Supported USB 3g dongles - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

Sorry if this what asked before, couldn't find a matching thread
The price i see for 3G dongle out of ebay/aliexpress varies from 10$ to 35$, some says 'works with android - but check with your tablet seller', some says "works only with XYZ" and some sell it (the most expensive alternative) as dedicated to certain headunit.
is there something i better check before ordering one to work on my MTCC?

looks like a good item but its impossible to buy this in my area...
i wonder if it easy to make this by yourself??
if so i would like shematics for it ... any ideas??
Not sure why you wouldn't be able to buy one of those in your area. You can buy those virtually anywhere in the US at least. Just about any place that carries electronics carries them. They only transmit over a distance of a few feet. I would bet that if you google for a short range fm transmitter you would easily find schematics for one.

there are alternative products to this that do the axact same job
and maybe cheaper too. in the uk where i'm living now it's only become legal to have and operate one in the last 6 to 8 months.
but I picked mine up off the internet just fine.
as far as building one,yes there are many fm transmitter schematics out there but most only do mono. these baby's are stereo
and cost to build yourself for the more complex stereo model would outweigh buying one even with shipping
they were ilegal where i live (well if you got goverment reg's as a radiostation it was legal )
but nobody will ever know being they dont transmit with much power
so i just bought one off ebay and it was ship'd from us without costing too much
was pretty cheap too cost 33$ or something
the law have since been changed and i can buy them in local stores
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=166893
this was the one i got
too bad the display got a bit defect though kinda diff to adjust it
i found one store but it was 100$ it is too much for thing that costs nothing in ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...efwidgettype=cross_promot_widget&isfrommerc=1
that type only have 4 band to pick from unlike the tunecastII which have many this can be a better option if radio stations where you live use all those 4
Guys,
We've tested most of the FM transmitters.. The $1 units on eBay perform like the price suggests - Don't waste your time... The Belkin Tunecast units are cheap enough and available in virtually every region. eg. (for the Aussies).
http://store.pressdigital.com.au/tunecast-mobile-transmitter-p-2020.html
They WORK.. There are some new long range units coming onto the market but regulations limit output power to under 100mw in most countries.
Have fun

Car Dock and Desktop cradle

Any word on where we can pick those bad boys up too or if they are even out yet?
They aren't available yet, and the Sprint reps I've talked to didn't know when they were coming. I would assume with the phone release since RS is doing their accessories credit with pre-order. Just speculation though.
FWIW, I've talked to 2 of my local radioshacks (in Oklahoma) that said they were pretty sure they would have 0 accessories associated with the EVO on release, and expect you to use it on generic junk (they phrased it a bit different).
Also, one of the stores told me I had to redeem the credit with my EVO purchase. Lameface.
My rep told me at Radio Shack in Statesboro, GA that they would have Evo 4G accessoies in on or before the 4th, and if you didn't use your $20 then it converts to gift card.
If it doesn't covert to a gift card you can buy a bluetooth headset then return it later for store credit or exchange it for something else. I talked to the Radio Shack people as well and they are very unsure what they will have because they don't have their inventory yet. The last guy I talked to said he was certain that they would have car chargers and maybe one type of case.
if you find a good car dock / cradle, post your find pls.
Seidioonline.com has both coming along with batteries.
Apparently Best Buy has received all the accessories. They're saving them for launch day, though.

Laptop Dock for $399

The Motorola Store and AT&T are both list the Lapdock for $399 now. I thought the non-bundled price was supposed to be $599 with a $100 rebate.
Think they heard complaints about the pricing?
And it looks like AT&T is offering an additional $100 VISA gift card as a mail-in rebate for a grand total of $299.
Where did you guys find that deal. I logged in with my premier account & I don't see those offers. Any links?

ATT Link for the $299 Deal:
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...298&q_manufacturer=&q_model=#fbid=Svo2NsmSMZW
This is pretty cool. I was against getting the dock when it required 2 years of tethering. $299 is till about $100 too steep in my opinion. But I am almost swayed by the removal of the tethering requirement.*
* I am aware that the FF browser will still require tethering. I have high hopes that we can hack that requirement out of it.
Att still shows tether required
I just went to the AT&T link you posted and it still says:
Super thin MOTOROLA LAPDOCK™ with webtop app merges ATRIX capabilities with the convenience of a laptop. The webtop app launches automatically when your phone is docked to get all the ease of a sleek laptop computer and the capabilities of your phone in one smart package. Super thin so it travels easily. The 4GB DataPro with Tethering plan is required to use this accessory.
Item SKU: 65242(MOTOROLA LAPDOCK (TM) for MOTOROLA ATRIX (TM)4G)
But, it does show the $299 price after the $100 VISA rebate card.

Correct - I think the laptop dock still checks for a tethering plan. But the way I read the rebate is that it's not conditional on acceptance of a 2yr data contract.
Dock is now priced at $350 direct from motorola.com. I paid $399 for it from them yesterday. not happy.

I'm gonna wait a week or two, this is definitely going down to 200.
I think the dock does not worth the price even if it is 299. It has no real OS environment in there and cannot used to compile code. So I guess I will wait.

There is a coupon code for 25% off accessories at the moto store and it includes the laptop dock.
code: OCNNSB25
(I tried to post a link to the dock in the store but it wouldn't let me casue I havent posted here much. Been a member since back in my mda days but always read and learn but never post)
my order came up under 300 with shipping and tax.
Item Subtotal: $359.99
Shipping & Handling: $4.00
Promotion Applied -$90.00
Before Tax Total: $273.99
Estimated Tax: $19.18
Order Total: $293.17
By the way the multimedia dock with keyboard, mouse and remote comes to 120.99 plus tax.
And thanks to droid life for bringing attention to this code. There was a bug allowing you to get 25% off a zoom with this but it has since been fixed. Still works on all moto accessories like it was originally intended to.
i *might* buy the lapdock if its $200 or under
no way in hell i'll pay a penny over that.
Just so you guys know, there ilare multiple ways to get around the tethering and people are doing it over wifi and data at no extra cost.
This is why I'm planning on buying one this weekend or later next week; thanks for posting the links.
Rooted/ROM Captivate (For Sale)

I went to my local ATT store yesterday and tried all kinds of permutations with my phone in the display docks. I even fixed their phone and multimedia dock as it wasn't pulling up webtop mode when the phone was inserted Here are my results:
Over wireless (ATT in-store access point): both docks will pull up webtop and firefox will have access to internet.
Without wireless (default APN): both docks will pull up webtop but FF does not have access to internet.
Without wireless (modified APN): both docks will pull up webtop, FF access sometimes works, sometimes not. Didn't spend too much time on this.
Since I'm not all that interested in having the laptop dock, I bought the MM dock. I'm also going to never be somewhere without wireless with the MM dock, so I don't care too much about whether it works without wireless.
At first when I got home, I had the same problem as their dock was, where only media mode would show up as an option when the phone was inserted. I re-paired the mouse and re-inserted the power cord in the dock and it was all working. HTH
the coupon code is not working anymore
Update: You can buybit from the Motorola site for 359.99 now.
I like the way this is going; that pretty much eleminates the need to buy it as a bundle now (depending on how much you paid for the phone)

Update UPDATE: blah I waited too long now it's back up to 499 $$$ definitely not getting one now.

Recommended eBay seller for genuine accessories !

Just want to update you, if you searching for original Samsung accessories, and more, like white housing. I just searched for MHL adapter and got to this German guy http://myworld.ebay.com/rb-sale-s/?_trksid=p4340.l2559
I actually hate, hate, the eBay searching engine, even if you use *global. ,if seller not specify your country on every item, and only on some, it's a big headache to find what you searching for, and eventually have to pay more, outside of eBay, I never got it, why sellers specify different cost on some country, I'm a seller to, but not use eBay as a job, so maybe I blame them for nothing, anyway just check his page, have some good stuff.

Yea I found this guy in the white housing thread since he sells them. And I was surprised too that he didnt show up in my searches since I was looking for global searches (while using ebay.ca) and he never came up but apparently he still ships worldwide.
Although I never bought from him because the prices get ridiculously high. But he still has good products though so I keep a look out at what he has to offer.

[Edited 11/26 - More Calls to Samsung] No more GSM Desk Vehicle/Dock in GP Store

Update Nov 26, 2012:
I apologize that I got everyone's hopes up about these products being available through Samsung and I'm upset that this is all happening. However, I'm more upset that I was either misled by Samsung with wrong product information or that the products do indeed exist and are just sitting in boxes in a warehouse. Either way, I'm taking it upon myself to take this as far as I need too for verification that these items are not in the possession of Samsung. I'm still convinced that the Associate I talked to on Nov 13th was knowledgeable and understood what he was relaying back to me and had indeed found the products Google was previously selling. When an individual confirms multiple times the phone I have, the accessories' make, model, wording, and pricing, and even calculates the shipping and total price for both products - it has me very curious as to how he found them.
SO...I called Samsung again today and was on the phone for an hour and a half explaining the situation, the wording, the confirmation call from Google, etc to an Associate. After I'm sure I exhausted her...she admitted she could not help me any further I asked to go up the next level. I told her I'm willing to go as high as Samsung will let me to find out why I was quoted pricing with items that matched - verbatim - what Google gave me for my phone. I've left a voice-mail with the Samsung Accessories Supervisor and took down his name and extension so that if I do not receive a call within 48 hours (standard business etiqute in my opinion) I'll be calling again.
At the very least I owe it to this community to do my due diligence and inquire information as hard as I can (legally, professionally, and politely) to work towards a true answer on all of this.
Again I apologize that I provided information that led to some anticipated excitement only to result in frustration. I'll update with any information I'm able to get.

Original Post from October 31, 2012
Just last Thursday I saw the vehicle dock with Pogo pins (for the GSM GN) was available in the Google Play Store. Being the stupid me I decided to sleep on it and buy it later or put it on my Christmas list. I should have known with the upcoming Nexus 4 announcement - that something would change...and it did. All three docks (Vehicle Dock with pogo pins, Portrait Desk Dock with USB charging, and Landscape Desk Dock with pogo pins) are no longer sold through Google Play.
I talked to Google Play Device customer support today for 30 minutes getting as much information on it as possible. (And I must say the customer support was amazing). Here is was I was told from the rep (which could or could not be correct)
All Docks and Vehicle mounts were sent back to Samsung after Monday's announcement. (She had to put me on hold to search around for this information)
Samsung should still be selling the Vehcile mount with the pogo pins even though it's not listed on their website (at least I can't find it)
Samsung should also have the desktop dock with the pogo pins (couldn't find that on their website either but I didn't spend too much time by this piont)
The Google Rep gave me a number to call at Samsung (Not sure who will be on the other end) who she says should be able to sell me these devices if I wanted them. I'm going to probably call them tomorrow, don't have time today, and see what all I can find out.
If anyone else is interested in the phone number that the Google Play Rep gave me PM me and I'd be glad to send it to you.
If anyone has any stores they come across that are selling these two docks (Vehicle and Desk dock with pogo pins), and not the crappy USB docking, please post them.
I'll post any updates that I find out on this in case other are interested just like me. I was really hoping for some great Christmas Presents so I didn't have to spend it out of pocket.

While overall the support I've recieved from Google over the years has been very positive -- it's interesting you bring this up. I asked the rep I talked too specifically for the model number and the response was "GSM Galaxy Nexus Vehicle Dock". She was really nice and had been more than accommodating during our talk so I didn't feel the need to do a "you're joking right?" response.
I'll look around and if I come up with the Samsung model number I'll post it here.

Do you happen to still have a record of that in your Amazon account that would have the model number?
Alright after lots of digging around online I'm 99% sure the GSM Vehicle dock with the pogo pins is model number: ECS-K1F2BE made by Samsung.
It took me awhile but I finally found one on amazon here:
http://www.amazon.com/Holder-ECS-K1F2BE-Samsung-I9250-Nexus/dp/B006GJ5S2E
I also finally found it on Samsung's website:
http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/mobile-phone/mobile-phone/accessories/ECS-K1F2BEGSTD?subsubtype=other-multimedia
But BeerChameleon is correct; prices have really gone up. Now I really regret not buying one from Google just last week.
Just in case someone wanted to try and get it cheaper than the $80 on Amazon.

I went to get the pogo dock for my GSM Galaxy Nexus on the Play store a few months ago and it said that they were sold out. It said "coming soon" though. So, I put in my email address to be notified when it's available. Then, like you said, it disappeared. They are on Ebay for twice the price. How hard can it be to get these to customers?

I'm just gonna wait until Samsung starts liquidation... it should be soon enough.
I finally got around to calling Samsung today regarding the vehicle and desk dock. I explained to the rep that I have a GSM GN and had already talked directly with Google. Google referred me to them because they sent their inventory back to Samsung.
After some searching he did confirm that Samsung does have both docks in stock even though they are not listed on their website. You'll have to call in to make a purchase. He quoted me:
$19.99 for the Desktop Dock (with pogo pins) + tax and shipping.
$35.99 (I think, I was driving and lost my note) for the Vehicle Dock (with pogo pins) + tax and shipping.
I'm pretty sure the $35 for the vehicle mount is correct as I remember he mentioning the total for both would be around $55. (and some change).
I specifically had him double check that both of these devices came with the pogo pin connections and he confirmed they did. He said by noting to Samsung you have the GSM GN they will default to these docks.
Shipping was actually very reasonable. To ship to Texas it was around $3 for standard 5 business day shipping.
Anyway, If I remember right these prices are much cheaper than what Google was selling them for. I'm sure Samsung wants to get rid of them. If anyone happens to talk to Samsung and gets different prices please post it here. Or, if someone finds them listed at another retailer for cheaper let us all know.
Hopefully they still have some after Christmas when I'll have some extra cash to spend.
I just called Samsung at 1-888-987-4357 Accessory sales (option 3 then 1 than 2) and the only desktop dock that they have in the system is for the Verizon I515 GN.
The Samsung number for the GSM GN I9250 Desktop dock is EDD-D1F2BEGSTD.
If anybody gets one from Samsung let us know where you called and who you spoke to.
Here is a post with all of the accessories that were available for the GSM GN http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372908

I don't know, maybe someone else will but my guess is no unless there is a way to adjust the depth of the base the phones rests on. I have a Moto Atrix 2 with the desktop dock and it's made to adjust the height of the USB port so it can work with a case. But I don't think the samsung dock for the GSM GN does that.

Just an FYI, Samsung offered me the same equivalent as they offered you, but the part number he read off to me was for a Nexus S.
And the desktop dock at that price is a sideways USB charger...no POGO.
Of the part numbers I gave him, he showed nothing in stock. Looks like ill be buying a used one on Ebay.

Sure thing. I called: 1-888-987-4357 (same number as posted earlier): I selected Option: 3 for mobile accessories and then I remember selecting another option (probably 1 like the Slupie mentioned) but then on the third option I didn't select anything. I just held on until it told me it would transfer me.
After talking with the Rep on the phone (on Tuesday) - I was very confident that they had both docks (Vehicle and Dock) with the pogo pins. In fact, when I asked for the model number he explained to me that because he had to look it up manually they did not have a model number in their system for it. He explained that they have it listed as "GSM Galaxy Nexus Vehicle Dock" and "GSM Galaxy Nexus Desk Dock" and the wording aligned exactly with what I had written down from my conversation with Google. [I'll even double check this on both my notes when I get home tonight]
I made sure to reiterate that I had a GSM Galaxy Nexus purchased through Google. That Google was selling the 2 docks on their store until recently. And then explained that Google confirmed with me that their system shows all products were sent back to Samsung and then they (Google) proceeded to give me the number at Samsung to call.
He did have to put me on hold for 2-3 minutes until he came back. I asked if he could look at quantity in stock but he explained he was unable to see that. However, he felt confident that they wouldn't be running out of them any time soon (take that with a grain of salt).
Could it be that they sold out of them already and only had a short supply? - Possibly, I suppose.
Either way, before we hung up I went through all the information with him again and explained I needed to be sure these were the correct accessories. I reiterated and asked him to confirm:
These are accessories for the GSM Galaxy Nexus - had him affirm not Sprint or Verizon. And, the most recent model sold by Google Play Store until the Nexus 4.
The Vehicle dock included car charger, it plugged into base, and had pogo pins.
The Vehicle dock was specifically for the "GSM Galaxy Nexus" sold recently by Google. And that it would not work with Verizon or Sprint models.
The Desk Dock included charger and was landscape with pogo pins.
The Desk Dock was specifically for the "GSM Galaxy Nexus" again...sold recently by Google
I can't even iterate how many times I used the phrase "pogo pins" in this conversation.
Anyway, I hope a GN user gets through to a Rep with knowledge and is willing to take the chance on these. If finances weren't so tight coming into Christmas season I would risk the purchase in a heartbeat. I take the stance of: You send me the wrong part off bad information = you pay return shipping and I don't pay restocking fee. I take it as far up as I have to when things like that happen.

damn it, samsung USA do not ship to canada and Samsung Canada do not have it in their system (even with the part number).
Anyone could do it for me (I would pay everything including the shipping charge to my home, i would be using paypal) ?

If we get this all sorted out and confirmed they do indeed have them maybe we can work something out. Using paypal I'm willing to work with you knowing it's a system designed to help both parities. But, I won't promise anything and we'll look at crossing that bridge when (if) we get there.

I just called Samsung at 1-888-987-4357 Accessory sales (option 3 then 1 than 2) and the only desktop dock that they have in the system is for the Verizon I515 GN.
The Samsung number for the GSM GN I9250 Desktop dock is EDD-DF2BEGSTD.
If anybody gets one from Samsung let us know where you called and who you spoke to.
Here is a post with all of the accessories that were available for the GSM GN http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372908

Not saying you're lying - but could the model number you wrote down for the desktop dock be wrong? Or maybe a mistype in your post? I used to have the US model numbers written down somewhere and that doesn't look like it. In fact, if I Google the model number you reference the only results in Google are this thread.
Just want to make sure we don't send other users on a wild goose-chase for a model number that is incorrect.
