Pixel XL Saves WiFi Network But Won't Connect - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

My Pixel XL lately has had issues connecting to some wifi networks. On a few networks, it connects perfectly fine, but on many, it saves the network instead of connecting. I have tried connecting on other phones, computers, etc, and they all do so just fine. I have also tried resetting the networks, changing the passwords, and moving extremely close to the router but to no avail.
This is frustrating as even my home's wifi network is one of the ones having issues. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. I have spoken to Google and they wanted to submit it as a warranty claim, but cannot since my back glass is cracked.

I just had a similar issue, my phone took at lest 10 minutes before it got past obtaining IP, my wife's android phone connected straight in, it was very frustrating because I was travelling and had run out of data on my roaming.
Another issue I have found it is common that it doesn't connect to my home and work wifi networks straight away and it's not until I unlock my phone that it does connect or in some instances I have to manually connect to it again.

What version of Android are you on?
What band are you trying to connect to?
have you tried statically assigning an IP?

7.1.2 (Have tried stock and multiple different roms)
I have tried 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Routers which automatically choose the band, and also manually setting the band (I tried 153)
I have tried assigning static IP with same result.
EDIT: I have also attempted connecting in safe mode, same result.

What do the logs on your router say about the connection?

New Lumia 900 - WiFi issues

All,
I recently got a Lumia 900 (yesterday) and for whatever reason I am having a hell of a time getting it to connect to my WiFi network at home, and other places as well.
The problem is that when I go to connect to my WPA2 WiFi network, I get the error saying that the network did not respond, please try again.
I have rebooted my wireless AP, router, etc. Other devices such as iPad, iPhones connect fine.
Another thing I noticed is that I cannot connect to some Open WiFi networks either, the error comes back saying that the Network could not be reached.
I took it down to the AT&T store and it connected up to their secure network so they said isn't the phone, it must be my router..
Anyone have any ideas on this? The phone will connect (as seen at the AT&T store) to some WiFi networks, just not the ones I need... :\

Not 802.11n exclusively, no. I am running 802.11b, g and n mode. I tried just 802.11g and that didn't seem to make a difference.
That is odd then. I'm running g+n and not having issues.
I wonder if this is similar to the data connectivity issues some people were having?
I am running my Lumia 900 on g+n and not having any issues either online pinkish color on automatic brightness.

Maybe it is try device because I have been able to connect to like any network.

I believe Nokia has fixed the wifi issue with an update.. ...
Have you checked if there is an update for your device?
Also try changing the The channels, maybe 11 or 13 and see if it makes a difference
I hope you have put the right password for your router

I checked for an update and their isn't one, according to the phone and the updater.. I am definitely using the right password.
I will try the different channel thing though and report back.
Did you restrict Macs on your router?

I've seen this before. The setting for mine requires mixed mode, if, any other setting is not set to default. Strange I know. But it's definitely a setting on the ap.
What brand is yours.
No MAC address filtering and I tried changing the channels, no luck.
Any other suggestions?
Update: Found an old LinkSys WRT54GL with the Tomato custom firmware I had loaded on it a few years ago.
Plugged it in, and the Lumia 900 connected right up.
I set my main wireless router (CenturyLink Q1000) to match the settings of just 802.11g and still, the Lumia would not connect.
I even tried re-flashing the phone with the AT&T Black [not ALIVE] firmware, still would not connect to the CenturyLink Q1000.
I cannot explain why the phone works with some access points, and not others. Not sure where else to go from here. The fact that I got it working with a completely different access point running an opensource firmware and not a commercial (centurylink) unit is baffling, albeit most frustrating.
Working fine with my Linksys E4200 (default settings) at home and some off brand router at work. WPA2, set for b,g & n. No problems on either router with my Surround or L900. Connects as soon as I get within range.

ISP give them out. But if most people are not having problems and the ones that are seem to be using a single manufacturers equipment then it would point to the equipment rather than the phone.

Correct.. The modem is actually manufactured by ActionTec, and Centurylink gives them to you when you get their DSL service.
If the phone worked with another router, then i'd say it's the router.
Go with Linksys.

WIFI connection issue

I am unable to connect to my WIFI at home, I have tried everything I can think of, which is quite a bit. All I get is obtaining IP loop and then says poor signal and quits trying, (I have tried sitting right next to the router) My router shows that DHCP has handed the phone an IP, but the phone does not seem to take.
Tried adding a network manually
Tried advanced settings, and giving a static IP address, I can get it to show its connected but can not get any internet, data etc.
Tried the *#0011#
Tried a master reset, and tried to connect to wifi before installing anything.
I am at a loss, would not be a big deal but the 4G at home is sketchy, cuts in and out a bunch, plus for what I paid for the phone the wifi should at least work.
Tmobile tech support is not much help, neither is Samsungs.
Any help is appreciated!

Does your phone's wifi work on other networks? (Coffee shop, neighbor's, etc..)
What type of authentication is your router using? Try disabling authentication and see if it works.
What model is your router? Does it have up to date firmware?

Yes it connects to my work wifi.
WPA/WPA2
Its a Belkin router, not sure of the model off the top of my head, I know its somewhat newer cause it has the N protocol.
I would really suspect the router if I did not have other devices that work fine on the network, 2 kindle fires, 3 laptops, 1 S,Captive, Wii, and Xbox, and my Vibrant worked fine till I got this phone. Not everything is on at the same time, but I am sure that would not matter cause I have never had an issue when it all was connected at the same time.
Have you flashed a kernel lately? I have issues connecting to my router flashing some kernels. Just a thought.

same issue
I have the same issue, but my Wifi wont connect to any network and actually show throughput if I set the wifi power **** to off with the *#0011# menu.
I was stuck on stock roms because akop based (cmx) dont have that service menu.
I recently flashed to Uvalh2 stock rooted and the wifi works as it should for the 1st time ever. I flashed back to ulvem and it needs the 0011 **** again...
my home router is also a belkin with b/g/n, but my wifi never worked anywhere without the menu trick;
ANY help to troubleshoot if this is radio/kernel/rom based or what setting the menu changes so we can possibly set it manually in terminal..
thanks for this thread
Best I can think of real quick is to try different kernels and modems. (Check out the Modem Flasher in dev, makes it really easy)

Just hate the fact I have to try other kernels and modems after paying an arm and a leg for this phone, should not have to.
And seeing I have never done that before it makes me heisatate even more, I am sure I can do it, just that whole what it.
I just dont get why if I give the phone a static IP then it will connect, but can not move data, I went to the *#0011# and was able to ping the router and laptop on the network etc. I am at a loss
Anyone have any other suggestions on this issue???

[Q] HTC One & Motorola Surfboard Modem Data Problems

Hey guys,
So I've had my Verizon HTC One for awhile now, and I've yet to really get it to work properly on my home WiFi network, regardless of the ROM or Radios I'm using.
I have a Cable provider at both my house and work, but each location has a different router. At work we use a Edgewater bridge/router combo, and I am able to upload/download and stream SD content okay, but never HD. However, at home on my Motorola Surfboard SBG6580 Modem/Router combo can rarely get things as simple as Google to bring up a search result. I never get a "Connection error" message, just a never-ending loading page. I've scoured the internet, and Motorolas help pages, trying to find any indication of a fix. I've attempted changing wireless settings between 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz, tried every channel available (1 - 11), as well as removing security encryption, firewall, and setting up a Static IP address, and there is no difference.. The odd thing is when I run a Speedtest, I get 10Mbps/1Mbps up/down.
The reason this has become a problem now, is I had a background data glitch and used 12GB's of data last month, resulting in a $200 phone bill (I don't usually go over 4, so I never paid attention to what was going on).
So, my questions are;
A. Has anyone else experienced this issue with the Motorola modems before, as I'm thinking about buying a separate Wireless Router as an option.
B. Is there any known fixes for this problem
I use to have the same Motorola surfboard. I had a few different issues. It would lose connection daily and it was inconsistent. I read up on it and it has several known issues. I sold it and have moved on to a Motorola docsis 3.0 modem and the night hawk router. Not one issue with any phones, tablets, or computers. No issues with htc one or one max.
Have you tried factory resetting your modem/router? Do other wifi device work ok with your router? Does your device work right on other wifi networks (not home or work)?

I've reset all the settings, both a power cycle, and a hard reset. Doesn't change.
All of my computers, my girlfriends S3, and my sisters Stellar work fine on the network. I don't go many places, so I haven't tested it on any outside networks, but the assumption is it SHOULD (in theory) work on non-Motorola routers considering it functions at my work.

Is there any firmware updates for your router. Also have you checked all the WiFi settings on phone and make sure they are default. The most important would be WiFi frequency set to auto. The problem has to be in the router though IMO. If you read around on line you will see many un pleased customers of that particular model. I would stray from Motorola routers to be honest. Even Cisco isn't the quality they used to be. I use an Asus router now and it works great. I have already burned up 2 Cisco usb wireless adapters and a d link and Cisco router. Moving to Asus was the best decision I ever made.
The fact that the phone works fine on other networks, and other devices work fine on your network leads me to believe that neither has a conectivity issue. I find it strange that browser activity is slow/non-existent, but a speed test shows good speed. What did you use to test that speed? Do apps that use the internet work at a normal speed, like the play store? Have you tried a different browser from the market, such as chrome or firefox?
The 6580 is junk. I work for a large ISP whose name begins with c and ends with t. We haven't gotten a decent firmware from moto yet. The firmware we are currently on suffers from all kinds of performance problems. Do yourself a favor and never buy an all in one device again.

That's good you have good luck with that model. The Technicolor wg from the same provider is also decent. I'm still a fan of having your modem and router separate. I will keep my blazing speeds from my r7000 using 802.11ac on this phone.

In some situations on my HTC One it has a hard time pulling internet from a wi-fi network when the frequency band is set to Auto. My One plays a lot nicer on Wi-Fi when I manually set it into 2.4ghz or 5ghz.
I just got this same modem and any time I connected my One to the network it would seemingly kill the wireless signal. I had a D-Link wireless router and the TW cable modem previously and I connected fine. My old Inc2 would cause the same issue with the old setup, never sure why it did that.
Anyway, after some searching I found a solution that has worked so far, not sure why, but I changed the LAN IP from the default 192.168.0.1 to .0.2 and no more issues, worth a try.
YMMV

[Q] Wifi is connected but no traffic, WTF?

I thought at first my router was having issues, but that is not the case. I have confirmed zero router issues by using 3 laptops and 2 other phones (Samsung units) to connect to anything I want.
If I connect using my M8 (Verizon), it connects with no issue but I have no real internet connection. The signal strength is -40 so that is not the issue.
I have tried multiple restarts, multiple networks, and multiple SSID's. I even tried forcing it to 2.4 or 5 Ghz and nothing at all seems to work.
Is this a known issue? I am coming from a long line of Samsung stuff so I am not up to speed on the quirks with HTC stuff. Your assistance is appreciated!

Stock, custom ROM, etc?
This is a stock ROM with weaksauce root and nothing else.
Ok, so I just connected to the wifi at my office and it appears to be working just fine, but it took about 15 minutes form my phone to recognize that the network even existed.
I am pretty sure this phone is just a piece of crap. About 2 hours after my last post it started doing the same thing (at work). I just got home and did a 100% fresh reset of both my router and my phone to eliminate any possible configuration issues and it shows that it is connected on the phone, but the router is not seeing that it is connected... how the hell does that work?

Since you've determined its a piece of crap, sell it and get yourself a iPhone. Why bother trying to get it to work.
When you connect to your router what details does it give in the phone WiFi settings for that connection?
Also which router do you use?

[Q] Wifi issues

Hey guys,
So all of a sudden, my wifi is searching and not connecting in a campus setting. My Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 is still connected to the same wifi my Note 4 was. I have tried rebooting, removing battery, shutting off and on data and wifi, and airplane mode. Nothing reconnects it. Also tried forgetting all networks since there are 5 when searching for networks it finds and reconnecting to one, still no dice. It's been 4 hours, still can't reconnect. Any ideas?

Have you tried to forget the network and then ADD it with + Add Wi-Fi network? I actually had an issue playing with a Galaxy note 10.1 2012 edition, I turned my hotspot (sprint note 4) on and named it the same as our current network (was showing how open networks aren't always the network they say and anybody can create a Starbucks-Guest network.... I used starbucks-guest because I didn't want to put my schools on here). The tablet didn't see the network even after reboots, but when I added the network manually it connected right away. Also was this connecting to the same access points or different ones on the other side of campus?
Yep tried forgetting, re-adding the wifi spot and nothing.
I've been having wifi connection issues since day one of getting this phone.
Not sure if I have the same problem.
But at least once a day, it seems the phone can no longer make a connection to my wifi.
The only solution is to either just power off the phone and restart or do what Sprint asked me to do.
Sprint said to try and reset the network connection information by dialing ##72786#
The phone will power off and then restart do some background stuff and then power off again and restart.
Once that is done, all is fine.
I've never had this happen on any other of my Android devices. I even use a static IP with my phone setup.
And yes, I have tried just using the default of DHCP.
I had thought it was my router (Asus RT-AC68U) which transmits both 2.4ghz and 5ghz. I have both setup and I try to use 5ghz the most.
I did upgrade the router software because I was one version behind, but that did not fix anything.
Also, I had a Sprint femocell in my house (provided for free from Sprint) because I had bad signal issues years ago.. But because this phone uses LTE and now it seems the phone comes with built-in WiFi Calling. (Means instead of using the cellular network it will use my network and ISP to make Sprint calls, all voice and text messages come through normally, it's basically a built-in femocell).
I returned that, whoops still in the box, need to get that mailed out fast.
I'm not sure how widespread this issue is, but I suspect it's bigger that just the two of us here. And if I'm in the wrong thread, please let m know.
Thanks
Rob
