy and reinstalled windows from an image found on the MS website. after installing the first batch of updates it just keeps searching. I found that while its searching I cannot download apps from the store it keeps spitting back the network is not fast enough despite being able to watch NF on multiple devices at once. its starting to bug me a little bit cuz i do want the new start menu.
Its not confirmed yet, but it might be worth to mention.
I've contacted Microsoft for this problem, and after hours, maybe days of troubleshooting they finally came to the conclusion that its pretty annoying.
However I did a request for making new system images (for the RT devices) since they are not supported by updates anymore.
The request has been sent and awaiting response. Let's all hope that my request will be get through and we will get new recovery images which are up-to-date anywhere soon.

Please keep us updated!
Looks like that the ony way to go trought this at the moment is to just let your Surface check for updates, AC pluged, never set to sleep, for something about 30-40 hours till, still checking for updates, opening the shutdown menu shows the "Update and Restart" option.
I just had an idea. Maybe it could work maybe not but the people who where able to receive the updates on surface rt/2 upload the contents of their SoftwareDistribution (including Software distribution.Old if present) folder located in the windows folder so us that can't get them can just install them manually. Just an idea tho.
Quick update after factory reseting my surface 2 and attempting to do the first batch of updates I found that a bunch of my important updates fail to install. Causing my tablet to loose ability to install apps and find updates no matter what fix I try. Going try installing updates manually over the next few days and see if that helps.
mattschwantes said:
Mine also had many failed updates in the first batch of 64. Keep doing update/restarting. Once you get through that initial batch, they seem to more/less succeed after that.

I've gotten through about 3 sets of updates further then I've gotten before. This time I didn't use my Microsoft account and just made a local account and I only installed the one that were auto ticked I figure I've don't about 120 updates now. It's checking for updates atm but hopefully by morning it'll be done.

oh well thanks for that. I just hope that maybe they will make a recovery image with all the updates pre-applied. or even unlock it for us but that's just being hopeful.
now I keep getting "connection too slow" error from the app store and when I run the troubleshooter I keep getting "service registration missing or corrupt - not fixed" I've contacted support via helpdesk but they are almost useless and i cant go to the surface support because it wants me to pay because my warranty is up.
Edit- just after typing this they put me in contact with someone from the surface department. hopefully they can help fix these issues.
mattschwantes said:
The Windows Update Troubleshooter always says Service Registration Missing or Corrupt. Even on a freshly recovered Surface RT/2.
It claims to fix the problem. Run it again, it detects no issue. But this only lasts until you restart. After restart, it behaves same as before. I think the Troubleshooter is actually just incorrect.

these issues are really starting to bug me I've reset my surface 2 about 10 times within the last 3 days. even if they stopped supporting the device we should be able to update and use it on the latest updates with no problem. talking to support is useless they always tell you to do the same steps over and over again.
