I was not aware that rooting would be much easier on 5.1.1 so i updated my phones software after being annoyed with putting of the update every day. I have searched all over the internet for a safe way to revert back to 5.1.1 from 6.0.1 and most of the stuff i found was simply for the s6. If any of you know if its possible to flash back or of a way to flash back or a link to a thread i might've missed that may help i would appreciate it. Thanks! (btw im on N910V and Verizon if that makes any difference)
find the firmware and flash it via Odin. there's a bunch of threads that could link you to the appropriate files.

So just to be clear, would it be as simple as putting into download mode and flashing it? And if the thread is meant for a different phone but is reverting from the same version i am running would it still work? Also would i have to worry about killing my SD card or is the safer than rooting a phone? Sorry for the questions I am just quite interested in getting this solved and i don't know who to ask.

not really sure what you mean by your second question, but I wouldn't be flashing anything that's made for another phone. but yeah, it's pretty simple and straightforward...and I don't think there's much risk, unless if you were to unplug your phone half way through the flash or something. it doesn't corrupt your SD card like the rooting process does. make sure you back up any of your important data beforehand.

You will however need to root and unlock bootloader on marshmellow even.if u do it on lollipop. Everroot won't work. There is a guide on.the forum on.the subject
Hey guys, before I start, I have spent hours researching all the files I need for this, but I am rusty as I haven't looked at rooting since I did 5.1.1. I have about 4 links, that all explain how to root to 6.0.1, but my question is: Most all of them say you need to rollback to 5.1.1 and then start the root process from there, or start with changing the marshmallow bootloader first, etc. If I am already rooted on 5.1.1 can I just use flashfire and simply use the stock 6.0.1 firmware, or do I still need to follow all instructions? Where exactly do I need to start if I am already rooted/unlocked on 5.1.1?
Here are the links I have been looking at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/note-4-verizon-bootloader-unlock-t3358913

I just need someone to point out which link I need to use and where I need to start since I am already rooted. If I don't have to start at the beginning, I would rather not waste time doing stuff I don't need to. I thank you for the help.

After I complete the entire process, can I just use titanium backup and restore my backup to have all of my apps/settings back on my newly rooted device?
Looks like I ****ed up somewhere, and now I am on a non-rooted 6.0.1 .....ffs
I assume now I have to redo everything and drop down back to 5.1.1 rooted?
i bought one of the straight talk samsung galaxy j3 phones from walmart on black friday for $50 thinking i was going to use it on my tmobile account. i have been scouring the net trying to find a recovery image or an app that can root or unlock this phone and have had no success. ive tried the usual stuff, kingroot etc, and the stuff that is out for other models of the j3 dosent work either (j320a j320fn, etc) i really cant even seem to find and real info on the phone which is weird because i dont think the phone is even that new. does anyone have any info on this or can point me in the right direction? even info on how to force, (or trick ) straight talk into unlocking it would be acceptable.

I may have a root method. There is a SuperSu zip that is supposed to root when flashed with Odin. I can't find a custom recovery yet though and this is my main phone, though I could switch over to an old Droid Bionic I recently rebuilt.

I did do something very similar, or kind of similar recently. After installing Lineage 14.1 in order to get root you have to flash a superSu zip. However this was on an S5 so I'm not sure if it would work on this model. I wish I wouldn't have lost my J, I may be able to help more. However for less than these phones cost, you can have an S5 or S6 (occasionally I even run into S7s for under 100. Even a 2 or 3 year old flagship is far above these vl series. (and they're easy to root plus have tons of custom ROMs, mods etc.)
Earlier today I had a VZW N910V Dev Ed. I tried flashing firmware through odin and now it is borked.

After following the guide above, you will gain root on BPA1.
Then from there, you'll use this guide by hsbadr, to upgrade to marshmallow. It's a long process, but it's worth it. Also, make sure that you have a mobile data connection during the marshmallow upgrade, because your Wi-Fi won't work. After you've update to CPJ2 using this guide, you can then flash EmotionOS.

I forgot to tell you that if Kingo Root doesn't work, try King Root. Also, if you get a root successful message, don't even use root checker, as long as you know you've got root. Just move into the adb steps, temp root is very touchy and can reboot your phone at any time, so try to go through the adb steps quickly.

Used king root and learned to be real quick.
I then pasted all those ABD commands and got twrp installed but when I rebooted, I got boot loops. :-/
so I booted into recovery and wound up installing Jasmine rom 4.3 ( Mjust happened to have on my original old micro sd ) to avoid starting all over, and it seems to have taken!
Looks like I still have root.
Seems to run fine without installing oscar Kernel and SUper SU, should I still install those two?
Can I uninstall king root?
Im thinking I should make a backup through twrp, what do you think?
Thnaks again, can't wait to proceed to Hsbard's 7.1.1!

Yeah, you should probably make a backup in twrp, just so you don't have to start over again if anything goes wrong. Were you running 5.1.1 or 6.0.1 before you flashed JasmineROM?

Seems to run fine without installing oscar Kernel .

You're welcome, please post a screenshot of your About Phone section, I want to see what build and baseband you're on, and yes, you can uninstall King Root. The boot loop that you had after rooting could have been fixed by pulling the battery and or SD card.

Okay, so it seems like you're on the correct baseband, however, you probably shouldn't have flashed JasmineROM after rooting. You skipped the second guide that I posted. After you root stock 5.1.1 BPA1, you then need to upgrade to 6.0.1 from there before you can flash EmotionOS. I'm not entirely sure if you can still use the second guide that I posted since you're no longer on stock BPA1. For the most part, I think that you can, so if you're willing to risk it, use that second guide I posted to update to 6.0.1, this is also where you'll be needing a data connection since the your Wi-Fi won't be working.

Honestly, I have no idea what the problem could be, as I'm on T-Mobile and not Verizon. Try asking around the CM13 thread and see if another VZW user has the same issue.
First of all, let me say hello to everyone. I read the forums a lot but rarely post. This forum is a Great resource!! Thank you al for making it what it is.
Now, my issue. I have a Galaxy Note 4 SH-N910V which is currently running on 6.0.1.. From what I've read, I need to downgrade that to 5.1.1 just so I can root it, and then go from there. The problem is, I have to have root to flash a custom ROM. I seem to be stuck in a vicious cycle .
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get around this?
I want to root and then install a custom rom, but as you can see, I'm somewhat new to flashing and all that, and truth be told, I'm probably getting in over my head. It's all good though, i'muse to learning things the hard way
Thanks in advance!

You're correct, you will need to flash the bpa1 firmware for 5.1.1 and get your bootloader unlocked on Lp first. Here's a pretty good thread on the Lp unlock process and for downgrading your bootloader you can use this download. After you get unlocked on Lp, you can move forward to the unlock process for mm.
Cool, thanks. I've got it flashed to 5.1.1 but havent done anything with thee bootloader..

Hi Michael... I'm in the same boat as you... How did you flash the 5.1.1 rom?
I used the guide at the link below but I stopped at step 9 when I got stuck in a bootloop. I later found that a bootloop at that step is normal. You just pull your battery and leave it out for a minute and then fire it back up and it's ok.
Gonna give it another shot today.

Watch this guide fellas... https://youtu.be/cfpehEkhfyg
Most of the forums on the note 4 on xda are very confusing because they include firmware/files you do not want to use to root and unlock.

You shouldn't get caught in a bootloop until you unlock. And that will be caused by the sd card. The process looks more daunting than it is. If you need any help, let me know.
I think I have a problem. I got to step 9 and got the bootloop so I panicked and flashed a recovery for 6.0.1. The phone works fine, but when I try to do a system restore it boots to recovery mode.it that top, in yellow, it shows 6.0.1. BUT,,, when I look at the "about phone", it does show that I'm on 5.1.1.
Should I continue with the process from step 9? Or should I just do a system update and start over with a fresh 6.0.1?
Edit,,,I should add that, I am able to get root with kingroot, but the phone reboots after a few minutes and root is gone.
