Hi people!
2 weeks ago i found a lglockscreensettings_2.apk modified that made possible to use knock code with only 3 taps (or more). Now i reseted the phone and can't find it again . I already searched this thread by the whole internet and no results.
So if anyone is using this apk, I would be very grateful to have it again . Thanks anyway.
(Yeah, i know, such poor english)

I'm not here to post that apk you want, came to tell this; I suppose knock code is coded on kernel, which means it's controlled by kernel. So I don't think it can be edited by something else than kernel. So I say, there's no point on editing the apk.

I just got my TP2 two days ago and I love it!
I need to change the weather to find my city but unfortunately none of the hacks on here work for me.
I looked in the windows folder to find certain file but it wasn't there.
Maybe it has to do with me being on the official HTC 6.5 update??
I would prefer to edit a file and not install another application.
Any help is appreciated.

if u got windows mobile 6.5 with TF3D, u should just be able to click on the weather tab. press menu. and a slew of options appear. one of them being to add a new location or city. i think u can have like 7 or 8 different cities set up.
im not sure where ur from but i didnt need any hack to pull up my city...
My city wasn't listed
oh i see, u need some kind of wrk around. someone should chime in soon enough on that matter. hol on...i juss thought of somethin....u need a way to go into the system registry or that widget registry.....find out how the determine the different cites used(like by zipcodes or some ([email protected]). then once u do, put in ur cities info, in that place.........................i thinkkkkkkk...lmfao

If that idea doesn't work, search for a cab. There are some out there that will add different cities to your list, I used them on previous ROM's to try to fix a My Location issue I had. It didn't work for my issue with My Location, but I can definitely say that it opened up different cities that were not previously available.
Hope THAT helps.
I got it working. I used an app from the forums. It added my city.

You should tell everyone what you used, to assist others.
Also, you said in your OP that you tried some of the "hacks", and they didn't work. You should have said what those were, it would have helped us help you. Post was too vague, so I didn't bother responding.
I don't know what he used, but I use the Conflipper weather database v5. Downside is that it takes FOREVER for it to parse the huge database to find a city as you type the name.

I'm new.
Anyway, I used the JVH3 Weather Editor. Worked perfectly.
I would post a link but the forum wouldn't let me.

No, you haven't posted enough comments, but you could still copy the address into the text here. That would work.
Please, do that and also mention the names of the "hacks" that you tried that didn't work. That would help others in the future with this issue.

Hey everybody,
I recently bought the galaxy nexus because I wanted to start getting into Rom Development.
I can programm Java and also programmed some simple apps..
But what I really wanted to do is to modify a Rom.
Can anybody tell me where to start? I read guides on how to compile from source and so on, but I don't know if that's what I need.
I want to add things like Notification bar quick settings to the rom.. Are there tutorials on how to develop these things?
Every help is appreciated, maybe you've got some great links for me, thanks!

start with decompiling apks (SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk for example) , if u've wrote android apps before (and u said u did), then it shouldn't be that hard to look into the .xml and .jar files. when u finish, compile the .apk back. if u've worked with Eclipse then u probably know the android structure.
Edit: Here is an example of a "ROM modification" - just posting it to give u an example..
Well first thing is first. You need to have the bare basics of Android thoroughly understood obviously. Often overlooked as a first step in this process, just learning about(different than knowing about)the Android Open Source Project first will give you a specific sense of direction, purpose, as well as an identity in the community..
So again- I don't just mean knowing about it- I mean knowing exactlyhow the whole project is structured. Read about all the different types of contributions you/anyone can make to the Android ecosystem. Are you an aesthetics kind of person who would excel at UI designs for apps or whatever; Are you a person who has a good eye for problem solving? Maybe you should be scouring source code, trying to fix little-noticed "bugs" that "bug" the hell out of you. Once you know what you want to do, make sure you find out exactly how much Google provides for you, and what your own roles/responsibilities would be in the whole scheme of things.) This should give you a good idea of where you might fit in (with your current skill-set)and hopefully, it gives you some inspiration about the direction you might want to take it in the future.
Once you do this and "find your calling", post back here, and I'm sure that others qualified in that field will be more than happy to share how they got started.
There is no substitute to just jumping in and trying things though. Everybody makes their own journey differently, so do what comes naturally, and you can't go wrong.

Wow thank you every body for these great comments! I think I'll compile a Rom from source first and look through all the files..
Decompiling apks looks interesting too.
Thanks for the fast responses & links, you're awesome!
Okay so I've got another question..
One thing I always liked on some custom roms was the lockscreen flashlight..
If I would hold power for 3 seconds, the flashlight would turn on until I let go the power button.
I decompiled the framework-res.apk but didn't find anything there, just .xml files.
Where are the files where I can actually code / programm something for the lockscreen?
Try android.policy.jar
Usually the jar files contain the code, xml are for visual stuff.
But my question is, are u sure it is a lockscreen feature? (I mean the torch option) . Tbh this is the first time i hear of such a mod and i've been using android devices for over 2 yrs

Let me apologize right off the bat if this has been covered before. I googled this everyway I could think of and turned up squat.
Ok, I just finished compiling my first rom a couple days ago and I have a question.
Can anyone point me in the direction of how to add my rom name to the menus within settings?
I have flashed what seems like a hundred roms since starting with my Huawei u8800 all the way to my Note and Note II.
So, I decided to build my own so I can get all the features I love from all the different renditions I've came across.
I have seen many with the rom name within settings and such but I cannot figure out what I need to change to reflect my rom name.
If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!
Build.prop
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Sorry, I guess I should have been more specific. I wanted to change the title of certain menu items, like (and this is only an example): Wireless and Networks or, Personal or, Accounts, etc.
The build.prop only lets you edit certain aspects within the About Phone page (i.e. name of rom, build date, developer id, etc.).
I found what I was looking for so, I figured I'd post it in case someone else was trying to do the same thing.
This is BEFORE you compile. Afterword, this file winds up in the settings.apk and needs to be edited by unpacking, making the changes you want, then repackaging, and of course resigning.
Either way should give you the desired effect. However, I opt to make these changes before the build process takes place.
Anyway, these files are located in: packages/apps/settings/res/values/strings.xml
There are alot of these strings.xml files in the values folder however, the only one you need to edit is the first one (if your rom is diplaying english that is) as the rest are the same thing only in a different language. Hope this helps someone. Drove me nuts till I found it!

Open the dialer and enter the code ... that will bring you into an app ... but then what to do further exactly I don't know ;-)

Seeing that this user has only posted 12 messages, I'm guessing this was among their first 10. Last I remember, XDA requires 10 messages to be posted by a user in order to get some kind of further permissions, although I don't remember what, although that was back on the old forum software. These days there are also achievements to get "XP" and "levels", and that might've been one.
Long story medium, the user likely posted nearly useless information to get their post-count up to 10. As his only useful comment says in the OP "no thanks". I'm not even downloading something that I don't know what I'm expecting, much less looking in the zip or doing anything else, and some of the settings accessible via the dialer code are likely dangerous unless you know exactly what you're doing, so without actual instructions detailing what the code has to do with the title of the thread, I wouldn't bother.
I'm tempted to report the thread. Normally I wouldn't bother as this kind of thread from new users is a dime a dozen but it's pretty blatantly a misleading thread title without more information, and with no description of what the file is supposed to be, and the only words in the OP being "no thanks" just screams "what the bloody hell" to me.

I guessed it was fake, however, the man was deluded to the end, I also advise not to trust this. I was surprised that this has been hanging around for so long.

Probably the author cannot write a tutorial in English, so if someone could help, it would be very cool. It might work after all
I have looked into the file and it's generic code to enable VOLTE ( kind of a fix ) nothing suspicious in the file. Lol some of the xmls in the zip are from Samsung's phone. If you don't know what to or how to enable VOLTE. Don't download the app. Although Pixel 6 and Pro supports VOLTE out of the box. In my instance I have enabled E-Sim and can see option for calls over WIFI which worked just fine. The OP has just copied files from other thread and posted here. Makes no sense. Btw username checks out You can cross reference the settings posted in xmls's to your phone.

i'm sorry my english is not good.
I tried to change a setting ... then reboot ... but the change gets undone ... I guess that's sorta normal as the underlying XML files are in read only storage (guessing). So this is probably un-usable to make permanent changes.
