Charging Cable loose - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Hello everybody,
Two week ago I noticed that the usb-c cable is not "locking" on the charging port and will unplug with the slightest movement. I check various cables and have the same problem.
Is anybody else having this problem?
There is no problem with charging. The biggest problem is when I put the phone in a car mount vertically it just simply unplug.

I had this problem a few months ago with my S7. Found out it was caused by built up lint in the charging port. Have you checked for build up there?

If that is not the problem see if you can get an RMA from Google. They probably keep some around to use as replacements, even if stock is still low. I had the exact same issue and they replaced my Nexus 6p.

I have this problem as well over the last month. I think its from the plastic inside th C-Port stretching as none of my cables are holding tight. Luckily for me, I have screen burn and have to send my phone in for replacements and can get this fixed as well.

Three was a very small piece of plastic inside the port, don't have an idea from where it came from. Thanks!

How do you get the lint out of the charging port if that is your issue?

I have a very pointy set a tweezers, the ends are thinner than a straight pin. Use one side to scrape the bottom of the port to loosen up the lint and blew the loose lint out. Keep doing that until it was all gone.

I'll have to look for something like that. Thanks.

adding to this discussion, brand new phone with loose usb, actually came loose over night and didnt charge. I found a sticker on the connector in the port that I pulled out with a thumb tack.. presumably this sticker was there from the factory? odd.. but I now get a nice satisfying confirmation click when I plug in haha

I just read some of the posts, and low and behold I grabbed a sewing needle and picked out the lint. There was quite a bit, but as soon as I cleaned it out my usb C cable popped right in and charged. Thanks for the info!

Protecting your USB port on your mobile device

I own a HTC Fuze and am just concerned about its USB port because it might probably get damged from different things, dusts, and rusts.. Unlike new models from Nokia phones, they are now protecting this kinds of ports. so I wondered, how am I able to protect mine? And I thought, "yeah why not just use some old and damaged USB cables and take the connector off" and so I did!
here are some images

Nice ideia!!! good karma to you!
There are similar if not greater risks to having something permanently in the USB port like that. Be careful not to knock it. If you drop the phone and it hits that USB plug then you run the risk of ripping the USB port off the board (an issue very common in HTC phones - happened to my Kaiser several times).
Something flush would be much better.
I hope it all works out OK for you though.

Yeah, I thought of that too. After I first tried inserting the "protector" I already noticed it. So I was thinking to flatten it by bending some of it but I just don't have the tools yet to cut and bend the plates.
but this is just version 1

As long as it doesn't stick out any further than the housing or that case you have on there then you should be safe (unless by some freak accident you happen to drop your phone so that the USB port lands directly on a stone or something!)
Nice idea though! I always get frustrated by how dirty my ports get (clean mind please!)

$9.99 is Php 429.20 here Philippines. That's too costly for a small piece of rubber.
I'll stick to my home made.
plus, I want something that it will not be missed placed, so thanks to the small hole in that usb metal connector (not sure what you call that)
Good Idea!! Also, some cell phone cases protect/cover that area until you open it for use.
here's how I plan and flatten that
i don't think you really need to, just give it a good blow, never did any hard on all my mobiles before

Having worked in mobile phone retail before, I have first hand experience of how people can destroy phones.
I used to take a pin into work with me every day because I would always have someone come up to me saying their phone no longer charges. This was because of dust and corrosion on the contacts that I would scrape off with the pin to make it work again. They thought I was a magician!
It's one of the reasons why I'm glad that things like the Nokia POP port, both sonyericsson connectors and the motorola contacts got phased out. They were a nightmare!
Most contacts are now internal, which generally means they're only prone to dust instead of the whole manner of crap they would be subjected to before!
Good idea mate .
Nice and cheaper idea friend but for little devices it's a kinda ugly.. I would go for those rubber things that fit's on the usb port.

I wouldn't recommend the dock as a stand-in dock, where you plug it in on the go, or quickly. The phone is only supported by the actual USB plug! So I'd be REALLY worried about the port getting loose over time, so I'd skip that. I had that happen to my SGSII. But on the other hand, you can lay it down and it was made for this, too! So there is no need to worry about the usb plug getting loose. I really like it for this. Just look at the last 2 pictures.
I hope you like it! It's a decent dock, I guess. It's more of a stand now. Haha.

Am tempted by this dock... but don't understand what you're saying here. I mean... in the images it looks like there's a rear-support for the phone to lean against. Do you have to faff with this or something, or does it remain up, so you can just drop the phone on and have it lean?
Alternatively, does anybody have suggestions for docks that work with cases? I got the iGadgitz case (link), which I'm totally pleased with... it doesn't turn your pockets inside-out when pulling it out.

Tap it to the right or to the left, and it'll put some kind of strain on the phone's port. That's what I don't like. I have a dock that DOES support the sides, and still ended up busting the port. I don't use the inbuilt charging feature. I just put it in the landscape orientation and use a normal microusb, and that also allows me to grab my phone while I'm waking up in the morning and unplug it correctly.

Ah, gotya. Yeah, my Streak sits in landscape, with a fat connector, so never realised the difference with the Note and a tiny connection.
And bugger... your port has already been wrecked? So it's a real issue. Bah.
Mmm... not exactly swamped with options that allow for cases though, but don't think I can risk it since I've gotta stick with this baby for 23.75 months yet
That said, this thing does last an entire day, unlike my Streak... so maybe I'll just get a spider-holder or something without charge/usb.
I use the dock daily. I just don't use the built in charger. I turn it on its side and use the regular charger. I think the angle's great.
But this does make me miss the blackberry dock. Blackberry's have metal connectors ONLY for docks that will never mess with any ports . Fantastic idea in my opinion. Oh well. This is a monster of a phone! hehe. Sold my 9900 for it
Awesome.
Thanks for the info, I've gone a head and ordered one.
I guess it'll be safe on my desk, as the odds on knocking it are near zero. As an alarm clock though, I totally get you... I'd wreck it in a single day.
Ah, charging all day at work... I'll probably save a million* in electric bills.
*Ok, maybe $0.01 per month, lol.

[Urgent] flash LED / rigid flex damaged?

Hello everyone.
I have a question for you.
I've send my phone back for warranty because one of the leds stopped working.
Problem occured when my upper flash led became blueish and after a while i couldnt even take pictures with flash because it made photo completely blue.
Eventualy, that led died.
Now i got it back from repair and they wrote down something like that:
"Mechanically damaged phone (bruised), consequently damaged rigid flex.."
So, I am asking what exactly is "damaged" rigid flex? As far as I know, rigid flex is some kind of "tape"-like part of motherboard? Some kind of connector? And if this is true, how the hell could rigid flex be damaged INSIDE OF OUR ALUMINIUM PHONE?? The phone was never disassembled neighter dropped. It has 3 scratches on the back above the battery slot. I got them when i was at the beach and phone slided (not dropped or anything) for about 5cm on the little rocks there, nothing MAJOR really, even the scratches are small. Also that couldnt effect that rigid flex.. And if rigid flex would be damaged, as far as i know, both leds would be gone + camera or some stuff??
Thank you guys for your answers and your time spent reading this
With Love,
miHah
I don't know what that means, it sounds made up. I just replaced my upper board with the LEDs on it icant see it getting damaged any way other than a bad led. The board costs $50 on eBay. Did they charge you? I never send back for warranty they always try to back charge. You can always find the parts on eBay. As you can see they are solders to the board. The black cable connector beside them is the power. Maybe that was damaged?

No they did not charge me anything, they just refused to repair that.
I demanded photos of "damaged" things because I am curious if they even opened the thing. I think they didn't as I am looking at those pics.
Those LEDS and the mainboard looks completely different from yours. Or is it only me?
Also, they provided me the "bruised-phone" photo (reason why they refuse to repair it under warranty). Wanna see?
Thank you for your answers!
They are taking you for a ride, the "Flashlight"/LED cable is under that mylar tape that they didnt even remove. I would complain make them tell you exactly what was damaged. you can see visible damage to the LED.
My phone is a telus the bigger black rubber thing is a noise cancelling mic to the left of the leds you can see the 4 solder points just above your leds.
where the wire i soldered to the board was where the gps antenna connectors was and they are right of the leds on your pic. They are the same board just mine is out on my desk yours was still in the phone.
Those boards are different. Make sure if you have the European DHD that you don't purchase a board for the Telus Desire HD or Inspire.
Is that discolorization on the board from it getting wet or from the LED exploding? Wow, can't believe they refused to repair your phone because of some exterior wear and tear.
It was never exposed to water or steam or anything. The closest incident it could get wet was once when I took a shower it was in my bathroom while there was a little steam on the high level of the room but that couldn't have had any effect on anything.
LED Exploding? How could this happen?

These boards are almost identical. The only difference is the noise cancelling Mic. I have a telus desire hd and replaced the board with a euro. One. It worked perfect.
Just watch the teardown video and replace it your self. It takes awhile, but not real hard to do. Took me about 1/2 hour.

You may encounter trouble because of the One's all-metal body. Your case will need to completely isolate the coil from the body for this to work, if memory serves me right. Admittedly, it is aluminum, so I'm not altogether certain it will be an issue.

I would really like to see something like this. A couple of challenges I think would be keeping the plug area on the bottom to as thin as possible and second would be to keep the case as thin and small as possible.
I wish you luck!

Post pics of it on the phone and let us know what kind of charger your using. It looks like you could rip off that coil and place it in any case if it's thin .
Definitely report on results. I tried to make something like this for my One XL, and while it worked as far as charging went, it was unpredictable and seemed to make the phone unstable, though I could never figure out why. I suspect it's not just the charging current but that the phone's charging circuits and drivers need to be tuned for wireless.

you need the Type b for the HTC One, it seems to work but as it's only 500mA at 5V the charging is
going to be fairly slow
It is very slim and unnoticeable behind a tpu case, the connected usb does not stick out that far either

As it came from China it took awhile to arrive but the price is right

Thanks for letting us know about this. I'd not seen that, but it looks like just what I'd like to try and fit between my phone and case. The lack of wireless charging was the biggest reason I held off switching from my DNA to the One. I love the convenience of just plopping my phone on the orb charger during the day. this may not sound like the most logical idea, but isn't it possible to somehow use NFC for wireless charging, since NFC is about near field communication after all?

Nfc doesn't connect to the battery of the phone and the coil is not inductive as it is a derivative of close range rfid
A quick tip for the add on qi pads with the HTC one, as the USB is not in the middle you can't position the pad straight up or the curved back makes it hard to get a connection. Put it on a bit of a diagonal so the pad is in the centre of the back

[Q] Flickering screen problem

Hi All.
I hope that anyone will be able to assist me. I have the Note 10.1 (2014) P-605. After a month with the tablet the screen started to flicker intermittently. Is would do it for a few seconds then go away.
At first I thought it was a problem with my smart cover as it seem to be better if I take it out of the cover. I have since replaced the cover and worked without it and while it has been better it is still there.
I have rooted the tab and thus I can send it back to Samsung.
I have tried apps to disable the magnet cover and still nothing.
I have also tried other roms (Stocky and Revolution) but still have the problem.
Has anyone else have/had the problem and is there a solution to this very irritating issue
Thank you in advance
Best thing to do is reseed the display ribbon. Power off the device, remove back panel, the ribbon on the left overlapping the battery is the display ribbon.

what I am not sure of , is that it never does it in the bootloading or in recovery.
You can seperate the piece of plastic (backside) from the "silver" frame, or just seperate the silver frame from the main body/display - they are just clips, just be easy. Use a credit card or a tool seperation.
Eliminate the most obvious problem (ribbon cable), if persists maybe an underlying hardware issue. More then likely its just the ribbon cable as the mainboard is not really flush with battery which can lead to the ribbon coming loose.

That is not good news. I wonder if anyone else has this problem or is there a way that I can send it back to Samsung?

My personal opinion I think it's not the LCD but the GPU, because my screen display artifacts like that of a dying PC GPU.

It that something I can have replaced?
I had the same problem. The display started flickering, then after I switched it off and on again, the display stayed black, although I could still hear incoming notifications. I sent it in for repair. In the repair log, they told me that a cable was replaced. Since I received it back, it has been working without any problems.
The repair was very quick here in Germany. I sent it in on a Monday and received it back the same week on Friday - that's really quick! I could also check the status online.
Its the LCD ribbon cable that is loose and its at bottom of the ribbon cable that need to "tighten up". Can put electric cable over so it wont become loose again.Might need few tries to do it correct.

I have been getting horizontal artifacts when using hardware acceleration for videos since the 4.4 update myself. I'm thinking the update may have changed clock speeds or something.

Thank you for the advice.
It does seem strange that it never happens in the boot animations. Only in android itself.
what is the best way to open the tablet without damage? The back or the front.
Thank you in advance

It happens again yesterday, after the tab got lights hits/shaking etc.... past months and the screen starts to show symptons of flickering. But this time I didnt wait until it goes total black, since I know what causing the problem.
Just open the backcover with fingernails (or whatever tools needed, like creditcard but fingernails works best and fastest to open with ) and this time I just needed to remove ribbon cable from zif connector and reinsert it again. Then jsut be sure push a little at bottom of the LCD ribbon cable too. The problem went right away. :victory:
