clarifying phone modding

hey, im attempting to mod my xperia play r800i but need to clarify a few issue here as im very very very new to android.
1. currently on 0.42, if i root it and then update to 0.62, is the phone still rooted? if not, what is the way to root 0.62? is the same rooting method applicable on it?
2. to mod my phone, is the sequence correct? unlock boatloader via sony homepage>root phone> install DoomLord kernel> flash JokaWild rom
3. for the CVM, can it be accessed for all xperia play, or need to install someting to access into that mode?
thanks!
just unlock the bootloader and then install the DoomKernel via fastboot, Doomkernel is already rooted and CWM installed

If you update OTA and not through a computer, you keep root. However, OTA doesn't work after removing bloatware, so make sure you haven't removed anything yet.
The order would be unlock bootloader, flash stock .62 firmware, flash DooMKernel, load recovery, install jokawild.
The CWM you would use to flash jokawild is built into DooMKernel. When booting the phone, the notification light will turn blue. When it does, press the back button to enter recovery.
Also, you don't need to worry about keeping root, or rooting again since jokawild is already rooted automatically.

thanks for all the reply!
another question, how do i access my phone's internal memory via my laptop?
it seems that i can only access sd card data.
Afaik the only way is to use ADB, and I'm pretty sure that's only for push/pull commands and not file browsing.
I usually use root explorer from the phone itself.

hey, want to ask another question, if i do a 'factory reset', will it delete the crash bandicoot apk file in the internal memory? because i need the file for pspxperia to emulate ps1 games in it. thanks!

I believe the app comes factory preset.
You could always just copy the Crash Bandicoot files to your computer and not worry about it though.
in the sdk manager, what i should choose to install? the tools and android kit api 14?

no need to install that API, just install this only
- Android SDK tools
- Android SDK Platform-tools
- Google usb driver(extra)
A factory reset, as in one you do through the phone menus, doesn't modify which apps are installed. It only wipes user settings.
Flashing a stock firmware includes the games that you had when you got the phone.

install this file manager https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.metago.astro&hl=en
if u download an apk file outside the google play, go to your download folder to install it
which way to unlock boatloader is recommended? s2tool or from sony website?
is it true that if use s2tool method, update still can be done via OTA?

lost root

I installed SU superuser app from google play because inbuilt was having problems. And then I froze the inbuilt Permission manager, "LBE guard" was the name I think with Titanium backup.. Later when I updated my rom with newer version, I LOST ROOT
I tried uninstalling all superuser apps and tried installing busybox, nothing works it says device not rooted, Checked on root checker, same response, device not rooted.. Now what can I do to get back the root... I even re-updated the rom but still same problem, NO ROOT HELP PLEAS
Search "SuperSU" thread in xda, download the latest flashable zip file, flash from recovery.

Is there a way to manually root 4.3 using an unsecure boot image ?

As title.
I always rooted my gnex using an unsecure boot image.
Now I can boot with an unsecure boot image, I can push/chmod su, superuser and daemonsu using adb but than what should I do?
What should I do to root the phone?
Thanks.

You can either flash the SuperSU .zip by Chainfire in a custom recovery or you can take the .zip apart and do it manually. Push all of the files in the .zip to the corresponding locations on your phone and look at the updater-script to see if you need to do any other commands. Root in 4.3 is different and Chainfire's method basically uses a script to enable it at every boot. I have not read about any other superusers working for 4.3, though I could have missed it.

Galaxy Nexus 4.3 NO ROOT w/ SuperSU_1.51.zip
Ok XDA - you're my only hope. I've completely lost root after flashing the last two PA releases. I just flashed the most recent (dirty), flashed GApps, rebooted, Flashed SuperSU_1.51/zip, Wiped Dalvik/cache in TWRP, rebooted, SuperSU says no binary installed, please manually root. Losing my mind here, need to get rooted again, could someone lend me some backup?

Did you manage to solve this problem?
I've got the same problem now...(There is no SU Library installed... This is a problem!)
Previously I had root but SU Library wouldn't update, ChainFire told me to re-root which caused me to lose root completely, tried again to root, without any luck.

download the most current supersu.zip and flash it in recovery.
if you're using a toolkit (i bet you are) STOP IT.
Zepius said:

about 2 minutes prior to your reply, I updated the "Toolkit" along with all the other items (supersu, img, etc..)
And after that, my device is rooted again.
Although, the main reason I started all of this was to update my device's build further, but it seems the OTA update is now gone... I'll have to wait for it appear again and see how it goes...

I did, though I'm fuzzy on how exactly, and no, no toolkits here. IIRC I ended up wiping, updating recovery, and then manually flashing, but I had to do it multiple times to get root to stick. Sorry I don't have any better info to provide, glad to hear a) I wasn't the only one who experienced this problem, and b) you got your root back.

Debloat s3 i747m

Wheee can i get the flashable zip fot debloating my S3 i believe someone called mr ashman or something created it like 2years ago almost might have the name wrong
To get rid of the bloatware, it's best to be rooted as some apps can't be removed without root.

Are you stock or rooted?
If I am not mistaken, to use the zip file you need to be rooted, but in any case I genarally use either titanium backup to remove unwanted Apps or es file explorer( just be sure to check the root option in the tools menu.
If you are not rooted then I have a zip on my laptop for you
Another way to DeBloat would be to use this app. It requires connection to a Windows computer. KitKat roms do not require root, I think Lollipop roms do.
I haven't used it, I don't have a Windows computer.

ES file explorer root access problem

Hello
I have a rooted Samsung Note 10.1 2014, with lollipop 5.1.1 installed. I have tried the give ES file explorer root access, (in the tools drop down menu), but it gives me error : "Sorry, test failed. This feature cannot run on your device".
Secondly, when i go to the toolbox in ES file explorer it gives me error " Failed to update data" and nothing shows up.
I've a rooted Samsung Note 3, with 4.4.2, and ES file explorer works fine in that.
Can someone help or guide me here?
thanks

Same problem with Samsung S4 mini i9195 with Android 6.0.1 AICP rom. It works fine with Note 10.1 2014 P600 and stock rom 5.1.1.
Have you verified your properly rooted with a root checker? I was having similar issues with both ES and Titanium Backup a few months ago and it turned out I had lost root access somehow. I re-rooted it and everything worked perfectly again.... no problems since then.
If you have 5.1.1 you need a modified kernel for root access... Don't have the modified kernel then you can flash root until it kills your tablet but you might as well smash your head against the wall to get rid of a headache.

How or where can this modified kernel be found?
My 5.1.1 LL is rooted, but somehow i cant write changes to system folder....i tried using 3rd-app to enable all apps to run in multiwindow on stock 5.1.1 but it keeps saying my sytem its read only, this happens even if i enable rw permisions from drop down menu of file managers like solid explorer!
Has anyone managed to write and save changes to system folder?

Yes, I have root access that can write to system files and modify them..
Here is a link tomodified P605 Kernel - http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...rnel-stock-selinux-permissive-kernel-t3232814
And, if by some miracle you havent had Knox go to 0x1, this will do that. Be aware...
Does Any one know how to add all installed apps to the multiwindow function?
ie. Patch the framework to allow this!

Hi Guys, this is a known problem as it is doing it to my Xperia Z5 DUAL(using MM) as well.
I found this: https://disqus.com/home/discussion/mjdseo/how_to_enable_root_browsing_in_es_file_explorer/newest/
But the guy who found the solution by repatching the actual app is of no help to me. I want ES File Explorer to fix this!! As i dont like any other file explorer.

I had the same problem with es file explorer. Flashing super su 2.68 with with twrp solved the problem on my p600.
Newer super su versions are maybe not compatible with file explorer.
