My phone came up with an update yesterday, and installed no problem.
It was only later while out I realised I had no mobile data while out. No matter what I try it will not connect to mobile data. If wifi is connected the mobile data states, ' Use my data plan when Wi-fi isn't available.' As soon as I walk out of range of the router the wifi drops and I have no data at all. If I turn wifi off but leave data on. the mobile data states, 'Disconnected.'
There is no apn listed. It states, 'Access Point Name settings are not available for this user. It does allow me to go through the process of setting it up manually, however it says it has saved it, but nothing appears. I have tried both saving and using the back key, neither works.
I have tried rebooting, flight mode toggling and nothing. I have taken my sim and put it in my daughters M9 and data works fine. I put her sim in mine and nothing. I can make calls and sms but no data. I have trawled through pages of xda and google and none of the solutions work.
I have also done a full system reset to no avail.
Can anyone give advice? It was working great until the update yesterday

Weird indeed. Have you tried re-flashing the RUU? That would re-apply the software to your phone (rather than just re-setting what is already there). Might make the difference.

Thanks. Do you have a link to the RUU?
Check out the readme thread - it's got RUUs for the 617 SKU (your variant, from your OS version) in the 5th post. If you're new to RUUs, do take the time to read through the thread. It's a quite a bit of information, but it helps build a common baseline for future support questions, if you end up having them.
I have the same problem, any solutions?

Try re-registering to the network then edit the apn settings or ask your carrier to text the settings to your phone.

Hey Y'all
I spent all day trying to figure out why I have lost my internet on my Desire.
I can browse using my wireless, but if I turn off WIFI, all I get is Webpage not available. (On any page I try)
I have been into the APNs to check the settings & they are all ok.
I am with Orange Uk & have an unlimited Internet package.
The little 3g arrows are flashing?
Also I have 70 meg Phone memory & I get a warning if try to intall a 1meg game, saying "Out of Space Program could not be viewed. Free up some space on your phone and try again".
Any help from the experts would be really appreciated.
Thanks
E
I had the same problem with the interent, turned the phone off then on, and internet started working again.
Ok further update.
My emails are working?
I just rang orange & they sent me the settings via text & told me to shut of my phone & remove the battery, then boot it up, & as expected, that did NOTHING!
So I have no idea why I can only browse using WIFI.
Mobile is enabled, I'm not in aeroplane mode, or anything daft like that.

What values do you get if you go:
settings/about phone/network
look at signal strength. might give you a clue.
i'm on orange uk and my desire can be tempremental. it's loads better outside of central london. perfect on wifi. if i'm in a pub in town trying to read the news, or on the bus home, sometimes i get next signal at all.
what i try, and this seems to work sometimes, is turning mobile on/off a few times, or even powering down/up.
ps. it's confusing when you make a statement and then put a question mark at the end (your emails are working? what does that mean - are you asking us, or telling us you're not sure, or what?)
I mentioned this in a different thread...
Do you switch off wifi correctly?
I found that when I am connected via wifi and then go out of range my mobile network can't connect to the internet.
I have to turn of wifi manually every time in order to have the mobile network working.
Usually switching to airplane mode and than back again solves this issue.
The important thing is to always switch from wifi to mobile network manually. It's quite annoying but it's not the end of the world.
Thanks for your replies.
I rang Orange again today, usual call centre.
It turned out in the end that I had lost my WAP settings.
The call centre talked me through setting up the WAP APN settings & the Internet came back.
Don't know how I lost them in the first place?
Hi there,
Maybe I haven't searched in the right area's, but I certainly have had a look around and couldn't find anything to match my exact issue.
I've just purchased an HTC Desire from Telstra in Australia, but I'm based in New Zealand and so didn't want or need all of the built in Telstra stuff so I rooted the device and installed the HTC official Froyo build for the device.
All worked perfectly and the upgrade was successful and all I needed to do was to add 2 APN's, one for mobile data and one for MMS.
Now they connect up perfectly when I manually connect them, but if I open up Internet for example, I'd have expected it to automatically connect up to 3G data if no wireless is available but it doesn't it just says no connection.
The mobile data APN is set as the default and has a green selection next to it when I look at them.
Am I missing something ?? I'm an Android newbie so please excuse this if it's something obvious and I'm being dumb !
Geeeez I'd have expected someone to have been able to answer what I'm sure is such a simple feature / expectation.
All my previous windows mobile devices just hooked up with WIFI if available and 3G if not, I didn't have to manually connect. As soon as a program needed access to 3G it just hooked up and did what it needed.
One thing I was hoping for in Android was that it would hook up as the windows mobile did, but would switch itself off if it wasn't used for a while......... something Windows Mobile didn't do so it would go flat pretty quick if you had it checking the web on a regular basis as it would just leave the 3G connection running even though there was no data flowing.
Come on people.......... do other peoples Android devices hook up automatically when required ??? or am I just expecting too much ?

Yes it does. Other than turning mobile internet off and on, I'm not even certain how you would "manually connect"?
Regards,
Dave
canman your Desire ought to automatically grab the APN settings with a SIM card installed, when you power it up. Failing that, once you manually enter correct settings it should automatically use those. There is no "manual connection" I know of, just enter the APN settings, or verify they are correct, and you never have to do this again. Double-check that the settings are correct. Also, if you are using wifi turn that off until you are sure that your mobile data is working ok. If you have done everything correctly and you are getting error messages, the phone is defective and should be returned.
Hello guys, I have a problem here. It seems that whenever I use internet on my desire HD, my network does not automatically connect. I have to manually turn on the mobile network in settings. Do u guys have this problem or which anyone can help?
If I understand you correctly you need to check the box for "always-on" data. Go to: MENU->SETTINGS->WIRELESS & NETWORKS->MOBILE NETWORKS->ENABLE ALWAYS-ON MOBILE DATA.
If you already have that checked I'm not sure what else is causing your data to not be always on, or are you talking about your wi-fi connection?
For that follow path to wireless & networks, but then go to: WI-FI SETTINGS->MENU (soft key by home button)->ADVANCED->WI-FI SLEEP POLICY->(select)NEVER.
I had the same problem.
I had to get a new sim because my old one was 10 years old and wasn't fully compatible with my new phone. It re-sent out over 500 texts from my outbox.
I had to ring my service provider. They said my sim card had a old vault version

And yes mobile data are aktivatet, the settings shows that the Data Service is off. But this is only so when I'm long in WiFi if I'm only for 20 minutes than it Connect to Mobile Data.

No APN reset don't work. Get Disconnect from Mobile Data Service. But I see that the settings says when it is connected Network Type EDGE. But if it gets Disconnected then it says GSM
Edit: Attached ScreenShots
Go to developer options and turn on "cellular data always active". I use that on my phone and it picks up the cell signal almost instantly when out of WiFi range. I am still getting about 5 hrs SOT. ,
Okay i think this is gonna work, instand Switch to Mobile Data. And what to you mean with SOT @calbrs
Today i downloadet the system Update 3.2.2 and I think this bug is patched with this update . Actually no issues with the Mobile Data connection
EDIT: NO DONT work same issue

I have exactly the same issue with my OP3 OOS 3.2.2, no root. It is really annoying
Me too, it isn't handling the switch between mobile data and Wi-Fi very well, not sure whether it's just one way, when i get to work and connect to work Wi-Fi I've ended up having to turn off mobile data to get it to use the Wi-Fi connection.

It is two way. That's my observation. I am very disappointed from the phone which has such problems with basic thing like wi-fi connection. I think this will be my first and last OP phone!
So has anyone found a solution to this issue? What kind of flagship killer has problems with such basic functionality?
I've read on other forums that some devices have a feature called Smart Network Switch, but I can't find that anywhere.
And I really don't think it's the APN...I've modified it in all possible ways and it's still happening...not switching automatically but starts working after switching to airplane mode and back. And the "aggressive" switch option doesn't work either.
If anyone has any idea about how to fix this or how it can be further investigated, please share, it's becoming really annoying. Thanks!

I activated the Mobile Data on in the Developer Options and for me it works pretty well.
The IPv4/IPv6 solution seemed to work. I still have issues when connecting to the wireless network (company wifi, with login credentials and the whole deal) but I used to have the same issue with my Nexus 5, meaning that I have to be disconnected from the mobile data to access the wifi network's login page (forgot to mention this in my previous post). Anyway, I'm happy that I don't have to switch to airplane mode anymore Thanks everyone!
Hi,
*Message edited now that I've done more testing *
Got a weird problem with mobile data on my Z1C:
If I'm on the cell network with no wifi, I don't get any notifications for Gmail, WhatsApp etc. As soon as I reconnect to wifi a bunch of notifications flood in. Data and notifications work normally on wifi and in an open app. I have a 2GB data plan and use <20% of this.
The exact same thing happens with my Vodafone UK SIM and Asda (EE) PAYG SIM, and when booted into Safe Mode.
Restrict Background Data is NOT set - neither the global setting nor the app-specific setting. "Set mobile data limit" is NOT set.
If I put either SIM into a different device, I receive my notifications fine.
I have tried re-downloading my Internet Settings from the "wireless and networks" screen and messed about with the Voda APN - followed Voda's online instructions and found some alternative ones online (e..g use the Internet APN rather than WAP one) but no change.
I used this phone successfully on O2 for two years and never had any trouble with data. I have recently (after leaving O2) rebuilt the phone to install new power flex and new screen - might that be related? I saw a post from someone who said his Z1C data connection keeps dropping and the only way to bring it back is to reseat the SIM multiple times.
The device isn't rooted and has never had Greenify installed.
I'm on KitKat.
Any suggestions please?
Update:
I never found a fix to this so ended up doing a factory data reset, which fixed the problem.
