I do not want to root though. I did search the forums and saw of this.

From what JayDeeDaz posted over on one of the AFTVNews comment sections. It should work fine. And it should be the same for both rooted & non-rooted devices. As long as there are on some version of FireOS 5.
I wrote a walk-thru on the two easiest ways to backup an APK over here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70354529&postcount=2
You can also check the APK's Hash values to make sure the backup APK was correctly backed up by using the Properties option on ES File Explorer. I will add this part to the walk thru in a bit.
Thanks to @AFTVnews.com for reminding me:
The "KFTV Launcher.apk" can be found in either the official v5.2.4.0 FW update or the v5.2.4.0 FW PreRooted Rom.
Update: Still need the APK please. The original & PreRooted ROM's come with the APK's in a .DAT file. Which I can't extract or access.

Use sdat2img to convert the .dat to .img
Then use EXT4 Unpacker and EXT2Reader to access the files.

Hi All,
I deleted the default browser a while ago and now want to use it again for testing. I cant find it in the market, so is there a download link to add it back to my device?
Also, I have removed most of the bloatware from the device but would like to know if there is an official ROM I can download in case I need to restore the device.
Can anyone point me to some links.
Thanks
Ian
Have you tried resetting the device to default? That could solve the problem.
Download a custom rom like Leedroids, extract it somewhere, navigate ti system/app and browser. Copy it and using root explorer mound r/w and paste it into system/app of your running rom.

This has a list of RUU that you can use for restoring to stock firmware
Hey guys:
I was having trouble updating my Profile and PRL on stock deodex rom. So I unrooted my phone and then flashed the stock 3.70 update. Then I was able to update my Profile and PRL. Then I rooted again with Unrevoked and Unrevoked Forever.
But I want to get back to having a deodex rom. I know I can flash a custom one, but is there a way to maybe deodex the stock version I have now? Maybe an apk or zipfile I can install that will do it?
Thanks
I believe it can be done through a program called ThemePro. It has a rom manager button on it which has all the standard rom tools (deodex, zipalign, build, sign, extract, etc).
I dont have the link to where i got it any more but if you search google you should be able to find it with out to many issues.

Would I need to dump my rom or is this like app that can be installed?
you would need to dump the rom to your pc or mac. once on your pc you can then have it extract deodex (zipalign if you want it too) and rebuild it/sign it for your use you can also use it to edit the apps it includes its pretty nice little tool.

I figured it was a long process. Nothing is ever easy. I thought there might have been a some secret zip / hack I could install
ah no sadly not that easy. though once it is on your pc it is really just a few clicks in the program to get it working and set up or at least it looks like it should be. I have never deodexed my own rom just know it is there and from the rest of the program shouldn't be to extraneous

yessir. That was it. Thanks:good:
I have a firetv1 and patiently waiting for rbox to release the latest rom.
His rom package for firetv2 has support for not having root (delete the su directory from the zip before install).
Does anyone have this setup on firetv2? If you do, do apps that check for root run properly?
I am especially interested in att uverse app and whether it works properly on all channels, (CNN, TNT, etc).
Thanks.
EDIT- now that we have prerooted fireOS 5 rom on firetv1, i have installed without the su directory and yes the uverse app works properly. thanks.

That's really interesting. I would think you could install xposed, then rootcloak? Seems complicated though

Hey there, I was looking for this update.bin but couldn't find it, I've tried downloading update and looking for the bin file in /cache and everywhere else on the box.
Would be grateful if anyone could post a link to the firmware, or even better, tell me where it's located and how to extract it
Cheers in advance
