Nougat Kernel comparison - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Dear friends, i'm creating this thread in order to know your experience with different kernels wich came out recently for Android Nougat.
I'm currently using r37 from @eng.stk and i like a lot but i never tried other too.
So... share your experiences, battery graphics, benchmarks, etc...

Stop this nonsense please. Comparing different different kernels is just unethical.. Mods please close such type of threads.. Such threads are getting increased day by day..

You should find the best one for yourself by trying them

my opinion
the best rom for my needs is my own cooked version of PDAVIET 3.00.07.09
i just added to it some tweaks and apps to MY liking... but to me its the best ROM ive tried so far from the bunch... the AX3L ROM which i used before, was also great, the only problem i have with this great work is that its not based on the dopod release and gives me trouble with my local customization...
i hope it helped

Thanks for the thread
I'm a newbie and i want to install a wm6 based ROM on my Trinity, but I don't know which one...
P.S. May be (IMO) you have to specify in a better way the title of the thread to result more comprehensive

Yes, I got what you said.
The thing is that what is the best ROM for you, doesn't have to be the best ROM for the next person. It very much depends on the type of user that you are and the what features the user is looking for.
So you could create a table or a matrix which shows the features per ROM. This would definitely be a great startingpoint.
Always the same question ... And the better answer is try yourself for having your own opinion : the best rom is different depending on your needs...So try and post your feedback...But that sort of question is useless !!!

I don't think that the question is useless, cause the features, the bugs, the speedness of a ROM are not an OPINION....
I think that made a table with pro, cons , bugs and features of each ROM is USEFULL for a great part of the community, in particular for the newbies like me. Thanks and sorry for my English

If you take the time to read the tread of the differents Roms (i know it's difficult to read for someone...) ... You will know which bugs are in which Rom ... So...I persist..i'm sorry but i'm still thinking it's useless
You'll see if you read each ROM thread that some people say it's quicker than others, it all depends on what you're using it for, what apps you want to install.
In the end, asking everyone which the best ROM is, is pointless, because as shym says, the only way to fins out is to TRY them all.
It takes 10 minutes to flash a new ROM, half an hour to install all the apps, use it for a day, flash another one the next day, try for yourself, it really is the best way.
what is a pro to 1 person is a con to another
I agree with shym - interesting that most senior members have the same opinion. You will find the pros and cons of each ROM by reading their threads. (If you can't be bothered to do that - this forum probably isn;t for you).
and if not - try out different ROMs for ourself - you'll learn a lot - it's worth it.
... I'm not the thread mader but for me an overview table of all the cooked ROMs is usefull.
Ok without pro and cons (cause are personal opinions) but alt least the features and the bugs cold be added.
If all the community don't think so, My best apologise to all
don't you think that anyone that will make that table will put inside his own personal opinion? you will have a table with only one person as jury. pretty useless huh?
I like mun_rus TE and i don't like Axel's rom. why? just because. is my opinion.
and maybe I'm wrong because many people love Axel's rom. how could that be helpful? just try yourself some available roms and you will get the best opinion.
the best opinion for YOU I mean

If you add your own opinion to the fact, yes, it becomes blurry and useless. But if you state facts (installed software, cutomizations etc)... I would love to see such an overview.

Best Rom for CDMA

I'm finally going to root my phone, i was wondering what the best and most stable rom in your own opinion. I'm looking at GummyBear and it seems to be talking to me the most. Any input would be great. Thanks guys
I find that AOKP + Franco gives me the best battery life / smoothness but I would recommend testing the waters to determine what you like most.
honestly every phone is differently. Im currently running cm9 kang with the trinity kernel.
I found that this runs the best on my phone.
When i tried aokp-franco, i literally couldn't use my phone. I have no idea why but it was just super laggy on my phone.
So i recommend you to try out all different roms and kernels to find the best match for your phone
CM9 nightly + Franco kernel is beast on my phone. The thing with CM9 that you may like is the constant updates, improvements, and new features. It is never ending what they come up with, I have been with them through many devices and they never fail to impress.

Just don't make them, they are deleted as soon as they are seen in certain forums on XDA, I'm surprised they are allowed in this section.
It's so subjective it's almost pointless to ask. Like I said to someone a couple of days ago, 99% of the time the threads with 100,000 more posts than others are usually the most popular.
When I got my Nexus a few weeks ago I did what I always do when flashing a ROM/kernel to a new device, I did a bit or research, and selected what I thought to be the 'best'.

An insult, way to go.
223 people have viewed this thread, five have posted, three have suggested ROMs, the three people have all suggested different ROMs... getting my point? It's subjective.
I'm not going to argue with you all day, or even return the insult. Enjoy Gummynex, I'm sure it's a fine ROM.
You are right in saying it is subjective. HOWEVER, for a new user like me, it is nice reading why people think a ROM is good so I may choose one that may fit my needs.

So why not search 'best ROM' threads? Instead of adding to the plethora of threads already made?

Which ROM performs the best on the ZF2?

The selection of ROMs available is a bit overwhelming. Which one should I be using?
Stock? (Rooted ofcourse)
SuperZen?
Prism?
CM12.1?
Slim?
Omni?
Carbon?
Euphoria?
Paranoid?
And don't say flash them and see for yourself. I don't HAVE TIME to flash all of them, nor am I remotely interested in tinkering with the settings on each and every ROM. I just want to get the best value out of my phone. Aesthetics aside, do they have any notable key differences between them such as stability, performance, battery life, memory usage, or are they all relatively equivalent in that department?
I feel this thread will get flammed.

Why? Are less experienced members not allowed to inquire the more experienced members here?
Using PA, and I never had a 2.3 GB free on my RAM since I bought this phone!

I tried CM12.1, but there were annoying bugs for me, the phone got warm and battery life was bad.
I went to SuperZen and everything is pretty much like Stock, not much difference other than not having to disable and hide as many apps.
I really wish this phone had better battery life.

Yes they are, but best Rom, best kernel threads are frowned upon. All the developers here give their work for free and all strive to provide the best possible software. So in this case comparison equals criticism. You really need to decide what you want and make your decision based on your own reading of the respective threads.

Also, the best rom for one person may not be the best for someone else. Everyone uses their device differently, so there's really no other way to know what will work the best other than trying out a few.
Also, you may want to have a look at the sticky threads. (sorry mods, I'll get out of the back seat now)....

i see windows user here. Tell me, why do you buy a 4gb of ram phone if your system uses only 2gb? Android has good ram managment and i love to see 200 mb free ram, then i know it's worth. It's like buying a ferrari car for 20 kmph on country roads.
You didn't understand it, haha, Imagine this, when I'm in the stock ROM, my free RAM is always less than 1GB, then here you are saying it only consume half.

You should try SlimLP, there aren't any bugs so far, and you get this for your SOT(if you use it efficiently)
Sent from my ASUS_Z008 using XDA Free mobile app
At this state, most ROMS are almost identical. Only a couple have the actual ROM's features. Our PA doesn't have hover/peek (yet). I think only Slim Rom and Team EOS have their features activated. But most (CM based) ROMS have the same bugs.

I don't see the harm in criticism, so long as it's constructive. If I was developing a product, and my work wasn't up to par with what the people wanted, I feel it would be a disservice to myself and to others to blatantly shun / ignore criticism that could possibly help me develop a superior product.
Are people here really that thin skinned?

That may be the case, however, if you read my OP, I clearly state that I am looking for user feedback on KEY differences between the ROMs which affect EVERY single ZenFone2 user (if any exist at all?). Ntrasme just stated that they are all basically identical at this point. Can anyone else testify/confirm that?
Personally, I've tried a few of the CM12.1 derived ROMs myself and did not notice any major differences between them other than a few slight aesthetic changes, which makes me wonder if there is any legitimate reason as to why I should use one over the other

Literally every ROM will be useful to different people.
Install a ROM. Decide if you like it. OR YOU CAN ACTUALLY READ THROUGH EACH ROMS THREAD. Please do not clutter the forum with this type of post. It is completely unnecessary. The ROM that works well for me may not work for you. Features I may love, you may have no use for. Literally just spend a few hours or days reading reading reading and more reading up on all these ROMs, and install ones you think will work. You will not receive an answer you are looking for here.

To be honest you have to deside for yourself. No time to flash is not a reason at all. We are all busy and yet spend some time to flash and find our own perfect roms. Developers spend 10x more of that time to bring us FREE rom to flash. Ill give you an example. Says rom #1 is my best rom. i love it give me the best battery life i wanted but it lags here and there which for me its fine. But for a power user. Someone who play games or someone with lots of apps may find it annoying to have lag here and there. And might not care so much about battery therfor labeling the rom not his/her favorite. My setup is unrooted. Looked bootloader. I hate my sot but i have quick chargers at my work. Homr and car. So im good lol

Nah, I've looked through each and every one of those threads and clearly it didn't contain the information or answers I was looking for. For one, I've yet to see honest, unbiased and fair comparisons on the key differences between the ROMs. Just because you personally don't find a certain topic of discussion useful doesn't make it clutter. With that said, if you feel my thread clutters the forum, maybe you should stop contributing to the "clutter".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Snf0UOVik0M
What specific questions about CM do you have? Post that in the CM Q/A thread
What specific questions about SlimLP do you have? Post that in the SlimLP Q/A thread
honest, unbiased comparison? So if JoeSchmoe XDA user just says "Oh, I'm unbiased", does that mean you'd believe them? Don't look for a comparision guide; Instead, look at threads and/or websites of EACH rom you are considering, and they will tell you every nook and cranny of that rom. Then, you can make an informed decision about which rom to try FIRST. Don't like it? Pick another.
You are not the first, nor the last, to post this exact thread here for the Zenfone 2, even though the phone is barely a few months old.
If you cannot take the time to gain knowledge on the process and the differences of the roms yourself, you should not be attempting to flash a custom firmware.
We are all here for the love of development and technology.
I suggest that if you want a perfect rom, that is the best of all worlds, that you take up programming and show us all how superior you are. :good:

Not true. Alot of the ROMs are still in testing, and even the devs dont even know every nook and cranny on wtf is going on. Reason I started this thread is to figure out core differences. Usually there is a de facto consensus on what is the best ROM to use on a device, but with ZF2 apparently that's not the case as each ROM is basically equivalent / derived from one another.

so what if i told you there were people here who just want the best option for their phone, and could actually benefit from a comparison guide between the list of ROMs, because *GOD FORBID* they could careless about investing their time into the development and tech side of things because:
a) they have actual jobs.
b) a life.
c) would rather spend that time trying to get laid instead of nerding it out.

Dude you need to chill down. We all make mistakes. OP is asking a simple questions and yet you are not helping in anyway.
@op - I don't think so but you can try Resurrection ROM or any other pure Android ROM and flash Google pixel mode which would give you a close look to pixel.
To answer the question, a true Nexus/Pixel ROM port is possible but extremely hard and time consuming and not always worth it.
Not trying to insult any devs but custom Roms not based on OOS are not worth it. There's always stability issues with certain apps and performance is very good but inconsistent (random lags here and there that are really annoying). Camera quality is not even close to OOS (unless you're on sultan's ROM but that's cm13).
You're best bet for this phone is Experience ROM or FreedomOS (based on OOS 4.0.2) and F2FS format for /data + Blu spark kernel. Best performance/battery life combo there is in all situations

Hey thanks for the replies guys.
The Pixel Ui isn't the reason I want the port. My main issue with the current Roms out there is that 90% of them are based ok lineage OS which atm has way to many bugs / issues imo. I know some issues you can fix by flashing this zip and that zip and maybe another zip here. Not the biggest fan of that.
As for the OOS based ROMs: I am currently on one of them. Sadly i am also one of the people that has huge issues with WiFi / network stability.
I opened this thread cause I saw that the Samsung Galaxy s7 has a working Pixel rom Port and so does the nexus 5x. There are more phones that have working ports too and all of them are not as similar to the pixel phones as the OP3. That's why I was wondering why no one has ported it yet and if someone would be willing to try.
Thanks guys!

Question Recommendations for Kernels and or custom Roms.

Hey guys,
I've been unable to root my previous Huawei phone which I've had for 3,5 years.
It seems like a lot has changed and I'm slowly getting back into things.
What are your experiences with different Kernels and custom Roms on this device?
(If it matters) I have an EU model and use it mainly for reading and watching videos.
Thanks in advance.

Both the Omega and Blu Spark kernels are promising, they give some nice features and performance increases over stock.
There's not a ton of activity going on in the custom ROM development department but I think that will change over time. There certainly ARE some ROM's being developed but I tried the LineageOS ROM a few weeks ago and though there weren't any major issues, the performance wasn't quite where I needed it to be to consider it as a daily driver for MY needs.
Are you familiar with unlocking the bootloader/SIM unlocking on this device? What about using an MSM tool to unbrick/restore your device in the case of a bad flash? If you're unfamiliar with any of these topics I would do some research and learn the ins and outs (Especially the MSM tool) before you go diving into flashing things onto your phone!
Have a great day
try and see how it works, everyone has different preferences.

It seems like a lot has changed and I'm slowly getting back into things.
What are your experiences with different Kernels and custom Roms on this device?
(If it matters) I have an EU model and use it mainly for reading and watching videos.
Thanks in advance.

Trying to get the thread back on track -- I've been using Omega kernel and have had great results with it. Improved battery w/o any performance issues. Haven't tried any ROMs yet as there are issues with some of them and TWRP isn't 100% working, but if you don't have a problem wiping your device and losing your data/settings after giving them a go, I'd do what the first reply suggested and simply try them out for size.

I second this. I've been using Omega since the first or second release and it's fantastic. Definitely a difference in battery life, and the device runs cooler than stock even when gaming or watching videos on high brightness.
I tried BluSpark briefly a few weeks ago. Seems promising, but Omega seems to be a better fit for me. I also tried ButterLimits mod, but I'm still not quite sure what it's doing exactly and I didn't notice a difference, so I didn't stick with it. Haven't tried any custom ROMs yet.
Dear all,
I woke up to this interesting thread and saw that everyone had so much passions on discussion...
BUT, please keep it civil to each other. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
I have removed some off topic posts from here. Hope we could continue having some positive feedback here.
Thanks.
