ES file explorer root access problem - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hello
I have a rooted Samsung Note 10.1 2014, with lollipop 5.1.1 installed. I have tried the give ES file explorer root access, (in the tools drop down menu), but it gives me error : "Sorry, test failed. This feature cannot run on your device".
Secondly, when i go to the toolbox in ES file explorer it gives me error " Failed to update data" and nothing shows up.
I've a rooted Samsung Note 3, with 4.4.2, and ES file explorer works fine in that.
Can someone help or guide me here?
thanks

Same problem with Samsung S4 mini i9195 with Android 6.0.1 AICP rom. It works fine with Note 10.1 2014 P600 and stock rom 5.1.1.

Have you verified your properly rooted with a root checker? I was having similar issues with both ES and Titanium Backup a few months ago and it turned out I had lost root access somehow. I re-rooted it and everything worked perfectly again.... no problems since then.

If you have 5.1.1 you need a modified kernel for root access... Don't have the modified kernel then you can flash root until it kills your tablet but you might as well smash your head against the wall to get rid of a headache.

How or where can this modified kernel be found?
My 5.1.1 LL is rooted, but somehow i cant write changes to system folder....i tried using 3rd-app to enable all apps to run in multiwindow on stock 5.1.1 but it keeps saying my sytem its read only, this happens even if i enable rw permisions from drop down menu of file managers like solid explorer!
Has anyone managed to write and save changes to system folder?

Yes, I have root access that can write to system files and modify them..
Here is a link tomodified P605 Kernel - http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...rnel-stock-selinux-permissive-kernel-t3232814
And, if by some miracle you havent had Knox go to 0x1, this will do that. Be aware...

Does Any one know how to add all installed apps to the multiwindow function?
ie. Patch the framework to allow this!

I'm not sure if this app works on lollipop as I'm not running a stock rooted lollipop ROM, but it worth a try. I do know it does work with a stock rooted kit kat rom though. Hope that helps

I tried that one and it aint working....im using mw spen enabler, this works but ive got to enable each app individually and if the app its updated then ive got to repeat the process!
Thats why im looking for ideas on patching framework to have this funtion without modifying apps separately, thanks for replying

Hi Guys, this is a known problem as it is doing it to my Xperia Z5 DUAL(using MM) as well.
I found this: https://disqus.com/home/discussion/mjdseo/how_to_enable_root_browsing_in_es_file_explorer/newest/
But the guy who found the solution by repatching the actual app is of no help to me. I want ES File Explorer to fix this!! As i dont like any other file explorer.

I had the same problem with es file explorer. Flashing super su 2.68 with with twrp solved the problem on my p600.
Newer super su versions are maybe not compatible with file explorer.

Android Commander allways reporting no root access

Please can someone explain why android commander is allways reporting me my HOX has no root access?
This happens to me on every rom I've tried yet.
Or is this related to S-On?
Try rooting a few times, make sure busy box is installed and use different methods to root if available.

Connect your phone to your pc and execute these
Code:
adb shell su
then you should get this # if you have root
!!!Solution
"The Root access : No because" you'r using the stock rom which have a "secured adb" (even when you'r rooted)
Download the "adbd insecure" in this thread and "Enable insecure adbd", problem solve:

You re-rooted after Busybox, so you rooted a second time ?
and now you have Root access : availlable in Android Comander ?
You have the galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 SM-T900 ?

No, not the Galaxy but was having the same problem with Android Commander not recognizing root. Saw the post above about re-rooting and also applying the adb insecure app. Did both and I mean just doing the same root process without un-rooting first. I use Super One Click for my phone. Anyway, still didn't work.
So I downloaded BusyBox Free from the playstore and installed it. Ran Super One Click again, also doing the Shell root, and it worked! Don't know if coincidence or just got lucky but posted hoping it might help others.

I already have Busybox installed and ticked option in adb insecure app so I will try to re-root my SM-T900 but I don't believe it'll work
It worked on Huawei Honor 6 L02 with root, busybox + adbinsecure. Thank you all for the tips.
Same issue in my side
I am using Xolo Q900 and installed MIUI custom rom for the device.
But When I connect android commander its showing no root access.
I have tried the Insecure ADB but it failed to patch. showed an error message "Patching not done"
Also showing USB debugging not enable but I have enabled it and its showing active in my phone.
When I am opening titanium backup in my phone Its showing I have root access. I have also installed new version of Busy Box but still no heal.
Can anybody help me on this?
It worked
After installing the ADB Insecure [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26885208] I can now see the Root status OK in Android Commander.
I was making mistake in the Permission Manager in MIUI rom. After allowing the ADB Insecure app from there I was able to patch.
Although You need to restart it again after exiting from the app or phone restart.
My device xolo q900
My moto G xt1031 is on lollipop 5.0.2 running stock. What i did was go to the binary file in AC. delete everything in it and then replace the adb file frome the most current version. Then i installed adb insecure on my phone. works great now.

PS : I found it on : http://androidforums.com/gio-all-things-root/408235-rooting-samsung-gio-ginderbread-2-3-4-a.html
I used this for rooting my stock 2.3.6 (see attachment)
Roots, installs superuser and busybox.
Worked for me, but not sure if it works for S5660L
If you want to know where I got it from, pm me, can't post links yet, quite annoying...
You should go in the recovery mode to run the update.zip and not though the file explorer.
To come in recovery mode, turn off the phone -->press the main button (in middle) + right button (to turn on/off the phone) keep both buttons until the recovery mode shows. Scroll down by using the left side button on phone (volume control) and choose install zip from sdcard by pressing the main button. Then reboot the phone and its rooted.

You can use Root Explorer,Astra or other similar app for unrooting, it should be mounted as R/W
go to: system/app, delete SuperUser.apk
reboot

Hello everybody
I have tried all the ways to have my root access in my samsung GIO 2, but nothing works..
Model Number :GT-S5660
Android System : 2.3.6
I think it's the same model as the others here.. But When I try to root with a file update.zip, it doesn't work, with the file RootGalaxyGio.zip (this one of this topic) it's the same case...
I install RootChecker and it says me that I haven't the root access.. And If I try to install "SuperSU" to move the apps, it says me that "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
I I really don't know What I could do to have my root access.....
Thank's a lot for your answers

Which TWRP did you use?
I flashed 2.7.0.1 but when i try to boot to recovery I get the white screen with the red warning at the bottom, and "booting into recovery" in pink at the top, but then it fails and reboots to normal system.
not working
i think chain fire didn't release root for 5.0.1....
if i knew that, i wouldn't update to this android
Works fine on Nexus/GPe devices so must be an Sense thing
Rooted my M8 with S-ON and bootloader unlocked.
I installed first openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.3
Then entered recovery mode to install SuperSU (latest version)
worked fine.
Did have a WiFi issue, no sure why, but after factory reset problem was solved.
Didi have also the facebook messenger lag problem when in app sound was active.
I just went back to 4.4.3 in the end and installed the viperone Rom and have to say i am impressed

You may want to download a root checker app to verify. If it wasn't root properly, I would re-download the SuperSU zip and install it once more.

My guess is the given app is not compatible with Lollipop.
Try a couple other apps that require root access; e.g., root file explorer.

[ROOT][LP][UB/LB] 1 Click Root for Xperia ZL Lollipop Locked/Unlocked Bootloader

Hi, i have an Xperia ZL with Locked Bootloader and i tested it and it worked, no need to flash anything, just go in your mobile browser to https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B28tGmPEAKnOeGhkemVTZlAtMk0/view?usp=sharing, download and install the apk and run it, it will do allt he work for you, i have experienced some reboots but some minutes after my phone goes completly stable, it will install a task killer called kingmaster and the root manager called kinguser, you can uninstall kingroot and kingmaster and just need to keep kiguser, super user and super su doesn´t work but with kinguser installed i have completly root acces
UPDATE: In my first post i posted the direct link to download kingroot from its website, but it was downloading different versions and not all of them are working fine, so i uploaded the correcto version to my google drive, it works perfectly, the version 4.0 is in chinese and doesnt work, but version 4.1 is in english and works fine
Can anybody else comment on this ? I've read shady details about kingroot from other threads but some of it may not be up to date.
I think this method doesn't really works, Titanium backup don't get root access by example...
You can indeed get root using this method, but will need to change it to SuperSU before attempting to use Titanium Backup.
I don't recommend it
can I unroot the phone afterward for warranty service?
Why you dont recomed it Oliver?
Dandy, i have been using titanium backup perfectly with this root method, just open king user, revoque the root acces to titanium and open titanium again, it will prompt you for root acces and then it works perfectly
Dlslith, there is no need to change to supersu or super user, i think this cannot be done
Atisho, i dont know a method to unroot Xperia zl on android lollipop, but im interested too, i will be searching and trying

Yes, the Kingroot method does work (you need to have internet access). I have used it to root my Z1, but it is generally considered a "Risky" way to root.
If you need it done fast, it will work. Most people recommend taking the longer process of downgrading to an earlier version, using a root tool that installs SuperSU or Superuser, then installing a recover, and finally installing a pre-rooted version of the ROM you want / need.
The reason that king is considered risky is that part of the root process requires you to have web access and the app sends the phone IMEI number to some unknown IP address in china.
Is that all that Kingroot sends? unknown
What can / do they do with the IMEI? unknown
What else does king user do if the root is sending your IMEI number to china? unknow
Use at own risk. I really was having trouble with my Z1 after I tried to install a rom but it was corrupted and I lost the recovery and root.
I used Kingroot to get root access, then used the root to install a recover, then did a clean install of the full ROM I wanted.
groot to get root access, then used the root to install a recover, then did a clean install of the full ROM I wanted.
Does anyone know which exploit kingroot is using to get root access?
Hi,
I tried to root on Lollipop using Kingroot, It installed root, then I tried to switch the Root Manager App to SuperSU, In doing this I uninstaled KingRoot, KingUser and all other apps and tried to update binaries with SuperSU which obviously failed.
Now the problem is such that - KingUser is installed as a system app and also the su binaries are loaded. When i type su command from the Terminal i get the following error:
[-] connect ui: timer expired.
Unable to root with any known technique
I have also tried to do a system reset but kinguser still persisted.
Is there any way to wipe /system clear and flash a ftf to start from a clean slate and try rooting again.
