Does anybody else have this problem or have a solution for disappearing phone contacts. I have the Le 1 Pro US with the original 11s rom. I start out with over 50 phone contacts, but soon it dwindles down to 6 or 7. I've read about this problem with other phones, such as Samsung. So, I think it might be a bug with the Android operating system. It's a good thing I have a backup vcf file, so it's easy to restore my contacts. But, it's an annoyance if I have to make a quick call.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Search XDA forum for letv 1 pro us stock ROM ... Update your phone as per instructions in comments......It will sort out problem.....Also make sure you are storing contacts on Google and not phone.....This can be done in settings....Lastly also install another contacts app from playstore....So many are available now
I think I solved the problem. After you've restored your contacts, go to Settings>Account Management>Google>your Google account>Contacts>turn off sync. After doing this my contact list is stable for a few days now.

Hello. I've checked the previous pages and didn't see anyone having the same question. That probably means i am the only one so dumb in here)))
Basically, last night i was playing with overclocking my XDA Orbit being insured that all the contacts are syncronized. At some point (273MHz) the device stopped responding so i had to soft reset it. Later i found that nothing got lost BUT my contact list with all the numbers. Next, I open Outlook and see that none of them were saved there. WTF is ActiveSync is doing then? And another problem is that i cannot use backup of my old WM2003 contact list because there is no such option as Backup/Restore in WM6. Any ideas? Please,HELP. I really need those numbers back...

The contacts in the Orbit are gone...
The contacts in the Outlook not sync'ed hence they too gone...
Cannot import 2003 backup into WM6 - different structure
Option 1 - if you have old outlook backup - you can re-import into new outlook file and they re-sync again
Option 2 - Manually enter all the numbers you remember
Option 3 - Nothing
Basically the fact is if you cannot see the contacts in the fone - they are gone! If you cannot see in outlook they are gone - only option is to get from another source!
You mentioned 2003 backup - what did you take the backup with? Maybe you can still read using the same software and try to retrieve the number - or use another 2003 model to import into it
The backup was taken using Backup/Restore feature of WM2003. But I really wonder now, WHY Microsoft decided not to include this option in WM6? If anything happens, you're properly f****d, like me now.
BTW, WM2003 Contact list backup can be accessed with Notepad, but the data looks a bit messy that way.

Am not in the same situation...was letting you know your options....
Good luck with the retrieval...
don't take it personally, i meant "You" in general
I analyzed the chain of events and it seems like i found the root of the problem. It's was nothing to do with overclocking or the device itself. Its ActiveSync. As I usually don't use Outlook, the contact list there was always empty. And this blessed child of Microsoft instead of copying contacts from XDA to Outlook did it other way round thus erasing everything on the phone. Don't know what to do, laugh or cry, but it's so... so... ridicilous!
Thanx for your help anyway, much appreciated
I'm sort of stabbing in the dark here, but my issue is this: When I open my received text messages, the peoples contacts that I have sync'ed with facebook should show their photo. This is how it worked when I first got my phone.
I have done a few factory resets since then, and yesterday loaded a new rom. I loaded my contacts that I had backed up to SD card.
For some strange reason ALL of my contacts have hiphens ( - ) in their phone numbers. I think this is causing some texts to not be delivered.
Also, when in the messages window, all of my contacts photos wont be displayed. But if I go to the people directory they are displayed fine.
Now, is there a way I can delete the cache or similar without factory resetting the rom?
I have rom manager, and I used this to reboot into recovery before loading a new rom. In there was options for deleting cache and things (to be honest I didn't know which was the correct one so I did them all before loading a new rom). Now when I go into rom manager it just loads a sign like this a!
so I cannot try that again.
Thanks for any help given!!
Why did you back up to memory card if they're going to be saved to the cloud via your Google account?
Otherwise I have no answer for your question.

I had all sorts of problems with the facebook integration.
The magor one I had was that the phone would automatically use the facebook phone number and not the one in the phone which was very annoying when people put fake numbers in their facebook profile or don't update for their new number and also all the numbers had a +44 on them which meant my phone wouldn't dial them at all!
My advice is remove your facebook account and see what happens. The try adding it again. If the problems persist then keep it removed. Life will be easier without your phone and facebook contacts being merged and updated all the time... trust me!
Phil
Thanks for your replies.
Regarding the backing up of contacts, does anyone recommend a GOOD FREE app for backing them up? I simply do not wish to use Google to back up my contacts. They are personal, and I would prefer to keep them on the phone. Google contacts is pointless to me.
If you would like Google contacts I have no say but I would rather not have my contacts spread out all over the place, with different versions etc...
It's going to take me forever to edit everyones phone number, and each time I flash a ROM I'll need to do it again..
Worst still, since flashing PaYs ROM the Google sync actually worked for the very first time since receiving the phone - So, now Google contacts has all of my contacts but the phone numbers have dashes is ( - ) which is wrong. Like the person above me, us in the UK have issues when dialing strange numbers!
Google contacts is fine, means you never have to worry about them being backed up as it's automatic...otherwise you've gotta sync them with yur email client on your PC which is hassle...I was a stickler for backing up to Outlook but now use Google...
The dashes come up after restoring contacts from the SD card...don't know why it does it but it can't be removed (another reason not to back up to sd card)
while in the htc people app, just press menu button then you can export your contacts to your sd card, which you can then later on import again.

You asked for a way to back up your contacts without syncing them with google contacts, I provided you with a way to save them without having to use any app.
(it's the dutch flag, just made the World cup soccer finale)

Fair play, but it is this way of backing up contacts that is giving us the problems as per post #1 and this discussion

Congrats on the world cup. I have stopped paying attention since we lost.
sorry my bad, i'll let you guys get back at it
Try contact2sim
Limitation of course is the small sim memory for numbers only.
Astro file manager has some backup capabilities. HTC sync....

Hello, good afternoon. I come to present you two problems that I have, or rather good one is a doubt.
The 1 st is that I have all my contacts linked to facebook on your phone, and would like to know the way to save or synchronize in gmail and I leave everything I have now connected, with its picture of facebook your email and others when making a wipe or restore the rom.
The 2 nd and this is the little problem is that sometimes when I get a text message appears to me that I have a new text message even after have read and erased and this does not go away unless you delete all sms from this contact.
I would appreciate to give me a solution. Greetings
Nobody know anything of this?

Hi,
I don't know about the first one ( I'm searching ) but the second is a known bug, unfortunately. It is resolved in custom ROMs like Android Revolution HD ( tested ) and all others ( I guess..never tried the other roms ).
I have 3 problems that are really annoying me in G4.
1- can't find an option to save new contacts in Google contacts by default.
2- whenever I install WhatsApp I have duplicated numbers not in phone app but I do have them in SMS app (stock/yataa/handcent).
3- some contacts refuse to sync over bluetooth to my car. I tried to figure what's different between them and the ones who sync and can't find any common denominator.

For future reference to anyone with same problem, how I managed to solve them:
1-To use google contacts as default for new contacts you have to select to show only google contacts in the setting of contacts app.
2- This one took a bit of time but after using this app to delete duplicated numbers within same name it was solved. You need the pro version. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.makelifesimple.duplicatedetector&hl=pt_PT
3- Found this one in a French forum. It seems like this is been an issue when using some roms with Renault and Mazda systems. You also need this pro version. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android_rsap.irmc&hl=pt_PT
Hope it helps someone... Was getting desperate!
I think a lot of people are noticing this issue. Contacts are not syncing with Google Contacts.
I want to ask about the solution or any existing workarounds available?

This issue affects several "selected" devices including Pixel 2, LG, Xiaomi, OPPO, etc. It happens since last December.
Please refer to the following links for SEVERAL options of workaround:

My unit has successfully sync all 100% contacts (ie 830 contacts) starting last week. What I did was creating a new "label" and assign all 830 contacts to this new "label". This method may or may not work for any of you. You need to try all the methods ppl suggested in the link I've provided earlier.
It has nothing to do with P2. It's on the Google's server problem which Google admitted.

On the google forum, it was mentioned that there is some issue due to Google plus links getting added to contacts. The solution was to delete the Google plus url from contacts. However, this did not work for me on Stock firmware. I was able to sync contacts for few days by doing factory reset but the issue surfaced again. On Lineage OS, I am not facing this issue. I checked adding contacts on some other phones as well (Xiaomi Redmi note 4, One Plus 3T, Asus zenfone 4) and syncing worked fine on all these phones. So, maybe this was an issue started by Google but other manufacturers resolved it. Lenovo did not.
The only workaround I found is to export the contacts from google contacts from the web in vcard format and then importing that file on my phone...... This issue is not there with oreo roms for p2
I had this problem a while back and it drove me nuts. One of the reasons I (finally) flashed a custom ROM. I dont have a solution. Have you tried the solution from second post?

Same problem here , sync stopped last week.
If uninstall play services updates and go back to factory version , contacts sync works again.
After updating play services , sync stops working.
Hopefully google can resolve this.

This is by far the best workaround I found. I don't need latest play services. **** google. I just uninstalled updates and it's working finally after months
APK patch from Lenovo
A patch fixing this issue has just been released by Lenovo, under the form of an APK app.
Please refer to Lenovo Community forum for details.
Works with the last stock ROM.
Needs to restart the phone after installing.
