I have an urgent problem. Since morning today Messenger and Facebook (applications) started to constantly consume 40% CPU load, ie the battery is constantly depleating. If i look through gsam battery monitor, can see that the process i facebook.ocra / katana is constantly on. Yet I observed such a bug both on the phone and on the tablet. Its both the 6th android. I tried to reinstall, reboot, wipe cache / cache art - nothing. Plz help if somebody has faced this problem.
it happen to me too. But i'm using OOS 4.0.1

the fb app f*ucks up from time to time and the only solution is to uninstall. Use some of the suggestions mentioned before. They have all the features, even messages. If you use chrome you can get notifications also.
Happened to me as well starting yesterday. Apparently is not only happening to people using 3.2.8, users on 4.0.1 are experiencing it also. It's also affecting users on other phone models. So definitely something wrong with the FB app. I un-installed the app and added a home screen shortcut to the web version of FB, like what was suggested by the other guys.
Maybe you need to configure some settings in the app.
I'm on validus using 4.0.1 fw and modem and got this problem this morning. It also caused the heating of the phone.
Got rid of both apps.
Happened to me today.
Facebook and messenger started sucking the battery in the morning, making my phone lag as hell. Also drained the battery from full down to 5% in around 8 hours. Tried restarting my phone during the day. Even with any internet connection off it was still running and autostarting.
Sultan's CM13
Same thing happened to me as of this morning, Freedom OS 3.2.8 with EK Kernel. It only started this morning
1 - Close your FB account
2 - Remove FB application
3 - Back to a real social life
4 - Done
I think may be it will help for some people

I noticed this with dk28 where my snsservice would keep saying restarting after about an hour when my phone is booted and doesn't have a running time. I don't know if this is causing some issues because the phone then say that I can't edit my contacts.

I gather you are referring to Facebook SNS? This started after Facebook made changes to their application and introduced their own sync process. Those changes did something that conflicts with Google's integration with Facebook.
Google and Facebook are going at it over the sync process within Android.

There is another thread a few pages back in this sub forum that discusses possible work arounds. Nothing confirmed to resolve the constant prompts as of yet.
I'm having this issue too, I don't use Facebook and I can't find anything on any of the forums about this issue. No problems other than SNSSERVICE RESTARTING... continuously in running services. I push to stop it and it goes away, but I haven't noticed any other problems, even after I close it. I do notice that my battery lasts longer when I kill it. What EXACTLY does SNSService do? I've heard several different comments that it is for Facebook, its for Security (? if so, what security?), etc... and what would be causing it to go into restart. I do toggle off 3G from Power Control Plus (and GPS and Auto Sync) when I'm at work or other times when I have 1 or 2 signal bars (to save battery), but when I've had this happen, I try reconnecting all those, and it does not save the snsservice from going into a restart loop.

I have the EXACT same problem, on EB13 Syndicate ROM.
One thing I know for sure is snsservice fetches email syncs at the selected intervals for the stock email app, because I haven't been getting any emails since the problem started. My girlfriend has the Samsung Fascinate (sister phone) and she has the EXACT same problem. Anyone else know?
I found a fix for this...I'll bet if you have this problem you don't have a Facebook nor Twitter account and thus, have removed the "Feeds & Updates" widget from your screens. If you DON'T force close the SNSService, but just put the Feeds & Updates Widget back on an unused screen somewhere it will immediately stop the snsservice from restarting. I've then deleted the widget from my screen and was good for about 2 weeks, then it started doing it again (after the facebook app got an update) so I just left the widget up now.

I don't know, for sure it doesn't help it. It would be nice if somebody shed some light on this bug.
My fix is to just delete the two SNS apk's, and use the respective apps built in sync feature.

what are the 2 apks? are they safe to delete even if I'm using fb (Facebook)? I've notice that when snsservice is restarting and if I kill it, it will stop notifications on fb.

Excuse me...you are right, it's a workaround, like the airplane toggle and the upside down compass calibrate, but hey I hope folks can use it until it does get fixed, which, I think people with the issue would appreciate knowing.

To remove the stock, built in SNS features, you can remove the following files:
Snsaccount.apk
Snsproviders.apk
About affecting the fb app, I'm not sure. I just started using the fb app so I can't say with certainty. I am going to test and see if deleting either or both apk files stop notifications in the fb app. Based on what you said, sounds like it might.

I'm pretty sure you NEED those apks if you ARE using Facebook. You just need to put the Feeds and Updates Widget back on one of your unused screens.
No, if you're using the Facebook app that you download from the market, you don't need either of those apks.
Just tested notification functionality like I mentioned in my last post, and I am getting them all. Those apks are deleted on my phone.
You'd need to keep those apks if you want the Twitter and Facebook functionality that comes built in on a stock phone.

Does deleting those two apks not affect Latitude updates? I know their separate services but it seems as if Latitude doesn't automatically update correctly when I remove either snsservice or drmprovider.

yesterday i got the little F icon in my task bar telling me i lost connection to facebook. since then i have not been able to log in to the sync account. i can use the FB app no problem. anyone else?
edit: wtf after trying 10 times i post this and was able to log in right away. the power of whining on the internet
edit 2: still havign sync issues with fb. pain in the ass
I had the same issues. Must be on Facebook's end.
Some months ago FB's app would absolutely not give me notifications when I opened the app, no matter what I did. The error was all on their end of things. Push notifications have never worked anyway, and since auto-updating is a battery drain I just decided to turn it all off. I still marvel at how they can have such a poor official Android app, and how any improvements to it are so small and infrequent. Yet their mobile website is not nearly as bad, and now it's of course much more possible to use the full site on a decent mobile browser.
I've had the same problem for a long time too.
On another note, does anyone know why the Nexus S gets fb comment notifications and the Epic doesn't?
Yeah me too. I was reading that fb sync is gone in gb. Is that true?
"The greatest respect you can earn is self respect" Louie Simmons
Just noticed this today, but same thing... sync problem since 6/3. Contacts are still sync'ing (through SNS, not the app... I don't have the app installed), it's the calendar sync that is not working.

Themed version of what? Huh?
necro bump cause im having the same issue. Ideas?
Hi all,
I have being searching for hours but I have not yet found my particular problem. Currently I am using the Juggernaut 5.0 Rom / Bullet v2-9b Kernnel.
I use the stock email app for all my emails and lately I have being experiencing an issue that never happened before with the social hub preventing the phone from going to sleep. It is in fact keeping the phone awake the entire time the phone is idle.
I have done some testing of my own, and realized that the problem is mostly triggered after rebooting the phone. On Better Battery Stats Partial Wakelocks - Since unplugged, I have com.seven.Z7.WakeLock.Alarms and underneath is says com.seven.Z7.Social Hub. This wakelock was awake 100%.
I went to sleep with the phone fully charged, rebooted it, and left it idled. When I woke up 7 hours later, I found the battery at 42%.
Could anyone please explain why the social hub is staying awake after a reboot?
What can I do to prevent this from happening?
Does it have anything to do with the Rom or Kernnel?
Thanks!
If you don't want it you can always remove it with tb

I tried freezing it with TB but then the stock email app didn't work. I use the stock email app as my main email client for my personal and business emails.
On the attached image I have the list of Samsung apps I have frozen.
However, freezing Social Hub 7.52.10101 (icon-envelope/blue S), it does not let the stock mail app function.

Unfortunatly social hub is connected with stock email. when you freeze that email will get freeze too. Do you really want the social hub? just curious

Well, I really like using the stock email app. However, I hate the fact that com.seven.Z7.WakeLock.Alarms | com.seven.Z7.Social Hub stay awake after every reboot. I have to manually stop it everytime. If I forget, it will keep the phone awake the entire time.
Is there anything else I can possibly do to prevent the wakelock com.seven.Z7.WakeLock.Alarms | com.seven.Z7.Social Hub from auto starting and/or staying awake after each reboot?
Uninstall it, I did and my corp email and pop3 still work.
AP Mobile is another one I uninstalled... and buddy now... and a bunch more.

Hello guys,
I recently bought an LG G3 D855 32GB.
I have several problems with the facebook application.
When i try to check in to a place through the facebook application the app crashes and i think that the system framework restarts too.
Facebook opens up again and puts me to the home screen.I ve tried several facebook versions and it does the same with all of them.
Whats going on?Anyone has any idea?
Thanks in adv.

no i dont think its because of that.i see that the SUI restarts somehow. It might be because of the incompatibility of the facebook application to the screen resolution of the G3??i really dont have a clue about whats going on.ive read several posts about chromecast crashes on several forums.
Any ideas?
I have the same problem when in ART mode. Revert back to default mode fix the issue.

hi guys! glad to have found this thread.
how are your phones so far?
I have a prob with mine.. it's very weird.
idk if you're using fb messenger... but i can't save images from chat when i'm on it. when I long press on the image and press save image, the little gray popup that's supposed to come up and say "image saved" doesn't appear. tried reinstalling the messenger app, still no go, so i completely uninstalled it.
and then what I did was i also uninstalled any updates from my built-in fb app and then went back to the factory version. I could then save images from chat and they appeared in my gallery under the album named "messenger." so then, I updated the fb app (again--I could still save photos from chat at this point).. so I thought it was all good.
I went back to the play store and reinstalled fb messenger, but then I couldn't save pics again! my friend who also has an m8 could save pics using her fb messenger app (with the fb built-in app not updated since she bought it).... this is just one annoying bug!
has anyone here had this prob? or is it just me. my m8 isn't rooted, no nothing. i reset my phone to factory version and wiped out even the data on my sd card, TWICE. but still the same issue. is it the fb messenger app or is it my phone?

The custom ROMS wont help you in this, the Messenger app is the problem.
