Hey I've had the HTC Desire for around 2 weeks now and its been awesome, well until these last couple of days. The phone for some reason keeps on rebooting on its own randomly and about 10 minutes ago it shutdown and would not power back on :S. I had to remove the battery, place it back and then it powered up (after pressing the power button).
I have not rooted the desire ... anyone know of any apps which may be causing this issue? or Any solutions for this issue?
Thanks
there are too many apps to mention which could be doing this to compatibility issues
you tell us, what apps have you installed? and more importantly which apps have you installed recently?
is your desire still rebooting now that you've taken the battery out and put it back in? or is it working now?
Have a look at this thread ?

i am familiar with that thread
although he didn't mention it was an internet/apn issue
i don't suppose you've installed juice defender?
so recently installed apps are:
Dropbox
Spark
Light Racer 3D Basic
HTC_IME mod (Atari version of the keyboard)
AndAppStore
Astro File Manager
AppInstaller
AppMonster
BatteryTimeLite
Beautiful Silence Widgets
Gigbox
JuicePlotter, JuiceDefender and Ultimate Juice
Flashlight
Soccer Livescores
PicSay
Calorie Counter
Advanced Task killer
Fring
Those are the apps i've installed since may 1st.
It's working atm but it has rebooted after i have removed the battery in the las couple of days. Its the first time it wouldn't boot back. Thanks

on another thread the issue was caused by juice defender changing the apn and then not changing it back but this was because it was uninstalled, oddly enough it was this causing reboot cycles on the desire
with advanced task killer it is very likely that juice defender changed the apn and then before it could change it back was killed by a.t.k
would recommend uninstalling atk anyway as it has been proven to cause problems. try this and then see if the problem persists.
Alright i've uninstalled ATK. Hope this fixes the issue (i'll post up an update on the situation tomorrow). Any other task manager apps you would recommend or just not use one?

i just wouldn't use one, this has been explained in more detail but i'll try to explain
android manages memory more efficiently, if an application is launched, it will stay in memory until the memory is needed for something else, then android will close this application and give the memory to the new one.
if say for example you force close the browser, it could have been linked to google maps, the news widget, friend stream etc, and once the browser is closed by the task killer, the other applications will re-open it in order to complete what they are doing, this will drain a large amount of battery.
correct me if i'm wrong
keep us updated if it doesn't work then try the fixes i posted on the other thread posted above

Yea i have read about that a few times and i should know better hehe. Was trying to save on battery life but juice defender and ultimate juice should be more efficient in that respect. I will post an update tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully its a positive update
Right so the desire hasn't rebooted on me since installing advanced task manager (not that I've noticed anyway). The only thing that happens is that it froze up on me once and I needed to remove the battery for it to reboot... But other than that no other issues so maybe it was atk doing the damage.
Sent from my HTC Desire just for good measure
right so it was fine but a couple of hours after posting the update it reboot itself and again this morning... seems like its going to have to be a hard reset... any last tips that might help before i so this?
I read the thread that was posted earlier but that seems to be an error with hanging up calls and apn issues. I don't use apn and it does if randomly but thanks for trying to help.

mine has been rebooting a lot, I've narrowed it down to the thing overheating, phoned HTC and they suggest I get it swapped. Does yours reboot more often when it is warm? eg. gps&wifi on, or when its on charge?
yea it seems too. even while playing games.
I'll send HTC an email and see is they reccomend I do the same.

I installed Taskiller last night, then HTC Desire started playing up, the screen froze, I couldn't do anything or even switch off using power button. I ended up taking the battery out to reset it. On firing up it just sorta went into a loop rebooting on reaching the homepage. After a few attempts I manage to get Appremover working, I removed taskiller and phone is now behaving itself again.
Obvious to me what the culprit was.
It was a worrying few moments as the phone is only a week old.

yep Ive stopped using task killers. they seem to be causing phones to misbehave. android's native memory management seems to work well anyways so no need for any kind of task killer/management app.

Rigjt, so after emailing HTC and them helping me I find that the issue was being caused by a third party app. Took me the best part of 2 hours but I finally found the culprit.
Right so the app causing the problem for me was beautiful silence widgets, which is a shame as they are great widgets (emailed the developer so they might release a fix for it).
The testing process was making a list of all the apps I had installed on the my desire. Then installing a few at a time, I would reboot the phone into safe mode. Which ever app causes it to reboot almost instantly I guess was causing the issue.
Finally my desire seems to be functioning properly. Fingers crossed that I don't jynx it.

mine reboots when using gprs/Wifi everything else its fine
Problem is when it does reboot it gets to the main screen and reboots again unless im quick enough to get to settings and deactivate gprs/Wifi
Uninstalled advanced task killer now have used gprs for a small amount of time since and no reboots so hopefully its fixed
Mine used to reboot itself while using 3g or WiFi, but the problem seems to have gone (hopefully) after I disabled the Background Data in the sync settings. Looks like it's some application trying to update itself like weather widget or something... Now it's just a process of elimination I guess...

Good luck and I hope you don't have too many third party apps. It's a pain but its worth it in the end to have your phone working properly.
If you have any task killers I recommend staring with does. They seem to cause a lot of issues on the desire.

Phone: HTC Desire HD
Android: 2.3.3
HTC Sense: 2.1
Root: No
Before I updated my phone to Android 2.3 the games on my phone worked like they should. Before I updated the version, I did a factory reset so I could change the Google account on the phone ( I made a new one due to a breach into my old one by !^!^!^! Apple fans from China ) and deleted everything so the phone will be clean for the update. After the update I installed only the games I wanted to play.
Now, before the format and update the games did not allow the phone to sleep while playing ( like they should and it is stated they override it ), but now the phone goes to sleep in the middle of the game. For instance: NFS Shift. you don't touch the screen because you use the gyro. The first time it didn't sleep, now it does. The same thing with Air Attack.
I checked the settings of both the games and the phone, nothing came up.
What to do and how to fix this?
Thank you in advance for any help.
As much as I didn't want to...
I had to BUMP this because it is annoying and frustrating that the phone is going into sleep mode.

use 'keepscreen' or 'screen on' from market. you can specify apps then screen won't turn off.
Can a mod close this thread? It is no longer needed by anyone.

Hi everyone!
I have problem with G sensor(accelerometer) and camera. After playing games with accelerometer its freezing, Camera not available no screen rotation works. Helps only phone reboot.
Tried kill camera process, then run again, cleared cash, but no effect.
Bought phone in store with Irish Vodafone firmware, made factory phone reset and update trough the SEUS, problem still stayed. Yesterday change firmware to UK Generic, upgraded to V. 2.3.3 - no effect, made again phone factory reset and settings... problem still staid.
I don't know what else to try or better bring phone back to shop for servicing (Warranty I have)
Thanks a lot..

does the back of your phone (especially near the camera) gets hot after playing the games?
Off topic, the back of my phone (near to the caméra ) gets hot after using the phone ( lets say, gaming, music etc) for around 10-15 minutes. Is it bad ?

getting hot near to camera is common as processor is located there. if you using app that using lot of proc utility like 3d gaming then your proc will be hot.

I have a problem arc by the way
But i found my solution.
My problem was with 3d games. I couldnt play any 3d game more then 5-10 min. My arc gets so so hot and if game doesnt crash, just my rotation sensors and cam stops working till a restart. It was really annoying. I have searched all over internet and found a few users with my getting too hot problem and stoping sensors thing.
Well i beat that sh*t with setCpu overclock app. I set it Performance settings and downclock my cpu to 768 mhz.
No Restarts now!! Finally i can play need for speed without any crash( which im not a fan of this useless game with nice graphics)
And it doesnt get that hot. No sensor or cam crash! I can play samurai game and all other gameloft games too!!! Again no crash and not that hot as before!
Awesome.

HELLO EVERYONE
I'm having issue regarding the music chopping/skipping while listening from the headphones.
please help!!
Are you on .126 Rom? Because on there it was caused by some beats profiles, I would try disabling beats for a while and see.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I was also had this issue when I was on the 1.26 rom playing local stored music via the inbuilt player, but it was more a a small pause. As I was in a location where the data to the phone kept changing, EG 3G, E, H, I was able to determine the pause occurred when the phone changed it's data transfer type. I am no longer in that enviroment so I can not test the newer roms.
I M on 1.28 sense version, if you meant this ..sorry I'm new to all these terms Rom n all.
Kind of same here
Hi,
Not sure if it is the same problem, but I also have issues with the music chopping and clicking.
I noticed it is happening everytime the data connection changes indeed (loss of 3G in the sub, siwtch to wifi, etc...)
I asked HTC support about it but still no answer.
Will try tomorrow with Beats off.
I am using a european version (tegra) and the latest factory rom (1.29.401.11).
Can't wait for the, to release a correction, it is really annoying.
I'm suffering with a similar issue. Latest software.
Same issue here
I'm having the same problem, on version 1.29.161.13
Has only recently started doing it, where audio will skip/click with Beats Profile on OR with the HTC Sound Enhancer on. Switching these off resolves the issue. This happens when using stock music player or watching video. Switching to airplane mode makes no difference.
The fact it has only recently started doing it leads me to think it must be fixable... any ideas?!
Are you listening to your music over Bluetooth headphones/earphones?
i take it a reboot doesn't fix it?
Music skips/chopping on HTC ONE X
i am also having a same problem it also do the same thing in video playing also while streaming youtube video or play any HD video :crying: plzz help i came from galaxy s2 and hating this.....
When you stream from YouTube press pause wait about 10 secs, then play, the cracks and pops should be reduced. To eliminate them allow the vid to completely load before playing. I think is a flash problem, bound to be fixed in the next update.

I've been listening over the stock headphones, tried it this evening with my Pioneers and same issue.
Sometimes when I go to sound enhancer in the video player settings the list comes up blank with no options, and I wonder if that's related to the issue. It seems like the software doesn't realise that the Beats profile is on, so it keeps trying to turn it on again, which causes the clicks and skipping.
I tried turning it on and off through the notification bar, and then through the music player (which has more options than the video player) and then returning to the video player which seemed to resolve it until I exited and went back in later...

The issue happens no matter the source, so it's not Flash.

this is 99% not hardware. i'm so tempted to say 100% but then if it is hardware i'd be wrong
this is software. have you tried using an alternative app to play the music? such as poweramp?

I think it's software, but not the app itself. It's the same with Spotify, so i'd be included to think it's a driver of some sort, or something Sense is doing.
Anyone tried a custom ROM? I'm using MaXimus but haven't re-tested the audio since flashing. That's still got Sense, though, so probably not the best example.
Definitely driver. This problem crept up on ne After I flashed viper x. So everything I go into underground parking, my music starts to get choppy

hi,
i have a weird(for me atleast) issue, full screen touch is working ok except the bottom Home Menu Back Search button touch
sometime it suddenly started working and again stopped. i do a factory reset and it was working fine like for 15 days and yesterday it was connected to PC for charging and when i pull it from Pc the bottom 4 buttons wasnt working.
was using SuperCharge Option of mobogenie .... dont know if its the issue or what ..
now thing is i give it to a repair shop and they check and found nothing so they are like we need to change the sensor. any help ....
thanks
If you are rooted.
Try flashing a new rom or else, flash you rom once again.
When, rooted after you change anyther in /system, even a factory reset would not help.

sounds more like digitzer. You can buy the parts on ebay and there is a very good youtube video to follow. I replaced the LCD on my G2 and it took 1.5hrs (youtube video was ~30min).
Thanks bradley_e_smith, and when i was reading the email about your comment all 4 buttons started working and i installed "LockScreen Free" so all the important apps could be on lock screen for easy access and after installing and setting up lock screen button was dead again
