Yo guys,
I have my LG G4 since a while but this problem is really annoying me.
Had two LG G4 and they all did the same.
I litterally can't play any games because of that. While i'm playing 90% of the games that are available on the playstore, my CPU is overheating and i feel my LG G4 becoming so hot in my hands.
Then after a few minutes everything is freezing for 2-3 seconds and then the phone is rebooting.
Can you guys play Asphalt 8 or Arrow.io without rebooting after a few minutes? it's really annoying.
I would like to know how can i fix that? Do i need to root my phone and Underclock the CPU?
I really really don't get it.. Really rare it happens on any other situations, or rarely when i'm on Facebook and charging at the same time.
Thanks

Same issue while playing clash of royale for 5 minutes , phone heats up an then freezes. I've to take battery out and restart after 10 minutes to get it boot
Check your serial of your device. If it starts with a digit of 5 I would say it will be the well known main board issue

That's all; once I play like 10 mins with the new "Assassins Creed HD" game my HTC Trophy gets really hot... The temperature becomes so high so I have to stop play because looks like if the device were to die in heat.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem?
on a hd7 I have no problems , not getting hot at all even with wifi on .
Thank you for your fast response ceesheim.
So it must be just my phone or maybe the Trophy model...
Maybe I did the bad choice and I had to get the HD7 model instead. (never had problems with temperature on my HD2 massplaying anything).
But now the problem is serious, that game increases really a lot the temp on my device. I must say that I have wifi and bluetooth on the whole day (massive use of them) and maybe it can be related to the problem.
I will check without them on, anyway is scary how heat it becomes once I play it, and is strange because it doesn’t happens with other games like "The harvest"

I only had wifi on , bluetooth and gps was off , you could try that .
the phone shouldn't get hot, ever. maybe be a defective battery. ask for a replacement. free, of course.

eeeh don't know about that one. Phones get hot with extended usage of cpu or antenna. ****, your game consoles or pc's get hot when playing games...and they have fans...why wouldn't your fanless phone not?
You've never been on a long call and noticed that unit was hot by the time you got off?
I agree with ohgood, a phone shouldn't get hot, even after long play, unless overclocked or modified in any way. And 10 mins not an excuse at all. I never experienced anything like that and my wife plays 3D games on the iphone for hours, it just gets a bit warm. My Fuze is not even warm but all I play is Solitaire City / Chess. However, my definition of hot may be different from OP.
It is possible for a phone to get hot whilst its being used.
It might be a battery issue though as its mainly the battery that will get hot before any anything else.
Might want to check the battery.
Or get a replacement. Free. There should be no reason as for it to get hot... Although, my phone gets hot when using Wi-Fi Tether, but that's about it.

ive had this issue since maybe a month after i bought mine. If my screen is on at more than half brightness for any reason at al it gets blazing hot. if i run netflix for too long, blazing hot. regualar games like words with friends, clash of clans, and facebook/instagram make my phone hot.
i used to be on stock 4.4 but i recently flashed euphoria and it calmed down a bit. still gets hot with high brightness but no longer in games and apps. still looking for a better solution.

Mine gets hot from time to time but not so hot I get concerned.
The only time it became problematic was when I was trying to record a long speech [UHD] and had to force-end my video recording because it hit its thermal limit.
So ive had my Tmobile G4 for about 3 weeks now. Ive been using the G series since it started. I love the G4 but wow ive never had a phone with this type of heating issue.
There is not a time when the phone js not at least warm to touch. Few times a day it gets to the point where its too hot to touch at all. Forget about making a phone call way to hot to lut against face.
Im not doing muxh of anything either. Web browse etc... But its hot at idle screen off just sitting there.
Anyone have issues with heating? Multiple times its given me the over heating message and shuts off phone.
Last night for example it got to 80c.... Thats fricken hot!
Could factory reset help it? I dont know what to do at this point? Am i just having to get a replacement? As i type this from my g4 sensors showing high 60 to low 70C.
The heat is generating from the top half of the phone btw. Like at the camera it feels like.
Any suggestions or help? Thanks

Is the battery draining abnormally fast? Check the usage for play service, could need that fix
If you live in a hot area like me, such as LA, then you probably experienced phone shutting down while using phone as a GPS due to the overheat.
I've never Had that problems with all of my previous phones but I'd give few software updates for optimization.

Yeah battery is draibing very fasy. I use a battery monitor and nothing is sucking it up.
Also, i live in Arizona where it has been 110 degrees daily. Though it hasnt shut down from heat outside or when using gps yet.
It shut down with over heat warning last night in my apartment where its 67 degrees in here while i was on google.com just browsing. So im clueless right now.
I just cleared cache partition and booted to safe mode to see if it runs any better.
I can leave my phone on my table for an hour and pick it up and itll still be scorching hot doing nothing. Its literally never not hot to touch.
Yeah. That's the mytmobile app... Unchecked all the boxes in the settings. Helped me

My 1st Tmobile G4 Online Preorder had some problems mostly screen. I sent it back. I went to the store and bought one. That one was always hot as well. It was always throwing warnings at me. I had Gmaps on in my car with the AC on and only 70F out the time and it shut down on me. I called Tmobile and did some master reset etc and still was the same. I finally just went back to the store and told them to exchange it after they seen how hot it got in store. Tired to tell me I was at 15days when I went back in but I called in a few days before and asked what day was the 14th Monday or Tuesday I guess they count Purchase day as day 1 and that's what I thought but the person I talked to said no but they called Manager and they honored it. This phone finally seems to be good a few little issue's but they should get worked out soon with software we all hope. The 1st 2 phone's I had the Update Pushed to my phone the 3rd one was already on the phone so might be newer batch ? I was not happy spending over $600 on the phone with the issue's I had on those til this 3rd one which is good so far.

Then I'd say that even when it's doing nothing, it's still actually doing something, maybe just something it shouldn't be doing.
My Verizon G4 ran warm, and I was disappointed with the battery life. Different monitoring tools were unable to point me to what app (?) was causing the problem. Sometimes it would stay cooler after a reboot. Mine was never just constantly hot, however. Mine would be cool sometimes when sitting around, and then sometimes warm. Like taking it off the charger in the mornings, some days it would be cool, others it would be warm (~95F or so), when it had been just sitting there with the screen off.
Just now for example. After i replied here i out my phone on my table. I just now picked it up and it was 74 C. Scorching. Like its just gonna melt ibro a pile of G4 goo lol.
I guess ill call my store on Monday. Safe mode and clearing cache partition didnt help at all.

Are you using a case with it? I recently had overheating issues and figured out that the leather wallet case I was using was causing my G4 leather to overheat. It went as high as 112°5F But as soon as removed it it went back to normal.

Nah I have the black version normal backing not the leather version. I have the thin Tech21 case but i took it off a week ago to see if this helps.
As im typing this my phone is at 75C which is 167 degrees F! So hot!
Possible a Facorty reset could help? I really dont have many apps installed right now either. Since its relatively new ive been slowly installing apps. I started blank, didnt install anything from backups etc. The apps i do have installed are pretty basic. Nothing syncing or running. Ive been clear the recents aswell just to try. Frustrating
Have you tried turning off WiFi? I've noticed occasionally that my phone will constantly drop WiFi on my home router and reconnect a few seconds later, repeating this until I restart the router. All of that constant disconnecting and reconnecting makes it pretty hot...

Yeah its happening regardless. I turn data off when im on wifi and my wifi never loses connection, it stays constant. Though i did try a few days ago using no data or wifi and same dral, just hot.
Have you tried a factory reset? I leave my wifi on and stream music and everything. The only time it gets warm is when I Fast Charge. But I mostly wirelessly charge so its still cool.
Maybe you should exchange it.
I'm second on that doing factory reset. Seems like you have a corrupted profile or rogue app, or both.

I were having over heating problems on my G4. It were so hot at one point that my 6 year old daughter picked it up to play a game on it. The phone was that hot my daughter actually started crying cause the phone burnt her hand. This is not good. I have an awful lot of applications on my handset, over 300 so before I contacted LG I did a LG backup and reset. I restored probably half the apps what I had and a week after I haven't had a problem and the phone seems to be running as it should. The phone isn't even warm.
My theory is the G4 has 64bit processors. The snapdragon 810 processors were known for over heating and the G4 uses the snapdragon 808 processors for this reason. The 64bit processors deal with twice the data at the same time to the old 32bit processors and this contributes to them getting too hot. I feel that a few tweaks by developers and updates from LG is what's needed to combat the over heating. Time is our friend here and a bit of common sense. When you install a new app and overheating occurs then just remove the problem app. I always see how the app affects the handset now for over heating problems.
The 64bit processors in the G4 are new and need to have some updates to combat the overheating I feel. I recommend a system restore, debloating and only using the apps what you need.
I remember when pc's went from 32bit to 64bit processors. There were processors burning out, melting, water cooling became popular and bigger fans to combat the over heating. In time it sorted itself out so I feel this is the case for the G4 and other new handsets running 64bit processors.
Hope this helps.
Did anyone try unchecking the boxes in the my T-Mobile app? My phone went from 50% to %5 in less than 30 mins running crazy hot. You could also try uninstalling the app updates, or using the debloater tool on xda to disable it.
Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk
Same here, although not so hot that it "burns". iPhone 6 got warm but never so hot - software improvements should help combat this over time. +1 on the debloat tool.
One may argue the dead air via removable back cover can act as an insulator vs a compact design. Maybe just get an Otterbox/Thick case so you can't notice the heat as much? Could possibly lower battery lifespan though.
I've had my AT&T G4 for a little over a week. The first couple days the battery life was horrendous so I did a factory reset. The battery life improved greatly however that's when I noticed the top half of my screen getting unbearably hot. Another factory reset didn't solve the issue. So I talked with an AT&T Rep and am taking mine in for a replacement now. Hopefully will resolve this issue. Will update.
Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the LG G5 stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
i think the G5 heats a little bit too much
today i was simply downloading Hearthstone (800MB approx) and in standby it heated too much
i think its quite excellent actually.
i could not notice any throttling during gaming etc. well maybe thats just because even the gpu is idling at <15% during asphalt 8 play
I had zero issues with thus device heating up until last night... I was at the movies with the fam.. In the theater I only had 1x for data and the phone got hot while searching for a better data connection. Cooled right down after leaving the theater.
Coming from an htc m7, so a huge step anyway... Phone is top!
This was one of the first things I noticed because I used the gps probably 45 mins after taking it out of the box. I watch YouTube vids for around an hour a day and after a while it does become noticeable but I have to be honest; it really doesn't bother me all that much.
Can feel warm and a little uncomfortable in warmer weathers (20-30 Celsius).
Mine heats up a lot. I'm a little concerned honestly.

I don't experience anything unusual.
heres the deal boys...
Yes this phone gets hot when its used hard.....if your not incurring reboots while running it hard , then you'll probably be good
After a month buying this , I started getting reboots ....hot and cold
The first time I sent it in , they said to leave sim and battery at home...
I got it back and started the usual 30 or more updates from App Store and phone got real hot and started rebooting again every minute
even when it was cool...it rebooted but at a longer interval...
They told me to send battery in too on second go around...
Just got it back , it had a system update to do and then the 30+ app updates....this phone was getting a workout...
I did the App updates right after the system update with the optimization ....
I'm 20 apps into it...the battery cooled down and the apps are still going...
looks like they have a battery issue with these phones. If I don't report back , then all is good...

No, it doesn't mean that LG has an issue with the batteries. It only means that YOU had issue with YOUR battery.
I'm glad your phone is OK and it was just the battery.
Only got mine yesterday, but I've used it a lot in that short time and it get nowhere near as hot my previous 2 phone a Nexus 4 and G3 it gets warm but not what I would call hot compared to them 2 anyway, at its worst mostly watching videos it can get a quite warm, but gaming it barely gets warm, I'm loving it so far but time will tell I guess but so far so good.
Mine heats up too, specially while using Snapchat or YouTube. Haven't played Asphalt or other graphic-intensive games, so I can't comment whether my device has the same issue with them or not.
Mine stays quite cool during heavy usage, it does get realy hot while charging though. I expect this is the same with others?

Hi, check some prior threads for maybe some insight:
Why is my phone running hot?
Anyone know how I might go about diagnosing why my phone has been running much warmer than usual? Just browsing Facebook (posts, not video) for about 5 minutes with brightness around 25% the temp was up to 41 degrees. It happened earlier today...
