Are Project Fi purchased phones SIM unlocked?
When purchased brand new from Project Fi on the monthly payment program?
Are they SIM unlocked for use on any carrier worldwide?
"If I buy a new Pixel, Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X from Project Fi, will it work with other wireless providers?
Yes, a Pixel, Nexus 5X, or Nexus 6P you get from Project Fi comes unlocked and can be used with other wireless providers if you choose to leave our service."

Project FI is a sim card that you can purchase separately from a phone that supports it. A phone that supports Project FI it is not tied to it. In other words, phones and Project FI are different things. Now, if you buy a phone from Google Play store, it will be completely unlocked.
Is someone trying to scam you by selling you a "Project FI phone?"

I purchase my devices from Project Fi. They are Sim unlocked just like the ones from the Google Store because they are the ones from the Google Store. However, Project Fi has their own stock of devices. When it comes time to warranty the device, you contact Project Fi, not the Google Store or Google Support.
So technically they are Project Fi phones? Yes and now I guess??

Never had any idea that Project FI had its own store and its own stock of phones. Are you sure they don't just come from Google Play?

Yeah I asked them. It's all under the same address but the stock is separated. I first noticed this when I was going to order the Pixel XL and the Google Store said 5 weeks before it would ship out because of stock. That's when I remembered I got Project Fi. Called them and ordered it, got the phone the next day because their stock is different than the Google Store. They all come out of the same warehouse though. Same thing with the warranty devices.

Good to know for future reference (Pixel 2.)
Google purchased vs. Project Fi purchased phones not only come from different supplies but even have different warranty policies.
Such as extended warranty from Google is a totally different company than extended warranty from Project Fi.
Thanks, fatapia. I didn't think to search for non Pixel Fi phones to find out the policy.

I bought the Nexus 5X a few days ago (before I knew about the $150 rebate.) I immediately put it on the AT&T network. I use Google Voice to supply the phone number on my Nexus 5X. I want to get the $150 rebate for the Nexus 5X via trying Project Fi, so I contacted Google and they said once my Project FI sim arrives, activate it, call them, and Google will give me my $150 rebate. However, I want to spend a few days testing Project Fi and AT&T in my neighborhood, then decide which one is best for me. Can I activate the Project Fi in my new Nexus 5X, and switch back and forth from the Project FI sim to the AT&T sim?
Yes, the phone is not locked to one carrier. I'm using fi and Verizon interchangeably. I bought this phone again due to the massive price discount for trying fi. I can now justify keeping this phone. Returned it last time when it was over 400 bucks lol

I own another Nexus 5X which I bought several months ago. Once I activate Project Fi on the new Nexus 5X phone, could I then remove the Project Fi sim, and use Project Fi on my older Nexus 5X, while using AT&T sim on the new Nexus 5X?
I would assume so. Never had more than one nexus at a time so can't say for sure. But it's just a SIM card so I would think so

I'm wondering what would occur if I bought a Nexus 5X from project Fi and activated it then immediately canceled the service? Would I pay for the full price of the Nexus 5X?
I think you will be fine with activating for a very short time.
Two suggestions.
Read https://fi.google.com/about/faq/#supported-devices-3 it says
How can I receive a special Project Fi discount for the Nexus 5X?"
For a limited time, Project Fi is offering a discount of $150 off our normal price for the Nexus 5X, with activation required. If you purchase a Nexus 5X from fi.google.com, the discounted price will automatically apply during checkout. You must then activate Fi service on the same account within 30 days of device shipment, or an additional $150 will be charged to your Google Payments account to match the full price of the device. There is no minimum activation time needed to be eligible for the discount. "
Or got to https://support.google.com/fi/contactflow?hl=en and request a call and just ask them.
I had thought about doing the same thing but I don't use a whole lot of data (work from home) and the coverage actually ended up being really good in my area so I'm staying with it.
I'm not a Verizon customer, but I got. A used Verizon Pixel. Do I Go through Verizon or Google for warranty?
If it originally came from Verizon, than Verizon. Not sure if they will accept it for warranty since you are not the original owner.
I know Google will transfer to new owner if the old owner makes a phone call.
How will Verizon support non Verizon customer/ owners with warranty?

When was the last time you checked this?
They might have changed their policy.
I have a Pixel C that I bought on Swappa, and the screen just bit the dust after two months of usage. Called Google Support two days ago and they basically told me to go pound sand since I wasn't the original owner (they were polite, but that was the essence of their message).

Ugh... Thanks. I guess I'll wait and get a new black 128 when they become available and sell the VZ unit
So the Google store has the Pixel XL as out of stock with no mention of when it'll be back in stock and the only thing you can do is join a "Waitlist".
However for some reason, going through Project Fi, I was able to buy a Pixel XL no problem and was even shipped the next day, but I also had to get Project Fi with it. Now once the phone comes in I should be able to cancel Fi provided I don't insert the Fi Sim Card right?
Pixel XL seems to be in stock if you order through Fi...
Same experience for me. Fi is great ! $$$ back is sweet . . .
Yep. I ordered mine a few weeks ago. The Google store was out of stock and Fi shipped the next day. Replaced my Nexus 6.

Yeah that should work just fine. But I would seriously consider giving Fi a go. I made the switch from Verizon about a year ago when I got the Nexus 6P. I was worried about coverage and losing signal, speed, etc.....but it turned out to be just fine. I l ove only paying for the data that I use. Plus you just can't beat their customer service. Anyway, just IMHO!

Perfect!
I don't mind of giving it a go and I actually plan on trying them out but only in the future. I renewed my contract with Verizon only two months ago, but once that's done I'll definitely try them out and see how they are. Their coverage maps in my area show great coverage so I am sure I won't have problems.
Just keep in mind that if you "finance" through Project Fi then they will send you nasty letters and even bill you in FULL if you don't activate and use the phone on Fi.
I don't know what they do if you stop using Fi after a while.
I guess I'll find out some day.

Oh no, thankfully I didn't go through that route. The phone was paid in full and in regards to Project Fi, they said it won't bill until the SIM is inserted into the phone and activated, meaning if I cancel before that I should have any problems.
I am new to project fi and just completed my first month. I was previously with Sprint. The network is fast, very fast. I used just under 5 gb of data with no tethering. With Sprint, I was always under 2 gb. I'm thinking now that it is because I have virtually no loading problems with videos and the fact that I left google play music going for about six hours after a phone call are the reason my usage is so high. I travel alot for work(truck driver) and have experienced no dropped calls or service and I've went from TX to NC and back. Alot of dead spots on that route with Sprint but have had LTE the whole way. The only problem I encountered was that pictures wouldn't send the first day. That was an easy fix and have been rolling since. I also order from the fi store and got the pixel xl.
I ordered from the Google store and they included a Fi sim.

Wow. . . . My understanding was that financing ( and paying ZERO interest ! ) was one animal in the zoo . . . . But ordering a phone thru 'Project Fi' was a similar but different animal . . . . Are they really one and the same thing ? Does Google present it as being that way ? Or do you find out after you find out ?
I went ahead and chatted into Project Fi customer support.
Names, dates and times have been edited to protect the innocent.

What happens if I sell my Project Fi "financed" 32GB Pixel XL so I can buy a 128GB Pixel XL?
CZ Eddie ------
Great. This 32GB phone is awful, I'm always running out of space. I contacted Google after having it for three weeks, but they said it was too late to return it and upgrade.
GoogleAgent------
I see. So you are wanting to just sell the phone?
CZ Eddie ------
Unless you want to give me an exception and let me return it to get the 128GB?
CZ Eddie ------
I don't mind paying the extra money of course.
GoogleAgent------
I wish I could, but we don't have an upgrade program.
CZ Eddie ------
I can't stand this one. 32GB on the Pixel isn't as good as 32GB on my older phones.
Okay. So I guess I'm back to selling this one to buy the larger one.
GoogleAgent------
You will have to pay it off and remove it from your account so the person can activate it.
CZ Eddie ------
What if they don't use it on Project Fi?
GoogleAgent------
Let me check.
CZ Eddie ------
Also, while you're researching. I need to know if I can order the 128GB Pixel on the monthly payment. That way I'll already have it when I go to sell the 32GB Pixel.
GoogleAgent------
The 32 GB phone will have to be paid off and removed from your account before it could be activated. The IMEI would show as linked to your account, so they would not be able to use it.
GoogleAgent------
You could go ahead and try to order the new phone if your financing is enough to approve it.
GoogleAgent------
Try going here. http://fi.google.com/buy-devices

FYI, Google "Financing" originally approved me for something like $1800.
I still have the balance of that left over after the $769 for the 32GB Pixel XL I bought from them.
I'm going to use it to buy the XL 128GB as soon as it comes back in stock.
Then I'll pay off the 32GB and flip it onto Swappa or Craigslist or something.
I originally decided I wanted this phone for Christmas, but then I saw it was out of stock. I'm on the wait list, signed up for nowinstock.com to alert me - I've waited a while, and it still isn't restocked. The battery on my 5x is terrible, and i can only use my phone very lightly because of it. Is it worth waiting until the pixel restocks? I really don't want to settle, but I also won't know 100% how good the phone is until I actually buy it. Also, I will not buy it from Verizon (I don't want to be locked down and get bloatware, and I use at&t).
Does anyone know how long until there is a restock? It will take 3-4 weeks to let alone ship, so I wonder how long I'll be waiting to order in the first place. That "out of stock" every time I check is making me hopeless D:
I was in the same boat in November but the wait list never sent me an email. I ended up using nowinstock.com and got a notification from them in a day or 2 and bought one. You have to be Johnny on the spot though, by the time I finished up the checkout process and went back to Google devices site they were sold out again. I never did get an email from Google's wait list.
Sent from my BTV-W09 using Tapatalk
I never got a waitlist email from google either. But I manually checked daily for about 10 day period in November and finally caught them available. Only took a couple days to ship.
Keep checking, seems like they get restocked periodically.

I use that site too. It's been a long time and still nothing, and it says they last restocked November 30th. That's over a month. I guess it will be a long wait I check daily just in case as well, and nothing.
The Verizon thread says they are finally seeing some deliveries (some had been pre ordered since Oct) . But, I wonder if the Google store has put a little hold on the pixels to play whack a mole with some of the issues.

Well when you order through Verizon, the Pixel XL 128GB (all colors) have a ship date of February 17th, so I guess that means it'll be a while!
You might also keep an eye on Swappa and eBay. That's what I'm doing. I have a 32GB, but may make the switch to a 128GB. Not that I probably need it, since I can backup all my pics and videos at full resolution, but I always have to have the biggest a s best. LOL.
From what I'm told by a very reliable source at Google, they've been feeding Verizon with the bulk of all 2 million Pixels that will/have been manufactured. 128GB NAND is just very hard to source.
If you're paying full retail price, you could check the Fi store. You don't need to activate Fi as long as you pay full price of the phone (otherwise, if you're financing and buy thru Fi, you have to activate within 30 days or else you'll be billed the entire cost of phone).
That's how I got my black 128GB XL. I had been on that waitlist for a while. I think I still am lol and never got an email. But the Fi stock comes and goes certainly more often.

I'll unlock mine upon receiving it. Plus, with Verizon, the phone costs $8.33/mo for the 128GB variant (holiday special). It's worth it for the 3 apps they put on (they're removable anyway)!

Got my 128gb slate gray from Verizon it's back ordered now but the blue one is shipping right away. The rest are anywhere from Jan 17 to Feb. But just because it says those dates doesn't mean it won't ship until then. Basically as they make more they'll ship earlier. I work for Verizon and they're not stocking stores with anything but the 32gb.
