So the Google store has the Pixel XL as out of stock with no mention of when it'll be back in stock and the only thing you can do is join a "Waitlist".
However for some reason, going through Project Fi, I was able to buy a Pixel XL no problem and was even shipped the next day, but I also had to get Project Fi with it. Now once the phone comes in I should be able to cancel Fi provided I don't insert the Fi Sim Card right?
Pixel XL seems to be in stock if you order through Fi...
Same experience for me. Fi is great ! $$$ back is sweet . . .
Yep. I ordered mine a few weeks ago. The Google store was out of stock and Fi shipped the next day. Replaced my Nexus 6.

Yeah that should work just fine. But I would seriously consider giving Fi a go. I made the switch from Verizon about a year ago when I got the Nexus 6P. I was worried about coverage and losing signal, speed, etc.....but it turned out to be just fine. I l ove only paying for the data that I use. Plus you just can't beat their customer service. Anyway, just IMHO!

I don't mind of giving it a go and I actually plan on trying them out but only in the future. I renewed my contract with Verizon only two months ago, but once that's done I'll definitely try them out and see how they are. Their coverage maps in my area show great coverage so I am sure I won't have problems.
Just keep in mind that if you "finance" through Project Fi then they will send you nasty letters and even bill you in FULL if you don't activate and use the phone on Fi.
I don't know what they do if you stop using Fi after a while.
I guess I'll find out some day.

Oh no, thankfully I didn't go through that route. The phone was paid in full and in regards to Project Fi, they said it won't bill until the SIM is inserted into the phone and activated, meaning if I cancel before that I should have any problems.
I am new to project fi and just completed my first month. I was previously with Sprint. The network is fast, very fast. I used just under 5 gb of data with no tethering. With Sprint, I was always under 2 gb. I'm thinking now that it is because I have virtually no loading problems with videos and the fact that I left google play music going for about six hours after a phone call are the reason my usage is so high. I travel alot for work(truck driver) and have experienced no dropped calls or service and I've went from TX to NC and back. Alot of dead spots on that route with Sprint but have had LTE the whole way. The only problem I encountered was that pictures wouldn't send the first day. That was an easy fix and have been rolling since. I also order from the fi store and got the pixel xl.
I ordered from the Google store and they included a Fi sim.

Wow. . . . My understanding was that financing ( and paying ZERO interest ! ) was one animal in the zoo . . . . But ordering a phone thru 'Project Fi' was a similar but different animal . . . . Are they really one and the same thing ? Does Google present it as being that way ? Or do you find out after you find out ?
I went ahead and chatted into Project Fi customer support.
Names, dates and times have been edited to protect the innocent.
CZ Eddie ------
What happens if I sell my Project Fi "financed" 32GB Pixel XL so I can buy a 128GB Pixel XL?
CZ Eddie ------
Great. This 32GB phone is awful, I'm always running out of space. I contacted Google after having it for three weeks, but they said it was too late to return it and upgrade.
GoogleAgent------
I see. So you are wanting to just sell the phone?
CZ Eddie ------
Unless you want to give me an exception and let me return it to get the 128GB?
CZ Eddie ------
I don't mind paying the extra money of course.
GoogleAgent------
I wish I could, but we don't have an upgrade program.
CZ Eddie ------
I can't stand this one. 32GB on the Pixel isn't as good as 32GB on my older phones.
Okay. So I guess I'm back to selling this one to buy the larger one.
GoogleAgent------
You will have to pay it off and remove it from your account so the person can activate it.
CZ Eddie ------
What if they don't use it on Project Fi?
GoogleAgent------
Let me check.
CZ Eddie ------
Also, while you're researching. I need to know if I can order the 128GB Pixel on the monthly payment. That way I'll already have it when I go to sell the 32GB Pixel.
GoogleAgent------
The 32 GB phone will have to be paid off and removed from your account before it could be activated. The IMEI would show as linked to your account, so they would not be able to use it.
GoogleAgent------
You could go ahead and try to order the new phone if your financing is enough to approve it.
GoogleAgent------
Try going here. http://fi.google.com/buy-devices
***
FYI, Google "Financing" originally approved me for something like $1800.
I still have the balance of that left over after the $769 for the 32GB Pixel XL I bought from them.
I'm going to use it to buy the XL 128GB as soon as it comes back in stock.
Then I'll pay off the 32GB and flip it onto Swappa or Craigslist or something.

Just wondering. Why are so many of you buying from Verizon & BestBuy instead of Google?
You do realize the phones not purchased from Google will have a locked bootloader. So why would you buy from Verizon or BestBuy instead of Google, who has the same price and you can use either phones on Verizon if you so choose to do so.
I don't want to say ya'll are dumb, but I kind of feel this way.
I'm sure there is something I'm missing though, so help me understand please.
Are the payment plan options the same? If so that might be one reason. I have Verizon because that's what my employer (who pays for the phone and the bill) uses.

Believe it or not, not everyone needs a bootloader unlocked these days. My days of tinkering with Android are over as I feel Android is better than ever. It is unfortunate the OP feels that I am dumb because everyone doesn't agree with his way of thinking...
It was also cheaper to purchase from Verizon for a new 2 year cobtract
Sent from my Pixel using XDA-Developers mobile app
I personally ordered mine from Verizon due to my work account, and also don't care about root or unlocked boot loaders since I haven't needed either in several years. That being said I also believe many people have not been buying directly from Google because Google hasn't been able to keep them in stock. Which of course also implies that many people are buying them from Google, lol.
Best Buy is cheaper with a 2 year agreement ($299.99) as well as a 24 month installment ($31 a month), for 32GB version.
Also, best buy is giving a $100 gift card, which you can do whatever you want with. (resell it, use it, etc).
If you are only keeping the phone for two years, and don't care about updates after that, then its probably a better route. After two years, you are SOL for getting an up to date OS.
I had the note 7....the last return I just upgraded to the pixel xl. In exchange So....through Verizon it was.
Its an economic decision for me. In Germany I'll get the Device from T-Mobile Germany for 179€ (around 197 US$) for the renewal of my contract - I think this ist much better than the 1097€ direct from Google. The only downside is that it will have a locked bootloader...I'm still hoping someone finds a way to unlock the bootloaders of the Devices wich doesnt come directly from Google.
I ordered mine from Verizon. I haven't rooted a phone in a long time so locked or unlocked bootloader doesn't really matter for me.

I have my phone rooted for Tasker and Xposed, but the Verizon phone can effectively be considerably cheaper right now.

Best Buy will currently give a $100 gift card if you don't want a new line, a $200 gift card for a new line, another $25 for a sign-up will be available after the pre-order is over, and it can be done with monthly payments to allow porting out or cancelling the line. Verizon has phone trades that total $200-$300, which is done through reduced monthly payments, and my Razr M qualified for $200. Some people have other options on Verizon. Google does not offer similar sort of ways to essentially reduce the phone's cost at this time.

Personally I question the idea of paying iPhone 7 prices, and since I'm not interested in the VR headset, that's basically what initial Google store customers are doing. As much as I like what Tasker can do with root, I'm not sure it's worth giving up automatic updates and effectively spending another $175 that I could have with $225 in Best Buy gift cards. If it turns out that there are limitations on the Verizon phones for anything other than the bootloader unlock, I'll probably change my opinion, but at this time it looks like Google's bottom-line price is considerably higher than what is possible at Verizon.
Purely inventory for me. Google shipments are a month or more out. They won't even take my money to pre-order it. VZW device I can have in 3 days.

Buying it as a contract renewal over Deutsche Telekom is way cheaper for me, especially because I work there and get a monthly discount on the main contract.
I have to 29,95€ monthly instead of 64,95€ and get the Pixel XL 128 GB for 279,95€ on time fee.
But even the phone for my wife is way cheaper. I paid 19,95€ for here family card without a phone before, now we upgraded it to a contract with phone to 29,95€ a month and also 279,95€ for the small Pixel 32 GB.
Yes, I would also love to have a unlockable bootloader and instant updates from Google but after not rooting phones for a couple of years I will get along with it.
I wanted the one from the google store but didn't feel like waiting for it. I would like to have the bootloader unlocked just for the option but i haven't had time or need to mess with rooting and custom roms, so just having pure android is perfect for me. So for me it made sense to just order from Verizon, everyone has different needs or reasons and i would say for 90% of the people buying this phone has no need to ever unlock the bootloader or even know much about that world of roms and rooting. I thinks its a stretch to insinuate people are dumb for having a choice and choosing one over the other

I ordered from Verizon because I was able to trade in an old phone for monthly device credit. It should save me $100-200 depending on how long I stay on Verizon DPP. I preordered one from the Google Play Store as well. I don't plan on opening the box from the play store unless the Verizon model upsets me and needs to be returned.

Whats the point of buying two then? Everything about the Verizon version is the same except for boot loader.....
Buying it directly from Verizon because
1) My job will be paying for it
2) I feel once I have stock Android I don't really need to have root or an unlocked bootloader.
3) Don't have to wait until it comes back in stock via the playstore.
Major discount through employee. 419 vs 869 for xl 128gb and plus availability. Still waiting though as I want to see if anyone cracks that Verizon bootloader within the first month.

I am planning on keeping the Verizon Pixel because it is cheaper for me. As more reviews and info come out that is ACTUALLY reputable, I want to be able to return it to Verizon within the first 2 weeks if I decide there are significant differences between the Verizon version and the Google Play version. If I do that, I want to have the Google Play store Pixel in a box ready for me to switch over. This way I also get to take advantage of the Daydream VR, no matter which device I return.
Since the announcement on October 4th, there has not been any real credible information about the Pixel. Everything has been "so and so said this... Don't buy the Verizon version... etc." Then every Android blog site just blindly regurgitates what was said as if it was real news. NO ONE fact checks. Some CSR at Verizon who doesn't know what a freaking bootloader even is said something, then everyone freaks out and android headlines and forums go crazy. Then someone at Google says something else and everyone takes that as the truth. Does anyone even look at where the info came from? The only group I believe at all at this time is Google Pixel team. If they didn't say it or someone cannot show me in a video with their phone in their hand, I'm not going to believe it.
As long as I am confident that the Verizon pixel will get updates straight from Google when Google promises (just like what I'm used to with Nexus), I don't see a convincing reason not to go with Verizon. I would like the ability to unlock the bootloader so that I can flash the factory images if that promise is not kept. With every new version of Android, I find less need to try custom roms. With what I have seen from 7.1, I don't think I will even have the urge.

I don't think you're dumb at all.
XDA is all about development, I guess I'm still surprised when there are people here who don't care about flashing ROM's or backing up in TWRP and even some who apparently don't care about root any longer.
If I didn't care about flashing ROM's (or root), I'd be on a S7 Edge right now.

So much this right here. They said this about the Verizon N6 also. That everything would be locked down and look what happened. Nothing was locked down at all. I ordered the Verizon Pixel XL because of this also and i dont really need root anymore. If i am able to root its a plus but not a deal breaker for me.

Yes, I also am grumpy and pissed at google for messing up the "orders / pre-orders". Year after year, they keep screwing up on the first step. They "could" have manufactured an extra 50, 000 and it would not have hurt their economics and it would have greatly helped their public image. Did the 'Note 7' burn put a snag in things ?
.
What if the "big and detailed" reviews start coming in and it shows a narley wart about the phone ? ? ? My biggest, desired attribute is the big leap in the camera ( camcorder ? ) area . . .
Has anyone here sold a Pixel that was purchased through Project Fi on monthly payments?
I'm thinking about selling my 32GB and buying the 128GB whenever it becomes available.
Don't want to get suck with a huge payoff bill though, and need to make sure the buyer can use the phone without it being restricted somehow.
I'm assuming I'm good-to-go, but want to make sure.
You will have a hard time finding a buyer for a device that is still under contract.
Hmm, I've sold at least four phones in the past that were under contract.
But this is my first time with Project Fi.
Is it any different than say, AT&T or Verizon?

I'm not familiar with eBay's requirements, but Swappa will not let you list a phone that's under contract.

See 5th bullet point > https://swappa.com/faq/devices/listing_device_criteria
If you pay the phone off then you can sell it on swappa. You just cant owe money on a payment plan is what they list. Pay the phone off then sell it and you will be fine. But honestly not sure how anyone would know if the phone is on a payment plan as I believe someone else can still activate the phone, unless they changed that and will no longer let someone else activate the phone on another account if the original owner is still making payments on it. Originally the phone could be activated and used but if the original owners account went to collection then that phone would get blacklisted with that carrier for nonpayment.
I originally decided I wanted this phone for Christmas, but then I saw it was out of stock. I'm on the wait list, signed up for nowinstock.com to alert me - I've waited a while, and it still isn't restocked. The battery on my 5x is terrible, and i can only use my phone very lightly because of it. Is it worth waiting until the pixel restocks? I really don't want to settle, but I also won't know 100% how good the phone is until I actually buy it. Also, I will not buy it from Verizon (I don't want to be locked down and get bloatware, and I use at&t).
Does anyone know how long until there is a restock? It will take 3-4 weeks to let alone ship, so I wonder how long I'll be waiting to order in the first place. That "out of stock" every time I check is making me hopeless D:
I was in the same boat in November but the wait list never sent me an email. I ended up using nowinstock.com and got a notification from them in a day or 2 and bought one. You have to be Johnny on the spot though, by the time I finished up the checkout process and went back to Google devices site they were sold out again. I never did get an email from Google's wait list.

I never got a waitlist email from google either. But I manually checked daily for about 10 day period in November and finally caught them available. Only took a couple days to ship.
Keep checking, seems like they get restocked periodically.

I use that site too. It's been a long time and still nothing, and it says they last restocked November 30th. That's over a month. I guess it will be a long wait I check daily just in case as well, and nothing.
The Verizon thread says they are finally seeing some deliveries (some had been pre ordered since Oct) . But, I wonder if the Google store has put a little hold on the pixels to play whack a mole with some of the issues.

Well when you order through Verizon, the Pixel XL 128GB (all colors) have a ship date of February 17th, so I guess that means it'll be a while!
You might also keep an eye on Swappa and eBay. That's what I'm doing. I have a 32GB, but may make the switch to a 128GB. Not that I probably need it, since I can backup all my pics and videos at full resolution, but I always have to have the biggest a s best. LOL.
From what I'm told by a very reliable source at Google, they've been feeding Verizon with the bulk of all 2 million Pixels that will/have been manufactured. 128GB NAND is just very hard to source.
If you're paying full retail price, you could check the Fi store. You don't need to activate Fi as long as you pay full price of the phone (otherwise, if you're financing and buy thru Fi, you have to activate within 30 days or else you'll be billed the entire cost of phone).
That's how I got my black 128GB XL. I had been on that waitlist for a while. I think I still am lol and never got an email. But the Fi stock comes and goes certainly more often.

Got my 128gb slate gray from Verizon it's back ordered now but the blue one is shipping right away. The rest are anywhere from Jan 17 to Feb. Hi all,
I ask because there seem to be differences between the features offered. For example, my carrier, Sprint, doesn't support WiFi calling or simultaneous talk/surf on the Pixel 2. They just rolled out "Calling Plus", which supposedly does these things but only very few Sprint locked phones are supported yet. Worse still, I've heard that they'll never support the Pixels that way. This makes me want to switch but I like my cheap unlimited plan.
I've been trying Project Fi. I like it so far (it has those features I mentioned above) but I'm afraid it isn't very cost effective for my wife and I at 9.3gb/month average combined usage on Sprint. Fi isn't too far out of line for us and I like it's features but can we do better?
Do the other carriers support these features? Thanks for any insight on this as I would like to keep my Pixel and not have to switch to a Samsung.
Thanks!
I just switched to tmobile today from Verizon, $80 USD a month for 10gb tether, unlimited text, talk, and data.
I mainly wanted to switch to them for calls and texts over WiFi
Cool, this is exactly what I want to know. Is Sprint the only one that won't support WiFi calling on the Pixel? I'd like to know what T mobile charges for two phones with 10 gb. I'll check it out. Did you get the $325 cash card for bringing your Pixel?
Can I assume you can simultaneously talk/surf? That is supported at Fi but interestingly only when connected to T mobile, not Sprint.
Unlimited TMobile has been my go to for years! Including free international roaming, text & data...
I use total wireless at 60 bucks a month for 2 phones with 8 gig data .. on Verizon antennas.. no calling features, but I've read some people can get the tethering to work.. also FYI my pixel xl2 gets a more consistent signal and data through put than my XL ever dreamed about.. htc dropped the ball with the pixel XL radios. My main reason for this purchase
Thx all. Looks like Project Fi is about the same price as the current T-Mobile deal at our level of usage. The advantage with Fi is that you can choose carrier networks on the fly if one or the other isn't working at the moment. But if we use more data any particular month, it could get expensive. It works the other way too though as you pay for exactly what you use. With T-Mobile, in flight internet and Netflix are solid advantages.

Nope, I got hosed on that deal and was pretty pissed about it. Do the deal was, you had till Nov 2nd to get up the line. I ordered my device on the 6th and received it on the 31st. So I had what? Two days to get in and switch my carrier? And some people that have ordered still havent even gotten theirs because of color choices.
Then again the associate didn't even know they had a promo for the new pixels, and took her twenty minutes to find any information about it. So I'm actually going to do some looking around on the **** I saw online to see if they have end dates.
Verizon has a terrible app that can allow texts over WiFi, it always worked like garbage for me, and like two samjunks and all the iPhones offer wifi calling on vzw. But to me, this might as well mean they don't offer it.
I also wanted to get away from having to use a device that can use cdma, cdma is old, and very much outdated, which only vzw and Sprint use.
So now, even if I descided to get a different phone, it opens up more device choices that I normally wouldn't have since all phones offer gsm support, but not always cdma
Also, if you have two lines on the unlimited all plan that I got, apparently you get a free Netflix account too.
If you're an old fogie like me, you can get 2 lines of unlimited everything on T-Mobile for $60/mo if one of you is 55+. If you know someone 55+ who you could share the plan with, it's a great deal.
Wifi calling and textimg works great for me on Verizon.

If you're an old fogie like me, you can get 2 lines of unlimited everything on T-Mobile for $60/mo if one of you is 55+. If you know someone 55+ who you could share the plan with, it's a great deal.

That's decent. Wonder if it includes tethering.
I just checked, tethering is at 3G speeds.

No, think it's $10/month add-on for 10GB 4g, then throttled.

Tethering is included, but at 3G speeds. You can pay additional for 4G.

Do you happen to have access to one of the Sprint supported phones? With Verizon, I had to setup the WiFi calling on a Verizon branded phone first, set e911 address, and then when I switched my sim back into the pixel XL (og), the WiFi calling options showed up and worked fine.

Same here. I'm not sure what Lawlrus is talking about in regards to wifi calling & texting on Verizon. What he's saying was true a couple years ago, but isn't with any recent phones on Verizon. Seems like his info is out of date. I've been using wifi calling & texting on Verizon for a while now through several phones, including the Pixel XL and Pixel 2 XL. Works great. I'm often in areas with weak signal, and being able to call and text over wifi allows me to put my phone in airplane mode to save on battery life. I've used it while traveling overseas as well.
Ask yourself this though. Is WiFi calling and simultaneously talking and having data really that necessary for you that it would be worth a possible price jump to another carrier? I'm with Sprint an hard actually talk on the phone enough to want or need either of those features.

I was on Verizon for 6 years. I bought the Pixel 2 XL from Google so I decided to try Project Fi. It's ok, but there are too many issues with it that I just can't deal with. Wifi calling on speaker phone echos back the person on the other line to them, Google knows this is an issue with project fi, but can't seem to fix it. Sometime the call doesn't answer when you try and answer the phone, you can't hear the person on the other end. The tower switching just flat out sucks. In places where I get full bars on TMobile (which is like everywhere for me) some times it switches to Sprint which will have little to no service and I will need to force the phone back to TMobile. On my wife's phone which I also put on fi, she would be right next to me and she would be on a different tower. Made no sense. Even restarting the phone it wouldn't switch so we would need to force switch whichever phone was stuck on Sprint. I wanted so much to like project fi, but unfortunately it's just too much of a hassle. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was when I send an mms to someone it compresses the image to just a terrible image the size of a thumbnail. Again this is a known issue on Project fi that other people just deal with. I'm not interested in having a half ass phone carrier just to save some money. I would rather pay a little more for good consistent service.
I am switching to TMobile. I have 2 SIM cards coming. $120 (that includes taxes) per month for 2 lines, unlimited talk text data. Plus you get Netflix for free, so I can cancel my Netflix so I will save there too.

I have asked myself that time and time again. I now do work on a cruise ship and have no cell service but do have blazing wifi. With Sprint, not using an S8 or one of the 3 or so of their other phones that support Calling Plus, I'm completely in the dark for texts and calls for days at a time. These features are semi standard nowadays and are a requirement for me whereas before they we're a convenience. Believe me, I would much rather stay with Sprint.
I am interested in hearing this feedback on TMobile! Thanks everyone, please keep it coming.
One final question I have posed, though it is a little unusual, but I'd like to know if my wife's as yet unactivated, Android One (Project Fi) Moto X4 will work on TMobile as well as my Pixel 2 xl...and have all of the features. ??

This is extremely interesting as both carriers are cdma. I don't have one of those phones. I've been told though, that a phone needs a specific software update to enable calling plus, which makes me doubtful of success.
What about simultaneous talk/surf, @Deuces?

Bummer about your experience with Fi. I don't think I've experienced those things yet. But I'm considering TMobile straight away based on our recent average data usage. We've been on unlimited for years with Sprint so for us to reprogram our habits into the hassle of finding and registering for (sometimes suspect) free WiFi networks feels like too much.
I agree, we just want good consistent service. The only downgrade I can see for us at TMobile with ONE plan would be streaming capped at 480p. Am I right?
Curious, why didn't you go back to Verizon, @tacopimp?
In any case, please let me/us know how it is when you activate your Tmobile SIMS!
Just got a brand new Pixel 3xl today and right out of the box, it does not see my ATT sim. I tried my wife's and sons sim and same thing. How unbelievably disappointing....I still completed setup via wifi and even installed an update and still nothing. Anyone else experience this? Not much when googling. One article back in October but no resolution mentioned other than hopefully an update in the future. All the other articles mentioned issues that were Intermediate. Mine doesn't work at all. I tried reseating sim, restart, resetting network settings and wiping.
Of course when I called Google, they asked about those same troubleshooting and twice wanted to pawn it off on ATT. I was like...."The sims work, I'm calling you on one." The pixel is physically not seeing it. Spent 2 hrs on the phone. Getting a new one supposedly mailed priority. I paid for expedited but they would not offer it for my replacement. I am going out of town for a couple of days next week and wanted it sooner. Honestly, was very let down on how Google handled it.
Mine was DOA when it arrived, wouldn't power on. Took over three weeks to get a new one, they missed the promised ship date and from that point forward they couldn't tell me anything. Then one day it just showed up. Then they screwed me out of a 50 store credit. I hounded them for months, lots more broken promises.
The Google Store is the worst.
Yeah, it's really disappointing. This was my first purchase from them
I generally have always gotten my nexus/pixels via secondhand but decided to take advantage of the BOGO at 50% with a buddy. Really soured the experience. I wasn't expecting the world to fix it, I just wanted them to send me a replacement expedited and then I send the broken one. I was even fine with putting a hold on a card till they recieved the broken one but even that was annoying because the Google financing that I was using to buy the phones wasn't even an option. I had to add another card just for the sole reason to put the hold. They claimed I should be able to use the Google financing and didnt understand why it wasn't there. They said it usually only shows if there enough to float the amount. Told them I definitely had enough room on it. Then they wanted me to conference them with synchrony bank (bank that issues the credit for google) so they could ask them why it wasn't an option on the site.....I was like why would the bank know??? It was very frustrating but I guess hopefully my new one is working.
This bad experience with your Pixel 3 XL regarding the AT&T SIM card it's wrong badly. Can't understand how Google manage the quality control of a brand new Pixel 3 XL, it's an unlock phone and must read an AT&T SIM card. I bought my Pixel 3 XL from a UK retailer, when my phone arrived I took out the AT&T SIM card on my Samsung Note 8 and put it in my new Pixel 3 XL. No problems at all, everything was perfect. I just hope that your phone replacement can read or recognize your AT&T SIM card.

Thanks, I should update. I did get my replacement and it worked immediately. Trade-in process went well and they did give me 50 bucks credit in the store so though bumpy and frustrating in the begining, it worked out. I was honest on my survey and told them I would be glad to talk to someone if they had more questions. Even mentioned in the survey that I didn't blame the individual workers but the system itself seemed anti consumer. Enjoying the new pixel so far. Camera is great.
