Hey, what's up everyone?
Today I embarked on externalizing the power button on my Nexus 7, That's the easy part.
Now the hard.
What I wanna do is use a time delay or pulse to complete the ground connection to turn the screen on When power is applied. (To what I'm assuming is a time delay relay/pulse relay.)
The part I'm confusing myself on is how to do this. I basically need to know what that thing is.
It would sit between the two ground wires from the tab.
When power is applied to unknown item.
It connects the grounds for a millisecond and then release.
Resulting in screen on.
Any help is appreciated thanks alot
This $1.50 Time Relay Module will do the job, but instead of "externalizing the power button" why not leave your N7 intact and interrupt its power supply?

Thank you very much.
It's a hardwire install. No battery constantly on.
It's in the early stage, so externalizing the power button may not need to be done.
Just getting the research ahead of time.
I'm not really sure if the external powered hub can wake it up, When the screen is off. Or if the USB port will act the same anymore.
The hardwire is connected to the battery board. So the USB port may function as normal. If it does then wake on plug or activity at the USB port wake up is the best outcome.
If functionality is lost at the port a secondary trigger such as
simulated power button
Or wake on Bluetooth activity
Maybe my only routes.
I'm completely open to any ideas and suggestions anyone may have.
"Wake on plug" will work regardless of USB data status or type of power source. I'd cut the [+] wire of a USB cable and splice Time Relay Module there.

The battery board is integrated with a Lipo. Did you remove the Lipo and connect a power supply to ex-Lipo's terminals? If so, what voltage did you apply and is it working reliably?

We did the exact same mod.
Your bcb looks a little different though.
I too removed the board from the lipo and soldered to the Positive and negative.
I then ran from the ground to the first black wire at the connector and tied in.
I'm using a 12v downstep to 5v 3a to power the nexus.
If the USB port works regardless.
I will not need the relay module. The external powered hub will trigger screen on. (If I'm reading you correctly)
Currently on the bench it has ran flawlessly. Android doesn't seem to mind or notice that it's hardwired or that it's running continuously. Android reads out 100% battery

Yes the hub will trigger screen on but I thought you need an interface to another, controlling device. I suppose you will simply power up the hub to initiate screen on.

That is correct. I was gaining research knowledge, to hopefully get ahead of the game. Incase the port did not act the same after removing the battery. The project comes home tomorrow, Where my real test can begin.
Solved!! If anyone would like to use my way. Don't hesitate to ask.

I charge my EVO off of my laptop at work and I have noticed that periodically it will wake up and the little lightning bolt indicating that it is charging disappears. The phone will go back to sleep for about 60 seconds then wake back up and the charging icon will re-appear. Is this normal?
Check your charging cable. Have you dropped your phone while it was plugged in causing it to become unplugged? That happened to mine and now the terminals aren't stiff (yeah yeah that's what she said haha), so it will only charge if the plug is at an angle that causes the terminals to make contact with the upper portion of the slot.
If so, I haven't found any way to resolve that.
If not, can you provide some more details? Will it charge if it's plugged into the wall?

Charges fine when plugged into the wall. Phone have never been dropped. When I plug the USB cable in, I get the option for Charge Only, Disk Drive, etc and choose charge only. It will charge for a long while, then the screen will wake up and the charging icon will be gone, though the icon showing that the phone is connected via USB is still present. The phone will go to sleep that way then wake back up with the charging icon present again. It's very odd.
My phone has started doing something very similar only it is connecting as Disk Drive when I select Charge Only. When it does this, I have to switch it to Disk Drive, then back to Charge Only. Sometimes while its just sitting there charging, it disconnects (like yours is doing) and reconnects to Disk Drive again while Charge Only is selected. I have to repeat the steps above and its an endless cycle.
this could very well be an issue with your laptops USB chip/circuits and/or power profile.
Often times, your computer will try to power down unused components.
Depending on your laptops usb, windows and/or bios may be powering down the usb at which point your phone wakes up, attempts to reconnect (waking your laptops usb up), then starts charging again.
You might try going to your device manager > usb controllers > usb hubs > power management tab > uncheck 'allow computer to turn off this device to save power'.
I agree with it being the power save on the USB ports. You will need to uncheck the "allow computer to turn off this device to save power" for each USB port. Keep in mind on newer desktops and laptops, that there can be eight or more of the selections available for you to uncheck.

I found out that the default setting for doubleTwist media player is to make it automatically set as a disk drive upon usb connection. This setting can be changed.
I have an rooted "unrevoked 3.21" Incredible with the stock OTA 2.2 Froyo update on my phone. I haven't really done too much to tweak it but I did install ROMmanager and through there installed the optical trackpad wake function.
I knew going into it that people said that the wake function would be sporadic at best which seems to be my general observation. My questions is how come when my phone is either plugged into a wall charger or to the PC that the optical trackpad wake feature works every single time 100% on the first click like it was actually designed for this purpose but as soon as it is unplugged it will only work occasionally at best and sometimes requires me to hold the button down for nearly 8-9 seconds before it will actually wake?
I mean if it will wake every single time consistently when the phone is plugged into a charging source there has to be some reason or way to get it to function the same way when it is not plugged in. Right? There must be something about the phone being plugged into a charging source that is allowing the optical trackpad button to work every single time 100% consistently. I'm not a developer by any means but does anyone have any idea what would allow this to work perfectly when charging but then sporadically when unplugged and do you think there is any way to replicate this or fool the trackpad button to thinking it is always plugged in charging to get a consistent wake function out of the trackpad whether it is plugged in or not plugged in?
I don't expect this thread to go anywhere but if it does, thank you very much in advance...
Bumb....Please...
Well if it works 100% when plugged in then I would guess its a battery saving thing for it to not work

Yeah it's freakin weird. Works every single time when it is plugged in to a charging source. There has to be a way to tell the optical trackpad that it is plugged in when it is not plugged in.
I have observed this as well. This must have to do with how the screen off mode operates under battery power vs on external power source. When on battery only power, some functions are probably checked for incoming commands at longer intervals. These same functions must be awake all the time under external power. So the solution would be to embed the trackpad to wake commands under the module which is on always whether under battery or external power.
Just my guess.

That is exactly what I am thinking is going on here. For some reason when the phone is plugged into a charging source it allows the trackpad to wake instantly. When the phone is on internal battery power only there must be some sort of battery saving power function for the trackpad possibly to save battery power if there were any unintentional presses of the trackpad so that way no battery would be wasted while the phone is unplugged from a charger. Like I initially said I am no developer but how would I go about finding a way to attach the trackpad wake feature to that external power source command feature and tell the trackpad that it is always plugged into a charging source even though it is running on battery power only?
Is there a specific developer that would be best at this or somewhere particular that I could direct my question/theory to? Thanks again for the responses guys...
Id imagine if the optical trackpad were on at all times it would be registering the swipes up against our pant pockets, and that might use some unintentional battery juice.
Its just the nature of it. I doubt you could turn on the button pressing function without enabling the swipe actions as well.

I think for what it's worth I would prefer to take my chance with a few unintentional swipes in my pocket if the phone would wake up consistently by pressing the optical trackpad button. That is definitely something I hadn't really thought about though and it make sense but I just hate the consistency issues.
Well if you swipe it, it doesn't do anything while the phone's screen is off, so I don't think it is registering the swipes at all, so technically enabling it should work. And we can always test to see if the swipes do waste the battery.
Try holding down the button until it wakes up, sometimes it requires a second or 2 to register (makes the failure rate close to 0)
Ive been trying to get an Wireless Xbox 360 controller working on my GNex. If i plug in the wireless receiver it stays off unless i hold the sync, but turns off after a few seconds. One time i rebooted with it plugged in and i was able to navigate the home screen for a bit then it died. I tried plugging it into a powered USB Hub and it worked great and I was able to play several levels of Dead Trigger with no issues.
It seems like the usb port isn't putting out enough power for this.
HDMI over MHL also flickers and cuts out frequently, is this also do to some weird power fluctuation? I always turn off LTE before i use MHL as i read that that interfere but that doesn't fix it.
Anyone know about these two problems? Are they related as i suspect? Is my device just defective?
Hey guys, have a friends Galaxy tab 3 (7 inch, SM-T210) which simply won't power on.
Firstly, the device came to me because it was completely dead. He is using an Apple charger (5v 1A) which I believe isn't the right output.
After leaving it plugged into the Apple wall charger for more than a full day, it will power on the display and go into a boot loop (displays Samsung logo for about 10secs then reboots).
It never gets to a point where it shows the battery charging icon.
If I do anything to it (hold power button, power+home+volume up, power+home+volume down) while it is in this reboot loop, it simply dies again and needs the full (more than) a day charge again before powering on the display.
It won't go into recovery or download mode.
The longest I have left it charging thus far is about 2.5 days and still the same problems.
I have tried disconnecting the battery connector multiple times also (left disconnected for up to 5 minutes) - this just causes me to have to start the whole charging process again.
Any ideas? I'm currently leaving it plugged into my PC (rear powered USB port) in the hope that it will charge properly - or at least detect a connection to the PC when it enters the bootloop (maybe try ADB).
@fubofo
I know it is difficult.
A) Regards the Power Adapter.
Listen PC USB port should not be used as a charging station. You always run the chance to burn your PC!
In the other hand PC USB is designed to produce 5V but only 0.5 A.
We should always used the Power adapter that came as original accessory. I own a TAB3 10 wifi. Due to our 10" big screen our OEM adapter is 5V 2A. But in your case 5V 1A is fine. It just charges slower.
B) The most used solution is get in to Download Mode and Install Original Stock software. The other possible solution is to get into Recovery Mode and do a Wipe of Cache and Dalvik and if possible a Factory Reset.
I know you said: "It won't go into recovery or download mode." But there is no other way.
In my cases Tab3 10 Wifi I can not get the battery out. But since you are saying that you can, I will suggest you unplug the battery for a minute. Hoping that when you reconnect it it would not turn on by it self:
1) Turn your PC On.
2) Start Odin3.07 and prepare to install your Original Stock ROM.
3) Connect the USB Cable to PC but NOT to TAB. As you see we only want to be ready to install Stock Rom is everything goes OK.
4) Disconnect the Battery on Tab, (If not possible Press Power for 6-8seconds and release, If it reboots Press Power for 6-8seconds and release. Keep trying until you see it stop doing the loop with Samsung logo. We are trying to ensure is in OFF and that it does not reboot)
Note: Please understand that if you keep pressing [Power] or any other sequence of buttons longer that 8 seconds it just loop once and nothing happens. You need to release the [Power] button.
5) Wait a minute disconnected. (OFF)
6) Reconnect Battery. This is where I an hoping that the Tab will not Turn On by itself! I do not know I never disconnect my battery.
7) Be prepare to Hook the USB cable from PC. Now Press ONLY [Volume Down] and Hook USB cable at the same time. It is been said that when we press Just [Volume Down] from OFF the battery registers are reset and the Battery Icon comes up in your screen!! At least this behavior work in TAB3 10 Wifi. I am not sure in yours.
If you see I am just trying to get away from the "Loop on Reboot" situation. And I believe it your best chance to ensure is in charging state. If you like you can leave it charging for at least 1 hour with the battery logo. If the battery logo goes away and you want to check if it is still there DO NOT USE [Power] BUTTON. use the [Menu] instead. In fact in this mode you can unhook the PC USB cable and Plug your Power Adapter with I believe is twice as effective charging than the PC USB.
Now lets say that when you unplug and reconnect the battery, Tab3 instead Reboot (power on) Then what I will suggest you is to get help from some body else so that you have an extra pair of hands. The Idea is that if it power on by it self ,that you can be only in charge of Pressing Just [Volume Down] while hooking USB cable. The other person will be in charge on reconnecting the battery. I hope you get my point.
Lets continue
8) So now that you have a TAB charged you can ensure that PC is connected to USB cable and Odin is ready.
9) With the battery Icon on the screen, now you can Press [Power]+[Menu]+[Volume Down]. to get in to Download Mode. Note that In my case a TAB3 10 Wifi I do not need to press [Menu], Just Only [Power]+[Volume Down].
10) Follow any Tutorial in the use of Odin for your device. Just be sure NOT to mark "Re-Partition" unless you had received a packages that requires that. If you do not know that means it is NO repartition. Understand that re-partition without having a complete package will Brick your device. Most Odin packages have only the minimum packages so do not required re-partition. You been warned.
I hope this will help you.

@r2d23cpo thanks for this information, though there is a problem. As soon as I unplug it from the wall charger it stops the reboot loop and just does nothing.
Also....why do I need to connect it to PC via USB with Oden if we are not yet going to flash it? Would the wall charger works just as well after I connect the battery? (disconnect battery, wait 1 minute, reconnect battery, Hold Vol Down + connect charger)

I've noticed this with the Apple charger. But only with this particular model. I experienced none with the SM-T217. Other Samsung devices also charge fine with the same charger. The tab wouldn't show the battery icon at all, and the screen kept flashing. I left it plugged in for 1/2 hour and it moved up 1%. I don't believe it's the amp, 'cause the tab charged fine with a 1A Samsung or LG. You should switch to another charger first lest it damages the battery somehow.

This Tab doesn't ever get to the point of showing the charging icon. I currently have the device plugged into USB port of my server as it's powered on 24hrs. I'm happy to leave it in there for a few days to see if it charges better.
My hope is that it will at least get to the boot loop stage, and maybe show up as a connection on my server so I can fastboot it or something.

Not to belabor the point, but mine wouldn't charge at all at 500mA, which is what my regular cell charger outputs. So unless your server delivers more punch than standard USB ports on PCs, looks like you're in for a long and futile wait. Just my guess.
Hi,
I've only had my Samsung Galaxy Tab S for a few weeks. Whilst on a plane the battery went to 0%.. no problem I thought as I'd simply charge it when I got to a power source.
However, when plugged in, nothing happens. No LED light, nothing on the screen. I've plugged it into a wall socket and via USB into a PC. I have held down the power button, home and volume down for a period of time, as well as just the power button and volume down.
Has my tablet gone kaput?
Cheers,

I'd just let it charge for a while. It'll take a bit before it comes back to life if it was completely drained.
If you still don't get any response hold POWER + VOL DOWN.

I had this problem.
You'll have to pry off the back cover, remove the wire that connects the battery to the motherboard. (A battery pull, basically).
Keep it off for 30 seconds. Then plug back in.
Use ifixit for details about opening. Feel free to ask for more help.
Try this one.
1) connect the tab to PC
2) press Home, Vol Down and Power simultaneously up to a screen appears;
3) press Vol Down to cancel and reboot the tablet.
John.
Now there are a few things you can try...
First check your charging port for any dust or any foreign particle. There has to be a small gap between the base of the charging port, and the small slab above it. Carefully, using a board pin, try and push that slab a bit up, don't apply too much pressure, just enough to make it move slightly!
This can happen sometimes if you drop your phone.
Next, make sure your charger, and the USB cable are working fine.
Also tell me if you have any Xposed module for your battery installed on your phone!

Thanks so much for that.
This morning, I plugged my tablet in to AC charge before leaving for the day -- battery was at ~30% and all was well. This evening, I came home and the tab was stuck at a weird Samsung logo -- not the normal boot with colored ovals, but the logo surrounded by a moving star field, never seen before, and could not get the tab to respond, turn off, do anything. Tried many wacky suggestions found on the intertubes to stop/start it, including holding power plus touching the screen for > 30 seconds, none of which worked. Never would have thought your suggestion for download mode would work, but it did on the very first try.
I'd like to know how the tab got into that state, and what that star field logo is about. But at least it's working again, for now.
Thank you.
That's the normal lollipop boot screen.
