Should I purchase a Pixel C? - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Pixel C owners, I am here to ask whether purchasing a new Pixel C for ~$450 is worth it or should I just go for an iPad?
Long story short, a family member who is not tech savvy would like a tablet and I have been using a Nexus 9 for school work and internet browsing. I have been finding the tablet to be really unreliable for multitasking and is looking for an upgrade myself; this is a good opportunity. Can you spoil me with your suggestion, the pros and cons of the Pixel C, and whether it's still a good tablet to get? Thank you in advanced!

I like, still a good tablet.

It is still the best Android tablet.

Thank you, I have decided to purchase one!

I bought the tablet in January it is seriously awesome. I read magazines, books, browse the web and remote onto windows machines. Its like a laptop, I use a bluetooth mouse with it as well.
The only issue I am finding is that there is a major lag with the bluetooth mouse. Otherwise the tablet is awesome.

Dont do it
Dont do it. Too many untouch screen issues that are ignored. Mine is a $750 paperweight now, until they fix the issue. Only a usb kyb or mouse plugged in will fix it, for a bit. Worst $750 spent. Google goofed up here and wont provide info. Mine will be returned.
:crying:

Don't buy iot, too little focus from Google onthe tablet and getting apps to work on a tablet well. Plus the C is now very old in the tooth. Go for an iPad or wait for a good Chrome tablet, I'll me getting one as my next tablet now, I've given up on Android on tablets due to Googles lack of dedication to it.

HOX compared to Tab?

Hi,
If anyone is like me, buying one gadget isn't enough.
I want one of everything!!
And im pretty much there now, got my laptop, got my new big TV.
GOT MY BABEY HTC ONE X
My question is, I wan't a tab, NEVER EVER buying an iPad though, my question is.
If I bought a 7 inch tablet, would it be pointless as the HTC one X is pretty much 5 inch? Would I notice a difference between sizes of screen etc. As I'm looking at the Nexus 7 at the moment.
Or would HTC One x users say that getting a 10 inch tab, such as the Galaxy Tab is a better IdeA?
Because I don't want to buy a 7 inch tablet, and be let down as it isn't big enough.
Thanks in advanced.

What the **** do you mean by that you idiot?
Listen, I was asking a question alright, don't want to answer the question then piss off.
XDA is being ruined by twats like this.
Just piss off you stupid twat..! If you've got nothing useful to say then just go play with yourself.. And leave the helpful people alone...! Grrrrrrr!
I agree with you there mate..!
To answer your question, I've got a one X, a nexus 7 and a Motorola zoom (10") and each size does look very different.. I read a lot on both my phone and the nexus and I find the nexus easier to read over long periods of time, not to mention the fantastic battery life on the N 7 compared to the one X also great for traveling with.. The 2 together are really good as you just use the one X as a hot spot and surf using the N7! Hope this helps?

Finally a useful reply. Thanks very much mate.
Just one question, does the N7 screen look lots bigger than the HOX, or would you say get a 10 inch tab?
Cuz I want something that I'm going to use, instead of resorting to my PC all the time.
I want something that I can sit in bed with, and not think "Jeez, this would be easier on a PC".
Basically, can you tell the N7 is much bigger than the HOX, or is a 10 Inch tab the way to go if looking for a bigger screen. (This doesn't make sense I now, but hopefully you can figure out what I mean)

I agree, he's dumb and hasn't now got the balls to reply to defend himself.
He's obviously still a child. (If not literally then mentally).
I think the ASUS Transformer Pad is way out of my budget. £200 tops is really what I can spend.
I'm gonna look round town to see if theres a N7 I can have a look at, because I'm not gonna purchase a tab if the screen size isnt a big enough difference.
Thanks for your replies guys !
Morning,
I'm pretty much the same as okuda1971. I have the HOX, an N7 and a Prime.
The overall screen real estate you get on the N7 is almost double the HOX and is great as an all rounder. I do tend to keep the N7 and the HOX together to use the HOX as a hotspot when I'm away from home/work.
The N7 is big enough for me to use at work as well as at home, even in bed.
The other half has a Vega (Nearly 10") and more often than not ends up borrowing the N7 for bed time browsing.
The simple answer from me is to find an N7 to play with if you're not sure and compare it to your HOX. Even better would be to find a store where you can line up your HOX with an N7 and the 10" tab of your liking.
If you're still not sure then just buy a 7" and a 10"

Yup, am going to find a N7 and compare it with, thankyou very much you guys great info.
What sort of stores will have an N7?
If you're in the UK then try PC World, Currys or (Oddly enough) HMV.
When I was searching for mine, HMV were the only place with any stock left.
The guys in my local Currys (Kettering if you are near enough) were only to happy to let me play with one in store. Before telling me that they were out of stock.
One thing I would advise though, as some people seem to have had issues, is to ask them to bring out a couple before you buy. Just to make sure there are no issues.
If you aren't sure of what issues there might be, then there are plenty of posts detailing the possibilities, though overall the percentage of units with issues is seemingly quite low. Going by Google and Asus' figures.
Currys had one on display not long ago but don't no about your area

Thanks people, deffo going to have a look around for a N7 on display.
I'm not buying one from store though, I will purchase straight from Google I think.
I just want to personally see one for myself before taking the plunge.
I've heard nothing but good about the N7, and if anything I'm buying it just for JB !
PS RUN OUT OF THANKS PEOPLE !
Personally, I've had no trouble at all with my N7.
It's a great device and JB just puts it above the competition. My poor Prime hasn't seen too much use since the N7 came home except to check for a JB OTA
Google Now is quite effective if not a little freaky in that it learns where you work and live. Mine now shows me the traffic and route to my office about 20 minutes before I usually leave. Google now knows all...
Wow, now your all making me want a N7!!!
Glad we could help
The worst part is when you have been playing with one in store and have gone from the "want" stage to the "need" stage only to be told that they don't have any in stock. At any branch of Currys or PC World in the UK .
It's like an implosion of disappointment.
Yes, but now I am prepared for that! So when I see it, and fall in Love, I know that I will have to wait.
But hey, thats what woman do? Play hard to get so that when you do get it you love it even more?
Same with tablets I guess
Interesting analogy.
As long as you can handle waiting for delivery and don't do what I did. You get funny looks sitting in a Currys car park searching Google for places nearby that might have them in.
In the end I used up quite a bit of fuel and had to send the missus to the HMV in Northampton (with my debit card) while I was at work.
In case you're concerned, I don't have that much of a problem. I was going on holiday the next day and wanted one for films on the plane.

Are Tablets a Waste of Money?

Hey guys I work for Bell here in Canada and have an opportunity to get a Samsung Galaxy tab s 10.5 for $50 upfront and 22.50 a month thereafter for two years on a term with the company.
I am unsure if I will use it, I have a HTC One m7 and love it, I have custom Roms constantly running on it and have on all my android devices.
I would love to watch movies and shows on the beautiful screen this tab is known for but also have chromecast so I have similar functionality at home already.
I am a university student and have an aging laptop which I do not like to carry around. Do you think a table could be good for school?
Also, 8 or 10.5 size? The 8.5 would be 10 upfront and the same monthly price thereafter.
Thank you for your time xda!!
Well I use mine for school also. It lasts 8 hours screen on time, but should last you the whole day if you use it for mixed usage(taking notes and other stuff). Its very thin and light to carry around. But this tablet is very fragile and can break when dropped. I have the 10.5. Its good if you want a screen as big as the laptop. But the 8.4 should do. There is slight lag on the homescreen but can be fixed but installing a different launcher.
Don't think tablets are a waste of money, but it depends on what you want to do with it. I actually have a few and just picked up the 10.5. My intent on the 10.5 was to use for work. It has worked out well as I picked up the matching keyboard with it. I am able to VPN into work and use it when remote, thus no need to fire up my laptop. I also have a Virtual Desktop environment at work, so with the 10.5 I can also connect to that once I am VPN'd in. Works great. Also works well for just browsing internet and note taking offline as well. To me well worth it.
However, the price you are mentioning seems to be a big high. Basically you are paying $590 for the 10.5. I would think you should be able to get it much cheaper than that if you pick it up directly. Check your local retailers for sales, particularly with the holiday season on us now.

Well as for a waist of money it depends. If you like to lay in bed at night and do some reading watch a show play a game or two, then this is the most comfortable way to do it. Also If you want to be able to look stuff up on the fly while watching TV or hanging out with the family, this is also a great tool. Breaking out a laptop or going to the computer every time you want to do this isn't always the best idea. If you don't feel you will use it for things like this or traveling then might not be a good idea.
I know its easy to say I'll just use my phone. However sometimes its just not nice to use a smaller screen to get things done.
As for worth buying the way your are considering it...
The 10.5" would cost you a total of $590 this way when you can easily find it on amazon or Google shop for $435 - $450. I know not much savings but if you can afford it I would go that route.
The 8.5" would cost a total of $550. That's only $40 less for a much smaller screen. If you want something between a phone and a full size tab then this is a good option. Again online they are much cheaper. I didn't do much research on this as I was only interested in the 10.5.
If the only way you could afford this is to finance it and are going to take the leap go with the 10.5 more bang for you buck in the end.
Just my humble opinion. I'm sure more people will have more incite for you good luck. Love my 10.5 BTW.

Great choice! Did you get the bronze or the white one? People think I buy expensive electronics because the bronze looks like gold to them lol. Luckly, it already has apps that can be used for typing and writing reports. Hancom office is the name i think.
The bronze, and oh man it looks incredible with the keyboard

Does the N1 have sleep/wake functionality?

I've just received my new N1 (with Play Store pre-installed!) and have also pre-bought a couple of cases from ebay which both state they are smart cases which have sleep/wake functionality. The problem is that neither cases works having no effect on the tablet at all.
So I'm wondering if the tablet itself actually has this functionality. If it doesn't it will be a real deal breaker for me. I am not going back to endlessly clicking to sleep a tablet, especially the amount of times I use it every day.
I can, in fact, answer my own question here and for anyone else wondering as I've sent out a few emails and have now got the responses.
I can confirm that the N1 DOES NOT have sleep/wake functionality! Astonishing that such a basic rudimentary feature wasn't installed on this tablet. I can also conform that it will not make an audible sound when plugged in to charge to confirm charging is activated/on, you know, like every other contemporary phone or tablet!
If you couple this with the lack SD Card expandability and their idiotic marketing/sales program for this tablet you can only say that Nokia have scored one massive own-goal.
It's so disappointing for a tablet which showed plenty of promise. The only option now looks to wait for Asus Zenpad 8 S with 4gb storage. Now THIS is what Nokia should have been making.
Double tap screen can wakeup.
I believe that it should came native with Android M. So hopefully it will get it.
If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy the n1 that it came with the play store?
Looking for one...

Bought one of these.... http://www.eglobalcentral.co.uk/nokia-n1-32gb-wifi-silver-en-2.html It comes pre-installed with all standard Google apps inc. Play Store. No need to root etc.
The feature may come native within Android M but if the device doesn't have the requisite hardware (magnet) then surely it just won't work. Such a massive oversight by Nokia.
I must pick up my tablet twenty times a day for both work and social and tbh I'm not going to start endlessly doubling tapping, it's so 2010. I've got used to the 'instant on' experience having owned numerous Samsung phones and tabs and also the MiPad so I'm not going back. I'll wager the Asus ZePad will come with it installed.

Mac & Android

So android and mac don't play well together. Apple doesn't allow mtp to work on mac and google have not updated their android file transfer app in ages and it's extremely buggy. What apps and methods you guys use to make your life easier? I have been using an app called handshaker, it's a decent app but still not as simple and solid as plugging your phone on windows.
Install windows using boot camp. Problem solved. Best of both worlds then.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
I dont want to install windows as i have a macbook air with 128 gb ssd and dont want to waste 30 gigs on windows since i dont really need windows at all.
the main problem is neither apple nor google is concerned with this matter which kind of sucks. i know there's probably a very less number of people using androids and macs together but i'd still love to see some solid solution.
Yea! I've been living with this problem too! Handshaker is nice. But transfer speeds are damn slow.
Well after 20 years of using Macintosh and about 5 of using android, the only way to get things working properly to install windows. Either using boot camp or parallel desktop emulator. Those are the only two fool proof solutions sadly, like it or not.
I agree, android transfer is completely crap for Mac. Having to disconnect and reconnect all the time in order to get one out of three times it works.
It used to work fine on Sony Z1 using 5.1 but marshmallow seems to be the issue to me.

This is sad. I gave up my Mac 2 years ago after trying to get a replacement screen for a 2010 Mac book pro and they told me $400. Bought a touchscreen Dell on sale for same price, windows 10 free upgrade, better processor and RAM, SSD, etc... Apple has always made a sleek looking, good product, but their lack of support without shelling or a ton of cash is why i left their desktop/laptop products. Android is why I left their phone products. They will probably never make anything to work with an Android device unless you pay them. Strictly apples to apples (pun intended).
I do hope you find a solution, cause I was thinking about replacing my wife's I Mac with a newer one, but if I can't use it ever, I'm going to find another win 10 machine.

I just use "File Manager" from cheetah mobile, downloaded from play store. Turn on wifi transfer, type the IP it shows you into your browser or ftp client, transfer files at 10-100x the speed of mtp.
Of course, both devices need to be on the same wifi, which isnt a problem in most cases.
Im sure some other file managers out there have the same function.

That is outrageous! And the unibody design was so easy to work on, seriously, 9 screws and you could do anything your self. The price I was quoted was for just the screen, the installation I was going to do myself. Unfortunately, at the time I was looking, there really weren't better prices floating around. I was finally lucky enough to find a decent priced screen just this year, resurrected my MBP and daughter is using for school.
One day people are finally going to realize everything they (apple) make is from China, costs them nothing to manufacture, then they markup like 400%. People complaining about the EPI-pen lady, but she just took a look at a business model and decided to copy it... I'm personally very happy to give my money to a company like one plus where they obviously markup the price, but just don't rip you off straight out the gate, and then make you pay out the nose if something goes wrong.
Haven't had a single issue with my old OnePlus one, which is also under the control of my daughter, and my three is phenomenal as well. Samsung is also another company I'll never give money to in the phone department. My brand new note 3 bezel broke after I put it in one of the "authorized" cases they had. Asked them to fix, and they tried to charge me a ton of money. But the Samsung TVs, wow, no one can compare, so they've got me hooked there.
After writing all this I guess I'm just becoming some sort of hippie or something. Just tired of the greedy companies taking advantage...

I agree with you. Companies like oneplus and xiaomi have proved that good products can be made and sold at resonable prices. Samsung is same as apple, they launched note 7 at 60k inr which is equal to 900 usd.

Good to hear you found a solution although you had to pay for it

i tried a few apps like this but in the end nothing is going to be as solid as plugging you phone to your pc and start transferring.

To each their own. Ive never had a single problem transferring files this way. On the other hand Ive had problems with plugging it in an using mtp, either with drivers or just how ridiculously slow it is.
The wifi method, theres no drivers involved, is about as fast as you can get regarding transfer speed, and I dont even have to get off my chair to find a cable.

I've used airdroid but i didnt really liked the apps interface, i tried a few others (dont remeber the name) apps like it. I'm really loving commander one, its simple and clean and since it supports mtp mode its as easy as it is in windows to tranfer your data.

good phone?

Hello everyone, i recently lost my phone and i have been doing some research into the phone i will be getting next.
I have been conidering this phone because it looks like it will satisfy almost all my needs (would like an amoled display but i can live without it)
So my question to all you nextbit robin users is: is it worth getting, what are your experiences with it, any big downsides?
i have been looking around the internet and some people said it was a bad phone.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Jim

I'm completely satisfied with it. Good specs and a good choice of ROMs to choose from.

The cloud only works with Nextbit OS.
It goes for $140 bucks. Can't go wrong at that price. Check it out.
I got it at 180€. It is the best phone available at that price in my opinion unless you wish to import a phone from China and deal with all the hassle.
How good is the camera?
Ok so Nextbit was recently bought by razer. my question is, Will the servers still stay up for the 100 gigs of storage? because if not i dont think ill buy it. i know they will no longer have the warrenty as of february but i really hope they will keep the servers up.
Cheers.
Jim
Edit: made saperate thread because maybe more people will notice
One of the Nextbit devs said the 100 gigs of storage servers will stay up for 1 more year (Feb 2018)
I have Robin and I also have a honor 8. I love the look and feel of the Robin and also love the dual front facing speakers. Plus Robin's OS is almost like stock Android except for the launcher which can be easily changed. The deal breaker is no SD card support I really wish they would have added a SD card support to the Robin and it would be an awesome phone. I don't want to store all my stuff in a cloud storage period. So unfortunately I will be keeping the honor 8 which has one the worst OS I've ever used. But if SD card isn't a big deal get the Robin it's a great phone. Also Robin's notification light is on the bottom next to the charge port which is kinda wired in my opinion.
I purchased this phone a few weeks ago, literally a few days before they were purchased by Razer. I was looking for a backup phone to my Nexus 6p and came across a thread where this phone was mentioned. Needless to say I've been actually using this phone more than my Nexus 6p. For $160, you really can't beat it. I don't use the cloud storage feature at all though. Main differences between 6p are: camera (6p is better but this one isn't bad), battery life (worse than 6p) , overall speed and updates. I like the unique look of the phone too.
But this phone is on par, if not better than the Nexus 5x, which I owned for a couple weeks before returning to get the 6p.
It really depends on what your expectations is for the phone. If you're coming from and iPhone, expect to be disappointed. If you're coming from a low budget phone, it will likely make you happy. The phone on its own with stock ROM performs very poorly (in my opinion as I'm a tech enthusiast, love high spec'd out Oneplus phones, so I've been spoiled). However, there is a silver lining. There is great support for custom ROMs and kernels for this phone. If you're willing to put in the time and research and work, it can easily perform on par with a $500+ phone. Just my two cents.
So i got the phone and after a week the top speaker stopped working. it sucks but i sent it back today and will be expecting a replacement soon. i really hope this one works this time.
