Hello everyone,
i recently purchased Mi Max Prime (Helium, 128GB, India). without exploring the phone much, i updated the ROM to v8.2.3 at the first notification i got of update (which was soon after purchasing). since then, facing a myriad of issues:
1. random freezing - this issue was there even prior updating.....the phone would freeze when the OS would ask about app-permissions (to access contacts, photos, etc.); after updating, it has become less pronounced, but seems to have increased in playstore, esp. when attempting to download any app.
2. random shutdown - it would so happen that if i press the power button to turn the screen off, or even if the screen dims off after inactivity, many-a-times the phone would simply shut down. at that time, i have to keep the power button pressed for a longer time to boot the phone, than is normally reqd.
3. apps sometime take long moments to respond. happens sometimes even when flicking homescreens or when in settings.
all these have been happening frequently, making it a frustrating experience.
has anybody faced similar issues? previously i was thinking of taking it to the service centre, but then read some posts here wherein people had written that it ultimately proved futile, and changing the ROM to a custom one would be a better recourse, and that ROMs like PureNexus, RR, etc. are MUCH better than MIUI.
could somebody pls suggest about this?

Offical rom doesn't have any performance issues I think you better take it to service center.
Have the Helium 64GB on the EU rom, do experience some apps taking awhile to respond and on the rear occasion phone froze. But not to the point of it being a bother.

as a prelim measure, seems sensible to take it to the service centre and ask them first. if that doesnt help, will then surely install a custom ROM. am lamenting for not having checked the phone earlier. i got it from amazon but because of some simcard-woes, i delayed testing the phone & had kept using my older phone for some days, and now amazon product-return window is closed. so no alternative other than taking it to the serv centre.

i took the phone to the service centre y'day. the reply i got doesnt exactly bolster confidence in me. i was told that the OS would've to be upgraded as you are facing software-issues. i then told them that i already have the latest global ROM, OS v8.2.3. i was then told that you downloaded it from the 'internet', while we at the service centre currently dont have this version. we'll be getting it in the next week here, & then you bring the phone to us, we'll re-install the said version through OTA, 'properly'.
now am highly wary if that'll help at all. what do you say? should i simply install a custom ROM now, or go there & give what i was told a try?

so as i was expecting, the service centre still havent got the global ROM v8.2.3 with them. wont waste time about this anymore. will test the phone for a day or two come the weekend, and then install a custom ROM. thanks for the replies y'all!

Mimax Helium Random Shutdown at 80+% Battery Charge
My phone shuts down randomly on a full charge and it all began when I sat down with the phone in my back pocket. The case curved and it just began behaving badly.
I bought a new aluminium back from eBay and power button ribbon because it did not power on when pressed many times. This did not help much, but it was cool have a straight shiny new case and fully functioning power button.
Annoyed, I took the phine apart and realized that the battery ribbon was coming loos whenever the phone was bumped ever so slightly because the battery was moving around in the phone. Furthermore, the screws holding the metallic plate over the main board had thread out. Thus, it's was not holding the ribbon in place. Note, you will know that it is a poor battery to main board connection problem if you apply pressure connection and the phone start when the power button is pressed and dies as soon as the pressure is released.
To fixed the threaded out screws, I place a dab of crazy glue into each screw hole. To apply pressure on the battery to main circuit boards ribbon connection, precut a small piece of cardboard and attach it to the back of the battery ribbon where it attached to the main board with a speck of crazy glue to hold it in place. Then quickly replace the metallic plate on to the main board with the screws before the crazy glue in the screw holes dry completely.
To keep the battery from moving around in the phone I placed a speck of glue from my hot glue gun on perimeter of the battery to secure it in place. I then realized assembeled the phone and gave it a full charge.
Realizing that the problem could also be related to an outdated rom, I downloaded the latest rom and flashed it. Then, I came across a firmware update project on xda at https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum....elopment/firmware-xiaomi-mi-max-t3741655/amp/ so I flashed that on to the phone too.
As of this posting, the phone has been running without issue for the past 48hrs. Hope this helps, because I was actually dreaming about smashing this phone with a hammer. Now I love it again ?

If I leave my phone on and come back to in about an hour it becomes unresponsive. The screen is won't come on, usb won't work and the power button doesn't work as well, but the lights still flash. All I can do is take the battery out and turn it on again.
At first i thought the keypad must have been getting disabled after a certain amount of time for some reason, but since the usb the connection alos dies when it's idle it must be something else.
I've been having this problem for awhile now. It first it started every once and awhile, but now it's getting to the point that I have to reset it every hour or so.
I just upgraded my ROM to Kavana 080408, but I've had this problem running the T-mobile WM6 ROM as well, therefore I'm guessing it's a hardware issue?
Any thoughts, questions, or help is greatly appriciated!
call tmobile and ask them to send you a new phone... its hardware issues...
Thank you. Err.. the only thing I haven't mentioned (for lack of mistaking the problem) is that just 3 days ago I dropped my phone outside and it rained the next morning. When I recovered the phone it was soaked.. I let it dry out and it worked again.
I think the incedent had to have been irrelevant, because I have been having this problem for about 8 months regaurdless, just not as severe.
Would T-mobile be able to know it got wet at some point and not exchange it because they'd assume the problem was due to water damage?
Well if you look under the battery to the right where the sim card goes, there is a litmus paper that turns purple/pink when wet and its white originally. I would just remove the paper if it is purple/pink and try to cut and glue a white piece of paper the same size. And then I would call them and tell them.

Thanks, but hmm.. how exact should this be? I was thinking about going to the fish store and buying some test strips and using those. Then i was thinking about thinning out some glue and using that to stick it. Does this sound good? I'll post how it goes.
Dash Arrived then Died
I just got my dash about two weeks ago. Before I could start finding my way around, it began acting strangely. It would not respond and sometimes suddenly cut off on it's on. Then it got to the point where it would not turn on right away. I would have to play with it (battery and SIM removal) and then it might turn on. I thought I was using the power button incorrectly.
Finally, the dash would not turn on at all. Since it was new and insured I requested a replacement. T-Mobile insisted that I test it with a alternate battery (I had a charger stand + battery on order but it had not arrived yet.) Since it would still not turn on via USB or power adapter (no charging lights either) I was certain it was not the battery. After arguing with a T-Mobile Rep and Supervisor I finally decided to lie (er um exaggerate) and tell them I had tested an alternate battery.
Before the new phone arrived the charger and spare battery arrived. I tried both batteries in the new phone with no problems.
You may want to try and get a new phone but the T-Mo rep definitely asked me the color of the paper strip inside the battery housing. My rep told me that it would change color if the LCD was damaged or cracked but I checked another phone (Samsung T409 and Motorola V188) and based on the locations of the strips I would assume it's a water damage test strip.
You may also want to see it you can remove a strip from an older phone.

Don't know if anyone else is experiencing this with their Play but as of a week or two ago the backlight started acting strange. The backlight will randomly stay off when I push the power button with the slider gamepad closed. Only way to make it come on is to pop out the slider. It seems to be random, and if I push on the slider edge slightly with my thumb with the slider closed the backlight randomly flickers, ranging from slight to severe.
The display is still working despite the backlight issues, I can open apps, and use the phone normally but the backlight flickers on and off. Makes it especially hard to use the phone in the dark.
Phone has never been dropped once.
I've replicated this problem with a variety of roms, both custom and stock. It's definitely not app related or even custom kernel related. It happens on a fresh wipe with stock rom with stock kernel. It happens on CM7 with custom kernel.
I'm curious if anybody else is experiencing this. It would tell me if it's just an isolated incident or if others are having this problem.
Sounds like a faulty connection to the backlight to me.
I had the same problem 2 days ago. Then I couldn't get my phone screen on at all!
I sent my phone back to Sony, even thought I bought it second hand. Phoned them up and talked to them. They asked what time of year I bought it so I said around August and then they gave me the address to send it to. Now I'm just waiting to see what happens next.
If your going to send your phone to Sony for repair then make sure you put the fresh firmware back on and un-root your phone as that breaks the warranty (unless they don't know about it)

Sounds like a faulty ribbon cable to me. (cable that connects the screen to the rest of the phone)
You wouldn't need to drop it for that to go bad, It could just be a case of opening and closing the gamepad or lot.
Yeah good thoughts, most likely the ribbon. That really sucks because I've only had the phone for 7 months, and I've taken excellent care of it. Sounds like a major design oversight.
Mine is probably near complete failure at this point. It's taking a lot more effort to keep the screen on now. Fearing soon it won't work at all.
In hopes that this might help someone else down the line, I was able to fix my problem. Yesterday the screen pretty much quit and I had no choice but to try and solve it myself or buy a new phone.

You'll need a torx T5 tool to pull out all the screws but they are cheap.
Underneath the phone and jammed into the screen ribbon was a rather thick hair just hanging out. Somehow it buried itself in there. I removed it, unplugged and replugged the screen ribbon and cleaned the dusty inside with a q-tip and reassembled it all together.
It works fine now, so hopefully this helps someone else avoid having to pony up for a new phone. For those under warranty probably best to send back but for those like me with no warranty it's worth the shot.
Hi everyone, so my Power/Lock button on my Gnex came unresponsive as of last night.
When i woke up this morning it worked! but only once , then randomly it just started working again, and then 10 minutes later nothing.
When i pull the battery, and put it back in it will power on immediately.
At the moment, if i press it, it will work once, then wont work again for another minute or so.
I'm running a custom rom, i did a reset, cleared all my data and it still persists. Running CNA, was thinking of trying to flash back to Stock but the custom rom allows the option to wake the device with the volume buttons, which is the only reason i can even wake it at the moment.
Its still under warranty, however i would go a atleast 2-4 weeks without seeing the phone and have to send it away.
I was thinking of opening it up myself (following the dissasembly videos on youtube, only need to remove 6 screws and use the little plastic pryer to seperate from the screen i think.)
Heres pretty much my question:
With the Galaxy Nexus, is there some sort of sticker that will be broken once i open up the phone that will void the warranty? If i can't fix it, will they know that its been opened?
If not, i'm going to open it up, see if the connector has come loose or something which is what i hope, otherwise for $5 i can get a replacement button & ribbon off ebay, which i would prefer to do then go through the hassle of sending away for warranty.
EDIT: Also think the reason the connector has become faulty is due to water, it was raining last night and was using my phone as a flashlight to walk up the backyard of my house. It got exposed to the rain, Everything was fine, but when i plugged my phone into the charger was when the button stopped responding. I'm guessing some water must have got into where the power button is.

I was gonna suggest the ifixit or adam outler's vids as to if there will be signs its been opened, but it seems you've already watched those videos.. supposedly the led will be lit red if there is a more serious internal water damage issue, which would completely void your warranty, i believe, so it seems like you may have to tear it down.
I've been using my s4 for about 10 days. everything's fine but it has happened like 3 times the phone just shut off itself without me touching it. it's in my pocket, and i was using it like 5mins ago, then when i take it out i found it's totally off already.
the battery had enough juice at the time and the phone didn't feel too warm either. i totally have no clue why this happened. anyone here is experiencing the same thing with your s4? :crying:
for the first two time i can just press and hold the power button to turn it back on. but today when it happened the third time, the press and hold didn't work until i took out the battery and put it back. when it's on, the battery still had like 70% power.
this is frustrating... should i contact t-mobile for an exchange?
p.s. i rooted the phone and from what i can recall, besides titanium backup i didn't install any new app that i didn't have on my old htc sensation. the sensation didn't have this random shutting down problem. (i don't think the titanium caused either).
It used to happen on my s2. But I change roms and it went away.
Change rom and see what happens.
If possiible go full stock for few days.
Otherwise return it.

I actually have a problem when I'm on the Internet or doing other things. My phone just got stock on a blue screen and I can't do anything to get out of it. I hav3 to turn off my phone in order to ho back . It happens to me like 8 times since I got the phone im frustrating

i didn't install the adobe flash player, nor did i install a different rom. everything is stock. i fully factory reset the phone once and after that i even didn't disable or delete any bloat ware. but the random shutting down still happens... annoying

Mine has done the same thing twice, first time assumed it was me (before the latest firmware upgrade which "improves stability") the second time it was in my pocket, took it out and it was off - thought battery was dead but tried to switch it on anyway and guess what, battery was 90%+
Have no idea why it shut off - stock rom, only "odd" app is Good for enterprise .
Could it be related to overheating in the pocket?
Anyone got any ideas?

Happen to me and to some other Italian guys, too! In my case, the I9500 turn off itself, sometimes reboot itself, just now! Depends from the rom, I don't know why. One rom reboot it, try another rom and after a bit of second shutdown it. And always after tha the display go off
I9505 not, it had only the problem of the audio crackle, for now.

I am having an i9500 (octa core version) and running United Arab Emirates 2013 June 4.2.2 I9500XXUBMEA I9500OJVBMEA firmware (stock , no root) , frequently when the phone is locked it will shut down on it's own and I have to keep the power button held a bit longer than usual for it to start (like 20 seconds) , I do not want to root it because the company I bought it from is not that...good....so I am very afraid of sending it to their service department , please , any info/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

It's a firmware issue as far as I could tell Good luck finding a good one , I gave up and traded my i9500 for a i9505.
I found out that if i put my phone in the loader it shuts off... Maybe battery problem..

Ok so i may have isolated the cause. at least a physical one. I am an electrician, and i do a LOT of repetitive tasks so i love listening to music while i work. thats when i noticed a pattern to the problem. and this will blow your mind.
( I do not recommend you try this yourself unless you particularily like the sound of 700$ going SNAP)
i took my phone out of my pocket, and by pressing both thumbs on the center of the screen and physicaly bending the phone forward, ( Dont give me crap for this, im smarter than most and i understand limitations. I was impressed that this phone can bend nearly a full 1/8th of an inch!) i was able to replicate the problem.
My theory is, since samsung used a softer plastic for there entire frame, and since the phone is so thin, when ever id bend down, (Pulling pants tighter across my thigh with the phone facing my leg) it would bend and physicaly seperate the metal pins that contact the battery.
PS: just got home, DGAF about spelling right now. is it this hot for anyone else right now!? lol

I've been running the GT-I9505G play edition phone for the last month and only in the last week has the phone began to reboot on its own. What's strange about it is it usually happens when I'm not using the phone. I've seen it reboot maybe a dozen times over the last week. The phone always reboots and doesn't just turn off.
I'm going to see if factory reset takes care of the problem, if not I guess back to Google for a retread...

Yes I do a lot of bending down and I always have my body in awkward angles while working on the flight line and I used to have the same exact problem at work. I always thought that my S4's shutting off was due to the tiny half a mm gap between the bottom of my 7500mAh ZeroLemon Extended Battery and the bottom of the phone's battery slot, in-turn causing the battery to move inside my S4 and make the battery disconnect from the pins. I noticed a tiny gap in the fitting of the battery to the phone and that the battery was never really snug as much as it was with the 3500mAh Anker Extended Battery for my S3; it's really easy to remove the ZeroLemon battery and thought the battery shouldn't be easy to remove.
So I figured it was either the gap causing it to shut off or my movements somehow causing the power button to be pushed while it was in my pocket. I had a feeling it couldn't be the latter though because the thigh-located cargo/map pockets of my ABU's are a bit too large to not have enough room in the pocket for the power button to be pushed. I ended up solving my shutting off problem by cutting a very small piece of thick, durable paper the length of the S4's battery slot and I used the paper as a shim between the bottom edge of the ZeroLemon battery and my S4's battery slot to close the miniscule gap. Since I did used a thick piece of paper as a shim, I've yet to get any sudden shut-off's... even with the amount of times I bend down and move in ways that would cause it to shut off.

I just recently have same issues, it is turning off while the battery is not dead! i have tries to reset the factory setting but it dose not help at all.
what frustrated that Samsung mobile costumer services in UK is not helping much!!!

if your phone shuts off and than you try to restart it and the battery is a lot lower than before than your battery is broken
I get exactly what you describe, only takes a slight bend to shutdown. doesn't do it with the back cover off, without the cover the battery moves out slightly and the phone stays on.

I have a problem with my G3 as described in the tittle, I did the Paper trick I saw on YouTube but sadly it didn't work
After a while I found out that placing a piece cut from Credit card under the CPU might work and I did , but one week later I had the same problem, likely I can just click sleep button and it returns to normal
After these many problems I decided to give up on it and sell it, but I need a permanent Fix so I don't get involved in Cheating
Also , does replacing motherboard will fix the issue ?
Does G4 Worth it now ? I know about bootloop problem

When my G3 finally died (digitizer went bad), I just replaced it with a used G4 for $150. That was like 6 months ago. The phone has been phenomenal. I know there is many who say that every G4 will bootloop eventually, but I really don't see how thats possible if you just browse google for the issue. Yeah, a lot of people had the problem, but if everyone did you wouldn't see the G4 still being sold at a ton of outlets, and you would see hundreds of links to the issue. I think there was a large batch of them that were bad... and they got past QC, but the vast majority of them are probably fine.

Replacing the Motherboard will fix the issue ?
Yea, i saw "1 month/year after" Reviews on youtube and no one montion the bootloop issue, people ask them in comments and they reply that the phone works normal with no issues

I was skeptical at first, but by baking the motherboard in the oven did the trick for me. It has been a couple of hours now an no flickering, no black screen and no troubles. And i know i'm asking for Murphy to come and bite my as*, but as a little trick, i'd like to suggest before putting the mobo in the oven to try something: i have an old Akasa X4 cpu cooler which has metal fins which are removable. I took one of those things and cut a square a little bit smaller than the power IC to the right of the SoC and then cut another one the exact same size then stacked the two one on top of each other, making sure to not short any capacitor around the IC and then put the metal shield back, making sure to put pressure on the IC. Then preheated the oven at roughly 180 degrees celsius, then put the motherboard SoC face up into the preheated oven on three balls of aluminium foil, one at the bottom near the micro usb, and the others to balance the motherboard, like a BMW Isetta, and put the timer for 10 minutes. After these nervous 10 minutes, I took out the mobo and let it to cool at room temperature for ~30 minutes. And voila, now it works. I do hope that it is going to last, and i will be very careful with this phone, unlike the previous owner. Seriously, how can you put a freaking button (small one, from a shirt) between the SoC and the mid-frame? Crazy. And that's why i got it for ~8000 JPY (about 70 bucks).

After a while I found out that placing a piece cut from Credit card under the CPU might work and I did , but one week later I had the same problem, likely I can just click sleep button and it returns to normal
After these many problems I decided to give up on it and sell it, but I need a permanent Fix so I don't get involved in Cheating
Also , does replacing motherboard will fix the issue ?
Does G4 Worth it now ? I know about bootloop problem

I had a similar problem for about two months. I tried the paper thing over the camera sensor and I felt like it helped some but the problem still continued. The screen would just slowly go dark with vertical lines running through it. All apps would still work in the background while this was happening. I could boot to TWRP and this problem never happened while in TWRP which was odd. Seemed like if it was a screen issues or hardware malfunction it would happen all the time. That's when I decided to just flash back to stock. I was thinking about getting the S8 anyways so what the hell. I flashed to stock 10B and took every single OTA. Took all night but I've been running stock for over a day now and the issue has not replicated itself one time since reverting back to stock. I was on RR Nougat and Fulmics when it happened prior. Has to be a root or Rom issue?

Just wondering if your G3 is still functioning without the issue.
It really feels like a hardware issue but as you pointed out it didn't happen in TWRP... but like many, I encounter the issue when the phone gets a bit warm (>35C), so maybe TWRP and your stock android is not as hot as RR Nougat? Then again, I'm on MM when this happened...
Update: Actually the flicker n fade happened to me in TWRP while I was backing up. The temperature read about 60C.
I had bigger problems with my g3 and they started as follows
Problem 1. camera not being detected and crashing. 2. Reboot once a while which got worse over time. 3. Bluetooth sketchy and WiFi not connecting. 4. Sd card being ejected and mounted constantly. 5. Mobile data stopped working.
Solution: baked it in the oven 10min with cpu side up at 185c removed to cool 4 30min. Problems gone for the meantime.
This morning at work my D852 died with the exact same screen fades to black and would only stay on for at most like 10 seconds and would only come on again after the processor cooled enough. I came across this youtube video.

Since I didn't have any copper foil tape, I substituted with Aluminum foil tape and placed the tape in the same places as detailed in the video. (copper works better than aluminum for heat dispersal)
My phone is now back to normal and hasn't shown any issues with the past 5 hours since I applied the fix.
UPDATE: My phone has worked perfectly for several days now until I turned on the GPS from Cell Tower to High Accuracy and it immediately started to die again. Once it cooled down I was able to get to the settings screen to turn off GPS and it went back to functioning like normal
How to fix
I tried the paper trick and it did not work. No need to replace the motherboard or the phone. The issue is just a bad connection between the motherboard to the LCD display.. Probably due to dirt (in my case, I found that quite a few places in my motherboard had corrosion buildup). Here is the fix...
1. Remove battery cover and Unscrew The back plastic from the base of the phone to get to the motherboard.
2. Disconnect all the connectors from the motherboard.
3. Scan the motherboard for anything unusual. (My motherboard had corrosion on several different places).
5. Clean any dirt or corrosion with lint-free cloth. (I didn't have one so I had to use a Q-tip).
*if needed, Dip the cloth in rubbing alcohol to assist in cleaning. make sure that the cloth is JUST BARELY Damp and not dripping, otherwise you will risk water-damaging the phone. If you use rubbing alcohol, make sure that you dry the spot right after you wipe it.
6. Once you have cleaned the motherboard, check the base of the phone and clean any dirt from here also.
7. Replace the motherboard, re-connect the connections, screw on the back, and put the battery cover back on.
Viola! Mine has been working like new for 4 days so far with no issues...

So a permanent fix is a new motherboard or a new screen?
