My 2013 LTE N7 will not turn on from a fully off state with the power button(I use Wugs Toolkit to turn it on). It also will not "screen on" or "screen off" when on the home page. If you are in ANY app, the button works fine for turning the screen on/off.
I have done several hard resets, I have flashed several different versions of Android through Wugs Toolkit, tried booting in safe mode, replacing the power button assembly, everything I can think of...still, no workie...
The only thing I can think of I haven't tried, is a custom ROM. If I can't get any help here, it will be my next attempt.
The only other issue I have noticed is the auto screen rotation doesn't work all the time(seems to be working just fine right now?), but, it does change when I choose an app that is portrait or landscape specific. This issue is intermittent, but not near as big of a deal as the power button issue.
I fancy myself a fairly technologically knowledgeable guy, and I like to rebuild broken phones and tablets that I buy off eBay. I have come across lots of issues and thought I had seen just about everything, but I am stumped. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I have a Note 8.0 N5110 that has a strange problem which I don't really how to troubleshoot. When I am using it, the screen will go off just as if I short pressed the power button. I'll press the power button and swipe the screen to unlock. Everything is just as it was when the screen went off, but now the menu, power, and back buttons are non-functional. There are no lights or haptic feedback when I press them. My device was previously rooted before the 4.4.2 update and I had to use odin to install the upgrade. The issue didn't start for a couple of weeks after the update. Once the screen blanks and the buttons become non-functional, minutes later they will start working again; however, at some point, the screen will blank again and the cycle repeats. I have restored to factory settings with no luck resolving the issue. In fact, the screen will blank while I'm still in the setup phase. I really don't know what to try next to resolve this problem and my device is pretty much unusable at this point. Any thoughts or suggestions as to what I could try to fix this? Thanks in advance for any help - Jeff Gaiche

Couple questions.....do you have a case or screen protector on it? Sometimes these can interfere with the sensor and cause these type of issues.
I do have a case on the device. It's been cased pretty much since I purchased it. I guess it can't do any harm to remove it from the case, just to see if it's possibly interfering with a sensor somewhere. The issue does seem to have been sporadic at first. I'll give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion -- Jeff

Was just a thought. Otherwise it might be a defective sensor that has to be replaced. Not really sure.
I had the same issue. In my case the buttons still worked if I used the spen. I went back and wiped both the cache and Dalvik Cache*and it resolved the issue.

Hi all, my Nexus has an issue with the rotation of the screen. I've done some googling and downloaded the check my android app. The sensors missing are 1, 3 and 5. I have tried the following:
1. Factory reset the device
2. Attempted the pressure press on the 'n' and 's'
3. Opened the tablet and tried the tape and cardboard fix
4. Reseated the cable that I understand controls the orientation
I've done extensive research on the problem but no luck.
None of these options worked. I have contacted Asus but I'm pretty sure my warranty is up. How can I fix this please?
Hi,
Temporary solution for me: reboot in safe mode and test if orientation sensor works. If it does, reboot again in normal mode and you'll be fine ... But only for some time, as in a day or two rotation failed again.
To boot into safe mode, long press power button until power off message appears on screen, then long press button on screen until boot to safe mode button appears.
Hope it helps!
My n7 does that as well,
Truthfully All I do to fix it is (yes restart but that is annoying), just rotate it to where you want it, and give it a firm, but soft tap along the side of the device.
I found it wakes up the sensors and allows them to operate again
Hope this helps
Hi. It's a fairly common issue with our Nexus7.
My rotation sometimes get stuck also, so i installed an app called "Adaptive Rotation Lock" and problem solved.
So I've tried the safe mode, no good. I also tried the soft tap, no good. Even using adaptive rotation lock does not work. I'm thinking this is a hardware issue. l will have to call ASUS as the email support was complete ****. Thanks for the help all the same.
Assuming you do not have the rotation lock setting enabled I think I have a solution for you.
I had this same issue and I literally tried for 3 months trying to fix it. I finally found some obscure website with a fix. It involved opening up your tablet and basically "securing" one of the cables. After I did that I have not had a rotation problem anymore.
http://blog.daum.net/enue81/2
I seen that in my travels and tried to implement the same fixes, as it is in Chinese or something similar I tried to interpret what he did.
I used black electrical tape to secure the cable ends, then used a similar tape to secure the cable down, unfortunately that didn't work but there's every chance I did it wrong.
Can you please explain what you used?
I've also tried following these two youtube videos:
I didn't use anything. I just basically "pushed" the cables in more even though they did not appear to be loose or anything. It definitely did the trick. YMMV though.
Hello,
I just got a nexus 7 2013 that had a busted screen. It still showed data between the huge shatter, and didn't respond to my attempts to unlock it by swiping. I assumed it was just a bad screen and bought a replacement and installed it today.
The display worked, but the touchscreen didn't seem to be responding to me trying to swipe to unlock. I eventually figured out that although I couldn't unlock it, the dialogue menus from long pressing the power button did work! Well, some, anyway. I can change sound modes, airplane mode, and access the power off dialogue, but am only able to select cancel from the two options, though ok is not grayed out. I can also click anywhere outside the dialogue and it will back out of it, leading me to assume that the screen's hardware is intact and functioning.
I then hard reset it via stock recovery and am now at the welcome screen prompting a language selection with the big right arrow, unable to press it but still able to interact with the power off and cancel options of the power menu.
Recovery says its running KOT49H.
I've used NRT to reflash the same build from a stock download, and I'm still stuck at the same spot.
What the heck can I do?

I would assume that the new digitizer is still bad. There are lots of them on sale on Ebay where the seller would assure the merchandise has been "tested" before shipping. In reality, they might not be. If you happen to have one with spotty functionality, there's nothing you can do with the software to cure it. It would not respond in some areas, period. If you only replace the digitizer instead of the whole LCD/touchscreen assembly, chances are you have a partially bad one. I've never come across one good one myself.
So I activated Universal Switch on S6 Edge to check it out, something went wrong in the settings (long story short, got a pop up while setting it up), now screen unresponsive.
It works, I just get this blue horizontal line scanning the screen and nothing else but the power button and home button works. Tried safe mode, no bueno. How can I disable US feature without resetting to factory or at least no data wipe (if possible!)?
Android 5.0, rooted with pingpong, no custom recovery, knox 0x0.
All help is appreciated.

Fixed!
The way I had fixed this is by holding down the power button, both up and down sound buttons, and the home button until it restarted. When the device turned back on it gave the option to turn the setting off. Hope it helped!

Hi,
I have been struggling with Universal Switch on a Samsung S5 Neo. I switched it on, but was never able to switch it off again.
These are findings so far:
-> Did a factory reset using "Sound Up", "Home" and "Power" button simultaneous.
-> The device comes back and wants to configure itself again.
-> I restored my settings from Google, but this immediately brought back "Universal Switch"
-> Factory Reset again and configured the device, but told Google that I want to use it as a "New Device".
-> Now I can use my device in a proper way.
-> In Google Play Store I find all my Apps which were linked to my account and reinstalled them and I am back in business again.
-> Took me half a day to sort this out.
The programmer who designed and programmed this should be hung and shot and poisoned, because this is absolute Crapware.
Hope this helps for all the others who are suffering.
You can also push the home button three times and it should turn it off.
thank u ur the best
Ok, so i have exactly the same problem except my home button doesn't work
Anyone one know how to sort this without having to take it in to a store?
I was faced with this problem before and looked everywhere and couldnt find a fix. This was a while ago. So I dont remember what I did to clear it. I was cleaning off the screen and touched the home button as I was wiping it off and the problem began again.... I just came across your comment because all the others failed. I pressed the home button 3 times quickly and the blue lines stopped scrolling. In addition, I went over the accessibility and I turned off the "Universal Switch" option as much as the option allows. I hate this function. I do not use it or need it (for my needs). I hope I can remember what to do next time this happens. I swore to myself I would remember last time, but apparently that wasnt a guarantee. This time, I will write it down and put is somewhere I know I will find it next time I see these nefarious blue lines scrolling. Hopefully I wont see it again since I disabled it more than it was to begin with. Thank you ever so for commenting. You saved me a lot of frustration!
great fix

Good afternoon all, I'm wondering if anyone can help.
My Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 developed an issue with the screen (after travel - where it may have been knocked around a little)...
The tablet boots up fine and the screen appears to work normally.
However once the screen times out and switches off, or the screen is switched off by the power button, it is not possible to get the screen back on.
It appears that it's just the backlight that is not coming back on?.... as the screen responds to touch (you can here the pin code buttons being clicked).... but can't see anything at all on the screen.
Rebooting the tablet from here makes the screen come back on as normal - so as it works like this and just does not come back on after being 'on staandby' I thought it might be a software issue... I did a full factory reset but unfortunately the problem is still exactly the same.
I've had the tablet to bits to see if I could see any cables loose or anything - but everything looks ok - I think (Although it's the first time I've had one apart and wasn't 100% sure which cables were for the screen)
There was nothing obviously disconnected or loose.
Has anyone come across this fault before or can anyone provide any more guidance? Maybe a particular cable to check or how to check it?
Many Thanks,
Tom Leitch
I have the same issue, but I was able to fix it entering the factory mode and pressing the sleep button. That was possible using the calculator and entering (+30012012732+ and then entering *#0*# to get to test mode.
The problem now is that I'm using lineageOS so I don't know how to get to that menu or trigger that sleep button. Anyone?
