Music player and gaming issues. - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

1)My music player shows the thumbnails of the pics that were shot in camera in ALBUMS instead displaying the album's thumbnail itself.
2) Asphalt 8 is kinda laggy with lotta frame drops.
3) when started MC5, the cpu load goes to 100% without any background apps. and the cores at max, which makes the phone hot and all the sensore freaking out above 60s and 70s in CPU-z with the msm constantly above 46.

Youtube videos

I downloaded a few youtube videos as .flv files and uploaded them onto my MDA compact 3 storage card ( sandisk 2GB ). I installed a program called TCPMP which plays them ( .flv, .avi, etc ). Picture quality and sound is great. However, the picture often freezes for a second or two or more, on and off during the course of the video. The sound continues with no problem. Anyone else have this problem?
This is normal for the Artemis when playing heavy videos, because of its slow processor.
Try this operations:
- close all active processes
- free up RAM memory, for example using Oxios Hibernate
- overclock your pda to 286 mhz, for example using Battery status.
you can also use vicky

Thanks mate. Does converting to avi or 3GP make it run smoother than as .flv?

Yep, I agree it runs smoother when I've closed running apps. I'll give this Oxios a try as well.
How do I overclock? Not sure I follow you about using battery status, and is there some risk in overclocking? Wouldn't want to overheat my cpu.
The first time you must inizialize the application BatteryStatus, setup CPU to 286 mhz in the "Omap" window.
After you must overclock temporary only when playing videos or great applications, clicking on frequency of CPU in today screen.

Does OMAP work stable in 286Mhz?

Youtube performance

is it me, or do you guys experience the same thing? when playing youtube films with the youtube app included in the diamond, it never plays 100% smooth.. especially in the beginning of the film it stutters a lot, sometimes the playback stops for a full second. After like 15 a 20 seconds it's better, but i keep on seeing stuttering. I owned a iphone (I know and youtube there always plays without any stuttering. For the rest iphone is piece of crap, but still it's one thing that bothers me... i have it in every rom, official ones, dutty's, swift's...) when i use coreplayer to play youtube, it's a lot better, but still especially in highest quality it stutters sometimes.. When i play a avi file it plays perfectly, not a single stuttering.... (also with coreplayer)
Never saw this problem, 95% of all clips running smooth and without any stuttering.
Wrong forum.
I've played about 30 youtube clips and all have played fine.
When you say stutter do you mean buffering or stuttering?

At the begining, the phone not only playing the video but also downloading it from the internet. Especially when your download speed is fast, the cpu could not afford the heavy load from both tasks. So it could not have smooth playback. When the download is complete, the playback will be smooth like silk.
An interesting thing is that if your download speed is not that fast, the diamond can have smooth playback while downloading at the same time. I have to say it is your perfect network connection caused this problem.
You can choose High Quality or fast download in settings.

Same here, happens on all ROMS I have used, once the video is fully downloaded playback is perfect.
sorry i posted in the wrong forum, should be diamond section.. but seems you guys are right.. especially when i'm on wifi i have the stuttering. i'll check what happens when download completes and i'll try on 3G or edge. I know i can choose between high quality or fast download.. but i like the high quality on this brilliant vga screen so I set it to high quality.
Thanks alot, now i know where the problem comes from, still its a pity that such powerfull device cannot handle this properly...

Video playback and some testing

So after reading up and finding that video playback isnt brilliant on the tp2 i thougt i would do some tests.
my goal was to find an easy way to watch films. I dont really want to have to convert all my films to mp4 and use the htc album, but i dont really want to have to switch of sense and soft reset every time i have a spare 1/2 hour.
So using the same footage I ran multiple formats on the following players:
coreplayer, TCMP, Media Player and HTC album.
Not really sure how conclusive it is ( and there is certainly more testing that can be done)
i am going to try using MP4forHD to convert the file a last time and try that on all players
have a look at the results and let me know what you think
So basically what you're saying is that the only videos that work are the original AVI and some MP4s with coreplayer without Sense turned on. That sucks.
Interesting results. I have never bothered trying with sense or spb mobile shell off, but for most videos I watch (640x320 or something close, i.e., vga resolution), they seem to work ok on the tilt2. I get some annoying pixelation with TCMP, but the default windows media player seems to play them pretty crisply and smoothly. the only tradeoff there is WMP is pretty low on the totem pole feature wise.
it also seems odd to me that your results get worse when sense is turned off. It's more intuitive that it would work better if you have more ram available. Could this be an issue with a custom rom you flashed? I am using the stock ATT with spb mobile shell. Did you try a different media file?
I am using the stock rom
from what i understand the HTC and windows media use some sort of graphics acceleration
so you dont need to turn off sense.

True, that makes sense. Still not sure why things get worse with Sense off, but maybe that is just the human side of the measurement, as they do all look pretty close between the two sets? And actually, it gets better for Core, worse for TCMP, and then about the same for the other two.
Do you think it would be worth trying with a different SD card, or better: trying a small video loaded from the device? If you play from the device, you at lease take the age/quality of the SD card out of the experiment as a variable. Even though you wouldn't watch a video from the device in real life, it may be a better way to benchmark, unless you are benchmarking for a specific card.
I think adding a streaming file to the test would be interesting too. Anyway, thanks for the research on this. It is a very interesting topic, imo.
The muisc player wasn't working for me either, and movies really sucked! nothing would play.
I switched roms and now everything works, music plays and comes up in the player, and movies look and play good.
I converted with AVS here are my settings:
Video codec: MPEG4(divX/Xvid compatible)
Audio codec: MPEG2/4 Audio
Frame Size:
Width: 368
Height: 208
Frame Rate:
Bitrate: 520
File Type: mp4 PSP
Channels: Stereo Sample Size: 16bit
Sample Rate: 48000Hz Bitrate: 128kbps
I watched on the built in player and didn't have to turn anything off, my fully charged battery lasted for almost 4 hours of nearly constant use ( i turned it off after i got under ~7% left).
PocketDiVXEncoder
hard to go wrong with PocketDiVXEncoder
http://www.pocketdivxencoder.net/EN_index.htm
its free, and makes amazingly good playable .avi's out of almost anything
the 1.7mb :30 second clip attached below was encoded at 300k video/96k audio, and the whole movie is about 390megs @ this level of quality.
Anything made in PDE thats <= 1200k/128k/640x480 seems to play flawlessly in COREplayer
my issue is that if i have to convert any file to anyformat its a real pain.
on the td2 i could tranfer a avi fil from my laptop to the sd card and watch the film no problem.
now i have to convert it to a mp4 or something and to a particular resolution
ok so its about 40mins but its a pain
so bearing in mind that this does need to be done
whats the best format ( i am leaning to mp4)
whats the best resolution settings
whats the best prog ( i am using mp4for hd at the moment)
cheers

Youtube/video stutter

I had this problem since i bought One X almost a year ago. Youtube stutters a lot, almost like cpu cant catch up. Video plays fluidly for one second, then stutters/drops frames for a moment. Then another half second or one second of normal playback, than few random dropped frames again. Audio doesnt stutter or block at all. Doesn't matter if i change quality on youtube.
It's not low bandwidth, all videos are buffered far enough ahead. This only happens in youtube app and in in-browser player. If I play or stream some video in one x's default player, no stuttering. MX player also doesn't stutter at all even with 1080p mkv's.
While I play video in youtube app, microcpu shows one core constantley jumping between 10% and 100% with seccond core activating every couple of seconds. Could it be because cpu is switching frequencies/cores while playing? Or switching from that 5th tegra core to normal cores?
Anyway the effect is most obvious in videos with camera panning: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qd-_kFJn_LM.
When i play that video on huawei mediapad 7 lite (really low end tablet) or ip4, video is absolutely smooth. No stuttering at all.
Any ideas?

Try to get some custom kernel for your phone. And see what governor, IO shcaduler works best with it.
That video looks and plays perfectly on my stock one x 4.1 no stuttering at all, and I have no issues with any other youtube video's all is good for me.

no way to refresh Samsung (native) Music app really?

Someone said to place all new music in internal and then it will be recognized.
Another way is to clear app's data.
Really? No refresh option? Cmon Samsung.
Well I had started the phone over at the time of my prev post..right now thats 3+ hrs ago and that shutdown / startup was after a total data clear in the apps settings Samsung Music app storage, and a unmount of the ext sd.
I just think it is interesting to see the difference in the Samsung indexing compared to the vlc indexing for my music. VLC takes upwards of a half hour. Samsung however has taken over three hours and is not nearly done yet. Of 7 or 8 newly added music folders, still only 3 have showed up (folders tab allows for sort by recently added).
It looks like a 6 hour indexing job or at the very least 4. Probably 6 as I just happened to look down and saw the tail end of some kind of toast notification of passing the first 10000 song point of loading.
Pretty tarded app. REALLY needs a refresh button if it is this slow to index.
But it does look good scrolling thru all the albun covers.
Just had a thought...hope it isn't screwing with my custom created artworks. That would be totally uncalled for.
No checking on a jpg file it remains at its original shape and size.
I have been watching this indexing of the music by the Samsung Music app, very closely.
It returned both positive quantities and negatives so far.
I consider this to be one of the best sets of native apps of any phone so far, but the music app being the only AOD enablable app for lockscreen music has me baffled and disappointed. Though not entirely.
On one hand it is really blows it in that it has taken over 6 hours so far and only 3 of 8 of my newly added folders have been loaded.
Additionally it misses the ball on SEVERAL of the artwork configurations which VLC (not supported in AOD) picks up easily.
First the pro column, it looks good in album view and scrolls real smooth, without using 7 GB for APP Data (which is what vlc takes to run my music collection) (where is it storing the data? is my question here); refer to screenshots 1, 3 &4 &8.
However, there is a small number of album arts missing, and more than expected albums in the 'Unknown Album' position of the 'U's in the alphabet. Which indicates to me that there could be some id tag misrecognition or unrecognition someplaces;
refer to screenshot 15 &16.
Finally the Samsung native music app sees the artwork as different in albums where different songs have different artworks, but only in instances where those arts and songs are nested in separate folders. Such as my version of the Pulp Fiction soundtrack.
In cases where the artworks were embedded separately in the songs of a compilation to show their original album arts, which is how I did the Word Of Mouth compilation, (which I also screenshotted here from the Samsung file manager which displays that in the file manager we can see the individually embedded songs embedded arts in its little file manager thumbnail) there is no individually embedded artwork recognition in the AOD enabled samsung music app. The lockscreen displays show that VLC will have these Word Of Mouth albun arts as different.
Seen in the remaining screenshots:
It's not the only AOD enabled music app. Good play music works just fine as do others.

I am of course speaking of the following always on display as seen in the following screenshot
(though I haven't tried those other apps) ...and not the screenshots in my prior post which are lockscreen shots.
Meanwhile after a decharge today from 100% down to now 44%, it has still not indexed my music files completely as at least one folder is still not seen atop the latest folders list. Most of them just showed up in the last hour or two though. About 24 hours so far since it started.
Presumably it must be storing all these artworks in the system, they are all there as I scroll the lists.
As my sd isn't formatted to the phone but only external.
Man, just buy a better sd card and dont blame the phone for this or atleast try to format this one and try again.
Man. Maaaaan haha. Don't tell people what to do. Aggression indicated stupidity thats just stupid you know. Literally. Loser. I bet you don't even keep any music on your phone. Probably using Spotify. Not me I'm from a different generation. We used to buy physical copies of our music albums, and carry them around with us. The music then was better too.
The phone must be using some sort of sdcard block by block scan eh. It still finding items on the thing. Not exactly a normal method to find files. I'm guessing it locates the head folder, but in my case it's a complex tree.
So if it is the sdcard being 500 GB card. That's a pretty good sized card anyway.
But it is still finding stuff screenshotted it then left it over night (after charge and restart) and it added some 10 more albums or so to the list.
It's not about size of card, but read/write speed, the slower the card the longer it takes for the phone to update the album arts.
I have no problem with this app. I have 6 GB music files in my SD card and it loads all albums and album arts immediately when I open the app. My SD card is Samsung Evo+ 128GB.
Slowly now. Latest rate appears to be finding about 1/hr. Samsung card. Singly written. Couple months old. EVO.
Also it is really fast to load those arts once it finds the absolute block in the SD cards file system.. VLC has always been ultra slow at loading all the music. If one were to attempt to enter an artist heading in VLC or album heading, it could take minutes to resolve the artist or album.
This app has its negative points, but it also has its positive points. I am not here to criticize the app. I am here making a point to observe it. Really pleased with the Samsung apps as I said in the op. The keyboard and the file manager I especially like. The points where the music app slips in finding some arts are probably gonna be repairable by changing out the few non functional music files on a case by case basis.
Seriously fast app for loading the musics and arts. real time jump anywhere in the list by track or albun. Very pleased.
VLC vs Samsung data usage stat for 300 GB of music. this app is like a window to my SD card.
Samsung s native music app is trash honestly.
I would recommend a alternative like vinyl player or black player.
Not pleased again. Used Smart Switch to do a phone backup, took out the sd card, put back in, restored the backup, and now it is re-indexing the music again. So once again my latest added folders are not here. Once again can't listen to my newest adds like Madonna's GHV2 for example, if I wanted to (with the Samsung music app, at least). Which blows.
I thought once it built its music index it would store it in the permanent. now back to square 1.
I'm glad i don't mess around with this stuff any more. I uploaded all my music to Google Play Music and never looked back. Available anywhere, on any device with internet and i can always download music from Play Music if i really need to. I don't have any need to carry thousands of albums in my pocket.

That's cool. is that a sharable playlist or what? I can't say as I've heard of that one how does it work? You pay a subscription fee or what?
I have purchased a few albuns off of Google play store but I don't like the feeling of staying connected to the internet. So I can't rely on the internet.
Really ridiculous this app is slowly reloading those folders again. This all started cause I heard from the Samsung store that they could replace my carrier version of the software with something from Samsung. Which they then failed to do. Not something I would do very often.
Massive deceleration curve for this indexing thing. Been screenshotting the progress over the past several hours. The window over thr albums holds it's viewpoint above the list. Say it was started in the 4th quarter of the Alphabet (by albun population) at album number 1200, after 400 albums are added it enters the third quarter by going through first the T's backwards from Tzolkin Date to T Rex.Then on into the S's rising towards the top but staying at a viewpoint of album #1200 in the list, which now would have over 1600
While the population happens over a graph of time on the x axis. The y axis charts the speed of albums added. The curve is hyperbolic deceleration over time.
Last time the indexing was being completed, I saw a few albums still being added. (before the restart happened today).
Between 5 or 1 (guestimated but def. odd numbered amount) entries appeared sometime after noon today as shown in the following two screenshots. Seen by the shift of the Title on the upper left into the right column. This happened around 60 hours after the start of indexing Tuesday evening.
I think send feedback to developer of app and till they fix the problem try another app , i use Poweramp for years for all my music needs
