broke my pixel - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

I broke my pixel XL last night, I slipped and fell on the ice and landed on my phone in jacket pocket and bent my phone. Now no wifi or Bluetooth everything else works so it is not a worst case scenario. My question is when I get a new one will it have the latest update? I am hoping that I can unlock it.

I saw a thread on here where a guy was trying to get a pixel XL warrantied through Google . I wonder if I should try that.

It depends when the phone was factory sealed. If its after the update then you will have the newest update, otherwise not.

Get a replacement from verizon, sell it as NEW (resale) on swappa, then purchase a google version. Just my .2cents

If you get a replacement through Verizon you must have insurance right? Which would be with Asurion. It will be a refurbished device which is no big deal.. and it should more than likely be on 7.1.
The box isn't sealed in any way so now reason not to open it. I would open it, take sim out, skip WiFi during setup, and then unlock right away. Lots of people have been receiving new from Verizon this week and every one of them was still on the Oct security update.

Can I still unlock 7.1?

Yes

Just got my replacement and it is 7.1.1

You got it from Asuron the insurance or did verizon themselves send you a replacement and you shipped yours back to them ?

Oh thats why. As the other guy said people getting theirs replaced by Asuron were getting a replacement that came with the Oct security update as its latest software. So if you had yours replaced by insurance you would probably be able to use depixel8 to unlock the bootloader.

How much did it cost to replace through asurion?

I think its a $149.00 co pay. Unless they raised it, which is possible since these pixel xl's are more expensive than previous models of comparable phones.

Just received G4 back from repair for bootloop now won't load into android

Hi, so today I have received my G4 back from being away for around 2 weeks for repair after experiencing the bootloop however now the phone doesn't boot into android. When I turn the phone on it shows the LG splash screen but then shows a logo for miniOs and shows a blue screen saying "Factory Reset Status" with a number 2.
Is there anyway I can fix this or do I need to send it back to LG for another 2 weeks?
Thanks
If I were you I'd be incredibly pissed and call them back as soon as I can. They're supposed to fix the phone, not return it broken. I bet that "fix" cost you a few hundred dollars too?

Luckily it was under warranty so it didn't cost anything however still very pissed, also their website doesn't allow me to email them as it constantly says search for model even though the model is already in. See a few reports about LG UK repairs being ****.
Not LG's fault but when it was being delivered it was suppose to arrive yesterday but the delivery came earlier and ignored request for it to be delivered to neighbours.

I can't be bothered with LG anymore. I bought it from Amazon and they will take it back and refund me the money. Now I am ordering Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Done with LG for good. They really have gone the wrong way about customer service. How can you expect someone to buy a phone for £450 and ask them to wait 3-4weeks and not offer replacement.

If its bought outright, they try to repair before replacing.
If you're on contract you get a replacement.

Agree.. But outright should be given a priority.. Apple works that way. Samsung did the same for me few years back. LG has a long way to go with shoddy repairs..

Maybe different where you are. Its not like that with either Samsung or Apple where i am. Apple does not have official stores here , they operate through resellers. Who offer extended warranties. If you have one of those you will get a replacement. Samsung i'm not sure will do this.
The kicker is after one year is up, nobody cares. Just one year warranty where i am.
is the main reason you want a replacement that you do not have a back up phone ?
My back up phone is a blackberry and I can't keep switching from one to another every time LG decide to give me another broken refurb phone. Which is locked to 5.1 probably because Marshmallow is a phone breaker for LG. Anyhow, don't care now. Samsung arrived. Good riddance LG. Wont be going for them anymore. Good luck to all of you with bootloops and issues with service centres. Life's good without LG in my pocket.

Google Trade-in Program for Pixel 2 XL

I traded in my verizon Pixel XL that was a year old that was in mint condition with an unlocked bootloader. I did a factory flash of the latest factory image on my trade in before I sent in. Google is trying to tell me that my device was not factory reset and are only giving me $160 with an estimated trade in value of $400. Is anyone else having the same issue?
Is that a reasonable price for my trade in? I'm livid over this situation and they won't even send me back my old device so I can sell somewhere else.

I've seen some people complain about this, so I'm just going to keep my phone. I think some people mentioned this in the below thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/how-to/trade-status-post-t3691298
I also think some people mentioned issues on the Google product forums.
If they do this to me, I will NEVER buy anything from Google again.

and for the record, google doesnt handle the trade-ins, they are handled by third party companies.

Same here. I made a video of me reseting my Pixel and showing the screen was perfect. I've got Google's attention with that. They called me today to say they were going to credit me 400.00. They already gave me 160 so I'm guessing I'll get 240 back.
I made a video for fear that the Pixel XL would get damaged in that shi*tty mailer. I think Google is intentionally weasling out of what they promised for trade in. Without the video, I doubt they would have credited me. I'll never trade a phone into them again. I'll just sell on Swappa.

How long till they even got it? I sent mine Nov 2.
Was your bootloader locked? I did factory reset and locked bootloader. Will be pissed if I don't get full value....it wasn't a month old.
Sent from my marlin using XDA Labs
The device was delivered October 26th. I had contacted Google support a couple of times and they told me it was stuck in shipping. On November 6 they magically received the device and valued my device at $160. I have a case open right now with Google and I disputed the charge through Synchrony Bank who Google uses for financing the new device. So right now I'm not making any payments until the dispute has been resolved.
If anyone gets burned on their trade in and didn't take pictures of their phones before sending it in let this be a lesson in a relatively unimportant part of our lives(phones). You always document everything.....and I mean everything when it there is any possibility that you will need to provide proof of something. As someone who has been through 2 natural disasters and has lost everything I have ever worked for in my life twice at a relatively young age of 34 you could have made this same mistake in something much more costly like proving damage in your residence due to a disaster or even proving fault at the scene of an accident. Pictures and video are your best tools to prevent issues. Good luck.
Not trying to hijack here but has anyone else worried that the phone would end up there with a broken screen due to the minimal return packaging?

Yes, many have. Some even called Google. Some put the bag in a box or cardboard reinforcement. Many took pictures.
Yeah, I took a lot of pictures of the additional packaging and it being factory reset in case they want to challenge me. It's not Google that reviews the phones, it's 3rd party so I didn't trust they would do a good job

What about leaving the bootloader unlocked? I factory reset but did not re-lock. I've read the conditions several times and nothing was said about a locked bootloader. Sure hope they don't try to gig me over that.

RMA Refurbished Units

So I got my RMA, but it came in as a refurbished unit. Now I wouldn't normally care, but the speakers were noticeably damaged out of the box and I can't imagine they thoroughly checked it before shipping out the refurbished unit. The next one had burn in out of the box somehow. Does anyone else have any experiences with getting refurbished units from RMAs? And is there a possibility of new units being in stock for replacement? These experiences are making me weary of the refurbished unit.
I got my first RMA and it was a new unit. Haven't really seen others getting a refurbished. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Did google require you send everything back including OEM box and charger? Or just the defective phone? I have received an RMA asking me to send "only" the phone back and am worried this is implying they are sending me "only" a phone in return, i.e. refurbished.

From what I heard it was always a matter of whether or not they had any new devices in stock for exchange. They copy and pasted something along the lines of we do not know the availability of the warehouse as it depends on the stock or something along those lines each time I asked in my 7 RMAs

Verizon Replacement

My Pixel 2XL has had terrible battery life recently, and Accubattery tells me that my estimated capacity is around 3000 mAh.. I'm considering getting a replacement from Verizon since my family has the insurance plan, but does anyone know if Verizon is still replacing phones with Google versions? My first replacement (current phone) was one directly from Google, which allowed me to unlock/root, etc. Just wanted to see if anyone had replaced recently before I make up my mind!

I thought about that option, but then I wouldn't have a technical IP rating. Also because the replacement from Verizon was free, since I'm within the two year manufacturer warranty. I figured I may as well test my luck with a certified refurbished unit, just fingers crossed it's unlockable.
Free beats $79.99. Would've done the same thing.

Question [CLOSED] FRP Locked Pixel

Hi!
I recieved a Pixel 6P with FRP lock from ebay. I've unlocked older pixels few years ago which were locked the same way.
Does the same method still work? Or the new methods I saw on YT? Should I send it back to the seller?
Haven't tried yet, just wanted to make sure.
Send it back for a cash refund. Don't make it your problem.

I'd bite the bullet; $50 is better than losing everything. The imei could be blacklisted latter. A lot of scamming going on

Given the tool in question requires access to an emergency dialer and, to the best of my knowledge, the Pixels don't have an emergency dialer, the tool won't work.

The fact FRP has kicked in on it at all means it is a lost or stolen phone. This means the IMEI is quite likely blacklisted. Since IMEI blacklists are global in scope, managing to unlock the device would still not give you a usable unit. I would eat the $50 and return this unit without hesitation.
+1...a total hassell and really not worth it. Hope is was from an established seller and/or you paid with paypal or your bank card has refund guaranties. It sux than there is soo much scamming going on with trying to buy a decent used phone these days. You just about have to stick with one of the major resellers these days...like Swappa but that makes it much less likely to stumble upon a smokin' deal.
