Broken Display without physical contact? - Lenovo P2 Questions & Answers

I have had my p2 for about 3 weeks and was quite happy until now.
just out of nowhere i noticed on the bottom right corner of my front display panel that there is a crack.
i investigated around the corners and found that everything else is basically like new, no bump, dent scratch whatsoever, i am also protecting the phone quite much and haven't had any sort of "accident"
there's at least one user in another forum who reports his phone has gotten a cracked display because of sunlight / heat issues, while the weather gets better it hasn't been exposed to any extraordinary direct sunlight, so i am really bothered if this is caused by manfacture / quality issues and i am looking to resolve it with amazon where i got it.
other than that it's fully functional and i am super annoyed to go though the process of getting things worked out / fixed / replaced / returned....
german forum with another guy who has even servere cracked screen due to as he claim temperature differences
https://www.computerbase.de/forum/showthread.php?t=1670399
anyone knows something?

well this is a bit worrying ill try to keep mine out of the direct sun thanks.

I had a nightmare last night that I picked my phone up and the whole screen was completely shattered!

p2 is already on it's way for customer service from amazon, will see what they will do.

I wonder how widespread this problem is. I just ordered a P2 myself & this has me a bit worried. I am dealing with touchscreen issues on my current phone, a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. The upper part of the touchscreen doesn't work at all and the back/home buttons only work if I put the phone in glove mode and press several times. I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on a new phone and the battery life impressed me on the P2. .

Haven't had any issues with my device since purchasing it a month ago.. Would never put any device in direct sunlight no matter which device. Especially if a device has glass on one or both sides. Saw a bend test and this device is really really tough to damage. Plus this device does not heat up since its 10nm Snapdragon Chipset makes it so. If this phone is defective.. then should the P1 and any phone that has all glass or the 2.5 glass shape form. So any one with that problem should contact the proper place where they purchased the device or the Lenovo manufacturer. Only suggestion is to purchase the 'shockproof case' to prevent any stress on the phones surface.
Had an Xperia Z ways back and the power button stopped working.. but it was due to water damage.. even though it is mostly waterproof.. Xperia phones are tough phones too.. and it has glass on both sides.

Worrying indeed, let us know what support says.
I must say the screen on mine has the occasional sensitiviy issue in the bottom part. Not sure if it's due to the "removable" navigation buttons or to the "hardness" of the glass, but it was definitely not like that on my Moto G4.
Also it seems some earlier P2 models had a bottom part that was "sloping" ?

sunlight yea,... i am also not doing that, but for example when i were to use my other phone ( which was about to be replaced with p2 ) in situations like car gps navigation it's facing heavy usage AND is explosed to direct sunlight ( at least the back-side it is ) which makes my phone (honor 7 right now) pretty hot ... and this is just a very normal use case scenario... since the p2 is already received by amazon i cannot try out to see if there is any heat issues like that...

i haven't gotten any email from amazon however in my p2 order it says the device has been received and it'll take 2-3 days until they charge back money. i assume that will happen and i will report back. but there hasn't been any communication on their side.

Yeah sunlight heat is not a devices friend and it can damage for sure if the requirement is met since heat expands. You should be fine, returns take a bit and the return transaction.

doesn't give a p2 back unfortunatly ... well to be honest i had the option to select replacement. but well. this is the very first device i had an display issue so that's that.
on the other hand i was reaaaallly reallly disappointed to see the ultra battery mode switch not being usuable as it disabled accessable app settings (tasker greenify etc pp) and those 14 days unlock being a pain... and no active development for a device "this new" .... being a phone for 230 € new on that deal it was a real bombshell
never say never that's it for the p2 for now, receiving a xiaomi note 4 very soon and will see how that performs

Understandable, am still on Stock Nougat for now. Good luck with the Xiaomi.

I'm just curious but was the phone charging when the crack became apparent?

Returning phone to MPD

After praising the tp2 for nearly two weeks now I have decided I will return it to MPD.
I paid 457 for this phone and I will except nothing less than 100 percent perfection in terms of build quality.
After 2 weeks use I have to following problems:
- The sceen travel before it hits the lcd in the centre of the screen had increased rapidly and I can now notice a significant change between sensitivity at the edges and the centre (about 1-2mm).
- The sliding mechanism has got easier which is good, but the movement of the screen is about 7mm when at full tilt, where as it was minimal at best when I received it.
Im not writing this as a sob story; I have a genuine worry that these could be very common problems and yet im unsure at the chances of returniing it for a replacement - hoping it wont have the same problems
Mine went back I had it one day, They called me when they received it and then acitoned a refund. The Touch Pro 2 is a terrible built device for something that cost's half a grand.
I have gone back to the Touch HD but really miss the keyboard oh well at least my device isn't going to fall apart. My partners device was perfect and now after a month of use it is now wobblying when you touch the screen and slider is so loose.
sorry you need to mail the webshop and wait for your reply sometimes they reply quick other days they take a while to reply. It will get worse get it replaced or refunded is my advice.
had two deviced now and sent both back. i cross my fingers the third onw will be without any isues. think MANY bad manufactured devices are out there
on my 4th so far and not 100% happy, wobble in the screen when tilted. Very bad design from HTC, poor build quality.
wobble in the screen would not be such a big problem for me i never tilit the screen. hope ill get a device with no other problems next time.
i cant understand why they built this useless tilt feature into the slider the slider could be much more "robust" without this tilit mechanism.
Say it ain't so....
How common are these screen issues that you guys are mentioning, the wobble and such? These issues that you folks are bringing up are starting to worry me, and what worries me even more is that some of you went through 3 or 4 of the TP2s already, leading me to believe that these problems are more widespread than I'd like. I've been anticipating this phone's arrival since February and I really hope that these issues aren't so common that it turns the TP2 into a total let-down instead of the great device that all this hype is leading me to believe. If at all possible could you guys please post updates on your situations?
thanks, and I hope all works out well for you guys.
What do you mean by a wobble? Is the screen itself deformed or are the letters/pictures deformed on the display?
Maybe you can post a picture or something?
I hardly ever use the Tilt feature. When I first heard about it I thought it was brilliant, still looks cool, but it isn't comfortable to work with ...
the wobble issue is discussed in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524641
some people are worried about the screen wobbles a little bit when its tilt like in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6A5v-DR1A8
i think this is ok if it is not too much.
BUT i had two devices with a problem similar to this video and thats absolute not ok for me:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BObBGt40hYg
the screen wobble isnt such a big problem for me, it makes it easier to slide out flat.
my problem is with the flex on the touchscreen. it feels like you push down on one plastic layer which then hits the lcd behind, making it less sensitive in the centre than the edges where i dont have this problem.
i think there is nothing to do. this is the "touch" in touch screen. it has to be little bit flexible to react to your input. dont compare it to the iphone thats a nother technique.
or do you mean something else?
Hi lhwparis
real glad you posted those videos of the wobble. I was beginning to think it was something quite serious, but i see that kind of bounce in most tiltable systems. So not so worried now.
Has anyone done a poll yet of how many people have a phone that does this? strange that its not the same with everyones.
what do you mean with "bounce"? video 1 or the beginning of video 2.
i think the wobble when screen is tilt is normal on most phones (only some without wobble) and thats not a great problem. the second video with the gap between the display and the phone in closed position is a realy great problem for me.
yes i did watch both, i guess im refrerring to the wobble, whilst its open.
perhaps the bounce whilst its closed is not so normal, although again im not sure how much of gap would be a source of concern.
I've got to be honest here. I am one of the fussiest people in the world when it comes to gadgets, but I think there is a lot of over-reaction about the "wobble" issue. The mechanism which allows the screen to tilt will have some "play" in it - otherwise you'd never be able to slide the keyboard out. The same "play" is what means that there is a gap between keyboard and screen - and this will be larger on the side nearest the power button, and it will give a little when you push on this side of the device, as the two halves are held together by the hinge at the opposite edge. It's unavoidable - even if your device doesn't do this from new, I can pretty much guarantee that it will do so within a few weeks. If the hinge is actually loose - so the screen doesn't stay put where you leave it, or if the slider mechanism works without you wanting it to, then you have a problem - but small gaps and small amounts of play in the mechanism are not only normal; they are what prevents damage from operating the mechanism.
"Give" near the centre of a large touchscreen is also pretty common - it's difficult to get the touchscreen to lay perfectly flat, as it is only secured at the edges. Again, there will be a degree of variation between samples, but this is another thing that will change with time. It also quite often varies with air pressure - if you take any touchscreen device (other than the iPhone, which uses a different principle) up in an aircraft, the touchscreen will frequently bulge out more from the screen due to the reduced ambient pressure and the small amount of air trapped under the touchscreen.
I really think that some of you are getting a little too over-stressed about this - 99% of these devices are fine. Leaving aside anything else, these will all have been tested in the factory, and mechanical function of the screen hinges and touchscreen will have been tested on every device before it was packed.
still, its disturbing to hear how many people are getting differences in their build quality. perhaps this is why tmobile uk are not going to be launching the device?

The flexibility in the hinge is nothing to do with the resistiveness of the screen. Regardless of the screen, there should not be this amount of flex in the hinge.
what a load a rubbish.............if any of you fusspots owned a tytn 2 you probably would have nightmares. too much fussing over a wobble which is manditory to avoid sudden harsh impacts and decrease tension on the ribbon that goes from the board to the screen. the screen when tiltled was not actually done so we can sit there wobbling it. in fact no one actually needs to wobble the phone. the phone is sturdy when in full tilt then it works. imagine people actually sitting there wobbling the thing. what do you think will happen? it will loosen...........the wobble is not a feature of the phone but for safety and longevity of the moving parts of the phone. if you don't like the phone then don't buy it. if the screen had no wobble i'd be reading whole new thread of how it should. obviously this phone willl not please everyone and so those moaning about wobble should not buy the phone! obviously there will be some faulty handsets but needing 4 handsets should tell you that maybe it ain't the phone but actually you with the issue. it amazes me how people always find one thing negative to focus on but forget all and i mean all the positive aspects of this phone. what wobble?????????? touch HD which i do own has nothing on tp2 so thats a backward step! this is a phone not a tennis racket
no you are right, but the gap has got bigger in the middle since when i first got it, and comparing it to my friends HD the gap is far greater. There is barely any travel when it comes to the edges, and I see no difference of why this couldnt be the same for the centre.

i said that wobble is normal in all posts before but i sent back my two devices because of the issue shown in this video (at the beginning):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BObBGt40hYg
so you want to tell me its normal that i can lift of the screen more than 5mm in closed position?
my friend has a TP2 too and he cant lift of the screen from device and there is nearly no gap!

Good luck..
The screen went really weird on mine, colours all messed up so on. Emailed mpd, which of course they didn't answer in a timely fashion so I phoned them to which they refused to help me over the phone and told me to email.
Half a day later I get a reply refusing to take it back as I've had it for over seven days and to send it to Regeneris or whoever they're called so I did that. The idiots at MPD failed to realise Regeneris wont' repair these phones, and then forward it on to HTC .. which of course it bizarrely taken them three days to do so.
Apparently now HTC have had it a week, and I've been bugged Regeneris every day, and the answer is the same .. "We've not heard anything, but I'll email them again" Either they've not emailed them as promised or HTCs customer service is evern worse than MPDs.
I've now been without my TP2 for over two weeks, with no sign of getting back and needless to say I'm pissed off!

To buy or not to buy

Hi guys,
I have just damaged the screen on my HTC One V, the phone was find and dandy for its day, and I would still be running around with it, if I wasn't concerned that at any point it would implode with a total screen failure. I am currently thinking of getting this phone, and was wondering since you all own it, whether your happy with it, or if you think you should have gotten a different phone?
I;m pretty rough with phones so my main concern is will it stand up to me being a ruffian?
regards to you all

Thanks man, one thing that worries me is the glass front and back, I've seen a lot of iphones with this all smashed, I guess a case is a must. Also I hear a lot of water proof horror stories, but I've read the threads here so am aware. One think I would like to know is how active the development scene is? Are there a lot of developers on board here, and is the community still buzzing? HOV community is gone :'(

this phone has only a few months .. not yet to much developing but it has same specifications like z1 so basicaly almost anything works on z1 compact ..( z1 has active developers)
I don`t have any issue with waterproffing.., i buyed this phone to make pics under water (like pool for exemple) and works great..
and yeah , a good case it`s recomended for this phone, but the aluminium frame it`s very resistant
pewrsonaly i recomended this device for you if you wan a 4.3 inch display.. and it`s not small for you
Sony builds very good quality, durable phones. Aside from the flash bleed I had because of the plastic back (I replaced it with the glass one), it's been a great device thus far. There are some good case options... and those people with shattered I-phones, I would suspect, didn't protect the damn thing.
Mine died of hardware failure, had to be sent for repair 1 month after I bought it.
It's a nice device, but just hope it will never break as Sony's post-sale support is nothing short of appalling. They do not operate the repairs, but rely on a 3rd party in the UK and tracking for mine shows it as pending because the repair centre did not have motherboards in stock so it had to be sourced from abroad. Been in this state for 2 weeks now, and nothing but silence from Sony. Would have appreciated a replacement, like Apple does, but no.. so this is likely the last time I ever buy a Sony.
I've had mine for 3 months and am generally very happy with it. As has been said, it does scratch easily but I did drop it on a tiled floor and a few scratches were the worst of it. It's fast, has an excellent screen, good camera (average in 'Auto' mode) and the waterproofness has been tested successfully !
Battery life was superb but isn't as good with 4.4.2 IMHO - still not bad though. Can get a full day's use and still have 30% left

This was obviously the phone that I really wanted and I totally love it
The perfect "phone" cause I don't consider anything over 4.5" a phone too big for me
You'd better by some screen guard for both front and back, also you could replace the plastic back with a glass one
And waterproof it sure is, as long as it is fresh water and the flaps are properly closed, if used in sea or pool, better wash with clean water later on
Overall a really good phone

The phone performs well but there are some issues, u should be aware of before buying..
Buying sony phones like almost getting lottery.. None knows whatvu will get inside..
1. Some devices are having flash bleed issue
2. There are two dusplay panels, AUO and JDI.. AUO is not as good as JDI
3. Many users are getting touch issues after some days of buying
4. Some members reported water leakage on their device..
But only point 2 and 3 is mostly annoying.. So if these two issues dont bother u, u can buy this phone.. The battery life is really awesome and performance is alsi awesome.. I am happy with this phone.. Just that touch problem making me worried..

See my thread about the touchscreen issues, one of the links in there links to a YouTube video showing the issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770293
Particularly annoying if you use swipe to unlock or swype text as sometimes it can take a few attempts for it to work. If I'd have known about this issue, I'd have waited until it was fixed before buying. Other than that it seems like a good phone, although only had it a week.

Are you sure? Talk online is that a firmware update could fix it. Anyway, the place where I got it from is willing to replace it so hopefully I wont have this issue with the next one. Not holding my breath though as I imagine the replacement will be from the same batch since it's from the same place.

Who is confirming about software update? I must say he does not have enough experience in this regard.. And as I told none knows why this problem happens, this problem can happen again after replacing touch screen.. In my previous micromax, the problem started when I used to plug in and after some days it got worse and the problem started after unplugging too.. Btw I got same problem in my z1c just once when it was plugged in charger..

Xperia XA1 Touch on the edge of display not working properly

I am having touch issue here with Xperia XA1. I bought two phones for me and my gf. Touch on the edges of the phone are not working properly on both phones. Keyboard keys like P and L are unresponsive.
I have seen other people complaining on Sony Forum.
Is anyone here having the same issue?
Thanks.

Not here. The full keyboard works without any trouble. If you enable "show taps" in developer options, you can see if your phone is actually detecting your touch.
It could be a faulty digitizer. Happens with even the best flag ships so it's not impossible.

Hi there. I see that you are using an XA1, can I ask you something? Would you be so kind to share its stock wallpapers from its system files please? I know this is not related to your topic but I'm just so desperate to have them...:crying:
I have no Issues with my touch screen. Although when I bought a new cheap screen protector off ebay I am finding sometimes it becomes "unresponsive" (in the corners the screen protector "lifts up" due to the curved glass of the phone and starts collects dust/grime).
Removing the screen protector fixes the issue. Do you have a screen protector?
Another option would be to go into: Settings - About phone - Diagnostics to test the screen. you can tap/ swipe anywhere on the screen and it will give you feedback on if it registered the tap or not. Lets us know!
I also experienced this issue but after switching from Swiftkey keyboard to G-Board and it seems that the issue went away so I doubt it is a hardware issue.
I'm just going to provide an update and say that now even without the screen protector, this phone doesn't really register my touches at the bottom right hand side of the screen. Especially the letter "p", "l", and the backspace key.
Changing keyboards doesn't seem to fix anything. Not sure if I should request for a new phone, or if it could be software related.
EDIT: It seems to have gotten progressively worse. Now its almost impossible to press the "p", "L" and backspace keys and the touch registers maybe 20% of the time. I'm going to ask for a refund, or a replacement.

That's got to be hardware. I reckon your digitizer is faulty. You should be able to return it to the retailer for a replacement. Or get Sony to do it for free.

I have same problem and go to sony care 3 days. Everything work perfectly
I want to give a summary of my story here.
I bought two xperia xa1 about a month ago. Both phones are having touchscreen issue within a week (edges of the screen are not sensitive). I sent to local service center in Singapore.
Now I have got my phones back. They replaced the screen for both phones and they are working fine so far.
Thanks to Sony, my new phones become refurbished phones just after being bought.
I feel like I bought refurbished phones with premium price.
It appears , there are certain batch of devices which have digitizers issues along edges ....
There are similar complaints on amazon regarding the same.

I thought so. Reading through forums on Sony and other websites and you see quite a few people who have this issue.
I got mine replaced on the spot at the store I bought my phone from. So far no issues. But I keep my fingers crossed.
Sony should address this issue. It might be a cheap phone, but still it's their responsibility and should issue a recall, or a replacement for all phones that have this issue.

This is not the first time ,when a batch of devices faced an issue .AFAIK, Xperia Z has a lot with yellow tint. Also one another phone with really fragile speaker.
This might be issue with one particular batch , which might have escaped while testing.
Or issue with display vendor.
Otherwise a solid device.
You don't have to stick with the keyboard the phone came with also why not use the speech to text function and just talk
Yes. I too had the same issue. Did a screen and touch replacement under warranty. Working well
@ross23 @Ticklefish
What screen protector are you guys using ?
There are some reports about screen protectors interfering with touch.
I am not using any screen protection , just a generic rubber case for impact protection.

You can resize the keyboard to "deal" with the issue. But keep in mind that this touch screen issue affect all other apps too. Games and stuff. I personally don't think it is possible to use a phone with a defecting touch screen for long.

I am currently using the Zuslab 3D curved tempered glass screen protector I bought off ebay.
Its good, it does cover the whole screen, including the curved edges of the phone, however, it only has adhesive around the edges of the screen protector, not in the middle. So the middle of the screen does feel a little "hollow" as it an air bubble and not adhesive.

I'm just using a thin plastic one I bought from Amazon for a couple of bucks. It's really just to provide a bit of scratch protection. I'm using a proper case to protect the actual phone.

Maybe the touch issue is a software problem. A few hours ago someone on gsmarena said the problem was resolved with latest software update! (in the XA1 discussion).

Question Z Fold 3 two issues that I have noticed

Hello Z Fold 3 users,
so I have been playing around with my Fold 3 for a month now and I have noticed two things that are really bothering me:
1) Inner crease bump and strange clicking noise when pressing on it - when touching the inner display crease like 1/3 way up from the bottom there is a visible bump in the inner screen. When I touch it it goes down under the pressure and giving the strange clicking noise like the part of the screen is not properly mounted. Anyone experiencing the same issue ?
2) Recently (like one or 2 days ago) I have noticed that when I am using the inner screen sometimes I have black screen appears for like half of the second and then goes back to normal. I am now trying to replicate the issue on the outer screen just for testing purposes but I think something is wrong with my inner screen. Anyone experiencing the same issue ?
I've had mine for about a month now, and i've noticed the inner crease has become a lot more pronounced. It was hardly there at first but now its really noticeable. I'm still happy with the device though.
I don't know how close your issue is to mine but I had an air bubble along crease and a few days later it got bigger and put pressure on the crease until the crease has a thick solid black line from top to bottom and the right side of inner screen no longer worked.
I managed to get it fixed through warranty by going to a samsung service center but not before the phone rep and store rep try to make it seem like I was responsible for the issue. They ended up repairing it in 3 hours but they did a professional job. I thought the phone was a replacement. Had stickers everywhere like when you first buy it. Would have preferred a replacement so I could avoid waiting but that's what Samsung care plus is for with the $250 deductible.
P.S, if you have care plus and you have an issue that is covered through warranty, don't tell them you have care plus or they'll try to get you to do it through them and they always charge that $250 deductible. Warranty repairs are free
@Sugaaa - I think I will wait for now. I read a lot of posts on reddit and a lot of users reported similar thing as I did (inner crease bumps and clicking sound when pressing, they even contacted Samsung support and they said it is normal since one part of the screen is not attached because of the brushes inside the hinge).
As for the second issue (black outs on the inner screen) - I did not notice it on the outer screen, so probably there is either software issue or (I hope not) the hardware issue with the screen. I will be watching the inner screen and if the issue still persists I will go to the Samsung service center. Unfortunately it is very difficult to replicate this issues since it happens randomly :/
By the way - I can see a lot of users complaining about the Z Fold 3. I had Fold 2 previously and I told myself I would never buy Fold 3 but I did... It is terrible that you buy a phone which costs 2000 dollars and you have a lot of issues with it..
As for the Z Fold 2 I had like 6 or 7 versions from different distributors and they all had loose hinge and crackling hinge noise from the beginning - believe me I could not even use the phone without noticing it so I ended up buying another phone. It seems that Samsung made a hinge in Z Fold 3 a lot stronger but still you have another issues to complain about..

Sounds like a hardware issue if you've already updated software to the latest. Reset the phone, capture video of it while doing it as well as showing it was freshly reset so they don't tell you to reset it to fix the issue, then show them the video. They'll either give you another one or replace the main board on the same day. Since you said it's random, have a camera set up ready to record any time you use the phone like on a desk.
Majority of fold 3 haven't had issues. We're just unlucky. I bought my fold 3 512gb lke new on fb for $950 then got a free warranty repair so can't complain. What I don't like is their reps deciding if phone will be covered under warranty. Lots of people are given a hard time and multiple visits and workarounds to get that free repair or replacement

I got my phone for $850 (no trade in) I just need to stay on my $30 per month phone subscription plan for 21 months. On top of that got freebies and one year free Care+.
I think Samsung just inflated the recommended price and then give huge discount to entice buyer. Samsung never intended to sell the phone at $2000.
Fingers crossed my phone screen can last. Worst case get it replaced using care+.

I think so too. I got a good deal at au$1,300 for the 512 GB model, (us$967, but includes 10% sales tax, so really about us$880) basically half price by trading in my Z Flip. I bought the ZF for au$1, 000 last year, got $1,300 trade-in!
I also got 2 years of care+ at half price. I'm happy to go naked with the confidence that I can get up to two replacements for any reason
Edit: oh yes, a local Aussie retailer was giving away a Samsung tv and ear pods with the Z Flip 3 too. It is definitely overpriced to allow deals that con you into thinking you're getting a bargain. Still happy though!

Not the case, as mine was $1,800. I did get the $200 Samsung credit from their app, but wasn't even told about it until I contacted Samsung chat about a different freebie listed on the site that the QR Code in the phone box goes to. I bought mine from Sprint so I could pay in installments.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 256GB which is less than 4 months old. All of a sudden there is a thick black line anytime I unfold the device on the main screen. The right side of the main screen is also completely unresponsive to touch. The black line is as thick as the fold and does not go away. Main display was completely damaged automatically.
This appears to be a very clear flaw in the device as I've read many other posts regarding the same exact issue. Why is Samsung not taking responsibility for this flaw?

Question Fold 3 Screen cracking

Hey,
I have been a Note fan since the very beginning and a foldable with spen support has been a device of my dreams. When the Fold 3 was released I decided to go for it and give my Note 20 Ultra a break. The fold isn't perfect especially with such a small battery but as an exynos user the battery has always been a thing to compromise in my region. But,
The reports about the screen being so fragile and getting cracked in concerning numbers have halted me from getting this expensive piece of tech. I am aware of the cracking issues with the earlier folds but the reports about this third generation looks really concerning.
Are the cases that high? or is it just the usual (defective patch) in any product?
Think of it this way, no one will post about how their screen is fine and not cracked, but people will be inclined to post when their screen is shattered and broken. If every person with a screen that wasn't cracked would post theirs, it would far surpass the cracked screen numbers. I have had mine since 22nd of October and I have not had one issue, not one cracked screen. I recommend it as it's the best phone 2021 could bring.
Had mine since the early pre-order time. No screen crack or break, but I have a Spigen hard case on it. I've dropped it a few times, but have been uber lucky it wasn't anything that cause damage. One has to look at the cause of the damage before assuming it's a defect of the product.
Not sure what reports you have read, but I've yet to see an influx of cracked screens from general everyday use. Plus, many of use early birds have coverage for damage.
No issues here.
I have to wonder though, if the phone was left in a car overnight with below zero temps and then unfolded cold. What would happen? Has anyone been brave enough to try? ;-)
I have had mine since shortly after release and I use it... and I mean USE it...
I use the outer screen for many quick things, but I spent over 75% of my time opening and using the inner screen. I have a Fold SPen and use it constantly and I am STILL on the original factory inner screen protector and have ZERO issues with any bubbling, cracking or anything else on the device screen or the protector.
Just take some care of your device and it will take care of you.
is there a way to cover the hinges so nothing gets inside? Like some case

There are some cars that specifically cover the hinge I believe. I think Samsung even has their own. But they seem so bulky and awkward.
NONE of the cases that I have seen or used or played with have a Hinge Cover that will protect from Dust/Water intrusion. Just not going to happen. Sorry mate.
I've had my Fold 3 since a couple of days before release day and use the inner screen 99.99% of the time, all day long. No issues here. I clean the dust and fingerprints (which you can barely see and don't cause the rainbow effect) with a reusable screen cloth from Amazon with a koala on it - bought it for my car stereo screen, but there are a ton in the pack, so I use them for different things.
Not only the operation of the phone in cold weather exasperating this issue but maybe also a combination of pressing on the screen with a finger to close the phone..
Plasticisers are a limited lifespan. They are what makes plastics flexible. As they fail, cracking is the result. With a close to a near 180° the engineering is less than brilliant. Made with a very finite lifespan in mind.
The Fold series is an even more niche market than the Notes. Like an inept gambler Samsung don't know when to run away. By shoving the prototype Fold down the throats of its loyal Note customer base Samsung deserves what they get... idiots.
sorry, blackhawk.. do you have one of these?? best phone ever lol.
if the stock protector fail, replacements are easy
Ya been a Note User since the first one .. after going Fold 3 I can never go back... love the screen .. really better battery, cameras, I'd like a micro SD slot again and for thr s pen to go into the phone and it would be perfect...
As for the screen cracking mine has not but the built in screen protector has peeled up so I peeled off ... all good so far.. but if you get this phone usually it's on a 24 month contract then you swap phones to 2 gens later. Also I'd assume everyone would get the insurance for the screen replacement etc... so if that's done you just send it in for any screen issues .

No, blackhawk just likes bagging it as far as I can tell.

I loved the note, from the very first, and my note 12 pro tablet. Now that I'm retired and don't need the spen I love the fold. It's like carrying a tablet in your pocket everywhere.
I can't wait until they actually get the whole 'Z' folding thing working, to triple the size
What I find funny is all the people bagging the idea of the Fold, alongside all the companies trying to make one themselves. I'm pretty sure Apple will sell one in five years, well behind the curve as usual while claiming to be ahead as usual.
Ha ha yes exactly apple will bring a foldable out when samsung goes to the next design for foldable.. I also like that sliding screen they might out put out ... I'd rather the than the folding but for now beggars can't be choosers lol
it's interesting that no one here had a bad experience while a similar thread on reddit is full of (cracked) displays
