I just received it today went through the initial setup and restarted it, I am now getting the Connecting to Google...message for 1 hour. I have tired using LAN and Wireless resetting several times and no success.
Now the bad news is, no way to get into fastboot on this device using the hold the power button down, since the new version doesn't have a micro-usb port nor a power button.

to get into fastboot you have to use the usb port farthest away from hdmi port. with usb 3 male to male cable.

I have a USB-A to USB-C Cable. I tried it in both ports, but still can't figure out how to get into fastboot without a power button. When I connect to PC, I am not prompted for drivers.

as i stated above, l haven't been able to get past the Connecting to Google message, which is the reason i am trying to reset the unit via bootmenu/fastboot.
I purchased two units and the other one is working fine, but the remote is no longer fast scrolling after it did a firmware update(another words when i try to scroll through my apps list on the main screen I have to keep pressing the right part of the remote repeatedly instead of holding it down. it also highlights the current position in green, it didn't do this before the update.
I get it today.

Do you have another Android Phablet? Yeah I guess someone had to throw it out there. 'Cause it sounds to me like its (i.e. the Shield), is waiting on some 2FA from a Phablet, PC, Note/Net-book to port your otherwise current Google Account over to the Shield.
So barring the rest of it. Do you even have a Google Account? Again I can only assume that some People have a more fruity lifestyle than others. So please don't take to much offence at this.
'Cause on just on the off chance that you don't.... This will almost certainly be your problem. I can't really, say that I have fully as such exhausted every option in that setup mode. As it was clearly, setup to be paired though a Phablet. Which I have, and am using to post this very Message. So it's a bit of a non starter, for me.

I did use my Nexus 6P to set up the Nvidia Shield. It completed, told me I had a firmware update at which point I clicked the install and restart button. Update installed and restarted again, at which point I got the Connecting to Google.. message.
I just managed to fix it! I decided to change the language (since that was one of the few things I could do.) It gave me a weird message, and proceeded with the startup. I have to figure out how to change the language back to English, but once I did it is working normal.

Have you tried a different cable? Sounds like you've tried a different port, considering you plugged it into your 360...
Your USB port might be dying/dead....
I have not tried a different cable yet. I was thinking about gettin one from amazon to try. I hope it's just the cable.

If you have a PS3, some cameras, etc use the exact same plug. Anything mini-USB - even tho it doesn't look like it matches up, it'll work.

Yes, I know. I was trying to coax you into using other cables that are around your house that have this similar plug. The 'default' HTC cable looks like the one you posted, but I wanted you to be aware that other cables will work just fine - like the miniUSB standard cable I posted above!!
Oh ok. Well I guess I could try a few. See what happens.
I have the same problem with my TP2.
Tried different cables, different computers, but problem is still there.
I can't connect TP2 with computer, can't sync with Outlook, at least I can flash ROM from mSD card
Any ideas, solutions, maybe there's some fix for this issue?!

Has it ever worked? Perhaps it's a hardware issue with the plug. I assume it charges OK?
^ Yes, it worked well in the past. Charging is OK, wiht AC adapter and with USB cable connected to computer. Only ActiveSync doesn't work.

Yes
I even reinstaled the system, Win7, WinXP, changed cables, changed computers, even changed ROMs (Energy, Jackos...), still nothing
Weird thing is that charging works just fine, but sync don't...?
I suspect you have a hardware problem with the port on your device. Maybe use a magnifying glass and look at the brass pins inside the port and see if you see any bent or missing pins. You could have two pins touching that could be shorting. Maybe the only solution is repair/replacement.

I'd say that is your best bet. It's entirely possible that the pins for charging (only 2) are fine, while the remainder (I think there's a total of 11?) or a portion of the remainder of the pins are messed up...
Good luck!

When you connect your phone to the computer, does it even recognize it, I mean does your computer detect that something got connected to the usb? Were you always plugging it in to the same USB port on your computer?
I HAD the same problem-charging was ok, but no sync. Well...
First of all, check your cables (my TP2 won't work with cables from my old TYTN II). Use cables for particular model, those contacts can be tricky. Now, in your phone's USB to PC settings uncheck "enable faster data sync". It worked for me. Now phone syncs, no problem. When pc starts recognizing your new device, phone will use 3g connection to download some 11MB of drivers, so you must have some credits in order to connect to 3g. Now it works like a charm, no problems whatsoever...
If your PC recognizes the device, but doesn't sync, try this: when connected go to your PHONE's active sync and sync it from there. Worked with me once I had that "issue"...
well, this is rather embarrassing, I can't seem to find a way to use the phone as mass storage like I did with T989.
I just got it today brand new, already rooted via odin > cwm method.
When I plug in usb cord, I can only access it via MTP but it won't let me transfer large 700mb file.
Enter Settings and tap "Storage". There you should have a menu icon (the vertical triple blocks - on my tablet it's in the top/right - YMMV) which gives you a option called "USB computer connection". Tap it, change from "Media Device (MTP)" to "Mass Storage".

In this case your SGN2 doesn't seem to support Mass Storage mode. It's there on my SGT10.1 running CM10.
For anyone with a similar problem, the white USB cable that comes with this phone (in some systems like mine) doesn't send data to computers - it only supplies power.
Many people have reported this and I just confirmed it on my system. I connected my NOte 2 to my system with 5 other usb cords and my system found the device. Every time I connected it with the Samsung white usb cable, the computer doesn't see the Note 2.
Either Samsung did something with this usb cable or they really are sending a lot of defective usb cables out.

Thats not true i always use the white usb on my computer..... Its just hit or miss sometimes
I'm not able to mount it as a mass storage device either, my only options are "Media Device" or "Camera", neither of which show up as an actual drive on my windows machine. and i'm not using the white usb cord that came with it, i'm using my own cord that i've used for years, and with many other devices.

Maybe give Easy UMS a try. I use it on my SGS3 for USB Mass-Storage Mode, and according to the thread it also seems to work on the Note 2.
Though, keep in mind:
This app will make the external (not the internal!) microSD card of your Samsung Galaxy S3 (International, US versions, International LTE) available as USB mass storage device.
Easy UMS WORKS!

I'm running Jedi-X V1 (wanted MultiView real bad, which works sweetly) on my T-Mobile GNote2 and Easy UMS worked GREAT.
It's usage is not extremely intuitive: Click the UMS button to make it run in mass storage mode, attach to computer, do your file transfer thing, SAFELY EJECT when done, wait a few seconds, then click "Mount SD" to get the card back for your android to use.
After using the phone I went to re-connect it to the computer, and found that a couple of apps were using the SD card, so I long-pressed home, clicked Task Manager (the pie graph at the bottom) and used the Clear Memory function to kill innactive apps, freeing the card up to be unmounted and UMSed,

I ordered the RavPower WD01 battery-powered wireless hub with wireless bridge mode when it went on sale for 50% off on Amazon (it's still on sale and here's the link, if you're interested - http://www.amazon.com/RAVPower%C2%AE-RP-WD01-Wireless-WiFi-Disk-Li-Polymer/dp/B00AQUMZRA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362256659&sr=8-1&keywords=ravpower+wd01 ). I wanted the ability to use portable media that I already have with my note and had been contemplating purchasing this unit due to the awkward placement of the proprietary power port that you need to plug OTG cables into. The Ravpower hub solves this issue since it's wireless.
The vendor processed and shipped my order promptly; unfortunately, a snow storm in the Midwestern US delayed the shipping company by several days. I've now had the unit for several days and can only say one word, WOW. This device exceeds my expectations. It's well worth the investment and can be used not only with Android and IOS devices, but with PCs as well.
The WD01 Is a compact device that's slightly smaller than a deck of cards. It's shipped well-protected in a sturdy box with foam enclosures that surround and it.

In addition to the WD01, the box contains a USB charging cable to charge the internal 3000 MAH battery and brief instructions. The battery on my unit was partially charged when I received it so I was able to set it up immediately. The WD01 has a slot for an SD card and a full-sizes USB port that can support flash drives and external hard drives (up to 2T).
The photo I've linked shows a flash drive and an SD card installed, but I have plugged my 2T hard drive and some smaller capacity hard drives into the unit and it could read all of them.
There is a free app that you can download and intall to setup the WD01, but as other reviewers have noted, you don't need it. What you need to do once you power on the device is wait for the WDO1's internal router to complete its power up, which can take a minute or so. Once the blue WIFI indicator light for the router stops blinking go to your note's WIFI settings and you should see a new network beginning with WIFI, click on connect. When prompted for a password, input the default, which is: 11111111. (That's eight 1s.) You can now use your Internet browser to set up your WD01 and I would recommend this method since you can configure more of the features than you can with the app. I also recommend using Dolphin HD or Firefox over the stock browser. Once your note has connected to the WD01 pull up your browser and input the default iP address of the WD01, which is 10.10.10.54 . You'll see the main login page.
The user name, which cannot be changed, is admin. The defaut password empty so just hit enter. This will launch a wizard that will take you through all the settings and allow you to set your own passwords for the device as well as change the default IP address for browser access to settings. You also set up the WD01's wireless bridge mode through the wizard. This feature will allow the WD01 to connect to your router so you can access the Internet via your router while connected to it. A word of warning, however, your mileage may vary with this feature depending on you router. Some routers now support WDS with strong WPA2 encryption, many don't. My router doesn't support WDS so I tested briefly putting my router into bridge repeater mode, but I also had to reduce my encryption down to WEP (with attendant speed reductions). It worked, but I quickly reverted my router back to its previous settings with WPA2 encryption. The wireless bridge feature isn't critical to me. However, when I next upgrade my router I'll make sure it supports WDS with WPA2 encryption. If you set up the wireless bridge mode, you can also configure dynamic dns on the WD01.
Once the wizard has taken you through all the settings, you'll see the main WD01 browser screen.
This allows easy navigation to make changes again to network settings.
You can even search attached media by name.
If you have a file manager that supports SMB, like ES File Explorer, you can use it to view and open files once connected to the WD01.
All files I tested, including audio books, MP3 and MP4 formats opened quickly and played flawlessly.
If you so desire, you can download the free AIRSTOR app to setup the device, but if you don't like bloatware, I recommend against it. The WD01 runs for about 5 hours on its internal battery. Up to 5 devices can connect to it at a time. The range on mine is about 25 feet before the signal gets too weak. I highly recommend this device. It's well worth the money.
FYI - It is on sale at Newegg.com for $40 from a third party. I think a number of similar units will come on the market shortly. However, I picked up one of these.
PS If you need warranty service, newegg is insisting on having the original box.

Is there any workaround for it?
I can confirm this. Miracast is not working on 7.0 (NPD90G).

Really?
Thanks for the heads up. I had to root my 5X just to enable it (to change build.prop). And haven't allowed any updates since. I'd love to try Nougat, but not if it just cripples things I use.
I also had to root to enable apps to be able to access USB flash drives. Anyone know if Google resolved this in Nougat?

I have Nougat installed and I try to connect to my microsoft wireless display adapter v2. I find it in the cast menu, but if I hit connect, the display adapter says connecting on the TV, but it is never successful.
Though I have to mention, that my adapter is pretty new and I never tried with Android 6, maybe it didn't work there either.
Greetings,
liebero
P.S: Did anyone successfully connect the microsoft wireless display adapter v2 with Android 6? Then I try switching back.
I'm on Android 7.0 NBD90W and the persist.debug.wfd.enable=1 fix doesn't work anymore. I've tried it on 2 LG smart TVs already.
I can confirm that Miracast to Microsoft display adaptor works on marshmallow. I have upgraded to nougat and it didn't work so I downgraded to marshmallow and plan to stay on marshmallow till I get a new phone. Probably going to go with a windows phone or an unlocked LG/Samsung. Seems Google no longer cares to offer Miracast so I'm hoping some of the other phone manufactures will include it.
Yes Mirracast is not working on Nougart but does work on Marshmellow
I can confirm that Miracast DOES NOT work on Nougat. This is so frustrating. I had to downgrade to Marshmallow Miracast is flawless on M. I have tried every ROM under the sun with the same results. Miracast FAILS to display with Nexus 6 and Nougat.

I had to buy a Chromecast because of this "bug" on Nougat, btw now I'm going to go back to Marshmallow on my 6P, since my 5X already died in a bootloop.
Hey there,
is this an Nexus 5X problem only? I'm using a OnePlus 3T with Android 7.0 and had also trouble connecting to my Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter plugged into my car radio. It always tried to connect while showing "Connecting..." but then just stopped. Somehow I managed to establish the connection, the problem is I don't know how.
I tried multiple things:
- Connecting from while Airplane Mode ist active
- Connecting while being connected via Bluetooth
- Switching to 2,4GHz WiFi only
None of those settings seemed to work so I switched them all back.
The day it finally worked I did the following:
- I was in the car with a friend who helped me out with trying to connect the device. About 30 connection tries after with multiple different settings (see above) were unsuccessful.
- I've been at his place about 2 hours, doing nothing special on the phone.
- When I got in the car afterwards, my OnePlus 3T could not find the wireless display adapter.
- After I stopped the engine (which does NOT turn off/reset the adapter) the phone could find the Miracast stick and the connection worked.
The last time the connection was successful before this point (I had to reset my device for rooting purposes) the connection always worked, after it was established the first time.
Yes, confirmed. Miracast is not working on Nougat. On Marshmallow it's working just fine.
Confirm, miracast wont work on Android 7. But also got weird acting. Its casting itself to neighbors TVs without me turning cast on. That is loose of privacy And security, i also seen the content What my neighbors whatching on theirs YouTube TV. How to fix issue, do anyone face same problem?
Its working on LineageOS, but yes doesn't work on nougart

I'm having the same problem. it used to be fine and then all the sudden, it doesn't connect to the pc anymore.
Good afternoon!
I am from Brazil and I have the same problem unfortunately and without a solution so far and I believe it is a physical defect ....
Before I suspected that the last security update of the month 12/2020 could have caused this but seeing this topic there are people with this problem since 09/2020, that is before the android security update ...
I follow the topic to see if someone gives a light because mine is the same way I connect on the PC with his original usb cable and the device just keeps charging and does not open the menu to select the data transfer mode and even if I go to "Developer options" and enter usb settings and leave selected data transfer, nothing happens unfortunately it just keeps charging and doesn’t connect with the computer.
I did tests with other usb cables and nothing and also tried to connect to a Macbook Air and the same thing the device only charges and nothing else.
Detail the OTG function of it works normally because I connected an OTG adapter with a pen drive and recognized it normally in the cell phone and became the only way to transfer his data to a pc using the otg adapter and a pen drive for this solution.
try closing google chrome on your laptop , then connecting your phone.

Good afternoon Lizzo !!
Boy, I thank you for the tip, but I've done it here and nothing ...
In fact I've tried I believe that everything ...
I have already restored the device and nothing to recognize on the PC.
I entered recovery connected to the pc and nothing to recognize.
I plugged in 2 different pcs and a notebook nothing.
I plugged in a 2011 Macbook air and nothing to recognize.
I plugged in normal USB 2.0 and 3.0 also nothing to recognize.
I called the multimedia in my car that mirrors the image of the cell phone and also nothing to recognize the cell phone.
Anyway it only charges when connected to any USB and the OTG function normally works because I connect a samsung adapter that I have and a pen drive and it recognizes normally ....
In other words, unfortunately a device of 400 USD that presents an idiotic defect like that of not connecting to the pc unfortunately ....
Even so I thank you for the tip and I'll keep an eye out to see if anyone else gives a tip.
Thank you all.
I have been thinking that I had the same problem, so I contacted the customer support and they told me to do this:

Hello
Enable dev mode by click 5 times in setting-about your phone, and search usb configuration in the sear bar, find default usb configuration and choose file transfile.
I tried it and it didn't work, so I tried everything I could think of and connected the phone to an old windows computer (I was using apple computers) and it worked, it seems that Mac os doesn't detect the phone while windows ones do.
So if you guys are trying with Mac os, maybe you had the same problem.
