Is google replacing 5x with 6p? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Stupid question but, my 5x seems to have died and even a complete factory reset won't get it to boot properly so I contacted google and i was a month out of warranty but, they said they will replace it with a refurbished 6p in the email. Is this legit? I mean it's great and all if true but, has anyone had to do this and actually be sent a 6p?

I have to say u r really a lucky guy

Interesting. Last month, Google replaced mine with a brand new 5X despite me being out of warranty by about three/four months. Had the endless bootloop issue too.

Could just be a typo in the email. I was sent to an order form for the 5x so I would assume it's just an automated system.

[Q] Returnable?

So awhile back my Nexus speaker actually went out. It comes back on randomly. I've been a month or so without it before. Anyway, I'm curious if its returnable for a defective speaker to get it fixed. I'm not looking for a new phone as the one I have doesn't have issues lol, I'm lucky my screen was the only horrible thing out of nexus production.
So is it possible or am I looking at a home procedure on my phone?

Are you under warranty? If yes, send it back! If no, you can still try and see if they do a courtesy exchange. I've had success before.
Just note that if you attempt to fix it yourself you'll void your warranty.

Yes I know, hopefully it won't come to that.

Is this something? Marshmallow source code?

I can't post links due to how rarely I post. However, I searched the G4 on LG's open source website and found this:
ht tp:// opensource.lge.com/osSch/list?types=ALL&search=LGvs986
remove the spaces of course.
The source code for 6.0!! When was this posted?

You might want to include what it is in the title of the thread so more people see it.
I Dl'd no problem.
This means we're getting close.
Anything you can do with the source code? Or no because we have no access to the bootloader?

great thing actually,thanks

This can’t be compiled and flashed onto an actual device without an unlocked bootloader, if that’s what you’re asking...
Exactly what I was asking lol. Wonder how much longer the big V will drag their heels with this one... Its right there in front of us and we can't do anything with it. *sigh*

I may be jumping ship to the S7. I like the G4 but Verizon has neutered this phone to the point where I don't want,to deal.

This is sadly why I jumped to the 6P in November. I never realized how nice it was to be able to mod and customize your phone any way you want, and have actual 100% stable stock Android ROMs.

I've been thinking about getting the 6p...is it worth it? Works pretty good on Verizon without issues?

I had the Note 5 after my G4, then got rid of that for the 6P. I'm 100% happy with my choice, I do miss the outstanding G4 camera though.

I had the note 3 and was going to get the newest one but the SD card and removable battery were deal breakers for me. And with Verizon handicapping the g4 I hate it. Only problem is I'm stuck on the stupid edge plan and can't afford to pay off the g4 and buy a 6p outright.

If not for Verizon's coverage I would've left for AT&T long ago. Catch 22
Is this phone definitely getting the marshmallow update or not?
Yes, many countries already have the update.

It will sometime this year, but Verizon in particular is notoriously slow in pushing major Android updates to their customers. There is a good chance big red will be the last major carrier to push it out.

I just signed up for Project Fi and ordered the 6P with 128GB storage. I'm ditching Verizon AND what they did to the great G4. It's a shame, too. It's such an excellent phone, but it's just so... neutered.
Any possibility for a unlocked bootloder in the future?

Nexus 5X on Sprint

Hello all,
This is my first nexus phone since the N1(which I still have) I am coming from an HTC One M9. How is your experience with activation and usage? Is there anything I should know or understand?
Thanks!

I had no problems at all during release week back in October. Some others did. All depends on your local Sprint store really. By now though, they should be able to handle it with ease.

Dead 5x

Yesterday my wife's 5x shut down and would not restart. It took a few hours but it finally started. Today she was using it and without prompting a download it started a firmware update and now it seems to be stuck at zero. Any ideas short of an RMA?

Are you able to get into the recovery mode and clear the cache or do a factory reset? I would just call them for an RMA if not. Was able to get my free replacement in 2 days with expedited shipping.

I got mine through the Google Store and called their 24/7 customer service number. (855) 836-3987. After the call, they sent me a link that I had to use within 24 hours to order my replacement. I picked the expedited shipping which was $18.99 (Not sure if that'll be covered by them). A hold for the total amount was put on my credit card until the old one gets sent back. They also emailed me return and packing labels.

One of the reasons we like buying our devices directly from Google (and willing to pay a big extra) is their excellent customer support.
Cross shipment replacements, no questions asked replacements, and money back guarantee only available from the Google Store. Otherwise you're stuck with the manufacturer which all do their best to reject claims instead of help their customers.

Locked Verizon Bootloader?

So i plan on ordering a Pixel XL paying the retail price from Bestbuy since they have them in stock http://www.bestbuy.com/site/google-pixel-xl-4g-lte-with-32gb-memory-cell-phone-slate-verizon/5656050.p?skuId=5656050 but i noticed it says Verizon. So my question is will the bootloader be unlocked or not?
Pretty sure it'll be locked then, it's best to just get it from the google store.

This subject is covered several times on the board.
Yes, the bootloader will be locked if purchased from Best Buy or Verizon.
its been confirmed from multiple places that Verizons model will have a locked bootloader. so if you care about custom roms or resale value get the model from the google store. There is always a possibility that someone will figure out an unlock for the Verizon model but i wouldnt count on it
It seems it's all speculation. Haven't seen/heard anything fact that it is indeed locked. But knowing how Verizon operates it will be.

Yeah it all point to it being locked but wont really know until its released and Verizon orders ship
The Verizon N6 wasn't locked down. I have hopes but if its locked it doesn't matter to me.

I just ordered from there mostly due to getting it faster, plus the project fi is as low as $30 monthly, could cancel anytime!
If it's unable to be unlocked it would be the first time Verizon released a Nexus that way.

As stated multiple times the Verizon nexus 6 was still able to be unlocked, it was identical to the Google store one, just with a Verizon emblem on it.
If it's like the nexus 6 with unlockable bootloader I'll be getting the 128 xl from Verizon and be returning the 32 xl to the Google store. I kinda regret not getting the larger storage. Hopefully we will see the unlockable status for a fact on Thursday.

The reviews are out. Did not one single reviewer with a Verizon unit not check to see if it can be unlocked?
