Thanks, just placed an order for a custom skin.

I don't understand the point of these. They "look" good but offer absolutely no protection. So, essentially, you put these on your $800+ device and if you drop your $800+ device, you've got a really nice looking broken $800+ device.

Some people use clear or semi transparent cases and want a different look underneath those cases. Others are just super careful with their phones and don't want to ruin the look of the phone with a bulky case and are only looking for protection against scratches and minor dings. Understand the point now?

So, how would this protect against minor scratches and dings if it's only a sticker on the device? Wouldn't sticker rip if you dropped it or scratched it hard enough to rip it off the device?
I've yet to see anyone be "super careful" with anything because that would imply that they would never have anything slip out of their hands. Ever.
Why buy two things to cover the device? A real case and essentially, a sticker?
Hey, if spending twice the money on two things is what is good for you, great. I'll just buy the clear case or whatever case and not worry that I have to be "super careful".
More power to you.

It's all about personal preference. This is essentially equivalent to a screen protector for the back/camera lens. I have one on my phone which is also in a case. My case hardly shows the skin but for the parts that it does show (camera and area around camera) having it in matte black is nice. Also, some cases will collect dust and crap and scratch the back glass (on this phone especially.)

If you don't use a glass case, the skin offers a surface that's extra grippy instead of slippery glass. I personally use a clear Spigen case and have a skin on the back of mine. It looks nice, covers my Verizon logo and all the suck branding to give it a uniform flat looking back instead. Also the bottom of my phone would always get scratched up trying to get my charging cable or wired headphones in. The skin on the bottom protects the metal around the Port from scratches. You're probably the kind of person that complains about wrapped cars. You can get a custom look without voiding the warranty, it offers an extra layer of protection to help keep it's value later and it's cheap.

Soft vs Hard Cases

So I was wondering, would I be protecting my One X better with a hard case, or a soft case?
I am looking to order my accessories ahead of the phones delivery, but have never had a case on a phone before so have no prior experience. The clear HTC hard shell looks nice, but would I be better with a soft one?
Also, is there a general consensus on the best company to buy cases from?
I can understand why people want want to protect their shiney new X with a hard case but it just adds bulk to an already large device and wouldnt want to spoil its good looks would you?
I've gone for the official slip case and insurance, if I drop it I lose it

Hmm actually, a slip case might do.. my concern isn't really about when it is in my hands so much, just from dropping my bag, or putting my feet up on a train where it could slip out a pocket. I have only ever dropped my Milestone while walking along with it without actually using it at the time.
Are you going with a screen protector?
Nah not going to bother with one of those either.
If you're ordering from the UK then this is the cheapest I found for the official slip case. Most I found are around £15 but this is £9.95 with free postage. Arrived 2 days after ordering as well.

This case also has micro-fibers to help clean the screen, haven't managed to test it yet though..... Amazon.co.uk reports my X should be with me tomorrow

A slip case will help protect it in a bag or pocket from scratches caused by other stuff, like keys or whatever else you may have in there. Falling out of pockets will most likely occur without the slip case - it will slip out of that as well, and then not be protected. Slipping out of hands it will also not be protected (although I did read you said you weren't worried about that, this is what happens if it does.)
I have a blackberry from work in a pouch, don't care if it scratches but the pouch keeps it away from too much harm. I wouldn't want my brand new One X to dent or scratch just yet, it's too shiny and new for that, and that screen is sooo wonderful. I most definately will be using a case and a screen protector - you can always remove those when not needed. I never used a screen protector on my HD2, and it only ever got one tiny scratch on the glass in two years of intensive use (even dropped it a couple of times). It got that scratch however within a few weeks of my getting that phone, and bugged me since, even though it was hardly visible.
Cant stand any hard/soft cases. Slip cases all the way for me and you protect the whole phone as well

Why would you need a screen protector on a device that has Gorilla 2 glass? Seems kinda pointless if you look at the endurance tests they put it through online. Unless you plan on taking a screw driver or chisel to the screen , I think you will be just fine.

[REVIEW] Incipio Feather for HTC One

I had this case on the HTC 8X in grey and it was easily one of the best cases I've ever had on any phone. The thinness, feel and texture was great.
As a first case for the HTC One I decided to buy this one but in black instead of grey to match with the light aluminum. It's a great case, it feels great, adds grip and the matte color is awesome. The grip and feeling on the back is superb. However, for that matte look, the black case texture/material is a little different than the one I had on the grey for the 8X.
It attracts finger prints and sweat or grease of your fingers. If it wasn't for this, this case would be perfect, at least for me.
If you don't live on a humid place or don't have have problems with finger prints, get this case by all means. Where I live it's almost 80%-95% humid all year so even if I don't have sweaty hands, it's inevitable that they get moist.
To sum up, it's a wonderful case, despite the problem with the smudges on the back. For that detail alone, it won't be for anyone as it would need to be cleaned two or three times a day to avoid the greasy/moist look on the back.
I do plan to get one in grey as the one I had on the 8X had an even better texture and feel and it didn't attract stains or finger prints at all. AT ALL. It was also a much of a darker grey that it showed on the pictures and I liked it even more when I got it.
For scratch protection, minimum bulk and great look and feel, this is a very good case.

I like the open top and bottom because it adds to the lightweight of the case and allows the natural aluminum color to be displayed prominently. The accessibility of the USB port and the power button is great because there is nothing around them.
This kind of case is only for scratch protection but that's the kind I'm always looking for.
I've also recently purchased this case in black. I LOVE the look of this case and one of the main features I like is that it still manages to maintain the ultra slim look and feel of the HTC One. This case really does fit well and doesn't detract from the stellar good looks of the phone.
One thing I do look for in these slim cases is that if the top edge of the case is slightly raised above the glass. That's a positive for me as I do not use screen protectors. With the top edge of the case raised just a hair it makes it easier to put my phone face down without worrying about scratching the glass. The Incipio Feather does have this very slight edge thankfully.
The only downside so far is that I've had to return my first case due to cracks. The two top corners of the case started to show stress cracks for some reason. In fairness they could have already been there as the first case I bought was already opened at the store and could have been a previous return. I didn't really check it that closely. It could have also been from me being a little aggressive taking the phone out of the case once to show somebody how slim it was. It fits really well so I may have forced it a little too hard.
The store did replace the case as it was previously opened and I checked the new one pretty carefully so no issues so far with the replacement. I'll post back here if any cracks appear again. Just in case you get one, be careful removing or installing the case and you should be fine. If you want the ultimate in good looks, decent grip and scratch protection then you won't go far wrong with this one. If you're one of those folks that likes the big armoured cases then this one isn't for you and nothing to see here.
This case will give you some basic protection while still maintaining the look and feel of the phone. And admit it, the look and feel of the HTC One is at least half or more of the reason you bought this awesome phone in the first place! Cheers!

You can contact Incipio about this. The case comes with a one year warranty and I'm sure they'd be willing to cover that and replace it.:good:
I've bought a few cases for the One and this is definitely my favorite, all the rest I enjoyed but missed the slim line feel. The incipio is the best of both worlds.

Just ordered one of these.
I'm seeing a lot of reviews on Amazon with the lighter colored ones hazing up flash pictures. Seems to be a common thing with close cutouts for the LED. Black cases are going to be the best to avoid flash interference.
Got mine and yes it's definitely one of the most minmalist cases I've ever used. Be careful with this one as it doesn't afford much in the way of drop protection but you already knew that...
The lip over the screen is a bit shorter than I'd like, still need to be wary of setting it down screen down just in case.
However for those that prefer the naked feel but don't want to be paranoid of scratching the back when sitting on a table, you will like this!
Be wary the plastic cutout piece along the top where the volume rockers and usb charging port are quite thin and can break if stressed too hard when putting the case on and especially taking it off, just take you time and be gentle.
The black finish does show finger grease but is easily cleaned. The incipio dual is the same way. At least it doesn't scratch super easy like some of the smooth and glossy backs.
No case is perfect, that's why I have a drawer full of different cases!
I like the minimalist look, but does anyone know of any similar type 'snap on' cases that has a bigger lip over the corners/edges so that the screen is more protected?
My friend has this case in grey, and hers started peeling/chipping on the back after a few months of use. She contacted Incipio and they'll be sending her a new case which is good...
I picked up a case for my HTC One at best buy. It looks 100% identical except for the logo on the back of the case. Very nice case.

There is the Poetic Palette and Nillkin Hard Case/Shell. I can't say about the front lip for the screen as I don't own them but you can search for pictures and see if it is more prominent than the lip on the feather.

It depends on how careful you are with your phone, but I would definitely recommend a case and screen protector to avoid getting scratches, if nothing else.

That depends on how much protection you want and if you mind covering up the back of the phone (it's nicer than most phones so some people rather not).

That's the one I have, and I like it a lot. Protects the sides and the back, without covering the aluminum body.

I never have much issue with screen scratches (usually) but I'd still err on the side of caution and do at the very least a screen protector. I'm going to replace my ZAGG (which I'm hoping is just scratched and not a crack on the screen ) with one of those fancy shmancy glass screen protectors with the rounded edges.

TPU skin is good enough if you have good reflexes.
While it is falling, you'll probably break its fall by hitting it up. Plus you can find absolutely clear TPU skins.
A case is a must, screen protector is not.
What I do is whenever I get a brand new phone, I always start with a good protective case and a screen protector. After a few months, I gradually get thinner cases and usually end up with those 0.3-0.5mm thin cases that makes the phone feel nice and less bulky. If you plan to rock the phone naked, I'd recommend a phone pouch.

Thank you very much for the quick response I'm still searching for a good frame or case, is it true that the origin HTC bi color case leaves scratches on the phone I won't believe it .....?! I also hope that the black version is scratch resistant some people said not......I just talked with a Vodafone assistant to change the black against the silver but he said to me that himself have the black one and I looks quite better and after two month usage without any case he have no scratches. I'll take the black one, it comes next week and I will give you a first impression.

Its not REALLY a must IMO. The phone actually holds up very well. Yesterday i purposefully put the phone in the same pocket with a bunch of coins and it scratched the aluminum but the scratches wiped right off. If you drop things than that would be a different story at aluminum can easily dent :good:
That was my point also ... it looks a little exaggerated to say that a case is a must.
I intend to use the phone "naked" indoors. Any case will practically ruin the nice feeling of the phone itself. Of course, if you drop it then there are chances to ruin the nice finish.
I'm also using the phone outdoors, fr sports. For that purpose I ordered a trident kraken ams ... I hope it will do the job.
P.S.: I saw that a OEM housing is "only" 50 bucks, free shipping ... I guess I'll buy one just in case .
I would say that if you carry your phone in your pocket a case is a must. I generally like to go case-less (especially with a phone this pretty), but after having my One slip out of my pocket on a couple of occasions, I ended up getting a case (Poetic Atmosphere; the rubberized edges keep it from slipping out). If you intend on getting a pouch of some sort, I think case-free is fine.
Also, I don't have a screen protector and have no scratches, though I tend to be pretty gentle with my phones.

On Etradesupply, the OEM housing is only like 30 bucks.
I say a TPU case is a must because:
1) You WILL drop it at some point, it's anodized AL, not grippy plastic.
2) The case provides a lip, so if you put your phone face down, the screen won't touch the surface & scratch from w/e dirt is there.
3) The case will also keep the camera lens (or the anodized back) from touching any surfaces.
4) I wear a ring, and if I don't put a case on, the ring scratches ONTO the phone. That's not good.
If you're REALLY careful, then none of these matter. but it's hard to be perfect.
Besides, when I'm in bed, I can just quickly remove the case for a little bit. It feels nice.
This phone is just too good looking to cover up, IMO. I've been going naked since day one I don't have a single scratch on it. The aluminum housing is solid and whatever glass HTC used really resists scratching. My One X screen got covered in microscratches pretty quickly, but I haven't seen anything on this phone.
Just treat it with care and you can forget the case. CNET tried to destroy their test phone and couldn't do it.
I have a double dip case bought at once with the phone. Well .. the feeling simply does not compare with the case on. It just loos cheap and plastic'ish ... is worse than galaxy S4 actually. So, with all the risks involved I will go "naked" while in normal use and I will use the kraken ams for outdoors. That's all ...
I only like corner protection. I don't care about the back.
I used to have a screen protector on this but I don't like it, it doesn't make the display look as nice. I have since taken it off and have not gotten any scratches, not even micro ones. I think this display is more tough than previous GG2 screens. I had the ONE X+ and it scratched easily.

I respectfully disagree, as will most in this forum that Android is horrible.
Maybe you can post what apps you are looking for and other users can tell you if there are equivalent apps.

Case Necessary?

I have a 32GB black Nexus 5 ordered and waiting for it. A lot of you have already seemed to ordered/received screen protectors and cases for the Nexus 5 and I was just wondering is a screen protector and/or a case necessary? Is the Nexus 5 likely to be damaged without a case?
If a screen protector is required, what's the difference between a plastic protector, such as from XtremeGuard, or a 'tempered glass' one from Spigen?
Thanks for any help provided.

You can expect wear and tear on any device. How much occurs depends on what you do to protect it and how careful you are with it. Personally, I hate cases but now that I'm no longer with sprint and use off contract phones I like to protect the resale value of my phone and keep it in mint condition.
As for the tempered glass screen protectors, I have no experience with them. I try to stay away from things that break, such as glass.

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. I've always kept a case and screen protector on my phones. Reselling these phones when you're ready to upgrade goes much smoother when your phone is in mint condition, with absolutely no wear and tear on it. If someone is going to buy it from you and hand over $200+ in cash, it makes them feel better when the phone looks 2 weeks old rather than over a year old.
The only fear I have is denim stains on the white one. I always keep my phone case-less as I never drop my phone ever. I'm thinking about a case just to prevent denim stains. I got denim stains on my HTC One I'm using now and got them off by using a magic eraser, but I don't want to have to do that every month. Hopefully it's just a HTC problem

I get the importance of maintaining the phone in good condition, but doesn't putting a case on ruin the aesthetic appeal of the phone and a screen protector reduce the clarity and brightness of the screen? And doesn't a case also make the phone bulkier and heavier?
If so, you all believe this comes secondary to maintaining your phone in good condition?
To me it just depends. If you are capable and willing to fork out the money to replace a broken screen in the unfortunate case that you drop and crack it, then don't use a case. If you aren't, then use a case

While it does lower the overall aesthetic appeal of the phone, I only buy cases that I feel are pleasing enough to the eye. The added bulk isn't usually a concern for me. I also only buy clear screen protectors, so the clarity of the screen isn't affected (to my eyes at least). It does negate most anti-glare features if a phone has them, but again, I've never personally noticed it in the past.
I consider cases and screen protectors a one-time insurance plan purchase for my phone. In 6 years of owning differend smartphones, I've only ever dropped my phone 2 times, and the cases saved both phones. To me, that is a higher priority than the incredibly minor (IMO) aesthetic "hit" that the case provides.
To each their own, though.

The Google play store is selling some pretty nice looking cases with nexus on the back like on the phone itself. As for screen protectors, I don't notice them unless you don't do the best job putting one on and get a ton of bubbles.
Here's a tip for putting on screen protectors if you're like me and you suck at it. Get them to do it at a cell phone store lol.

You can always go with a Bumper Case if you want to maintain the "aesthetic appeal" of the case:
http://www.amazon.com/i-Blason-Goog...qid=1383319857&sr=8-2&keywords=nexus+5+bumper
With screen protectors, there are many, many types available.. some will reduce the clarity/brightness, you just have to choose what best fits for you (especially going universal where you cut your own out).
I agree with the other statements, though. I always use a case on my phones, regardless how I feel about its beauty. My current HTC One, which is an awesome looking device, resides in its case
Might I recommend Poetic Borderline bumper! I had one on my Nexus 4 last year and my brother has one for his iPhone. Very nice, very protective, and stills shows off the nice back.
Necessary? No... But neither is dropping a phone or any other accidental damage.
It's better to spend $30 and be protected than not at all.

Depends on the person really. I myself personally use cases to have a better grip to the phone to prevent accidental drops rather than the protection. I haven't dropped my Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 4 in the time that I've used them.
The protection is always nice as well, as long as it isn't too bulky and offers the minimal protection to the point where nothing would get cracked. At least thats how I see it. Theres a lot of high quality cases that are $10-$20 as well.
Struggling with this myself. I always grab a black Diztronic but the official Google cases tempt me and the actual design of the 5 seems more resilient than in past years.

+1 on that.. the back of the phone itself seem very grippy. I'm telling myself whether or not to buy a case or just use the phone naked since I am a pretty careful person. I'll probably just get the phone when it gets here and try it for a day or two and if I'm not satisfied then I'll buy a case. Maybe get a slim case just incase.

I guess the best thing would be to go into the N7 2013 forums and look at how those have held up. Since they share a similar design language and materials, I'm hoping it translates into the smaller package. Plus, they used Ceramic buttons as well. (My Lumia 920 buttons have held up incredibly over then last year.)
no case or screen protector

Get one of the anti gravity cases, actually makes it lighter.
I'll spray my screen with Thompsons water seal.
I usually go naked, but I'll use a case for the N5 because the camera sticks out a bit.

And with Thompson's you can really get that special shine
Oops, now for some on topic. I am using a moto x naked in all its glory and plan on selling it to recoup m n5 costs and its something you case and protector folks miss out on. The gains far outweigh the risks in my opinion. I also had my launch day n4 naked about 90% of the time and the wife now has it and goes naked too Don't rob yourself of the true experience, I used to always have a case and protector on but not anymore :good:

I agree. I'm extra careful with my phone. I've had screen protectors, which have all been taken off. I bought the Spigen case (clear back) and hated it. It would stick to the back of the N4, which made it look like it had liquid between the two. I ended up just sticking with the bumper from Google. It's really all the protection I need, and it really looks classy. I wish they'd make a bumper of the same form for the N5.
Some people just take the philosophy of being careful and go without a case or screen protector, while others take precautions through cases and screen protectors. You could be a very careful person and still end up dropping your phone by accident, or you could have a case plus a screen protector and never drop it anyway.
There is no "right answer", every person has to decide for themselves depending on how they weigh the pluses and minuses.

Do you need case for Optimus G?

Hello!
Can LG Optimus G get scratched on Gorrila glass and does it requires additional case and screen protector to keep device unharmed (without scratches and visual defects) ?
Thanks!

The short answer is yes, it can be damaged. Gorilla glass is not a guarantee against scratches -- it sure helps when you put your phone in a pocket with keys, coins and stuff, but a tiny grain of sand can still leave a scratch on it (not saying it necessarily will, but it certainly can). The back cover is relatively easily scratched and scuffed, especially in the corners (I have some visible wear marks on it, but don't have a second camera to take a photo right now). The bezel on this phone can also easily get nicked, as the plastic is pretty soft.
So, I would definitely recommend some protection, if you care about the appearance of your phone. I personally decided against using screen protectors quite a while ago, for number of reasons (I still use it on my tablet, but not on phones), and I just try to be careful with the screen. So far, so good. But a good case for me is a must. It also makes the OG easier and safer to handle, as the naked phone is quite thin and slippery. There is a lot of decent cases available for our phone. You can also take a look in the Accessories forum for some first-hand reviews and comparisons.

As I said, just look around in the Accessories forum -- it's there for a good reason. You will find my review among other people's feedback.

Thank you!
Yes still gorilla glass is not fully guaranteed
Yes, I think using a case is needed because a few months ago I didn't have a case, so my phone fell and now it has a broken corner. Now I use a hard silicone case.
I have not bought a case and mine is marked because of falls. I'm not happy with it. Buy a case .
Yes, I am using nikkin case.
I am using case and screen protector for more than 2 years and my phone looks almost like a new one
