As I am unfamiliar with rooting android phones. I tried to use sunshine to temproot my phone to see if it would work but failed. I am on software number 3.37.605.29
You need someone with an xtc clip to unlock the bootloader and s-off. Its a special tool used to unlock and s-off the phone no matter what version. I do have one, mabey i could help. But that means you either meet me somewhere by where i live, or mail it to me and be without a phone till it gets mailed back. I live in north west indiana.
Here is is link to others wo may or may not still do it.

I have a T-Mobile HTC One M8 which is bootloader unlocked and rooted with custom recovery. I also have a custom ROM (Viper One) in there. However I couldn't achieve S-OFF (tough luck! ). So my questions is, can I use the phone with other GSM carriers ? I want to start using AT&T service with this phone. Is it possible to use it without S-OFFing ?
Thanks!

I believe so yes, can't recall seeing anything about unlocking it with S-ON. Have you tried the SunShine method to gain S-OFF?
[Android][HTC S-OFF] SunShine for modern HTC devices
Sure it's $25 but going on most responses it seems well worth the few pennies to gain that extra "freedom". Something to consider perhaps...

Thanks BerndM! Appreciate the response.
Turns out I need S-Off to use other carriers. Will probably buy Sunshine's application for S-Off
You only need S-OFF if your phone is SIM-locked but you can use a pay service to remove the SIM-lock. Unless you have a CDMA phone and are trying to use a GSM SIM in it, in which case probably to stop now...

Isn't it better to pay $25 to our devs and get S-OFF instead of paying some corporate guys just to get my SIM lock removed ? Just my thought
Depends if you have to pay or not...
In the UK, not all operators charge to SIM-unlock (that's if the phone even is to begin with, most don't bother these days)
Hello bought a HTC One M8 AT & T on ebay. The device is wonderful, but it came locked.
I did unlock the bootloader with the help of these following tutorials:
http://theunlockr.com/2014/04/19/root-htc-one-m8-all-in-one-toolkit-method-video/
http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-to/unlock-bootloader-root-your-htc-one-m8-0154444/
I believe it was successful. I'm having trouble making the change of S-on to S-off. First tried this tutorial:
http://theunlockr.com/2014/05/07/gain-s-htc-one-m8-video/
But when I use the command "/ data / local / tmp / firewater" nothing happens, just in time to change S-on to S-off.
After this attempt, I used this other tutorial:
http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-...-one-m8-install-custom-firmware-mods-0154461/
Installed via recovery, Flash InsertCoin ROM. The same has been installed. But when I use the method firewater, nothing happens when I use "su" command inside shell. The SuperSU is installed on the device, but when I ask for permissions fastboot adb, does not appear in the application device.
I do not know what else to do, if anyone can help me.
Below the image of the bootloader. I do not know if it's because I bought the device in the USA and brought to Brazil, but it appears that the radio and the OpenDSP are invalid.

Thank you
There's 2 ways to s-off commonly used, firewater... Which doesn't always work. And if not that, then Sunshine, which costs 25 bucks. Well worth it if you ask me.
After s-off... I think you can unlock Sim, though I've never needed to do it yet, and I also can't speak for your device of ours possible.
Perhaps someone will confirm or not. ?

Today I tried to use the method sunshine, but it was not possible because just installing InsertCoin flash that comes with version 4.4.3 of Android. How do I get back to stock rom in order to use the method sunshine?
Thanks
There's a rom you can flash that it apparently will work with.... I think.... I say think.... It's maximus or something like that?
I may be wrong on that. You'd have to search on what rom will work with Sunshine.
Hello fellow TMO brethren....
I just got the M8 maybe a week ago... I was busy and had to wait before I could pull up XDA and start reading about this phone (getting root, etc.). Before this, I unfortunately allowed a few updates (2 maybe?) to install, which I believe will prevent me from using Firewater for S-Off... but no big deal....will get sunshine when I need it. However, though firewater won't work, I had no problem using HTCDev to unlock the bootloader (didn't know of towelroot at the time), flashing TWRP 2.8.0.1, and installing SuperSU....so I am currently rooted with stock Rom...
Further...I have not touched any applications. And although I have unlocked the bootloader using HTCDev, my calculator and flashlight are still available. I have read in this M8 general forum that the flashlight and calculator are deleted when you unlock the bootloader using HTCDev... This did not happen to me. Does anyone know if this is this just a T-Mobile thing? or has this changed for all carriers?
Anyway, I am now getting notice for yet another update...So I might as well install it. As we all know, I need to re-flash the stock recovery to get the OTA. Here is where I am confused. My current firmware is 2.22.531.5. I don't know what firmware I had a week ago when the phone was purchased.
This was the info on the bootloader screen yesterday, immediately prior to unlocking the BL or rooting the phone:
[btw, can someone tell me how to do a info dump from the bootloader?? is it just an option I missed?]
*** LOCKED ***
M8_UL PVT SHIP S-ON

1. My first question is what version of the stock recovery do I use?? On the page that contains the stock recoveries, it only shows these two:
Stock Recovery - 1.12.531.19
Stock Recovery - 1.57.531.7
2. Secondly, and I am really irritated about this.... but I never went and accepted the Google Drive free 65GB promo offered by HTC. When I start google drive it states it cannot determine the user (or something like that). I read elsewhere that this is because I unlocked the bootloader. I will do whatever it takes to get HTC to give me this because I think it is pretty low that they would invalidate the offer to anyone who has unlocked the bootloader pursuant to their website, their instructions, and their so-called "open atitude". Obviously I can re-lock the bootloader, but I do not know if that will matter. Plus... if they say that I requested a token .bin file to unlock, I can say that I changed my mind and decided not too. OR, I can get Sunshine, get s-off, and use the s-off ability to relock the bootloader. Does anyone have any advice on any of this?
3. Any general advice from anyone based on the info above??? (lI don't want to foreclose any other options by upgrading or whatever... ).
Thank you very much in advance!
P
NB: Wanted to mention that last night I was about to use Titanium to freeze and/or uninstall some crap software I didn't want, and to that end, disabled Amazon, Facebook, Facebook for HTC, and Kid Zone (and uninstalled Amazon MP3, which is not a system app). Just an FYI... disabling one (or more) of these apps (maybe Kid Zone?) prevented Wifi calling from functioning correctly...it would not let me call and every in-call received while on wifi calling went straight to VM. I have renabled the above apps to get wifi-calling working again, but also because I want to install this update and figured that disabling/freezing any original stock apps might cause problems. I will look around for a thread on safely deleting apps after I get this udpate...
Try this for getting your drive space.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708571
Its now 100GB so its definitely worth a shot. As for getting back to stock for an update you can always use a RUU since relocking your bootloader will drive space then unlocking it again after will cause a factory reset anyway. Back up everything that isnt already, relock with the instructions from the thread I linked, run a ruu to get back to stock, update the system, then unlock your bootloader again with your unlock code bin file.

OK... that sounds like great info.... But to confirm though... I need S-off to relock bootloader. This is because I am essentially going back to factory default lock (without dealing with HTC at all). And by doing this, and then flashing the RUU (backing up everything first of course), I will be back to square one stock. For one, this will make it tough for HTC to claim I unlocked the bootloader (minimizing potentially any dispute over Google Drive promo). Then I would get any/all outstanding updates. I guess if I need S-off, then I would need to get sunshine, so I could just let that app re-unlock the bootloader. instead of using the .bin file (presuming I need s-off)?
Sorry... just confused as to when and for what specifically I need S-off (as your link emphasizes this).
Thanks a lot!!!!:good:

It looks like you will need S-Off to factory lock the bootloader. S-Off allows you to make changes to otherwise protected areas of the file system. To clarify, I haven't tried this method myself as I haven't had a need to factory relock my device yet. I ran full stock for months before I rooted. As for HTC knowing whether or not you unlocked your bootloader, if you used the HTCDEV method then they have record of you receiving an unlock token from them but if they go into bootloader for any reason and see Locked instead of Relocked they shouldnt give you any trouble I would think. I believe you can also reset it to S-On but again I've never tried and I'm not sure its entirely safe. You'll have to look into that.
Hi All
My name is Phil and I'm new to HTC phones so I apologise in advance.
I wonder if anyone out there can help me, I'm trying to just unbrand my unlocked Vodafone UK HTC One M8 which is currently on KK 4.4.4. What I would like to achieve is an unbranded phone as if I had purchased it unlocked from HTC with the warranty in tact that will accept OTA's so I'll get lollipop.
I understand I will most probably have to unlock the bootloader, root, S-off etc but what I'm a little unsure about is, can I get an official stock rom complete with sense 6 installed on the phone and then lock it all back up for warranty (ie in fastboot it states locked, original software, s-on etc etc)
I have read many threads and watched youtube videos that seem to show that it can be done but I would like to check with you guys before I start.
If this is possible, which method would you recommend as there seems to a few different methods.
Also is Sunshine the only s-off method now?
Again I'm sorry but I've come from a Sony xperia phone which unbranding was really easy to achieve without rooting
Thank you in advance
Phil
I take it you took advantage of the recent deal too. Anyone would be crazy not too at that price.
At the moment it seems that the Vodafone m8s can't be s-off'd so we have to wait for root ninja to release sunshine v3 which will work. It doest seem to far off.
Once you have s-off you can change your CID and flash the generic firmware and Rom. We just have to play the waiting game now.
I think sunshine does reset the flags for you, but I'm not sure on that. Oh and don't s-on again unless you absolutely have to send the phone in for service.
Thanks isx for your reply
I did indeed get it while it was on offer
Any ideas on the lead time of sunshine V3?
I have lollipop on my Galaxy S5 and keen to get on the HTC too
Cheers for your help
Hi folks,
I have just bought a new UK HTC One M8 on Vodafone after having problems with my Canadian HTC One which didn't have the compatible LTE frequency for UK.
Anyhow.. I understand to debrand I need to S-OFF first, change CID to HTC__001 and then flash a stock firmware.
Just need some help with the following:
Do I need to do something to the MID? (if so, what should it be for stock UK unlocked/unbranded version?)
Can the debrand be done without rooting the device as Firewater requires the phone to be rooted (if no, is it a temp root? so I can use the bank apps etc)
Is there a method to S-OFF without root?
What's the best firmware to flash so I can get the future OTA?
Thanks in advance.
Regards

1) Shouldn't have to change MID. The MID should be 0P6B1000 which I think the Vodafone UK phone already is, seeing as it's European.
2) You'll probably need root to get Sunshine S-OFF to work***
3) Firewater method doesn't work anymore period. You'll have to use Sunshine it's $25 but it'll get the job done(Hopefully your device is supported then, as Sunshine doesn't work for some devices) and it's the only way to get S-OFF. I think there is a temp root available for it... check at thread. SunShine for modern Motorola & HTC devices
4) Of course the WWE International Firmware x.xx.401.x. As long as you run with the 401, any Asian WWE or 1540(Developer Edition, needs change of MID) you'll stay up to date directly through HTC.

Cheers mate, this is very useful.
I will read up on Sunshine and go from there.. My banks app wont work on a rooted phone therefore I wasn't keen to root the phone.
I have downloaded 1.54.401.5-Firmware (Thanks to SoLdieR9312) is it the right one? thinking if I flash this rom and the OTA brings it up to date.
How about the messages on HBOOT, will it say tampered. I understand there are fixes here but want to make sure whether root is required again to check apply the fix.

Yeah you'll need root access to reset the flags, it gets done through the shell and will need root privileges.
[how to] lock/unlock your bootloader without htcdev(s-off required) To make the bootloader show "Locked" instead of "Relocked" if you lock it again. Needs root.
[how to] remove your "tampered" banner Will make Software status "Official" and not "Modified". Needs root.
Yeah you can use any 401 firmware you like. Going to an earlier version is a nice way to test if the OTAs are working like it should.
Banking app ... Probably flippin' Barclays again
Fantastic mate.. really appreciate your help..
will keep posted..
Sunshine payment is via PayPal so get the phone going first and then after you've debranded the phone you can set it up again unrooted
