Hello,
On my old smartphones some cpu cores go offline when system is idling.
Is it normal that the snapdragon 820 does not turn off the big CPUs?

Wow what a amazing discovery.. I didn't notice that since I got a op3.. That just shocking man.. Now what?Is my phone going to explode? Is my battery going to die? Is my phone going to dance?
820 doesnt have hotplugging. Period.

Cmon man be gentle on the guy. He probably does not even know what hotplugging is.
To op, this is completely normal. The kernel does not have any hotplugging built in.

No-one said that this is a discovery.
I was just surprised that changing to cyanogenmod battery profile one of the Cores is going offline but the cpu itself is not hot plugging.
And a small hint for you, I am much longer here on XDA than you are. Therefore be respectful with the old men, they don't have the time to check every single new cpu architecture that's coming out. I hope your are more kindly in your real life. [emoji4]

Respect is really hard to find these days on Xda.. But the CPU should go in different 'sleep states'.

There were a few people and threads on xda investgating this sd810/820 seemingly erratic behavior awhile ago although not necessarily in op3. In my not in the least expert opinion, this is a bug but learnt to not care about. I mean what is the alternative really

You mentioned it yourself:
"I am much longer here on XDA than you are."
That is the exact reason why I replied in such way.. Being a old member you could have just searched and found answer rather than creating a thread and waiting for replies.. The question you asked has been answered in any kernel thread related to the 820..
As far time is concerned, new inventions/ architecture/andriod versions, they don't happen everyday... You could just browse xda and read tech stuff while taking a dump.. Takes only few minutes to read stuff about few months back.
On side note : You don't ask for respect.. You earn it..

Calm down boy. I did searching for this specific problem many times. My fault was not searching for the word hot plugging
Look at my created posts, you won't find many threads, where I ask something.
I found bug reports, like only 2 cores running (my phone had the same problem).
Furthermore I don't have a custom kernel. And therefore I didn't start searching every one plus 3 kernel thread.
And finally you are totally wrong.
Respect is what you have to give to everybody from the beginning, even by not knowing him.
The way you think, that's the reason why there are so many conflicts on earth.

Yeah, that's thanks to the HD2 lol
Well deserved as well. Best site for technical advice on HTC & Winmo and progressing greatly on Android front to
Would be nice to get the active count up though
This is one of the best online communities I've been to
hats off to us all i say
Couple of Questions
This is very good news but I have some questions:
- How are the XDA servers bearing up under the weight of all these members? Getting error 502-bad gateway is a routine occurrence when I log on at night in Europe (daytime in the US) and find all our American cousins logged on, hogging our servers. How dare they (lol)
- Given that this site is probably singularly responsible for a whole load of people sticking with the HTC brand, has anyone from XDA actually approached HTC for financial support and/or technical collaboration? We seem to be solving all their problems for them and keeping them in business without so much as a Corporate thank you in sight
- Moderation, with this number of members, must be an absolute nightmare. How does one nominate oneself to carry on this good work (hint hint)?

1 & 2: the 502 errors are software errors, the only system level workaround is to build an entire resilient failover system, and this will be more that just new hardware .
We (well the admins) are still working on the software issues that are causing the problems.
As for moderators, we are 60 strong, but not all active at once, some of the others have real lives to live.

Dave,
Thanks for the answers to my questions.
As for moderators leading real lives, are you telling me XDA is not the REAL world? I feel like Truman off the Truman Show. Has it all been an illusion, a figment of someone else's turgid imagination (gets his coat)?
WB
Wow!!
Yes we are huge!
I think the real interesting number is the active users one as the 2 mill sure includes a lot of one time only enter members, spammers, etc.
Very funny Mike (ROFL).

Somehow we need to get a "number of images posted by Mike" count. It must be near the 10,000 mark by now!
3 members moderating 2,206 users??? wow!

good job
that IS huge.

Hy,
I saw on the internet that someone has clocked his HTC Touch to 800mHz. But I wanna know how I can do that two! A small increase of the total mHz is also welcome. (600+mHz). I hope that someone can help me
Thanks

I second this
Greatly appreciated if someone can help.
Someone on the internet posted a screen of his Touch Pro 2 (clocked to 800mHz) nuerom.com/BlogEngine/post/2009/09/06/Touch-Pro-running-at-800MHZ.aspx
But there is no tutorial how to do it....
That link you provided is for Touch Pro (Rapahel) not for Touch pro 2 (Rhodium)
As far as I know there is no way to overclock the Rdodium processor...
(hope I´m wrong)

Some updates, Touch Pro 2 Stuff
by no2chem

On Overclocking
I still haven’t been able to identify how to control the PLL properly. I need to look into Linux/Android code, where they apparently have the Kaiser running at 528MHz just fine. Again, once I figure this out, the tool will be updated.
On The Touch Pro 2
I got the Touch Pro 2 from Sprint, finally – and can begin working on it. I’ll have a version of the battery driver with FastCharge, Temperature Override and 1% soon, I’ve already disassembled/reassembled it, it’s just awaiting my patches. I’ll probably post a review soon, but the best part of this phone is the screen. If you haven’t seen one, go and look at one. I’d say some of the major cons are the price (on Sprint), the missing tab button and the lack of a flashlight. It is definitely faster according to my reference benchmarks on stock. This will be my target device for a CE6/CE7 BSP as well now.

It's the same internal chipset (MSM7xxx series), so theoretically it should work. IIRC the OMAP overclocker works on almost all the OMAP-based phones on XDA. If anyone's interested in trying it, you can download the overclocker here.

For some odd reason, it doesn't show the 700+ MHZ Clock..
I can underclock easily though if that helps anyone with battery life.

Hopefully soon we see some tool that works with Rhodium!

Really? How much of a boost do you get? If underclocking is stable, that'd be a huge bonus. Most of my mobile tasks don't require running a full clock.
I've checked nuerom pretty regularly since September to see if there's any news, but I had no idea it worked at all on TP2. My impression was that, despite sharing a processor with TP1, this item wasn't compatible for some reason. Maybe I was just reading too much into the errors people were getting due to it being early in development.
It would be great if the TP2 can get some more mHz. Thanks for the replies. Lets hope there will be soon a app that will clock the TP2 to a higher level Would like it!
So keep us updated if you've heard something or if you need someone to test a app

Sami

So, is it possible that someone somehow will manage to deal with hardware acceleration in ics on desire WITHOUT any manufacturer's involvement?
And if not, is it even remotely possible that ardeno would decide to release a driver working on ics?

No, I think Terepin had the right idea. THIS is "Ardeno". Though why that guy should be able to build us some GPU drivers is beyond me.
I obviously meant adreno the gpu line, but having hoped to get a serious answer here was foolish, as it requires a tiny bit of knowledge which, quite obviously, none of you have, and honestly, I think nobody does. Still, I thought maybe I've missed something

No, I was asking who is Ardeno, not Adreno. And how can GPU decide to release drivers is beyond me.
I strongly advice you to find some kind of hobby, or any kind of activity for that matter, so you can stop wasting your time creating garbage posts, which are not witty NOR bright, believe me...
Man, you're a hypocrite.
Even if we overlook the spelling mistake, your idea that Adreno might release GPU drivers is ridiculous. Adreno is a graphics chip inside the Qualcomm SoC, not a person or a company. If you'd said Qualcomm might release some drivers, you would have at least been semantically correct, but even so the chances of Qualcomm releasing Adreno 200 drivers for ICS are absolutely ZERO, since no phone with that GPU will ever "officially" run ICS. Or did you think they release drivers for fun?
I think it's quite obvious what I meant, and you don't need to be a douche as there are far better solutions for your low self-esteem.
Sure they won't release a driver if no adreno 200-powered device is meant to run ICS, but checking mobile technology news or rumors is definitely not in my daily routine. That's why I've asked you silly geeks of xda.

...and furthermore it takes much more energy to manufacture a photovoltaic cell than it will ever reproduce in it's effective working life time. Plus the damage to the environment involved in the processing of the chemicals used to make these cells is something the solar panel industry doesn't want you to know. It's one of the reasons the world isn't solar powered yet.
The other one being that even the high-end (expensive) ones that only drop 1% efficiency per year, will see you wait approx 10 years before they've paid for themselves. Few people take the risk of needing to be in one place for that long just to see a return on their investment.

I think it's comparing two different things, despite the boombastic title of this thread. Why forget Energy Ring? It is a battery indicator, if you need that better not forget that app. Chainfires app is very advanced and well developed, but serves a different purpose, it reacts to apps notifications that try to trigger the LED.

He's an asset but not to any community, you shouldn't think he does this for pure boredom or internet appreciation, he's hasn't always been very transparent about his apps.
Besides that problem, the app itself has limited functions and everyone who tested it reported noticeable drain.
Samsung should implement it because they have full access to the system and their solution shouldn't need hacks(like faking the lock screen) to work, it seems stupid for them to waste the chance of using the cutout for notifications after teasing it for so long.
I agree they should implement notifications but will they? , edge lighting notifications already present not that it works like
Battery drain ? Doesn't even register any on mine

BOOOO, @Chainfire has made more strides and implications than you obviously know. He's made things possible over the years that NO ONE can do! You speak your mind that's the 5th amendment, but you arare TROLLING BS. Sorry sad but true. You dont want to utilize his implementations and knowledge cause he's "bored or not transparent" LMFAO, that's your prerogative, there is NO battery drain and since your SO Obsessed with that of course you haven't even tried it. BTW the implementation of the lockscreen and AOD function perfectly... Samsung sucked the bag on this and you shun upon @Chainfire. Lol have fun optimizing and not utilizing the true battery life of this phone disabling all these common features. that make this device great and I I will not even consider or respond to your silly posts lol:laugh: bye bye

I read ridiculously stupid posts almost every day on XDA but yours is by far the dumbest wall of text coming from a senselessly triggered unrelated person I've ever seen.
You even brought some followers with you to like your comment, very nice but that's just silly.
I personally couldn't care less about Chainfire or his work and I have no reason to hate him either, simply no reasons for me to lick arses around like you just did.
@topjohnwu is both a better Dev and a more honest member, if you really want to worship anyone then he's the first man to deserve that.
And no, the guide doesn't involve disabling any "common features", whatever you meant with that, it's all about introducing common sense in power management, every paragraph is optional and unrelated to the other, it doesn't involve root or damage to the device in any way.
Hold your horses ppl, i think both Chainfire and topjohnwu are great members of this community.
There is absolutely no reason to pick one over another.
I simply do not allow bashing or downplaying any of them!
So please play nice shall we?! :good:

So ignore this thread and carry on then. There's no need to post stupid shit like:
Nah I wouldn't don't touch anything remotely related to Chainfire.

Thank you both! I'm sorry if I offended you guys. I have deepest respect for all. Being flamed is not cool... I feel like I was being flamed or trolled as well as others.... This is a place where I RESPECT people's input and learn and give any knowledge I have. Not to be offended by anyone. Sorry if this was posted elsewhere.. PEACE to all

I'm an S10+ owner. I use these particular forums every day as an S10+ owner. And also as a user of the app mentioned in the OP.
And also as a moderator of the forums.
That's how it's related to me.
OP just got excited about coming across the app, and wanted to point it out to others. This thread did no harm. While comments like yours do.

I'd say you can continue moderating your own Reddit or 4Chan threads, you're clearly not doing your job here.
There's already a topic on this in Themes, Apps and Mods, no reason for this thread here to exist, even worse now that it's filled of rude triggered comments, Chainfire fanboys and "stupid ****" like your unnecessary intervention, pathetic.
