Want/need to replace battery in M8. Purchasing suggestions (quality/M9)? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have a spare M8 that has a broken rear camera. My main M8 could use a new battery, and I'm pretty sure the spare one can too.
I've decided to take the plunge and crack open the spare M8 that just sits in a box and try my hand at replacing the battery and the camera module. If all goes well I think I'll replace the battery in my main M8 as well.
I was hoping someone might recommend a good seller/brand for replacement batteries. I'm concerned about OEM batteries because:
a) How am I to know it is genuine OEM?
b) If it is OEM, it has probably been sitting around for 3+ years
I also heard you can replace the M8 battery with the M9 and thought if it is safe to do so that it might be better to get an M9 battery as they are probably newer?
Has anyone done a replacement recently and recommend a particular one to go with that will get me back to original battery life?
thanks.

Upgrading to G3 - worth?

There's no doubt that this phone is much better than my HTC ONE M7, in every way possible. There are a couple of other concerns I have despite the fact that it is dirt cheap at the moment. I can literally buy 2 G3 for the same price as galaxy s6.
Hardware buttons at the back - annoying? steep learning curve?
Procedure to root + flashing: My htc ONE M7 needs to be bootloader unlocked and S-OFF (a pain in the ***)
Battery life due to 2k HD resolution?
Other general comments?
i had all Samsung before getting the G3, and i was worried about the power button on the back being funky as well, but then you find out in a day or 2 that EVERY phone should have the power button where the G3 has theirs. Its the best . and very comfortable to use. I love it and wonder how i used side power buttons for so long now.
Rooting& flashing roms is super easy. No need to worry about that.
Ive had an extended battery for almost a year now so i really don't remember how the stock battery was, but ive seen people with 5 hours screen time on with the proper kernel and undervoltage settings. I can tell you thought, if you dont mind a small hump on the back plate and go with a Hyperion 6000mAh battery you can be on the thing alllllllll day and not need a charge, im a pretty heavy user and have never needed a charger by the end of day with the extended battery. I think my high score for on screen time was 9 hours.
I see. For flashing, do you need to unlock bootloader etc through the official site or is it simply done and reverted back easily to stock?
I don't think i'll be buying a 6000mAh battery pack any time soon as that would just add extra weight that i'll mind.
Any other tip before i head out today to get it? Is it worth getting it now? or should i add money and get g4

[Q] What battery should I choose for replacement?

Hi, past half year I had serious problems with my battery, it gets hot pretty quick, instant shutdown at 40%, and quick discharge. It's been a few days since I got rid of most problems, (except the overheating, which i think was the source of all my problems on this phone's battery), and now my battery seems like it got my back cover bend and shattered. Since I had enough of this battery crap and decided to order an replacement and want an opinion of what make I should choose.
Bluestar: http://www.amazon.de/BlueStar-Handy...903 battery&qid=1463062731&ref_=sr_1_7&sr=8-7
Akku-king: http://www.amazon.de/Akku-King-komp...903 battery&qid=1463062731&ref_=sr_1_3&sr=8-3
or should I go with an original one?
If anyone tried either bluestar or akku-king I would appreciate the opinion, as it would make my choice easier. Right now I am thinking about the stock one, but afraid that the same problem might come back after some time.
P.S. I am not ready to leave this phone for newer models, cause it's working fine apart from the battery which is the only trouble maker.
I just ordered new battery from aliexpress. Works like a charm.

I went for a replacement stock/original battery and it's working fine. Yes it might fail again (though I am being more careful about charging patterns this time) but by then I'll probably want to buy a new phone anyway.

Exceptionally bad battery life.

Now, I know...the M9 has ALWAYS had a reputation for being bad on batteries.
I also know, that Facebook and Messenger are two nasty apps that eat batteries alive.
Saying all of that up front, the battery life on my M9 has very suddenly become VERY bad (even with Facebook and Messenger not installed). I thought it might have been a battery calibration issue, but trying a calibration program out seems to yield no improvement (even in the accuracy of the battery indicator).
So, now, if I'm lucky, I'll get about 2.5hrs of battery life even if the phone is in airplane mode indoors. My battery will get to about 65% and then the phone will shut off. When I try to start the phone, I'll get a 0% indicator sometimes, but after plugging it into the charger, I'll then see about 65% battery instantly.
Is there anything I can do or should I throw in the towel and upgrade to an HTC 10? Things are to the point I can't use the thing when its plugged into the charger!
I was using the last nightly build of CM on the thing for months before it got THIS bad. I thought maybe keeping it plugged into the charger too much was the problem, but wiping the dalvik cache after fully charging might help too... no change. I tired flashing Lineage and the battery life is the roughly the same.
Should I try flashing back to stock or try a firmware upgrade or somekind? I honestly have no clue what to do with this thing.
I honestly believe it's a hardware issue. I've tried most anything and I'm there too! I was just going to buy a lightly used m9, flash my current ROM onto it, and wait for the Pixel 2 (the HTC is looking like a disappointment).
My brother had a similar issue with his M8. Sprint refused to acknowledge any kind of hardware issue and insisted that he must have too many apps running, even after a factory reset. He eventually switched to an HTC 10.
I currently have my HTC 10 in for warranty so I have to us my M9 in the meantime. I tried upgrading to a nougat rom only to get terrible battery life. I switched to the santod stock debloated marshmallow and it lasts the day and a couple of hours. I read on the thread that there are no nougat radios for the M9 which causes the battery drain.
I figured it out. It was the battery all along. Replaced the battery, and the phone is getting the best battery life it has ever gotten.

Did you replace it yourself? Was it that hard? My battery will randomly die at 23% sometimes. Debating on replacing it. Can't afford a pixel at the moment.

Yes, I replaced it myself, and your situation sounds VERY similar to mine. It was one of the trickiest operations I have ever done on a phone by far, but the M9 has a few things that make it much easier to do then the M8 for sure (I was dreading having to replace a USB port on my old M8). I replaced the USB port for my M9 while I was in there and also did the thermal mod to help cool the CPU down. I have a very steady hand and some experience doing these types of things, but am by no means a professional.
I talk about my experiences doing all three of these operations here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72235621&postcount=49
Only additional note I have is, that the Amazon seller I bought my battery from is now out of stock. A friend of mine who just bought a M9 is ordering a new battery for his, so I can update you with that experience soon. As some people seem to be getting old batteries or batteries that aren't holding a charge even from the vendor I bought mine from. I almost wonder if some scumbags are returning batteries to Amazon saying they didn't use them, but are actually sending back their old batteries!
I did notice while looking for new battery replacements on Amazon the other night, that there does appear to be generic non-OEM replacement options on the market now, where I did not find those at the time I did my replacement. My friend is getting his battery off ebay from a Hong Kong seller, so it will likely be a few weeks before we have it in hand.
I also used this video on youtube as reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYm-2dUW03M I stopped and did the USB board replacement before most of the steps (that is actually quite easy to do by itself). You can watch it to get a REALLY good idea of what you'll have to deal with. I had the Verizon version of the M9 to deal with, so I only had one antenna wire instead of two (most be a different antenna in the VZW version of the phone), and getting the CNC connections back together was harder then ANY of the ribbon cables shown. I had to remove my contact lenses and look at the motherboard really close to see it clearly.
@TheXev Thanks for all of the info. I heard that conducting the battery swap was notoriously tricky. I ended up just buying a m9 for cheap and porting everything over to it... when this battery inevitable dies in 6 months I may give the self-replacement a go (or move on to a Pixel or something).

Just finished replacing my battery this morning. Took me about 45 minutes. I followed this video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDvBvrWN73s&t=180s .... I just hope this will delay me buying a pixel. Expensive!
Bought this one here. I doubt it is OEM but we will see how battery life last on this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-OE...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

Glad it worked out for ya.. but on a stranger note... WTF IS UP WITH THAT VIDEO!? lol its EXACTLY the same as mine, only with a different logo, the font was changed from blue to red.... and the music is different but it is otherwise EXACTLY THE SAME. lol
I'm switching tabs between these videos at different parts, and its just changing colors... I think your video is from the original author, I'm going to let him know about this other channel ripping off their work.
My phone has same battery behavior.
Anyone in Los Angeles area want to swap out my battery for me???
Any reputable phone service places anyone can recommend?
I really don't think I should try to do this myself.

Disassembling and repairing HTC HTV31 Butterfly 3

Heey everyone,
My phone has some serious problems. I'm talking about percentage not showing correctly, because of that the phone will go off at random. As the percentage that is shown (for example 43%) is actually a lot less (it's actually 0%). And when I try to turn it on, the phone must be charging, otherwise the chance of data getting deleted is almost 100% (I think around 85%). And with the data deletion problem comes the storage problem, because the data is probably still on there but not accessible by android or something and therefore my phone can't install updates now(the apps are all stock) even though they were on there the moment the phone shut off.
I hope you guys still understand the situation, but now my actual question
Because these problems are all the cause of a faulty battery, I want to replace the battery with a new one.
I couldn't find replacements for our butterfly 3 phone, but there are ones for the M8, M9 and M9+.
These batteries look very similar and I actually think they are the exact same size and they do have the same connector.
Since so many things are similar between the M9/M9+ and our Butterfly 3, I thought those batteries also fit our phone.
But since taking the phone apart is not easy and of course risky, I would like to ask if anyone here has taken apart a HTC (HTV31) Butterfly 3 before.
If so, could that someone please tell me how this phone can be disassembled and maybe even tell me what the size and the connector of the battery are.
I could of course just buy a new phone, but this phone is the only one on the market(!!!) that fits all my needs. And replacing the battery is cheaper than buying a new one. As I got lucky somehow that I didn't have to pay any taxes or anything when I bought it around 1.5 years ago. And the prices on ebay are definitely higher than back then.
If any of you has some other ideas to solve my problem or has a better phone with almost the same specs, then place say so
PS. If it's possible to use the battery of the M9, then I will try to put a larger capacity battery in it, as this capacity is a bit low.
you can go to taobao.com, look for the battery.

Thank you!
The website with the tutorial doesn't load unfortunately, but as I almost bought the battery for the M9, I am happy I now know they aren't the same.
Thanks again.
EDIT: Turns out that the images don't load. Do the images load for someone here? Would very much appreciate it if someone could upload the images somewhere.
I have the exact same problem with my htc butterfly 3
I am looking for a fix of the exact same problems for a long time. Havent found one. If u found a fix plz do let me know

Any battery replacement service?

My HTC 10 is going to be 2 years old. And probably see a degradation soon on battery performance. Since Apple has nation-wide local stores to offer $29 battery replacement to iPhones, I am wondering is there any certified battery replacement for HTC? I know BestBuy is doing battery replacement for Samsung phones, but you know HTC is NOT so mainstream as Samsung, is there any place I can have HTC 10 battery replaced? I am pretty sure HTC official support is going to be expensive on this.... wouldn't consider them anyway.
The DIY video kinda scares me away, as I tried to open a few phones several years ago, and there were dirts leaked into screen after I assembled the phone back. So if DIY is my last resort, I wouldn't bother replacing the battery... May consider buying a iPhone or Samsung due to their minimum maintenance efforts.

Com'on.. Not in that country.. If shipping to Slovakia is the only way, I'd risk dissembling the phone by myself.

Not sure where you are located, but you might give these guys a try:

I realize the HTC 10 isn't listed but it might be worth contacting them and see if they can help you with your issue.

tried to help... this is what you get when you ask for a repair service and exlude any information about your location... ?
OP:
- Contact the closest HTC you find, maybe you have to ship it to another country, but that is the easiest it will get.
- DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF. I bought an OEM battery for my M7 from a "trusted seller". It's a big shop, and really, people trust them. Took me 2 days to disassemble the phone (obviously with breaks and work and all), it's extremely tedious and cumbersome. Then I put it together, but no charge. Turns out, the new battery was defective out of the box. Also, the repair process is so destructive, I do not think you can take the phone apart 2-3 times. Maybe once, twice if you are extremely careful. But it is almost beyond human - to be so careful and cautious. You have to look out for so many small cables, ribbons. Point is, if HTC messes up, they fix it / give you a new phone, whatever. If you mess up, bye-bye phone.
I called a local UBreakIFix shop, and they said that, since the screen must be removed and it's so thin, to replace the battery on the HTC 10, they would have to charge me for replacing the screen plus battery. About $130 for parts and labor.

Because they're a business, they're all about doing jobs quickly. The longer it takes, the more it costs them to complete it. As such, they can't be bothered with educating themselves on how to do the HTC 10 properly. There is a technique and it takes time. If it wasn't possible, nobody would be doing it with any reported success. The main thing is heating up the phone enough to soften the adhesive, and being gentle enough not to disturb the ribbon cable for the screen.
HTC really boned it on the HTC 10. If there was no battery issue, it would be a strong competitor for the Google Pixel. But they cut corners to keep manufacturing costs low, and sacrificed serviceablility. Coupling that with the common battery problem, they're left with frustrated customers who are destined to abandon the brand. It's a real shame because without the battery issue, the HTC 10 is pretty much about as good as the Google Pixel. I showed mine to a friend with the Pixel and we did a compare. Aside from the Pixel being a little lighter, the screen intensity of the HTC 10 was better and the case feels more solid.
yea HTC won't work on the 10 anymore.. EOL (in USA anyway) and UK won't take it
anyone willing to change my battery?
I will pay, PM me please.
on eBay, you can find brand new HTC 10 for about $110 and brand new HTC U11 for about $170. If your cost of repair is around $100, it would make more sense to purchase a brand new HTC 10 or a brand new HTC U11.

I agree. I do..
htc u11 doesnt work fully on verizon AFAIK, and I love the 10 anyway.
but for the new htc 10, my issue is that with ebay, some wont take returns, and lithium batteries degrade. new doesn't mean you're getting a new battery.
un-used, yes if new.
but if no returns, and it only has like 70% capacity, I'm where I am now and then stuck with 2 10s
but yes the ONLY place i could find was:
www.ubreakifix.com
they quoted me at $99 for the battery repair, and it includes:
new battery
new screen (if they break it)
new whatever if they break it
(meaning they cover everything for the $99)
and 90 day warranty
soooo. idk
theres literally like no phone im interested in.
and here in the us, at least what ive found is no one will touch it because they can't guarntee the screen not breaking, and once that happens, as you said, gets higher than phone is "worth"

I see that makes some sense. I am not familiar with the battery degradation of phones that haven't been used in 3 years, but it does sound like a brand new battery would be a good way to go to get maximum battery life. I also wish there was an easy way to replace the battery so that I wouldn't have to go through the route of looking for a new phone. I'm currently planning to get a new HTC U11 from eBay, but was certainly considering another HTC 10 before I discovered how cheap the U11 is from certain sellers.

Another thing I forgot about was root, duh lol.
Unlocked model can unlock bootloader, but I'm not sure about s-off app is still available for it. I'd pay the $25 no problem, but would need to refresh myself ifits an option.
I know there's Java cards and xtc clip but that's another investment really, would maybe need to fund someone that already has one
