UAG Monarch worth the money? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Accessories

Has anyone got the UAG Monarch case for the S8 Plus? Is it worthy of the price? Is the drop protection really that good? Any downsides? Thanks

personal reference.
Yes, It's worth it.
Very Premium looking without the bulk and over priced sticky plastic like other Brand "otter whatever b0x".
When you have it in your hand, make you feel like climb mountains or hike some trails. ^_~
Protection is real good, haven't tested myself, but I feel like it will stand up against my daily oops, but have not yet slipped.
I Have their other style case the "plasma series" for a while and them when through some beating and came out the winner.
Felt down a 6 flight of stairs like it didn't happen. dog chew on it and slid on some pebbles ground, case side with just some scuffs in the case. And this Monarch is, even more, protections, so I say Yes, drop test certified.
And "10 years warranty, what other cases have it? Not that anyone will ever need it, who uses a smartphone more than 10yrs, right.
Works with lots of case friendly GlassSP.
Downside,? to me, NON.
Because it's just what I expect my case to be like. Protection, looks, mini bulk.
But for most People who like to show off the beautiful backside of their Gorgeous phone. Then this is not the right case.
I think the time looking for cases are over for me.
UAG Monchach will be on every one of my phones.

I love it. I'm not about to test the drop protection, but I had a UAG case on my S4 and it served me quite well. Considering that a comparable otter box is 50 bucks, I felt like this was worth it.

I have had bad luck with this brand. Owned three for different tablets and all of them had faults. Not used on on a mobile though as for me they look just too industrial given the S8+ is such an elegant mobile I feel this case is just OTT. It will, or should, protect the mobile BUT many cases do and do so looking much more in line with the aesthetic of this beautiful looking mobile.
I totally accept its a preference and respect those that do use this brand. One last point they are truly hideously priced in Europe. The last UAG case I bought was for the Surface Pro 4. Cost me 70€! Developed a fault so went back for a full refund. I understand the case for the S8+ is 50€!

You say industrial, I say rugged. I've always liked the look of these cases. Imo it turns an elegant phone into a rugged phone when needed. There aren't very phone cases that are this minimal but still leaves your phone feeling protected.

Thanks for the replies! Yes they are £50 in the UK which is about 59 euros. Everything is really expensive here, now. Just need to find the Monarch in stock now.

Ever since having phones that UAG didn't support I started using cases from Supcase and have never went back to UAG's overpriced cases. They literally use the same materials and the protection is equal, but at 1/5th the price and fast shipping through Amazon. I also think their cases look better IMO. Save your money and try out a Supcase and if you don't like it send it back.

I've got some protectors that will do the job for now. They are very thin and quite soft TPU, not the most protective but they can be trimmed if needed so are ok with cases :good:

Same here. After using UAG and Otter, the Supcase Unicorn Beetle is my goto now. I mean a 10yr warranty is great but whose going to have the same mobile in 10yrs? I tried the Spigen Tough Armor and it didnt feel like it held the phone well, and didnt give enough lift to the phone screen off my desktop to make me comfortable. The Supcase is well worth the price so far. Considering its $18 US, with the belt clip. Its survived 2 falls so far no damage :good:

To me it is. I have 10 cases for my S8+ and I use it the most.

My Otterbox Commuter Review

Price: To be honest i wouldnt mind paying the price that Radioshack and other electronic stores sell it for, but you can get the same thing cheaper on ebay, the one i bought was here http://www.ebay.com/itm/140627305695#ht_8310wt_1396
First Thoughts: When i opened it it had the two layer case (silicone under case, and plastic over case) along with a screen protector. Its a nice touch on how the semi gloss hard case works with the matte silicone case
Review:Overall i love it, i would be willing to buy it for $30 like most places sell it for, and buy a otterbox for any other smartphone i get. At first it looks chunky until you hold it and try it out, it has a nice feel and when youre holding it you really arent afraid to drop it. It looks sleek alond with nice texture and grip, the buttons are easily accessible and no problem clicking them, all the extra ports are covered with flaps that you can easily open if you need it. It slides easily into my back and front pocked without a problem.
Price: 8 out of 10
Reason for this rating:Overall the pricing isnt bad, for the way this commuter series is made they could go slightly cheaper, but, i will be willing to pay its stock 30
Feel: 10 out of 10
Reason for this rating: Overall its a great case, rugged, sleek, easily accessible buttons, and extremely nice feel too it
Look: 9 out of 10
Reason for this rating: Overall it might look chunky but when your holding it, the case feels nice, personally when im holding it i really have no fear of doping it at all
Overall: 9 out of 10
can you post your MT4G picture?
Thanks for the review, it was helpful, pictures would help though since the ebay pics aren't great.
Otterbox is a nice cover for the MT4G! I would recommend this case! Looks good in my opinion!

Here's a review (with pics) I wrote a while back on OMG!Droid
http://omgdroid.com/product-review-otterbox-commuter-case-mt4g/
Been loving this case ever since I got it.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Best case I have ever had love it. I dropped ghat phone so.many times
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
After trying a few cases, this was easily my favorite as well.
The price of the case is a small investment to protect the phone. I'm gonna buy this OtterBox Commuter case next paycheck. Great thread, thanks!!
Yes! I freaking love the Otter Box for mt4g. Super good feel and I've dropped my phone a couple of times and knowing that I have the otter box isn't much of a worry anymore. Definitely recommend getting it.
Wow, i've been looking for a review of the commuter case for a while. I'm seriously debating on buying right now. I hate not having a case on my phone, i feel vulnerable.

Otterbox Defender vs. Case Mate Glam vs. SGP Folio

These are my selection or these are the only galaxy s3 cases that I can find.
http://www.otterbox.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S3-Defender-Series/SAM2-GALAXY-S3,default,pd.html
I know that Otterbox is well known for cases, but their cases are too bulky.
http://www.case-mate.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-Cases/Case-Mate-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-Glam-Cases.asp
Case mate case has a nice design, but it doesn't seem like it covers the edge of the front.
http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/samsung/galaxy-s3/samsung-galaxy-s3-leather-case-folio-series.html
Nice covering the front side, but not sure if I want the case covers both front and back.
Please pick one or reply other choices.
paying $40 for cases that make the phone look ugly.
Geesh, get the one that meets your needs. You could as well have asked us if you should buy a car, a bike or a helicopter. The cases you listed are completely different in what they are made for. (one for abuse, one for looks, one for versatility)
Skickat från min GT-I9300 via Tapatalk 2
I would check out otterbox's commuter series. Not as bullet proof as the defender but it has a slimmer profile. I had one on my gs1 and dropped it all the time without any repercussions.
i prefer the sgp or otterbox.

There are people like me who care about what their phone can do, but the looks, not so much. Not that most people will pay the 40 and up MSRP on some of these cases as they can usually be had in the mid 20s price point for careful shoppers. If you are as hard on phones as I am thats 20 odd bucks well spent.
To the OP, as stated above these cases are not even designed with the same purpose in mind, it would be easier to get good suggestions if you stated what it is you are wanting to get out of your case.

RINGKE Slim Vs. SPIGEN Ultra Fit (Pictures inside)

So.. I have tried my very best to search if anyone is talking about this in any other thread but can't find nothing on it.
I have the Nexus 4 version of the case and it has done me very well! Although about 10 days ago I broke it cause I always pop it on and off while bored.
The only other case that can compete with this (slimness wise) is the Slim SPIGEN Case.
I don't understand how there isnt a thread on this case nor is there any discussion on it! What gives?
What's your opinions on it? Which one would you choose out the two?
$5.99 RINGKE: http://www.amazon.com/RELEASE-PERFE...qid=1383319011&sr=1-2&keywords=ringke+nexus+5
$ 9.99 SPIGEN: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EV8Y50S/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Personally I'm going towards the Ringke case... its cheaper, thinner and looks a little better.
Maybe I'll be swayed towards the Spegen case from you guys!
EDIT/ UPDATE-
Finally got both cases and two phones to compare the two side by side.
After using both of them for a little bit I have decided the Ringke is the better case.
Reasons: Slimmer, covers the phone more, does not have an air gap on the back (you can press the SPIGEN on the back and it will move)
I had to sand both of them down to get rid of the ruff parts.
These super thin cases are way less popular (especially with the younger crowd) than the flashy "hybrid-like" cases that offer more protection and bling. This was the case with the GS4 as well (take a look at those forums).
I personally love the uber thin cases that offer only scratch resistance (and maybe a little drop-proof-ability) but are like having nothing on the phone and not adding to it's bulk. I have the Ringke slim for my GS4 and on the delivery truck a Ringke slim in transit for my N5.
I was very disappointed with the Spigen neo-hybrid for the GS4 and sold it immediately.
The Ringke slim on the other hand is super solid and more professional looking (if you want to call it that ).
I'm sure the Spigen Ultra Fit (Slim) would be very comparable to the Ringke, it looks almost identical in pics and specs
Glad someone brought this up too. I was looking at these two as well and this is something funny i noticed.
the size comparisons between the two are not consistent. SPIGEN reports a .3mm thicker phone but otherwise its the same size.
I'm leaning toward the RINGKE as well. cheaper if i ordered two of those with shipping than to order 2 of the Spigen and get something else for 1.02$ to hit the free shipping mark at 25.

Why exactly were you disappointed with the Neo Hybrid for S4? I had my eyes on the Champagne Gold Neo Hybrid for N5.
I'm personally not a fan of the Slim series as it doesn't offer protection for the top and bottom of the device. Whereas, the Galaxy Nexus Slim it covered the whole phone 360 and kept its slim factor.

I totally understand about the protection the slim series cases don't offer. It's all about preference indeed.
That said, I didn't like the neo-hybrid because it felt like a gimmick (if that makes sense). In other words it felt and looked like they made a case to just look "cool" rather than making a case to form fit a phone. It does offer more protection than the slim fit cases though. It was also too "square" looking for me once on the phone. Made the GS4 look iPhone-ish to my eyes.
Funny thing though....I sold it to my 17 yr old nephew (well it was free but he paid shipping) and he thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. :good:

I like the slimness but the top/bottom exposed is a no-no for me. I really wonder why they decided to go with that design. This is the Galaxy Nexus Slim I was referring to http://www.rearthusa.com/sprint_verizon_galaxy_nexus_slim.html slim factor and top/bottom protected.
Hmm, I guess that is true with the Champagne Gold. I just like the mixture between the two colors. So more or less its just aesthetics/appearances on your part but nothing of the case. I was just reading that the older versions of it have had peoples' outer part of the case to crack. Which was the same case for me when I had the official LG bumper for N4 so that was definitely worrisome.
Haha, I think its a pretty neat case too. Looks nice.

Yup, ya never know when the N5 might take a tumble to the pavement and land on the top/bottom or the screen (ouch)!
Oh I think the neo-hybrid looks great in a picture that's why I ordered it. On my GS4 was a different story. The plastic piece on mine felt like it would break very easily, but I don't know which version I had.
Go for it get what ya want. You can always return it and they're so cheap nowadays you don't really miss out on much by doing so

They're so cheap that its not even worth sending it back with the shipping fee.. plus I'm lazy Neo Hybrid is actually ~$19.99 as of right now.
Can't wait for the accessory party to finally begin and a bunch of nexus 5 videos of accessory unboxing/reviews to appear. It will make our jobs a lot easier.
Its kind of funny seeing Rearth and Spigen practically offer the same case and design and names. Slim/Hybrid, what is up with that anyway?

Only problem I have with these cases is that when I always use one I notice that they tend to scratch your phone with the way they snap on.

I thought about that too when I first ordered the Ringke slim. To my delight there is not one scratch on my GS4 (had since launch) caused from the case and I've taken it on and off over a dozen times.
Edit: I will say however, that the case is tough to get off! It's snaps on easily and extremely secure
I like to wash them every week
Yeah I had one on my N4 and went to take it off (like to get the lint off every once and a while) and it scuffed one of the corners. Most people wouldn't notice but it threw my ocd into over drive aft err that lol.

Yeah exactly why I stopped using cases. I never liked cases, prefer naked. But got the slim ringke for my gnex a couple years ago. Loved the slimness but ended up scratching my phone.
I pop my case on and off all the time and it has never scratched my N4. Maybe its just the N4 that doesn't scratch.
The reason I like these slim cases is because it does add much bulk and it keeps the design of the phone some what. I'm the kind of person that has never dropped their phone on a hard surface. Worst surface iv dropped it on is carpet which was from my lap.
I'm thinking of buying both now cause I can't make my mind up at all!

Lol I was a accessory crazy guy in N4. Trying to make my first purchase the most satisfied one and stick with it im leaning towards the Neo Hybrid

Really like the s4 case but certainly not for someone that drops their phone all the time.

just ordered the spigen ultra fit soft matte white for my black nexus 5
i hate cases. so much attention and value is dedicated to the aesthetics and build quality of a phone only to be covered up by an uglier case. my gf has an iphone, a really beautiful phone, and she covers it up with the most hideous otterbox. in her case it is warranted because she is a clutz, but it bothers me every time i see it. i liken it to buying a really nice sports car and then covering it up in foam to drive around.
BUT... i've had my current phone for 1.5 years and i remember the feeling when i dropped it the first day i bought it... it felt bad. only a small scratch but i swear i stared at that scratch and rubbed my finger over it so many times the first week in regret. hopefully this case will be minimal enough and good feeling enough so that i will keep it on my phone. but i'm predicting i'll keep it on for about 2 weeks before i decide i just want my phone beautiful and nude.
why spigen over ringke? well first off i wanted matte and second off ringke advertises "world's thinnest case" and then proves it with a picture of a nexus 5 with the wrong thickness measurement. so i had to dock them for semi false advertising.
the spigen and ringke were both $10 for me with shipping and handling included.
Has anyone bought a Ringke Slim case from Rearth and actually recieved their Nexus 5 yet?
How does it fit? Any comments/reviews would be fun to hear. I'm still waiting for both to arrive.

UAG black - very good protection with just enough bulk/weight combo. Also, the case fits perfectly on the phone, very high quality production. With awesome design to boot. The screen cover it brings is also the best one i've ever seen, no cheapo 3 for 1€'s from ebay even compare.

Yes! This!!! I have the exact same case its amazing! Like nothing can destroy this phone with this case!
I used a SGP Neo Hybrid since more than one year but a few month ago the polycarbonat frame is broken so I buy this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Book-Wallet...-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-III-GT-i9300-/271210987593
And I'm total happy with this Case since 2 month!
After trying about 10 cases of varying materials , shapes and sizes I chose the fake Neo Hybrid case since the origional doesn't seem to be available anymore. Build quality is quite good for under 10 bucks and if it breaks itll be cheap to buy another.
UAG is the best!! Very good quality and build. Using it with a 0,4 mm glass screen protector. Beats the plastic ones by a 1000 miles.
+1 on the bodyglove shocksuit!! The shizz.
Spigen neo hybrid now, had an Otterbox commuter for the last year. Like them both but I prefer the Spigen
Got to agree body glove is the best. Good price and doesn't make the phone to big and bulky.

Oh my god yes. the UAG case is really nice. The one thing I do dislike is that the lettering on the back came off within the first week of having it. Still recommend for durability. Btw those who want the case, Slate is a lot closer to the natural GS3 blue than you think!

most of the fake UAG case sell cheap and have letters failling off or just painted on it not mentioning the quality is not the same at all.
im not saying you brought fake one but just sharing some experiences.
also my fav case is indeed a UAG one (Scout/black) i got it from Ebay for 24$ port inclusive from a Belgian seller, i did some investigation because even if its only 10 bucks less than the official store its still suspicious, i did sent some detailed pics of the case and box info/bar code and according to the customer service : it's a original one, nonetheless i spared 10$ on it but i didnt got custom taxes.

Wow, I didn't know they sold many knockoffs. Mine was direct from Amazon through UAG. I think I just have oily skin which made it easier to reduce the sticky solution for the lettering. Thanks for letting me know of that! I might get another just to have more color selection

exactly what make a UAG better than a Otterbox, Otter are nice but too bulky.
funny experience: i had 2 S3 dropped from my balcony (around 3meter)1 from a friend with a Otterbox defender and mine with the UAG without screen protector both hit the concrete on the lower edge (where the soft bumper is) result : mine nothing the other had a little (very small) crack on the bottom of the screen xD
sorry for the blurry quality xD

That life proof looks really solid but still just a bit too bulky for me. I might get something a bit thicker than my UAG, but first I need a proper full screen protector. I've gone through like 5 because they are dammed hard to apply.

Yeah considering its just a bumper. I don't remember the last time i send more then $15 for a case. If it was some high end case with good material i might pay $30.
How many are already on the preorder?

Shows it on the preorder page. Currently 87/1400 with 30 days to go.
JUST PREORDERED! #89!
This is going to be the case that keeps our ONEPLUS protected but gives us our precious back which we all love to feel!
PREORDER PEOPLE!
Idk if we'll get enough people to pre-order to even get this bumper made. I mean It's still in the double digits.
There is 30 days left and they will give you a refund if they dont get enough. This is by far the most beastly case you can get for our phone. PREORDER SO WE CAN GET THIS SICK CASE! There is no reason not too!
If they reach 70% of there goal they start production so lets get there!
#96 here
You have nothing to lose, money will be returned if they don't make the 1400. Plus it's only day 3, and there are 30 days left! That's on track for 3000+.

There is a big reason not too purchase this case. Look at the damn high price! With this money I could purchase fuel for my Simson bike to drive it over a half year!

Well if you look at an Otterbox they start at $40 bucks. This is a premium case for our beautiful phone. The company has incredible screen protectors and there cases have proven to be really protective.
I want to protect my device but still have the back open. This is the case to do that.
If you don't want a one of a kind case for our device than don't purchase. This is basically the only high end case from a high end company, I pre-ordered right away.
1500 pre-orders... lol...
So they want you to pre order a bumper for $30 without seeing it.
You know you CAN see the one they made for the iPhone.
Personally, I am not a fan of bumper cases, I do realize that the bulk of the damage on a phone happens on its' sides but I just can't help it, I want a case that covers the back too. That's why my favorite kind of cases are the hybrid "TPU on the sides + a hard back" type.
I can however understand the guys that want to see and touch the back too, especially one as unique as the One's.
If this bumper came fused to a hard back too I could prolly see myself paying the 30+ USD price.
Use a rubber band.

This is NOT a casing, it's a mere bumper. An Otterbox is a fully protective casing.
$30 for a bumper only; or,
$40 for a fully protective casing.
Which do you think is more valuable? Unless Evolutive Labs show us the design and prove that their bumper really works on this device, I'm not buying this. You cannot believe them right away by watching their iPhone demo. The iPhone is thicker and is easier to get protection from the bumpers. The OnePlus One is very thin and how do you think a bumper (unless bulky), is going to protect the device?
And no, they have NO cases sold or made and used by the consumers. There is nothing to be proven. The iPhone crashguard is still in the Kickstarter stage. Nobody have used it, nobody have proved that their crashguard actually works. This is Evolutive Labs's first take on a bumper.
While I do like their screen protector, but there are still some things that I'm not satisfied but I'm not going into that here. Well, it's up to you. It's your money after all. Okay, how about you prove it to us that it works when it gets on your hands (IF this thing actually make it into production)? For science, of course.
