Is it possible to connect a USB Flash Drive to Touch. I want to use USB cable extender to connect the Flash Drive. Does WM6 recognize the USB Flash Drives or not?
it's a little more in depth than a cable, as yet, I have not seen anyone who has figured it out. We are not sure if the drivers for host capability exist, and you will need a speacial cable with all kinds of pulldown resistors and whatnot in order for the device to get power.
no it's the hardware usbchip which dont support it
no work around
Kinda makes me wonder why no one has come up with a small battery powered bluetooth hard drive.. That would be pretty sweet..
Seems like if it was battery powered... it would be dead in five minutes lol

I spoke to Seagate apparently they will only be selling this through the OEM channel. not directly to consumers. So I don't who would carry this and if we can buy it.
But they go upto 60GB.
Anyone knows where we can get it?

a harddrive no but a flash drive should be perfectly within the usb spec this phone is built to it would just be a matter of proper drivers which probably are out their considering their are printer drivers which are much more compicated and no resistors would be required usb is a serial bidirectional interface not like cat5 their is no hardware crossover or anything required

Is there a way of accessing media files from your pc via internet and to access and use only needed files on my pda. It has to be the internet because the phone does not have wi-fi. I have a Sprint Touch. Storage has ultimatly been my problem. The bluetooth hdd sounded pretty good for my use but its not available. thanks... noob

I assume from your explanation that you are trying to use this when you are home? I would just use the Bluetooth FTP or Bluetooth browser and access the PC that way instead of using airtime.
If you want to use it while you are out then there is a device called Slingbox try googling that.
Good luck.

The MSM 7500 is the chip found in the Vogue...check out connectivity...it lists the port as USB OTG.... short for USB on the Go....which means it has limited hosting capabilities.
Even though Windows does support USB OTG Mass Storage, the problem is that the Vogue is not transmitting enough power via the USB port, which according to USB OTG regulations is OK. Which means you have to use specific selfpowered USB devices (most likely labeled as USB OTG compatible), or provide the power by yourself (splicing cable and adding correct AC adapter...).
HTC DOck
how 'bout this one:
http://www.expansys.com/htc/p_htc_item.aspx?i=145164
kinda big, and I think but here's the info:
Description
Keep the HTC Advantage at hand on a desk and at an ideal viewing angle. The docking station extends the peripheral connectivty of the Advantage and includes:
- A/V interface: VGA (15pin) port, Video out port, S-Video (4 pin) port, 3.5mm audio jack
- Charging & syncing interface: miniUSB port for power charging and synchronization, 2 x USB standard A female port (USB Host), 2nd battery charging slot
- LEDs indicators – 2nd battery, power & sync
Technical Details
(none available)
I'm experimenting with a powered USB Hub... who knows...
I want to buy an HTC Diamond and if it's possible I would use the mini usb port in it like a "host"...so (from the bottom of my lack of knowledge) I'll try to help this "project"...
If I'm not wrong USB On-The-Go is just a "chipset protocol", a feature of its and no more...the only two hdw thinks that a device must have to use it is
1) an AB type port usb (or mini usb as most pdas)
2) a circuit scheme that is able to send 5v to the pin of the port used during the "host mode"
Moreover, on the sfw side, it's necessary to have drivers that recognize and organize the host function of the port...
It's all right?
If I centered the situation I think that the only problem is the lack of 5v power to send to the pin, that's right?
In this case...why don't look (and copy) this?
Then, about the drivers matter, i think is sufficient a look to the others (a few I know) WM devices that already have a native usb host functionality...
I'm sorry if I said a lot of stupid thinks but I said before I just tried to gave an help.
PS: sorry for my english too and (because of this is my first message) Hi all!!!

www.orb.com will do what you want...you don't need a tv tuner to make use of its other capabilities.
Ok, as a lot of you maybe still know NEO1973 will have a USB host functionallity...
Infact it has a USB otg port and it will selled with this option already included.
About that I've found this page: a complete explaination to activate the host function of the port...it could be of any help?
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Neo1973_USB_host
2 quick points:
@dave68 - all of the pieces needed to make a USB flash drive work with the Toshiba E804 PPC (WM2003) already exist - including drivers. All I had to do to make that device work with USB Flash drive and USB HDD was use a powered hub with the WM2003 drivers installed.
@cdred - As already mentioned www.orb.com is one way to go. You will need a PC running the Orb software at home and a way to get to it (i.e. dyndns.org).
The Slingbox is another way to achieve this, or IMHO, the Buffalo LinkStation is a good choice.

Ok so I've been somewhat following Ravpower for a while since I really enjoy their 10,400 mah powerbank and saw on amazon that they have this new product called the WifiDisk out. In comparison, I've been looking at the Seagate Goflex Satellite Mobile Wireless Storage too but it's a bit on the pricey end, and then somehow I came across the Ravpower WiFi Disk on Amazon and went ahead and bought it. It's actually not a wireless mobile external hard drive, but a wireless memory card/storage reader and battery charger. This can read SD cards, USB flash drives/ any storage device that takes 2.0 usb ports. Also you can even charge your phone or tablet too since it has a built in 2.0 USB port.
Pros:
- Creates its own network wireless point/hotspot so I can access my files from anywhere through my phone and tablet.
- Can enable DDNS to allow you to remotely access the device by a registered hostname. If set up (which comes with a cost if you choose to do this), you can access this drive on your tablet, phone, computer from anywhere where there's internet while leaving this device at home. However I think having this personally with you is a better option.
- Built in user interface which can be accessed through any mobile web browser and standard computer or laptop.
- This can be an instant bridge between my computer and portable devices. Once I load something onto the wifi disk with SD card from my computer for example, I can instantly see this on my portable device after refreshing.
- Wirelessly stream my videos and music and access files to my nexus 7.
- I can wirelessly connect this to 5 different devices where I can then stream 5 different videos at the same time. Friends have been very grateful during our road trip.
- I can still connect to my regular internet through this after setting it up.
- Can also be used as an external battery charger. Contains 3,000 mah battery.
- I have an external hard drive already and I can plug it into this, which gives my hard drive wireless access.
- Can have almost unlimited amount of storage space since there is no fixed amount, however you would have to carry a lot of SD cards and/or thumb drives if you want to carry your entire library to minimize bulk and weight.
- Having this device has expanded my storage from 8g on my nexus 7 to unlimited.
- Small, thin, and light to carry around. Really good size to be tucked away in a backpack, purse, duffel bag. Even a pocket.
- Cheaper alternative to more expensive wireless hard drives or cloud services.
Cons:
- Suggested app, "MobileFun", have some issues. I can't seem to transfer files from my wifi disk to my phone and errors sometimes pops up in some Asian language.... Luckily I can access the user control panel on the browser by putting in the wifi disk's ip address http://10.10.10.254/ into the url field.
- Takes a while for the network to show up on my phone and tablet. Might be standard though.
- Wish battery life was longer.
- Range radius is about 10-15 feet.
- Scratches easily and since it's white, I can see it getting dirty fast if you're not careful.
- Wish battery life was longer. 3000mah is not enough for long travels.
- No power gauge so I can't tell how much battery is left in this thing.
I wish the battery life could be longer but I guess 5 hours is ok too if you have a power source kind of close by - like if you're using it on a road trip. I can see some people may want more since this is a pretty useful device and can be used for a long time. The range of the WifiDisk could be better too but still impressive considering this is wireless. Friends and I had a caravan of 3 cars during our trip and the range was ok at times, but it did drop if a car drops 1-2 car lengths away from me The connection does get spotty. Great for media but not so much if you want to get work done because you can't directly work on your files on this device. You can only download it then work on it directly from your laptop or whatever, and then upload it again back onto the sd card or storage with this wifi disk.
Overall, great product for the price. I'm pretty happy with it.

I just saw these on Amazon, one thing I wanted to be sure of. Am I reading right that this will act as a wifi file server, even when no internet is present? We are about to do a long car trip, and it would be good if I could load up one of these for the girls to watch movies on their Kindel Fires on the road.
Thanks

Yup. And it works great. If you go through the Wizard setup, you can make it so you connect to your home internet too. But it works without internet as well. It's its own network hotspot so all you have to do is connect to it from your device as if you're connecting to a new wifi network.
Can the USB port act as a Pass - Thru (when directly connected to the tablet, obviously) for High powered devices such as USB Ethernet Adapter
ie:
USB Ethernet --> RAVPOWER --> USB Cable --> Tablet

I'm not exactly sure.
Got mine and works well. When inserting any usb, it powers the USB which diminishes battery life when stored, so only plug the USB in when you need it otherwise its a pretty cool product.
I have an Anker 10k battery that I add to the mix and my WD 1tb. Yes it's clunky, but when sitting in my laptop bag, I can't see it, but works for hours and hours.
wifi vs. mobile data
A possible showstopper for me is that if I connect to it via wifi, then I lose my mobile data connection. I'd like to be able to use a mobile data app like google navigation while at the same time playing files from the rav wifidisk. If I can't keep both interfaces on, I may end up returning it to amazon. Too bad; it seems to be an amazing device.
I found a solution although I'm not sure how reliable it'll be.
The ravpower wifidisk has two wireless connections; one that accepts clients (LAN) and one where it acts as a client to another wireless network (WAN)
Fortunately it's cifs server listens on both.
I turned on wireless tethering on my phone. Then I connected from a laptop to it's LAN interface (WiFiSD-xxxx) and configured it's WAN/internet wireless connection to connect to the phone's tethering AP. I also ran the windows mobilefun to discover it's WiFiSD-xxxx ip address and connected via internet explorer. username admin; no password.
In there I discovered the IP address that the tethering AP had give it. If that dhcp assigned address doesn't stay put, I'll put in a static address.
Back on the phone, I ran cifsmanager to connect to the RAV, using the ip address the RAV requested from the tethering AP. Now I have both mobile and ravpower connections on the phone.

Hi Green Ranger,
Possible to transfer digital photographs directly from SD card to portable HDD, when both are mounted onto this device.
With only Android smartphone instead of computer / laptop?
Apologies for the late reply, but yes, if you use es explorer or solid explorer, you should be able to browse to your device and copy/paste images into there. I think you need a smartphone/PC to do the transfer, the wifidisk wont do it itself.

Problem with wireless connection
I got my Mini M8s II on 14th July, the WiFi is not working at all, youtube videos pausee, stop or freeze a few seconds later, with kodi, watching movies or TV shows (exodus, salts, Phoenix) is the same problem, get stopped suddenly. I tried changing settings modem Wpa2, wpa+wpa2, wep and the only setup that working is set in Open (no protection) but that is not cool.

Thanks for your experience. Have you tried it with a wired connection? Hope you get it fixed.
Wired it work fine, but the TV Box is far away from my TV.
Again, for the price, this seems to be the better one for me. I hope that the bad wifi can be worked around with an external antenna like the M8S (but I also had to apply a patched fw that someone created).
I need 2G of RAM (even without playing games doesn't take long before it slows down with 1G).
I need BT (headphones, mouse, keyboard)
missing is dual band wifi (would love to offload most of the wifi usage off of 2.4g)
one more USB port would be nice
longer power cord would be nice
external antenna would be nice
Does this box having Android 6 fix the problem where the audio drops every few seconds when passthrough is enabled?
got mine last week, but im having an issue with the language setting, it always changes back to chinese or something like that by itself even without restarting the device, despite that it has been working fine. is anyone having this issue too?
I'm a Chinese, I bought one in China, I do like the spec, exactly what I want,
but I got wifi connection problem too. I try to play movies shared from my PC, and the speed is very unstable, peak could be 3m/s, but 1 or 2 seconds later, it drops to 0, most of the time, speed is under 100k/s
I am asking the seller if there is any ROM update that could fix this problem, he/she said(about half an hour before) that he/she will ask the engineer
I am thinking whether to wait or to return it

They provided an update (rel. 2016-07-19) that fixes the WiFi issues: I get around 40 Mbit downstream easily over WiFi now...
They don't offer the update via OTA right now, it was online for short period but caused problems when downloaded, so they released it and people can copy it to the SD card.

To update:
Extract the 3 files (update.zip, factory_update_param.aml & recovery.img) to the SD Card (root of the SD card, no subfolder please ^^)
start the "update / backup" app on your box
select the update.zip and confirm
box will restart and install the new firmware
Language issue
I am also having the language reset issue.
Whenever I shut the box down after watching tv, the next time that I start the box, it starts with English and then reverts to Chinese after about 45 seconds.
This is a royal pain when you have to change the language back to English every time that you power on the box.
The other thing I've noticed is a long lag in Kodi when moving an external Logitech mouse or entering data with either the built-in or external keyboard.
It definitely stutters.
Otherwise, this would be a great box.
Any fixes for the above issues?
About 10 minutes after the box powered up for the first time, it has found july 4th firmware upgrade (small file about 14mb), then rebooted and almost immediately prompted for July 19th upgrade (430Mb if I remember correctly).
In the old days there was a "project" that had a ISO image of various video samples in all imaginable codecs on AVForums, but I can't find it anymore. Does anyone know if there is something similar with H265 and VP9 files as well? I would want to run through all of the codecs and verify what works and what doesn't.
thanks a lot!
I got OTA and updated my box, the stability feels better, but signal strenth is still not good enough. I tesed it beside router, and it's fast as expected, then put it back to my TV side, where there is a wall between, the speed is poor again. as reference, my phone, oneplus one, can have full wifi speed at the same position. I think Ihave to move my router to a better place
Has anyone found a working root for these S905X boxes yet? If anyone can make it happen I will gladly pay for it.
Does anybody know how to activate ADB via USB with this device? I tried connecting the box to my PC using a special USB cable (offering two Typ-A plugs) but the PC did not find any USB device. So no connection via USB. Without USB connection I cannot activate ADB support. Without ADB support it seems there is no way to have remote access (VNC, RDP etc.) to the box.

Why can't you activate ADB support? Or do you mean a specific support besides ADB debug in the developer options?

I used ADB over WiFi, I didn't even try to use USB because those boxes without an OTG port can usually just be reached via burning tool, for example...

- Unplug power and male USB from the box.
- Load burning tool on the PC
- Press the reset button, keep it pressed and plug in the male USB
- Keep the power lead out at the moment when you see it says on your PC "connected successful" in the burning tool
- Release the button and plug power in

Btw. burning & customization tool hopefully can be used again in the future when they manage to release an IMG of the firmware and not only ZIP files. -.-

I have enable Miracast on build.prop, for it to appear on the cast menu, it adds the option, I am able to find my TV, but when I connect to it, I receive a Force Close on the settings app, and the TV appears as black, or an static image of my phone homescreen, opening the settings app again would force close another time.. Is there any workaround for it?
I can confirm this. Miracast is not working on 7.0 (NPD90G).
UP
Really?
Thanks for the heads up. I had to root my 5X just to enable it (to change build.prop). And haven't allowed any updates since. I'd love to try Nougat, but not if it just cripples things I use.
I also had to root to enable apps to be able to access USB flash drives. Anyone know if Google resolved this in Nougat?

I have Nougat installed and I try to connect to my microsoft wireless display adapter v2. I find it in the cast menu, but if I hit connect, the display adapter says connecting on the TV, but it is never successful.
Though I have to mention, that my adapter is pretty new and I never tried with Android 6, maybe it didn't work there either.
Greetings,
liebero
P.S: Did anyone successfully connect the microsoft wireless display adapter v2 with Android 6? Then I try switching back.
I'm on Android 7.0 NBD90W and the persist.debug.wfd.enable=1 fix doesn't work anymore. I've tried it on 2 LG smart TVs already.
I can confirm that Miracast to Microsoft display adaptor works on marshmallow. I have upgraded to nougat and it didn't work so I downgraded to marshmallow and plan to stay on marshmallow till I get a new phone. Probably going to go with a windows phone or an unlocked LG/Samsung. Seems Google no longer cares to offer Miracast so I'm hoping some of the other phone manufactures will include it.
Yes Mirracast is not working on Nougart but does work on Marshmellow
I can confirm that Miracast DOES NOT work on Nougat. This is so frustrating. I had to downgrade to Marshmallow Miracast is flawless on M. I have tried every ROM under the sun with the same results. Miracast FAILS to display with Nexus 6 and Nougat.

Hey there,
is this an Nexus 5X problem only? I'm using a OnePlus 3T with Android 7.0 and had also trouble connecting to my Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter plugged into my car radio. It always tried to connect while showing "Connecting..." but then just stopped. Somehow I managed to establish the connection, the problem is I don't know how.
I tried multiple things:
- Connecting from while Airplane Mode ist active
- Connecting while being connected via Bluetooth
- Switching to 2,4GHz WiFi only
None of those settings seemed to work so I switched them all back.
The day it finally worked I did the following:
- I was in the car with a friend who helped me out with trying to connect the device. About 30 connection tries after with multiple different settings (see above) were unsuccessful.
- I've been at his place about 2 hours, doing nothing special on the phone.
- When I got in the car afterwards, my OnePlus 3T could not find the wireless display adapter.
- After I stopped the engine (which does NOT turn off/reset the adapter) the phone could find the Miracast stick and the connection worked.
The last time the connection was successful before this point (I had to reset my device for rooting purposes) the connection always worked, after it was established the first time.
Yes, confirmed. Miracast is not working on Nougat. On Marshmallow it's working just fine.
Confirm, miracast wont work on Android 7. But also got weird acting. Its casting itself to neighbors TVs without me turning cast on. That is loose of privacy And security, i also seen the content What my neighbors whatching on theirs YouTube TV. How to fix issue, do anyone face same problem?
Its working on LineageOS, but yes doesn't work on nougart
Fixed mine just now. In addition to the previous build prop fix, remove the pound from sdm.debug.downscale_external=1

Same result for me. Works fine on lineage. I'm preferring stock lollipop with some nice launcher, wallpapers and modes to enhance performance. Everything just works
I just received it today went through the initial setup and restarted it, I am now getting the Connecting to Google...message for 1 hour. I have tired using LAN and Wireless resetting several times and no success.
Now the bad news is, no way to get into fastboot on this device using the hold the power button down, since the new version doesn't have a micro-usb port nor a power button.

to get into fastboot you have to use the usb port farthest away from hdmi port. with usb 3 male to male cable.

I have a USB-A to USB-C Cable. I tried it in both ports, but still can't figure out how to get into fastboot without a power button. When I connect to PC, I am not prompted for drivers.

as i stated above, l haven't been able to get past the Connecting to Google message, which is the reason i am trying to reset the unit via bootmenu/fastboot.
I purchased two units and the other one is working fine, but the remote is no longer fast scrolling after it did a firmware update(another words when i try to scroll through my apps list on the main screen I have to keep pressing the right part of the remote repeatedly instead of holding it down. it also highlights the current position in green, it didn't do this before the update.
I get it today.

Do you have another Android Phablet? Yeah I guess someone had to throw it out there. 'Cause it sounds to me like its (i.e. the Shield), is waiting on some 2FA from a Phablet, PC, Note/Net-book to port your otherwise current Google Account over to the Shield.
So barring the rest of it. Do you even have a Google Account? Again I can only assume that some People have a more fruity lifestyle than others. So please don't take to much offence at this.
'Cause on just on the off chance that you don't.... This will almost certainly be your problem. I can't really, say that I have fully as such exhausted every option in that setup mode. As it was clearly, setup to be paired though a Phablet. Which I have, and am using to post this very Message. So it's a bit of a non starter, for me.

I did use my Nexus 6P to set up the Nvidia Shield. It completed, told me I had a firmware update at which point I clicked the install and restart button. Update installed and restarted again, at which point I got the Connecting to Google.. message.
I just managed to fix it! I decided to change the language (since that was one of the few things I could do.) It gave me a weird message, and proceeded with the startup. I have to figure out how to change the language back to English, but once I did it is working normal.
