Hey guys!
I was wondering what the best ROM is in terms of gaming performance and overal speed.
I tried resurrection remix, FreedomOS.
Currently I am thinking of testing paranoid android, something about being coded on Snapdragon language coding etc making it faster. (dunno if it's true)
And how much faster is F2FS when it comes to daily use and gaming?
I sincerely hope someone can anwser these questions for me.
I finally got rid of my HTC m7 which i used for 3-4 years & am totally in love with my 3T midnight black edition.
Cheers!

A rom is not really going to make a difference in games. A kernel can, i would stick with stock and maybe try out Xceed since it is an overclocked kernel and gives more peformance.. I wouldn't use F2fs the difference in speed is minimal and the stability is alot more off, not worth the risk I would say.

Paranoid android is good for stability and speed but the current build has an annoying phone idle battery drain bug , the Devs have said an update is coming soon but I'd recommend xXx no limits ROM along with xceed or elementalx kernel...
Only two roms gave me good gaming experiences. Stock rom with EX kernel overclocked and using Mostafa waels Burnout AKT profile.
and other one is Phoenix AOSP rom with renders kernel.

Hi, i just wanted to ask if you guys think if stock or custom roms are better because i dont want to take an hour to format my n7 to answer a simple question So what do you think is the fastest for games (heavy 3d ones) and performance wise? stock or other custom roms. I dont really care for other features, i care for mostly the performance. Thanks and happy easter!

Hi and happy easter too !
Generally customs are not faster than the Google stock. But with customs kernels/ROMs, OverClocking and OverVolting is possible, so you can have better performance.
I'm actually using CM11 Nightlies with the latest ElementalX Kernel. I love CM and other innovative and fiddled customs, because they open a lot of possibilities, like theme or other exclusive features. Personally, i'm not a fan of OC and OV, it reduce battery life, and hardware life because of overheating.
Maybe my choices are not the better one, but it's my choices.
For my part, CM ROMs have in general i've seen a better battery performance than stocks, because they're decrapified.
that's all ;p
If you're looking for the best performance I would suggest Clean ROM latest version with either Elemental X kernel or Glitch kernel. Your N7 will be smoking fast!

Thanks for your answers :victory: I think im going to stick with CleanRom+elementalx :good:
Great choice!

Hey guys.
Just want to know your thoughts about ROM performance in terms of smoothness on different roms.
I was a long time user of tylers RR build and it was really fluid.
Now i am back on Imperium since a month (because of camera) and its overall UI performance is worse that RR.
Can you please give me some thoughts about your experience in UI/ROM peformance on Rom/builds?
thx

Well I'm not surprised you experience worse UI performance on Stock based ROMs, overall in my experience the UI performance in AOSP Custom ROMs is way more fluid and smoother, but the performance in apps is slower than in Stock based ROMs. A bit longer load times, less frame rate's but a more stable frame rate in games and a bit less responsive after a long period of use. For me the camera performance and photo and video quality on Stock based ROMs outweighs AOSP ROMs and that keeps me close to Stock. I have used Dualboot Patcher for a while so I could use AOSP ROMs as my primary ROM and and a Stock based ROM as my secondary ROM so I could still enjoy a fluid and smooth UI and the camera performance of Stock when needed. I really dislike the micro stutters I experience on Stock, especially when I'm scrolling. But I dislike my phone getting slow after a long period of usage even more, which forces me to reboot my phone regularly. So because of that I am running a Stock based ROM as my primary ROM for now.

thx a lot for your feedback!
Thats a good idea with dualboot patcher, but (for me) not really practical
Your experiences coincide with mine!
In my case i also had thermal issues with AOSP roms -> cpu runs hotter quickly than on stock.
Did you also experienced such a behaviour?
Which AOSP rom do you use?
And which do you think has the best (UI) performance?
thx

No problem! :good:
Oh, for me the CPU on AOSP ROMs actually ran a bit cooler and heated up less quickly than on Stock. Although my G4 never really runs that hot even on Stock. And I forgot to mention that I get better battery life both in stand by time and average SOT while running a AOSP based Custom ROM.
At the moment I run a Stock based ROM on my G4 but I have used CyanogenMod till it's end and it's successor Lineage OS which it's pretty much the same but under a new name . I've also tried other ROMs but most of them where based on CM and are based on Lineage OS and they pretty much performed more or less the same. So no big differences.
That's why i do not use any more customs roms...
It's on the decline !
I agree with you !
-camera and video quality lost
-lost performance after a long usage
-lost customer patent and innovation
-lost the pure performance on games
-the modem is not as well as exploited as customers firmwares (sometime bad network quality on customs)
-always minors buggs and sometime big buggs
-near all devellopers wait for Lineage source (Lineage spend 1 year to build an android version and it's never "perfect"....and lots of merges,abandon,clean... on their source all the time,it's never stable and finished)
- on RR,DU...etc....you remove design customizations and you see an empty poor rom
-you loose FM radio function and there never have had effort by the dev for to port an alternative like spirit-fm radio (this dev have had big succes with some very difficult phones ,and som LG)
-you have much more chance than stock to have battery drain with some system process (the main cause of stocks firmwares drain is the google apps ! )
Maybe a custom rom is good for low and some middle-end devices (principaly for to have a light rom.....and hardwares are not the best on these devices ) but completely useless for hight-end device like G4...that's my opinion !
I use a MM firmware + simpleGX 2.0.3 kernel and i'm very happy ! Very good...

Hi all,
Yes, we all know. Every month somebody is answer this question.
But also every week/month there is a new rom, custom build etc. etc.
So my question friends.
With rom is stable, smooth and bat. friendly?
Or what do you guys have? Thanks
RR Official + ElementalX + AKT
or ExperienceOS + Xceed
Pheonix aex is the best so far for me

Freedom OS 2.8, bluspark kernel. wih 4g heavy usage, giving me 4-5hrs SOT constantly. and in wifi/light usage , 7-8hrs SOT always. Loving the current setup.
Pheonix AEX by itself... has a great kernel and easily gotten 9+ SoT in the last two battery cycles. Has all the customization you'll ever need built in and has the best OOS camera port. Just give it a try, it wont disappoint.

VertexOS! Is has Voxpopuli and EAS. It's simple and runs really really smooth... One of the Smoothest roms out there with decent battery life!
Phoenix AEX
Phoenix AEX probably

I'm running the unofficial Pure Nexus ROM with its included Sultan kernel. It's good in my opinion.
Use unofficial Pure Nexus ROM with its included Sultan kernel. It's good ROm, stable ,bat. friendly
Thanks guys. I will try Vertex Now, I have EAX Phoenix, but it's a bit laggy...
I gonna try Pure Nexus when it's stable enough. (I see posts about lags).

Well, reduced small cluster max freq by one step. Rest all as it is. Agressive doze is OFF. Somehow feels that keeping it ON drains more. /Contradicting/
Tried naptime initially, but with and without it, the duration is more or less the same.
I am also looking for a great ROM.
Is official Resurrection Remix the "best"? It has all features of the other ROMs?? Good battery life and stable??
Official kernel?
Or are there better ROMs or kernels and if yes, which are the advantages?
---------- Post added at 11:42 ---------- Previous post was at 11:32 ----------
I personally don't know, why to use a Oxygen OS based ROM? I think, it has no features and not much customization and nothing great? Or am I wrong?
xXx no limits rom with bluspark kernel is a beast. Camera is my priority especially video recording and no other rom could suffice that. Very stable ofcourse.
Rom has inbuilt performance tweaks and is super snappy. Ofcouse I tried plenty other roms especially for camera, sulan's rom phoenix aex rom and many more , they manage to take good photos almost as good as OOS but none of them could match video recording smoothness of OOS especially in 1080p 60fps. Tried and tested a lot. And with my usage I easily get around 6 to 7 hours of sot with excellent performance.

Post it own opinion
so for the usual "this month's" question...i suggest freedom ce and experience os. tho each of them have their own quirk, but it's stable. maybe the issues's with me, but some custom rom really have some daily usage/stability problem like dialer app crashing or alarm not ringing while they list the rom as "bugs free". obviously i have not tried all the roms or done extensive performance testing on them, so this is just my opinion.

I personally don't use OOS since ages because of the terrible android system drain I got back then. Not sure how it is now but I basically fell in love with VertexOS. VertexOS has been the stablest rom I have tried. Even the Testbuilds on the Slack channel are really stable. The dev definitely knows what he is doing and is putting blood sweat and tears into optimizing the rom. if you are looking for a stable minimalistic rom, with great peformance and decent battery life Vertex is the way to go.
You can basically never go wrong with a Sultan rom
I sugest Sultans Nougat build(if you want theming through Substratum use Matssas builds, for me it was just as stable). Other then that AOSPA, although I sugest you wait for the next build since high idle drain is a known issue.
Both Sultan and AOSPA is known for high quality camera by custom rom standard.
Phoenix aex is the best right now. Best performance and battery life without any modifications
Go with ...Phoenix AOSP ?
Yep, Phoenix AES.
Sultanxda lineage OS is working perfectly.
Have tried RR, Phoenix, Freedom and a couple of more.. Loved all of them to be honest.. But felt experience lite was the best of them..
Yup.. Just a personal opinion..
try Paranoid Android, tons of features, great battery life and (ALMOST) bug free and stable, but keep in mind that OxygenOS or OxygenOS based roms have the most stability ...
Using freedom os + bluspark kernel + akt hawkpepper! Moderate use but too much of voice and duo calls! This combo is perfect one
And full day wifi on! Plus when not using wifi, 4G was on!
I've personally been using vertex for a few weeks now with a gapp prop tailored just to my liking for adding in just stuff I want and debloating of things I never use to clear up wasted space and absolutely love the current setup. Minimal, battery friendly, and zero issues with stability.

Hello,
I have a brand new RN5 pro yesterday, and i feel that MIUI is a bit laggy.
I see there are several alternative ROM, i do not how whick one to choose. I hesitate between LineageOS, PixelExperience, AOSiP as they appear to be the purest one, but maybe i am wrong.
Well, for those who have installed an alternative ROM, could you tell me if they are faster, more fluid than the MIUI one ?
What are your return of experience ?
Thanks in advance
All of them are good, flash away and try for yourself like everyone else. I'm tired of seeing a post like this everyday asking about which ROM is fast. They're all good and fast, in the end it all depends on personal preference when it comes to custom features.
I tested all of the roms you mentioned and im happy with AOSiP, i think that is the best, if you want a good performance in games use a kernel editor and change the governor to "performance" i do that only for gaming purposes
Use the p semi gsi with derp
