RINGKE Slim Vs. SPIGEN Ultra Fit (Pictures inside) - Nexus 5 Accessories

So.. I have tried my very best to search if anyone is talking about this in any other thread but can't find nothing on it.
I have the Nexus 4 version of the case and it has done me very well! Although about 10 days ago I broke it cause I always pop it on and off while bored.
The only other case that can compete with this (slimness wise) is the Slim SPIGEN Case.
I don't understand how there isnt a thread on this case nor is there any discussion on it! What gives?
What's your opinions on it? Which one would you choose out the two?
$5.99 RINGKE: http://www.amazon.com/RELEASE-PERFE...qid=1383319011&sr=1-2&keywords=ringke+nexus+5
$ 9.99 SPIGEN: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EV8Y50S/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Personally I'm going towards the Ringke case... its cheaper, thinner and looks a little better.
Maybe I'll be swayed towards the Spegen case from you guys!
EDIT/ UPDATE-
Finally got both cases and two phones to compare the two side by side.
After using both of them for a little bit I have decided the Ringke is the better case.
Reasons: Slimmer, covers the phone more, does not have an air gap on the back (you can press the SPIGEN on the back and it will move)
I had to sand both of them down to get rid of the ruff parts.

These super thin cases are way less popular (especially with the younger crowd) than the flashy "hybrid-like" cases that offer more protection and bling. This was the case with the GS4 as well (take a look at those forums).
I personally love the uber thin cases that offer only scratch resistance (and maybe a little drop-proof-ability) but are like having nothing on the phone and not adding to it's bulk. I have the Ringke slim for my GS4 and on the delivery truck a Ringke slim in transit for my N5.
I was very disappointed with the Spigen neo-hybrid for the GS4 and sold it immediately.
The Ringke slim on the other hand is super solid and more professional looking (if you want to call it that ).
I'm sure the Spigen Ultra Fit (Slim) would be very comparable to the Ringke, it looks almost identical in pics and specs

Glad someone brought this up too. I was looking at these two as well and this is something funny i noticed.
the size comparisons between the two are not consistent. SPIGEN reports a .3mm thicker phone but otherwise its the same size.
I'm leaning toward the RINGKE as well. cheaper if i ordered two of those with shipping than to order 2 of the Spigen and get something else for 1.02$ to hit the free shipping mark at 25.

Why exactly were you disappointed with the Neo Hybrid for S4? I had my eyes on the Champagne Gold Neo Hybrid for N5.
I'm personally not a fan of the Slim series as it doesn't offer protection for the top and bottom of the device. Whereas, the Galaxy Nexus Slim it covered the whole phone 360 and kept its slim factor.

I totally understand about the protection the slim series cases don't offer. It's all about preference indeed.
That said, I didn't like the neo-hybrid because it felt like a gimmick (if that makes sense). In other words it felt and looked like they made a case to just look "cool" rather than making a case to form fit a phone. It does offer more protection than the slim fit cases though. It was also too "square" looking for me once on the phone. Made the GS4 look iPhone-ish to my eyes.
Funny thing though....I sold it to my 17 yr old nephew (well it was free but he paid shipping) and he thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. :good:

I like the slimness but the top/bottom exposed is a no-no for me. I really wonder why they decided to go with that design. This is the Galaxy Nexus Slim I was referring to http://www.rearthusa.com/sprint_verizon_galaxy_nexus_slim.html slim factor and top/bottom protected.
Hmm, I guess that is true with the Champagne Gold. I just like the mixture between the two colors. So more or less its just aesthetics/appearances on your part but nothing of the case. I was just reading that the older versions of it have had peoples' outer part of the case to crack. Which was the same case for me when I had the official LG bumper for N4 so that was definitely worrisome.
Haha, I think its a pretty neat case too. Looks nice.

Yup, ya never know when the N5 might take a tumble to the pavement and land on the top/bottom or the screen (ouch)!
Oh I think the neo-hybrid looks great in a picture that's why I ordered it. On my GS4 was a different story. The plastic piece on mine felt like it would break very easily, but I don't know which version I had.
Go for it get what ya want. You can always return it and they're so cheap nowadays you don't really miss out on much by doing so

They're so cheap that its not even worth sending it back with the shipping fee.. plus I'm lazy Neo Hybrid is actually ~$19.99 as of right now.
Can't wait for the accessory party to finally begin and a bunch of nexus 5 videos of accessory unboxing/reviews to appear. It will make our jobs a lot easier.
Its kind of funny seeing Rearth and Spigen practically offer the same case and design and names. Slim/Hybrid, what is up with that anyway?

lol very true!
idk maybe they're owned by a same parent company?

Only problem I have with these cases is that when I always use one I notice that they tend to scratch your phone with the way they snap on.

I thought about that too when I first ordered the Ringke slim. To my delight there is not one scratch on my GS4 (had since launch) caused from the case and I've taken it on and off over a dozen times.
Edit: I will say however, that the case is tough to get off! It's snaps on easily and extremely secure

I like to wash them every week

Yeah I had one on my N4 and went to take it off (like to get the lint off every once and a while) and it scuffed one of the corners. Most people wouldn't notice but it threw my ocd into over drive aft err that lol.

Yeah exactly why I stopped using cases. I never liked cases, prefer naked. But got the slim ringke for my gnex a couple years ago. Loved the slimness but ended up scratching my phone.

I pop my case on and off all the time and it has never scratched my N4. Maybe its just the N4 that doesn't scratch.
The reason I like these slim cases is because it does add much bulk and it keeps the design of the phone some what. I'm the kind of person that has never dropped their phone on a hard surface. Worst surface iv dropped it on is carpet which was from my lap.
I'm thinking of buying both now cause I can't make my mind up at all!

Lol I was a accessory crazy guy in N4. Trying to make my first purchase the most satisfied one and stick with it im leaning towards the Neo Hybrid

Had a ringke slim on both my s3 and s4. Have one on order for the n5 as well.
Really like the s4 case but certainly not for someone that drops their phone all the time.

just ordered the spigen ultra fit soft matte white for my black nexus 5
i hate cases. so much attention and value is dedicated to the aesthetics and build quality of a phone only to be covered up by an uglier case. my gf has an iphone, a really beautiful phone, and she covers it up with the most hideous otterbox. in her case it is warranted because she is a clutz, but it bothers me every time i see it. i liken it to buying a really nice sports car and then covering it up in foam to drive around.
BUT... i've had my current phone for 1.5 years and i remember the feeling when i dropped it the first day i bought it... it felt bad. only a small scratch but i swear i stared at that scratch and rubbed my finger over it so many times the first week in regret. hopefully this case will be minimal enough and good feeling enough so that i will keep it on my phone. but i'm predicting i'll keep it on for about 2 weeks before i decide i just want my phone beautiful and nude.
why spigen over ringke? well first off i wanted matte and second off ringke advertises "world's thinnest case" and then proves it with a picture of a nexus 5 with the wrong thickness measurement. so i had to dock them for semi false advertising.
the spigen and ringke were both $10 for me with shipping and handling included.

Has anyone bought a Ringke Slim case from Rearth and actually recieved their Nexus 5 yet?
How does it fit? Any comments/reviews would be fun to hear. I'm still waiting for both to arrive.

I have the candy shell and oh man do i love this case. Makes it feel solid and really good in your hands. I highly recommend it but i have not tried the other case. Im not afraid to drop it and when i have it has help up great!
Thanks

Never had candyshell but the new versions of the uag are nice! Im really liking the new tpu material they are using.
Sent from my Galaxy S3 using neighbors wifi
I'm also looking at both of these too but I have to buy them over from the US seeing as no stores here stocking them
I owned the Candyshell and it was a good case overall. Solid, but more importantly for me was the awesome tactility the buttons had.
One problem was the black version of the Candyshell looked like crap after about a month, and that is no exaggeration. It scratched up REALLY easy...
Bugger and I wanted a black one too
I was waitting for Element to make a decent case out of those awesome materials they use but then they released a case out of TPU and I've waited far too long.
Looks like UAG it is
Did you consider the following alternative?
acase supperlegera pro dual layer case
Looks good, feel great and protects very nice. It's the one I have. Please read some reviews.
If it is between those two, I'd pick the puregear dualtek. It's 1 piece and very solid, and the white version doesn't get dirty like some white cases I've used.
i have both and the Speck crack on me for the 1st time taking it out the phone to switch to the UAG case, what a waste of money
Let me say this my uag has protected my phone from multiple drops from various heights and has handled my 270 pound friend trampling over it lol I recommend uag all day to people with gs3.

+1. Best. Case. PERIOD.
UAG is the best case I've ever owned in terms of durability to size. I've had cases that offer better protection but that extra protection came at the cost of greatly increased thickness.

Got rid of the Candyshell within 2 months, got the SGP bumper, it looks sexy but something about the buttons... after 2 months, i'm moving on to the UAG. If this doesn't satisfy my for awhile, i'll try out the Duratek.
Here is both of them, i would go with the UAG the Speck crack on me a hour later after i bought, while taking the phone out the case

As for the Speck, it was a known issue with the white ones. A couple of bad batches... if you would have contacted customer support, they would have replaced it for free.

Its crazy that i just got my UAG case a week ago after reading reviews online but i never thought about looking here. To the OP....you make a good choice with the UAG. Hope you love yours as much as I love mine.

Like a couple of others above me, I have both the Candyshell and UAG cases (2 of the UAG, actually...black and slate blue). I loved the Candyshell and used it for about a month before it just started looking awful (I knew this would happen, though, since I'd had them on my iPhones in the past). Plus, I started getting cracks around the volume rocker and power buttons.
I decided to move to the UAG based on the glowing reviews here. I can say, without hesitation, that the UAG is the best case I've ever had on any phone, period. It will take a beating and still come out looking great and it strikes the perfect balance between protection, looks, and bulk (or lack thereof).
I can't recommend it enough. You won't be disappointed if you get one.
Love my slate blue UAG case.

Tudia Ultra Slim Melody Case

Has anyone got one? They look nice and get good reviews on Amazon but would be good if someone who has one could post some pics of the real thing. I have the Spigen ultra hybrid which looks great but adds a lot of bulk to the phone and doesn't feel so great. I also have a cheapo tpu case which actually feels great but the finish is a bit poor and its a little saggy.

I don't have one, nor any experience with the maker, but they do look on the thicker side for TPU cases.
Now it's working... how so?
Yeah it seems like on the thicker side.
Got one of these today and really love it! Fantastic case.
"TPU" and "Ultra Slim" should never be uttered in the same sentence unless that sentence is "Nothing about TPU is ultra slim by any stretch of the imagination."
stahp.
Great case! Fits the phone perfectly without room for it to slide up and down inside the case. Buttons are not too hard to press but a little more difficult. All ports are accessible. The speaker grill cut out isn't perfectly put, but is just fine.

Got it the other day - nice case fist really well with no saggyness, I have ditched my spigen ultra hybrid for this as that whilst looking cool was too bulky.
This is a mediocre case at best. It's slim, but has the sticky feel of glossy TPU, which I hate. The design on the back may or may not appeal to you -- I found it repulsive. Overall, with this case, you get what you pay for. I personally think it ruins the aesthetics of the Nexus 5.

If the back is so repulsive why on earth did you buy it in the first place? It was quite evident in the pictures and listings that it was glossy tpu and the back was the way it is. Surely one of the main reasons people buy this case is because they like the design on the back. The case is cheap but alot better quality than other tpu cases ( of which I have bought 2) of a similar price and ruins the aesthetics no more than any other case, compared to other cases I have bought including the spigen it follows the contours of the phone well.

Which Spigen case is best for Nexus 5, between the neohybrid and slimarmour?

Hey guys,
I know this is totally subjective. However, I have been looking for a case for my nexus 5. I like the Spigen NeoHybrid, and Slimarmor so far, however I have heard bad things about the Neohybrid, and that the Slimarmor is somewhat bulky. Some guidance is needed. Thank you!

Spigen cases are always good to use and I have used slim armour of it...and I just love that case....so my vote will go for Slim Armour.....
---------- Post added at 02:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:58 PM ----------
you can also check out the ultra hybrid one too...thats too a really nice case to go for....:good:
sometimes thick cases will mess with the camera by changing the light sensitivity because the lens and/or flash are shrouded. go on amazon and read the reviews... i decided against the slim armor because of potential camera issues and because people complained about the buttons either being hard to press, or no feedback/bad feel from the buttons. but it does look like it would protect the phone well and with tpu instead of cheap silicone like all those old iphone cases i had to deal with years ago i'm sure it's still a pretty good case. but i went with the neo hybrid and it should be here this afternoon so i'll give my opinion then.
I have the slim armour. I was a bit disappointed at how bulky it is when I first put it on my Nexus, however I have grown accustomed to it and it is a good quality case.
The button feedback is actually the best I've ever experienced on a case. Really nice.
I would personally prefer a slimmer case but if you're not worried about bulk, slim armour is a definite one to look at.
I got a Slim Armor and the buttons are no good. Makes them feel spongy. I'm returning it and ordering a Neo Hybrid.
Pretty awesome. Thank you guys!! Anyone encountered fitting problems with the neohybrid, especially the use of the headset jack?
I have the slimarmor. The power button is a bit too snug and i feel alot of dusk seeps into the bottom of the case.
However, I have dropped the phone 2 times on the ground outside (concrete) and there's not one nick on the case itself and the phone is perfectly fine. It does add a bit of bulk, but I got used to it pretty quickly. I can't promise I'll stay with this one for good, but It will definitely be in rotation with other cases

I have both and like the slim armor better. Better protection and list slippery. If you want slimmer I also have the ultra hybrid which I feel is made better than the neo hybrid and is slimmer. That's my 2 cents on the issue.
i have the neo hybrid and think it's fine as a case. the case buttons transfer the tactile feel of the phone's buttons very well.

i just got the neo hybrid. it adds more bulk to the phone than i thought... the back is thin but something about squaring off the back makes it feel a lot bigger. also the tpu + bumper adds some width. i was afraid of button access problems through the cutouts with some of the tpu cases out there so i didn't go with a cheap tpu case, maybe i would have been happier with a contoured case rather than this but overall it's a very good case. the power button feedback is a little less, but the button works consistently, my dennon headphones fit, but others might not, the phone stills charges wirelessly without problems.
I picked up the Slim Armor and love it. Great protection around the corners, screen, and camera lens. For a two layer case, it doesn't feel bulky at all. Fits very nice in the hand IMO.

None that I've noticed with my Neo Hybrid. I just wish it wasn't so difficult to remove.
I haven't actually tried either case (because I haven't even gotten my phone yet... backorder ) but I would trade bulkiness for protection by getting the dual layer Slim Armor. I have had a dual layer case on my current phone and I have dropped a couple times over the past two years. In combination with a screen protector, a dual layer case can be the best insurance for your phone without actually paying $100-200 for real insurance.
I was originally planning on the Neo Hybrid just cuz it looks so damn nice but more than 1 person has said its very slippery... and that'd be silly to buy a case only for you to drop it more often.
I ordered the Slim Armor instead, waiting for it to arrive. Amazon's shipping is kind of wonky, they said 2 day delivery but the package has just sat at UPS's facilities for the past 3 days and its scheduled for tomorrow- oh wait, of course UPS changed the date to Thursday.
Hate UPS, but cant wait to get my hands on the case. Hoping it doesn't have the accursed power button issue (though I reckon it won't be too difficult to fix anyway).
I recently got the slim armor. Quality case. Make sure you play around with putting it on. The buttons are very sensitive as you've probably read elsewhere and would turn the phone off. After about 2 tries I got it on and the buttons are working normally.:good:

UAG black - very good protection with just enough bulk/weight combo. Also, the case fits perfectly on the phone, very high quality production. With awesome design to boot. The screen cover it brings is also the best one i've ever seen, no cheapo 3 for 1€'s from ebay even compare.

Yes! This!!! I have the exact same case its amazing! Like nothing can destroy this phone with this case!
I used a SGP Neo Hybrid since more than one year but a few month ago the polycarbonat frame is broken so I buy this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Book-Wallet...-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-III-GT-i9300-/271210987593
And I'm total happy with this Case since 2 month!
After trying about 10 cases of varying materials , shapes and sizes I chose the fake Neo Hybrid case since the origional doesn't seem to be available anymore. Build quality is quite good for under 10 bucks and if it breaks itll be cheap to buy another.
UAG is the best!! Very good quality and build. Using it with a 0,4 mm glass screen protector. Beats the plastic ones by a 1000 miles.
+1 on the bodyglove shocksuit!! The shizz.
Spigen neo hybrid now, had an Otterbox commuter for the last year. Like them both but I prefer the Spigen
Got to agree body glove is the best. Good price and doesn't make the phone to big and bulky.

UAG black - very good protection with just enough bulk/weight combo. Also, the case fits perfectly on the phone, very high quality production. With awesome design to boot. The screen cover it brings is also the best one i've ever seen, no cheapo 3 for 1€'s from ebay even compare.
Survived plenty of abuse already, phone remains mint.

Oh my god yes. the UAG case is really nice. The one thing I do dislike is that the lettering on the back came off within the first week of having it. Still recommend for durability. Btw those who want the case, Slate is a lot closer to the natural GS3 blue than you think!

most of the fake UAG case sell cheap and have letters failling off or just painted on it not mentioning the quality is not the same at all.
im not saying you brought fake one but just sharing some experiences.
also my fav case is indeed a UAG one (Scout/black) i got it from Ebay for 24$ port inclusive from a Belgian seller, i did some investigation because even if its only 10 bucks less than the official store its still suspicious, i did sent some detailed pics of the case and box info/bar code and according to the customer service : it's a original one, nonetheless i spared 10$ on it but i didnt got custom taxes.

Wow, I didn't know they sold many knockoffs. Mine was direct from Amazon through UAG. I think I just have oily skin which made it easier to reduce the sticky solution for the lettering. Thanks for letting me know of that! I might get another just to have more color selection
Lifeproof Fre.
Otterbox Armour is a close second, but the lifeproof is more practical for everyday use, as it's more pocketable and wireless charging works through it.

exactly what make a UAG better than a Otterbox, Otter are nice but too bulky.
funny experience: i had 2 S3 dropped from my balcony (around 3meter)1 from a friend with a Otterbox defender and mine with the UAG without screen protector both hit the concrete on the lower edge (where the soft bumper is) result : mine nothing the other had a little (very small) crack on the bottom of the screen xD
sorry for the blurry quality xD

That life proof looks really solid but still just a bit too bulky for me. I might get something a bit thicker than my UAG, but first I need a proper full screen protector. I've gone through like 5 because they are dammed hard to apply.

Ultimate case to buy ?

I've been reading this forum for an hour and I cant make a decision LOL :crying:
Which case should I get for my Nexus 5?
I was gonna get the ultra slim from spigen.. but then I read all these cons. Overall, almost all the "highly reviewed" cases on amazon have been negatively talked about ..
Which case should I get ?
I'm looking for mainly scratch protection, since I dont think i'll be dropping it much. Really do not want to add bulk, and I love the way the N5 feels without a case.
EXTREMELY open to recommendations , even if it goes against what i'm looking for !
If it matters i'm installing a MIME ghost screen protector :good:
looking forward to suggestions and recommendations ! thanks ! :fingers-crossed:

U wont be dropping it much..mainly scratch protection is what you want.. Then why dont you go for a skin..it will protect from scratches and minor drops too..n u will he able to maintain the slimness and lightness of your N5..
I have ordered one from slickwraps..they have an amazing collection for reasonable pricing..

Can't go wrong with the official LG Hardshell case. Super slim, well designed, and light. Comes in white too if that tickles your fancy.

I'm quite partial to the Quicksand hardcases. I love the texture and the feel of it. It's also flexible and durable. It's super cheap in comparison to most other hardcases as well (which is why I have 8 of them in various colours haha). I got them for $0.99 each shipped, but they're a bit more expensive now because they've become so popular. Still cheap though.
You can see my review here (with tons of pictures), and lots of discussion about them as well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577289
If you want just purely minimal. The OEM LG Hardshell will probably suit you. It's pretty much the most minimal of minimal cases you can buy. It turns out it doesn't really suit me (too much love for the Quicksand!) but there are others here who really love it. The black is similar to the back of the black Nexus 5, and the white case is similar (a bit more slippery, same as a white Ringke Slim, or Spigen Ultra Fit) to the white back.
You can see my review here of it (lots of pics too). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2643884
I don't use a screen protector, so I'm not sure if the Quicksand would interfere with it or not. I don't believe anyone has said there is any problems with Quicksand cases and screen protectors though, pretty much everyone has said it is fine. But the LG case does not even create a lip over the screen at all so that one would be guaranteed not to have any issues.

Go for quicksand (they're awsome) or consider frosted semi-transparent if you have white nexus (semi transparent feels almost the same as the back of black Nexus).
They're just 99 cent each (around $3 if you want to buy it with fast shipping from US) so even if you won't like them it's not going to be like you threw away your money.
How about 2 quick sand cases for free? I have a black and grey quick sand case. I'll be more than happy to mail them to you. PM your mailing address if you're interested.
Edit: got your address! I'm not using it cause I just use it naked
The awesome cruzerlite bugdroid case. Super classy and functional. I would recommended anything rubber really, don't go with with hard cases since they offer little to none protection when dropped.

I've stopped myself from buying the SPIGEN's so far from seeing discoloration issues or scratches on corners just from the case itself !!
I've tried multiple cases always.coming back to diztronic tpu case. It just feels slim and good in hand.

You're in for a treat! The quicksand cases rock. Even more so when they're free. :good:

I'm in the same situation as you.
I bought, a few weeks ago, the Ultra Fit from SPIGEN and after some time, it scratched a little bit 2 of my corners. I was very carefull because I expected it could happen (reading the reviews) so it's not too bad, but I won't use it anymore.
According to reviews, the Ringke Slim is worse for scratching corners...
So I'm looking for another slim/minimal case but all of them have bad reviews or issues.
I'm thinking going naked
or maybe should I get a Quicksand or a Poetic Palette, which one is the best ? the texture seem to be similar...
and what about this one from LG ?
http://www.amazon.com/AAA75187801-Hardshell-Nexus-5-Black/dp/B00GGL4XNC/ref=sr_1_1?m=AAGPL8G7LX7P0&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1392162534&sr=1-1&keywords=Hardshell+Nexus+5
thanks
I'm using ringke fusion hybrid for a nice balance of protection and size. Also have a slickwraps wood back wrap that shows nicely through the clear back. The case is only $9 on Amazon with prime shipping too. I may buy the tech 21 case though from T-Mobile. Had it on my old gs4 and absolutely loved the feel of it.

the quicksand and poetic palette cases are one and the same. I've got the poetic because the few extra bucks was worth it for prime shipping and a 3 year warranty, plus I've been happy with my poetic cases in the past.
the LG hardshell is perfect if you truly want minimal
I would suggest you get a nice case for around $10 and a few cheapos from ebay ~$1. These cheapos are cheap only in terms of price but get the job done, like the quicksand cases that are all the rage here. I personally would not buy something very expensive.
I have a few cheap cases from ebay that cost ~$2-$3 dollars each and a SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle case. I use the SUPCASE every day and its really good for a $10 case. You should try it out!
1. Tech21, only sold at T-Mobile. About $30, but worth it when you see the YouTube video demo. Also search for the thread here discussing it.
2. Spigen Clear Ultra Hybrid. $10 -$15. Totally clear, very flexible and protective. It was my favorite for a few weeks until I got #1.
I bought a dozen more, not worth mentioning except for the Spigen Black Ultra Hybrid with clear back. But #2 (another Spigen) is better.
Still, Tech21 beats them all.

+1. I have the Androidified Army case by Cruzerlite. It's the same as the Bugdroid, just a different design on the back. Great case.
Tech 21.
