Palm messaging works on Dash

Hello all,
Wanted to share that I was able to install the cab file taken from the palm messing that was found in the MDA section of xda-developers.com forum, can't find the thread now sorry!!!!!! But I was able to install and get the program to send text messages out, but it will not thread because in the registry couldn't I couldn't change the sms key to sms.old
In the Dash registry it was a lil different than the MDA, if anyone could help would be greatly appreciated. I know it's simple just not sure, still neebe but willing to learn and try!!!!!!!!

Yes..someone please get this to work. As i'm sure we are all coming from MDA or similar devices. I was one of the lucky ones to get the threaded sms app from Palm working on my device. It's definitely nice. Don't get me wrong the 2 sms threader apps that are available now: sms threader & TXTMAN are nice..but they have some big tradeoffs that didn't occur on the Palm version.

umm..wow..it really does work. I did the normal instructions from the "How-To"... no notification sounds for it though. Im sure a little registry hacking could fix that. Everything threads hmm..testing mms..well i actually i cannot test..just realized I can't even navigate anymore lol. Pressing the back key closes the program. ARGHH! you can get around the smiley's and Mytext just buy bringing up the option but other than that it looks like a dead end. Any suggestions?

I plan on playing around some more in the registry to see what i can get to work!!!!!!! I post more after some other tweaks.

I have 1.5 for smartphone but cant get it to work either, crashes upon running, I bound bengalboys site but cant find the install guidelines, anyone have the link?

I was using the cab file for the ppc and I haven't been able to get it work like it was working on the MDA. Tried all kinds things in the registry, but nothing seemed to work.
Then I finally got the thread to work but all together lost MMS, As for your situation did you make the registry tweaks to sms and mms1 and change them to .old? Not to familiar with 1.5 and assuming it may have to have the same setup. If I find anything I will let you know.
For now I have taken it off and it required for me to reset the phone and start all over. So once again I will be working on the aforementioned issues.

I didnt do the registry entries, I wasnt able to find them on BB's site.
The version I have is branded as "SmartPhone" vs the PPC version which I also have.
I think it is for the older processor type maybe?

ok, found the info on BB's site and made the registry changes as well as the app unlock.
VC still refuses to run on my Dash, all I get is "VoiceCommand has encountered a problem, restart voice command"
Noticed that voice comand also completely breaks the built in voice dialing

I was wondering the same thing as Pudge. It may not look exactly like you've mapped it out in your head...but it looks pretty darn good to me. A .cab would be great, Organic.

Hey OrganicM, It looks sick but if i could suggest something, then it would be the title, instead of making the "temperature" the title, why not make it My Weather or something along those lines and underneath it - you could make a line for the temperature, upto u - otherwise it looks amazing - Keep up the good work and post a .cab when ur done

I know, that's what I wanted to do initially, but this damn TestUIPlugin, will NOT let me do two lines of text!! Only thing I could do, is append the current temperature at the end of the forecast blurb... But it wouldn't really make it stand out.

Nice job you done with this app.
I took a look at your cab _setup.xml and I was wondering what needs to be changed to the Chome_320x240.cpr for the app to work, since I prefer my chubby panels and its icons and overall layout (just a matter of taste, you know).
Perhaps you could post a little step by step guide for the ones like me who want to implement it by hand, with the needed files in a single compressed file (zip, rar, your choice really, I've already got them from the cab ).

If I'm not mistaken, I thought he intended to post the .cab for the "chubby panels" soon anyway. I am on the same page with you, Cassiano. I like my plump panels, but I'd like to install Organic's .cab too. I don't necessarily wanna change anything in my homescreen layout--aside from including the new weather panel.

Is anyone else have trouble updating the city? I'm trying to get Seattle on here, but it won't find it by name, and if using the zip is keeps showing sunny Las Vagas... That sucks, mainly 'cause it nice there and not here... Thanks.

This thing is awesome. Just what I needed. However, is there a way to remove the photo and media pannel? I tried to edit the XML file but it doesn't change. Any ideas?

Just set the plugins as "disabled" right in the registry.
Updated first post again, this time I added a "last updated" time in the top right corner. This gets updated everytime the weather script runs, so you have an idea how recent the info is.

Alright...for some reason it won't allow my city to be displayed when setting up Weather Watcher. It'll take me to a blank IE screen. I made the change to my city in 'Options', like instructed. Then tried to open 'Update Weather'. It would take me back to the blank IE screen. On the homescreen--the weather sliding panel is blank and just has a sun in it. Is there something I'm not doing?

Are you sure you're spelling it correctly ? Mine finds it right away.

Dunno why but it stopped working suddenly. Between one screenshot and the next something happened now it just says "Screenshot.raw file not found" and doesnt take the screenshot. I use the timer method. Any ideas?

try to see if it still has super user rights

try to post in the screenshot thread so that the person that wrote the app can see that there was a random problem

The app is bad,did you install a theme because this has happened to me a bunch of times,reinstalling the app wont work you need to install what ever JF build your using and it will work just fine.
If you did install a theme which theme is it?

Since the Screenshot App refused to work for me (>_>) I had to find a different way to do it which many of you probably already know about and is the way all those websites obtained screenshots of the G1 before release.
You can do it via a tool in the SDK called DDMS. You need to have the JDK installed first! You need to have your G1 plugged in via USB (but not mounted). Enable Debugging in the Settings > Applications menu and then you can open up DDMS. Once it starts select your device from the menu on the left (yours should be the only one and you really dont have to select anything. Then simply press CTRL+S and your screenshot is taken. A new window will open asking you to save, cancel, etc. It saves it in .png format in a location of your choice.
Just thought I would share.
Also, worth mentioning. The site I got this information from suddests having a IDE installed but I didnt and it worked just fine. Dont ask me what an IDE is cuz I dont know >_>

It's not that it's forbidden, but if someone uses message boards, it is assumed that one knows how to use the search function. It's just like on a job, if you are asked the same question over and over and over and it's something that it's documented already, that would annoy you, right? That is all.

I didn't actually ask a question. I just posted up what I found. And I am very well versed in searching. I found what I was looking for didn't I? But I couldn't find any results for it in XDA of all those I looked through. Anywho, don't want to argue or waste space posting in this so again, sry if this annoys anyone, not my intention. TouchFLO 3D Weather Issue

Hi folks. I don't know what to do here. I have a brand new HTC Touch Pro2 (HTC Rhodium), as you probably know that this device offers TouchFLO 3D. TouchFLO has a weather gadget built in it. When I go ahead and tell it to find my CITY, it doesn't find it. I give it my ZIP code, it doesn't find it, I give it a nearby ZIP code it doesn't find that one also, nearby city is not found as well. My zip is 18966, but in regards to weather forecast we use nearby ZIP code. My zip code belongs to two towns and the town that usually comes up for my ZIP is a bit far from me. So we always use nearby city's ZIP code. But this app doesn't find any of them. My zip is 18966, but for this purpose we always use 18954. This city is 5 minutes away, rather then using my real zip code 18966 that is also shared with a town that is 25 minutes away.
So what can I do to maybe input more zip codes to find? AccuWeather.com - finds all of the zip codes mentioned. What should I do??

You can only add cities which are already listed. But you can add any city that is listed in AccuWeather, using the editor in the thread below:

Thank You. But as I understand this is a separate application. So I will have that on my TouchFLO and then this one that I will install would be just an application? I don't really want to have another application. It won't be on my TODAY's screen. I would need to run it. Unless I misunderstand this app. Is this going to replace the one I have??

Great, now I'm freak'in toasted. I tried to follow the directions in the linked instructions and now I have no weather at all andit crashes the touchflow on my TP2.
I am on the original rom.
Any suggestions please?

No, it replaces the original city/zip database with a much larger one, and the touchflo weather tab just uses the new database.

If so, than I need to understand this bit batter. If in future, after I do this, if I would need to do a hard reset; this won't affect it, right? If I do this, this will be permanently??

Help with your problem
If you don't mind doing a hard reset, then I would sugest that. You were given good info. go to the previous link. What you have to do is this. Have a storage card that you can download software to. keep a folder for the software that you have tried and want to reinstall if you have to do another hardreset. What you have to do is FIRST install MICROSOFT .NET CF 3.5 after that, then you can install CONFLIPPER NORTHAMERICA WEATHER v.5 After you do these two steps, then you can go to the WEATHER TAB and select to add a city. It will take a little while to get things going, but just be patient. I have it installed on my phone. I GOOGLED your zip. SOUTHHAMPTON,PA I then went to my weather tab and selected your city and it came up. As of 09:43 AM on Jan. 7,2010 the weather in your town was SUNNY 32% with a High of 37% and a Low of 26% for today. It works. Trust what you are being told. we all here were nubes at one time or another. We have tweaked and hacked our Smartphones. We share with everyone, so we can get help when we need it. This is just one issue. You will run into more and you will most likely get the answers that you need by keeping up with the forums. Try another browser called SKYFIRE. It's great. It is the browser that I have used almost since the day I got my TP2. Hope this also helps. Pay it foward!

strange as I live in Holland PA also. Yeah 18966 comes up as Southampton, but that is only a couple miles away. It should all be good.(Weather wont be that different!)
Also if your on the 6.5 ROM the my location function usually goes all the way to my development by name!

Not for me!! I need to find 18954 not 18966 (Richboro is closer to Holland/Northampton Township than Southampton)
But, it doesn’t find any of them. I turned it off, and I use regular Home Screen. Besides Regular Home screen also tells you what day of the week it is, TouchFLO 3D doesn't do it. I’ll be glad to try to update from my 6.1 to 6.5 though.

htc clock widget

ok so im trying to figure out how to edit the htc clock widget to open a different clock like desk clock. can this be done?

def's uncommon rom is the only one that i know of that does it. good luck getting him to tell you how. def is one of my favorite dev, i'm not calling him out. all the dev keep there findings to them selves really.
question... how come people don't share there tweeks and hacks anymore?
i remember full threads on reg edits, tweeks, and hacks, that people would share with the world. I actually had threads where i would take requests, and cab them up for people to be able to install easily.
big difference between the WM day to the current droid days.

That is a very ****-headed thing to say. I am MORE than willing to help anyone out with reproducing ANY of my mods. I keep nothing secret, and I literally JUST replied to the OP's PM, just before reading your completely asinine comment. My PM box is FULL of questions AND answers with guidance on duplicating mods. Truth be told, I do not POST these modifications and how-to in their own threads for one reason only. I do not have the time to support them.

Def, I was not trying to be a **** head and don't see that my post directed anything negative towards you. I was iust stating that a few years ago, members in the Windows mobile forums shared everything. Infact, there were http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/windows-mobile-hacks-tweaks/ forums just for regedits and hacks. I don't find that on the 2010 Android forums.
I didnt mention the guy who posted a zip file that was able to put the 6 bar signal meter in the task bar. To me that said the Android developers didn't want the secret out of the bag. It's not just you. I have ran quite a few roms and really liked certain parts, but didn't keep it for the fact that I didn't like other parts. I have searched for ways to get just the good hacks and tweeks, but there just not there.

here is a couple thing i would like to add to my roms, but cant find information on them. correct me if i'm wrong, but people just dont share this stuff.
1. 6 bar signal
2. htc clock widget launching vanilla clock
3. app drawer 5 icons wide,
4. battery percentage in battery icon
yes, def's roms have all of these. that is why i run his rom. at least until he bans me from his roms due to this thread.

Well I would like to say he got me started and I found where the attribute is for opening world clock and I have changed it to deskclock but I think I'm doing something wrong with the apk tool because when I push it to the phone and launch it still opens world clock but in the files its self it says deskclock. I wish I knew more about the Android language but sadly I don't and I'm going to keep trying.

i am am really glad to see people like def who is trying to help others instead of just posting there roms.
I am 38 years old, married with 4 kids. i have been on the forums for a long time and know what and how they work. i was not trying to start anything, i love helping people and learning. that is why i like the forums.
i have made 2 apps for windows mobile and never thought of charging for them. one of the apps had over 20,000 downloads. my favorite thing to do was help people learn to make there own.
back on topic....
i would really like to have a zip to flash this htc clock mod. it is one of my favorite parts of def's uncommon rom. i dont have the time anymore to learn a lot of coding. at least i don't think so. kind of new to android so i dont know if it's easy or not. flashing zip files is easy. lol.

i use to cab up rededits for easy installs. i dont know if you know what red edits are or not, but many people wouldnt do them because they were tough. cab files were just like apk for android. zip files are just as easy really. maybe someday.
