I am trying to get Straight Talk working on my newly arrived Galaxy nexus HSPA+ unlocked (gsm) from the Play Store.
I get H+ and pretty good signal too (tested on Speedtest since it worked for a small amount of time, and got good signal strength in bars)...however I am having issues. As I sit here watching my phone I see it go from HSPAP to UTMS to HSDPA back to HSPAP and the cycle repeats. I tried messing with radios to no avail. I flashed H+ mod from (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763059) so I could more easily see it happening, and sure enough it shows it happening there too.
My APN is set to the same I used on the XT910 for Straight Talk, which was included in the SIM guide and on Straight Talk's site.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Well this thread got buried quickly...

Need some help. Have the S3 since release. Never had any issues, except this past week. My home area has a strong 4G coverage, but recently they expanded LTE, so now I have that. I left to San Diego for work earlier in the week. Came back, now my phone can barely hold any signal. I see it go from 4 bars of 4G to no signal at all. Doesn't from from 4,3,2,1,0 but 4 to nothing, So, I popped the sim, popped it back in...boom. I'm back up and running, that was Wednesday. Today, issues start all over again. Tried the SIM trick again, nothing, I tried to pop the sim, boot the phone up, get the no sim error, pop it back in and power up...nothing, I mean, my phone just struggling to hold any signal at all now. Help.....

Search network signal speed booster by mcstealth on the play store(its free). This might help you.
It will refresh signal and automatically acquire the best cell tower in your area. Works pretty well for me

Tried that. Nada. Just came back from the AT&T store and they gave me a new SIM card. They said with the new deployment of LTE around the area, the area could be having network issues. I don't know tho since the store is near my home. Wouldn't they know? They told me to give it a couple of days. But why am I paying off nothing is working right now? This sucks.

I literally have an at&t store 3 blocks away from my home, can only get 1-2 signal bars in my home at all times. Not to mention I live in LA which is supposed to have good coverage. They told me that the cell towers could be getting interference from radio waves in my home, etc. Never really addressed my issue. The retail people really just try to tell you what you want to hear to get you to stay with them. I feel the same way and am on WiFi constantly, why do I have to pay an additional 30$ a month if I can't get decent data speed and coverage in my own home.

This might sound bizarre, strange and plain stupid but it has happened to me (at least when using the TMo sim) and the way I could solve it was taking the sim out and rubbing it to an oily surface (my forehead) and both times it has happened to me it has work. Let us know if it works or if I'm just dumb and lucky.

Lol, tried rubbing the SIM against my forehead, nothing. Call me crazy, but I think my phone is trying to get on the LTE network, but keeps failing out, that's why my phone keeps losing signal. Just a theory. When I reboot, every time, my phone shows the signal, then goes straight to no signal.

Can you access the hidden network menu going to the dialer and pressing *#2263#? (I dont know if this option works on the GS3 cause it doesn't work on mine but maybe that's cause I'm running CM10, idk, but it works on the Note and others Galaxy phones)
There you can actually select between LTE, GSM or WCDMA bands. Maybe you can force it to only work on the GSM bands and selecting ALL in the GSM options. Hope this helps

"RAT Selection option is restricted."
Edit, so got to the menu, forced the LTE option, but phone couldn't hold a signal. Wcdma seems to be th automatic setting, as the results were the same. Gsm only kept my 4g. So, gives me some stability, but I feel I'm in the same boat. Either there are network issues, or my phone is having issues with LTE.
Ok, so to start off I currently own a Verizon Note 2 SCH-I605. I currently do not actually have a Verizon contract and have had straight talk a couple times in the past, got everything to work just fine. I recently got Walmarts 30 dollar T-Mobile sim starter kit for $30.00~ and have gotten just about everything working, except I am unable to figure out how I can improve my speed from the h+ I'm seeing.
I have been searching everywhere online and can't seem to find a clear idea if there is even a remote possibility of getting 4g lte from t-mobile on this verizon note 2. I've never rooted a phone before but I can assume that if it is even possible, then I am going to be heading down that route. Is it even possible to get t-mobiles 4g lte with this phone in any capacity or am I just out of luck?
Guess I'll just stick with this h+
I know there's loads of questions and threads about T-Mobile on a S3 but I've been dealing with this issue ever since my girlfriend gave me her old AT&T S3. I signed up on here just now because I couldn't stand trying to figure it out myself anymore.
I've also looked at all those threads and for some reason they all seem to have an opposite issue of what I have. To my understanding, areas that aren't re-farmed will give you 4g LTE and 2g (edge) but no 3g correct?
I get the opposite of that, I get only HSPA+, HSPA, rarely 2g and never LTE. The part I don't understand is why I don't get LTE. My Brother is able to get LTE with his T-Mobile LG G2 so LTE coverage should be fine in my area.
I ended up finding out that T-Mobile requires a newer sim card to work with LTE and I was using an extremely old one that I got when smartphones basically just came out. (I cut it into micro shape) Today I just received my new sim in the mail, popped it in and it showed LTE with 4 bars but I couldn't do anything because I haven't activated it yet. Once I got it activated it went back to HSPA+.
The weird part about this is that if I restart my phone sometimes it'll show LTE for a couple seconds but it'll say "no service" then proceed to go back to H+.
I'd like to at least know someone else gets the same thing because it's been driving me crazy and it seems like I'm the only one having this issue. I've literally been trying to get LTE on this phone for about a year now.
If someone can try helping that'd be cool, thanks
Hey good Android people,
After searching for this topic for an hour I couldn't find anyone with the same problem so I figured I should make a new thread.
I just got a used, unlocked AT&T Galaxy Note 4 N910A running Android 6.0.1. I put in my T Mobile sim and get call and text but no 4g/LTE or mms. Of note, I have my wife's phone in my hand, the exact same version, and she's got lightening fast 4g LTE.
I went in and changed the APN to what TMobile recommends and confirmed it is exactly what my wife's phone is running. I also ran LTE discovery, rebooted the phone and all I continue to get is the "E" icon with up and down arrows. I also keep getting a text from 94183571 that says, "Sorry, this service is not available." Whatever that means.
Please tell me there's a fix, it took forever to find a phone in such good shape. Thanks guys.
Matt from Philly
Can anyone help? I'm desperate!
im in the same boat. i have no explanation but im seriously dying to know as well.
i too have the galaxy note 4 unlocked from att with which i am using tmobile service. i have the exact same issues with blotchy signals and bogus service including the infamous texts from 94183571 which mean absolutely nothing to me besides the fact that they appear out of nowhere at any time. i dont even have to be touching or using my phone at all and i get these messages. who sends them and why? what service is it that they are referring to? how is it that my phone is trying to use a service when its not being used by me at all? how do i stop it? what triggers it in the first place? can anybody offer even a vague or a comically incorrect answer that would point me in the right direction hopefully? if you have any information, please by all means, step forward. it will be greatly appreciated. thank you.
