How do I overclock my HTC Touch Pro 2? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hy,
I saw on the internet that someone has clocked his HTC Touch to 800mHz. But I wanna know how I can do that two! A small increase of the total mHz is also welcome. (600+mHz). I hope that someone can help me
Thanks
regards,
Sami

I second this
Greatly appreciated if someone can help.

Someone on the internet posted a screen of his Touch Pro 2 (clocked to 800mHz) nuerom.com/BlogEngine/post/2009/09/06/Touch-Pro-running-at-800MHZ.aspx
But there is no tutorial how to do it....

That link you provided is for Touch Pro (Rapahel) not for Touch pro 2 (Rhodium)
As far as I know there is no way to overclock the Rdodium processor...
(hope I´m wrong)

Some updates, Touch Pro 2 Stuff

On Overclocking
I still haven’t been able to identify how to control the PLL properly. I need to look into Linux/Android code, where they apparently have the Kaiser running at 528MHz just fine. Again, once I figure this out, the tool will be updated.
On The Touch Pro 2
I got the Touch Pro 2 from Sprint, finally – and can begin working on it. I’ll have a version of the battery driver with FastCharge, Temperature Override and 1% soon, I’ve already disassembled/reassembled it, it’s just awaiting my patches. I’ll probably post a review soon, but the best part of this phone is the screen. If you haven’t seen one, go and look at one. I’d say some of the major cons are the price (on Sprint), the missing tab button and the lack of a flashlight. It is definitely faster according to my reference benchmarks on stock. This will be my target device for a CE6/CE7 BSP as well now.

It's the same internal chipset (MSM7xxx series), so theoretically it should work. IIRC the OMAP overclocker works on almost all the OMAP-based phones on XDA. If anyone's interested in trying it, you can download the overclocker here.

Yeah, that is true, but to this date I haven´t heard of anyone who has tested with successful results
Anyone?

I am fixing to test this in a few minutes.
Wish me luck!

Good luck! Let us know what happens and you might want to be out in the cold just in case it overheats.

For some odd reason, it doesn't show the 700+ MHZ Clock..
I can underclock easily though if that helps anyone with battery life.
Hmmm..

I´ve read that they (nuesoft) are working on it
Hopefully soon we see some tool that works with Rhodium!
let´s keep this thread alive so soon as anybody has an update will post it here

Really? How much of a boost do you get? If underclocking is stable, that'd be a huge bonus. Most of my mobile tasks don't require running a full clock.
I've checked nuerom pretty regularly since September to see if there's any news, but I had no idea it worked at all on TP2. My impression was that, despite sharing a processor with TP1, this item wasn't compatible for some reason. Maybe I was just reading too much into the errors people were getting due to it being early in development.

It would be great if the TP2 can get some more mHz. Thanks for the replies. Lets hope there will be soon a app that will clock the TP2 to a higher level Would like it!
So keep us updated if you've heard something or if you need someone to test a app
Regards,
Sami

It worked stable, even at 19.20mhz, but it was extremely [email protected][email protected]
Haha, do NOT run it lower then 100, it will kill you. Easy to fix though, just soft reset.
Works great when I'm out without a charger
Edit: It gave me another 2-3 hours at 384mhz I believe

(thanks for responding )

Nothing new on the overclock development on the touch pro 2 yet???

you can try racing stripes or flame decals. maybe even a spoiler. everyone knows that makes things go faster.

wow only 3 days... i guess XDANDROID does have battery issues
I bought a 2400 mAh battery from amazon and it gives me pretty good life with android. I use it up in a day though just due to my non stop toying with the OS and apps. I really push it hardcore with overclocking and major syncing and updates every 15 minutes, on as much as I can, and this battery will last me about 4-6 hours. If I'm frugal about the usage, it will work all day and usually still be on when I wake up in the morning.
Link if anyone is interested:
http://www.amazon.com/Fosmon%C2%AE-Capacity-2400mAh-Rechargeable-Neckstrap/dp/B0028OYO08/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1278427866&sr=8-1
And yes, it's freakin huge! It looks very awkward in my pocket.
Hi can anyone see if Project inf works? It says connection lost for me when trying to load into a game, though I can connect to it and make a character.
What I am trying to figure out is if it's a device problem or just my wifi.
It's free and can be found in the market.

3000 mah
You've also said that we shouldn't believe the battery meter but when do I really now it is about to end then? I dont know if the battery life is good or bad without the meter :S
i got a 2400mah off ebay too. lasts about twice as long as the standard battery.
i also have a 1500mah battery. gets me maybe an 30mins to an hour longer useage.
those of you with the 2400mah, does battery reporting work in winmo? the one i have i got for my g/fs diamond. threw it in my tp and the battery reporting does not work, however in android it does. (not correctly of course).
as far as telling how much battery is there, the gauge we have is best right now. i usually give it an hour or 2 once it tells me it has 5% left. i notice performace take a big hit once my battery is about to die. everything gets real screwy.

As far as I can tell, it seems to be changing, however, I spend so little time in winmo anymore, I really couldn't tell you if its accurate. Are we supposed to change anything in Android to reflect the bigger mAh battery for more accurate readings? I seem to recall that there is a setting somewhere to change the mAh rating of your battery.
there is a setting but i believe it is built into the system.ext2
not something we can easily change ourselves.
and no, when in winmo, it doesn't read that there is a battery there at all lol.
I just checked. My battery is definitely showing up in winmo, and it changes as the battery is used.
if you download the free app in the market call: BatteryTime Lite", It will allow you to set the battery 's Mah ratings
Wasn't sure where to put this, so I'll throw it here.
Do we have a key mapped to the "search" button in Android? I can't seem to find one at all. Reason I ask is the app AndChat uses the search hardkey for nick autocompletion... So how can I use it to autocomplete nicks? Thanks!
LED Flashlight?
Is there a version of hTorch for Android?
I tried a few "LED flashlight" apps from the market but none work.
Then again, perhaps the camera LED isn't even enabled yet if the camera isn't?
I use the LED "flashlight" more than the camera.
Maybe I just need to buy a keychain flashlight. LOL

afaik its optional to have a search button. On devices such as raph/diam we dont have the option. Some native android phone dont have the button either so we arent missing a core button.

We can use the flashlight. phhusson enabled it not too long ago however there isn't an apk that utilizes it atm. if you do a search in the 2.2 thread you'll find the answer and i'll probally request chamonix to implement the function into ledeffects if he can

Thanks to all the xdandroid devs. Using xdandroid on my AT&T Fuze convinced me that my next phone would be an android phone. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) that time has come. The external speaker on my Fuze died last night so I now have a Captivate on order. (I was hoping to wait for a new HTC android phone on AT&T, but the Captivate seems to be the best available right now.)
Thanks again for all the time the devs have dedicated to making android work on the older WinMo phones. Without you I'd probably be getting a Tilt2 or Blackberry.

Anyone interested?
There is interest in this phone, but not as much as I would have thought.
You'd think a ruggedized phone like the DEFY would get more interest, but then again it hasn't been out for even a week yet.
Maybe after it has been out for a while there will be more people that take an interest in it.
Here is hoping so!!

Motorola Defy arriving tomorrow!
+1 Can't wait to get this phone! My friend just picked it up, and I got to play with it.
Quadrant scores were right along a Vibrant, hopefully it gets Froyo before the end of the year, but I could wait, it was more than fast enough.
Weight was about the same as the Vibrant, but the form factor is awesome, the screen being 3.7 and the Vibrant being 4, you'd never guess it was that close cause the Defy is so much smaller in the hand. It's just all screen.
Games loaded fine, probably due to the PowerVR GPU. And the web browsing seemed pretty quick as well. Sound quality was also like most Motorola phones, really good, these guys can build radios and phones. And the screen is great in direct sunlight, think it's got a transreflective tft under that Gorilla glass.
But all in all, I don't understand why there isn't more hype on this phone? I'm thinking this is one of those phones that would agree with many people. Not a 4.3 monster, nor a 3.2 mini. Slightly bigger screen than an iPhone, but smaller form factor and lighter. More than powerful enough to run anything, and they made it life proof...I know in the current market, there are front facing cameras, and 4g. But really most people don't need either. They're great features for a select few, but the majority of people don't need a front facing camera or would come close to utilizing 4g. Look at how many people kept their blackberrys and iphone 1 and 2gs.
Hopefully community support with grow for this phone!! think it's time for me to start learning how to cook up some roms soon! I'm getting one today!
+1 for a Defy section
I would like to have a Phone without a need for Extra Protection.
That is the reason because I am very interested in this Phone.
can only hope some good hackers and cooks buy this phone too.. Custom ROMs are a must.
+1
my defy will arrive next week on monday

This phone looks sweet except that the proc is only 800 and the VR GPU is not included. But the rugged factor is a sale for me. I was using a mt3g in the field yesterday as a stopwatch, gps, level, camera, notes, tethering and for tunes! ...blowing dust and sprinkling rain were the only concerns and they would have been mitigated with this rig! Bring on the new era these phones have the capability of lessening my pack list for field days.
The defy actually HAS a PowerVR530 included.
The official Specs have been updated accordingly and Quadrant says so too on my Defy (which came yesterday ).

sadly ....you are mistaken. I wish it had a powerVR but it does not. its purely a CPU. I found it on a file on the TI site

Regardless it needs its own section so we can get some development going on it.

[Q] (SOLVED!) Overclock the Defy?

*SOLVED*
Milestone Overclock - a free download from the marketplace does now support the Defy. Quadrant shows promising figures for sure.
Just wondering whether anyone has gotten the Defy to Overclock?
I've been trying some Droid Overclock apps as well as purchasing Set CPU.
I've successfully rooted my phone which is a requirement for enabling overclocking features. Set CPU won't even start.
None of the apps I've tried have been working properly.
Any tips?
in developement
Look on the milestone overclock googlecode page, its on the todo list
good to know
Yepp, thanx a lot. Since the chipset has clear OC potential this will be very interesting. Especially if the Defy has an omap3630 core, we'll see.

I'm pretty confident that it does indeed have a 3630: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9540564&postcount=34
Not only because of the screenshot from windows, but look at how close it is to the Droid X, running a 1ghz 3630.
Wow! and getting that benchmark score while running on 800MHz is quite impressive. I've got good hopes that a ported Milestone Overclock will unleash the raw power the phone truly possess.
And this is not the best defy can do. Actually 1117 has been reported from 2 users (one is me).
Im not sure how this phone is so amazing, and so cheap at the same time
umm yeah anyways, just wanted to say i got quadrant scored of around 1110 to 1118 ish i think- after task killing
Really hoping for some custom 2.2 roms in the near future, like some others said it will make this probably -one of- the best androids out there

weeeeell to be fair there was a little cheat there, that was with JIT enabled. But JIT by the standard method wasn't stable, at first it was fine but then after ab out an hour I started to get random force closes, so I reverted. Its a little insight to what can be achieved with JIT. IMO I'll take JIT over a 1GHZ overclock.
Could anyone of you guys share your benchmark results after running Milestone Overclock? I'm now running on 1.2GHz and it's stable

My first benchmark result was in mid 1000 but after a restart I got that score too.
To use JIT is better wait for froyo because have it in native form. There are a appl called JITTER in the market but I think that isn't reliable. (I don't know about other appl similar than)
Now I use the Milestone Overclock beta4 and configure the oc at 1000/56
Someone have better configuration to use? Can explain why?
Hey guys.. Overclocked my Defy with the Milestone Overclock. 1200/66
Got a 1438 benchmark on Quadrant Standard. Putting the vsel any lower got my Device to reboot.
After trying it out I switched back to 1000/52 because some users said that running on 66vsel could damage the CPU.
Main effect I had: Launcher runs very smooth, My battery life went down to 24 hours (37h before).
With 1000/52 I still get a benchmark around 1247
Works for me because I´m saving battery and still got enough power to have a smooth launcher.
But: Can anyone please tell me what the standard settings are ? *lol* Forgot them 800Mhz an vsel=???
Thx in advance.

[Q] upgradeability ,text sharpness and screen burn in?

hi,
as someone who wants to finally board the android train, and is particulary impressed by the note's concept, i was waiting for thw GN2 to be avilablele, but i have a few questions:
1. i intend to use my next device for approximately 2-3 years. i've read here about concerns regarding the GN2's "outdated" hardware. normally it wouldn't bother me, but it's my understanding that the A15 is a huge leap forward, and in light of HTC's announcement about updating only to 2012 devices, i wonder if the A15's could become the new standard and when key lime pie (or the next one) comes, it would be too demanding in samsung's eyes and it won't be officially supported. in addition, some devs. dropping development for exynous based phones combined with the fact that afaik, CM doesn't support the s-pen's features (which are a main part of why i chose this device) may leave it behind for me. is it reasonale to expect at least 2 years of support by samsung?
2. has anyone used the handwriting recognition to solve math problems (i.e. infinitisimal calculus)? does it work well?
3. how much time can i keep the screen on wih a still background before i risk screen burn in?
4. does the screen appear not so sharp while viewing text, due to the somewhat low pixel density?
5. i've read here a comment about the note 3 supposedly released on march 2013. is that a popular\ reasonable opinion?
thanks a lot for the patience reading this post, and in advance for your much needed help!!
Two years of support will definitely happen. The old Note 1 is still getting updates, and recently includes the multi-tasking sidebar.
I've used the handwriting with equation inputs. It does not solve calculus for you. You just get to input it.
Not sure about burn in. But on HDAMOLED screens. I've heard upwards of 2 years on moderate usage.
The PPI thing is personal preference. I came from iPhone 4, and while the Note 2 PPI is lower. It does make up with its monster display.
Note 3 rumours need to be taken with a pinch of salt. I don't see it happening. Although anything can happen. There are credible reports of Apple releasing i5S as soon as feb or march.
I can only comment on text sharpness. And in my opinion it is perfectly fine. Words still look great when zoomed in etc. All the round letters look round abd not jagged

Two years of support will definitely happen. The old Note 1 is still getting updates, and recently includes the multi-tasking sidebar.

that's very reassuring. does "support" usually mean implimentation of certain features or the full ver. of android?

i read about the partnership with wolfram alpha, since i check many of my results on their site and given the note's ability to recognize handwriting, i thought it would save me a lot of time. is it not possible or did you not try it on wolfram alpha?

full version of android. seems like my old galaxy s2 will still receive full jelly bean even though it is 1 1/2 years old. Samsung is actually quite good with updates compared to other oems (except google and apple of course)
I used s note with wolfram alpha a little. It does work flawlessly for what I tried. Didn't try it excessively though.

thanks for the rapid responses!
since it's pretty much why i need the s pen, can anyone with n7100 try to write some short random integral/ derivative with Exponentiation with the s-pen to see if wolfram can use it? it would erase every shred of doubt i have, and assert this phone as the chosen one..

The search button (the one with the questionmark) takes you to the solution at wolfram alpha.

Are your CPU cores always online?

Hello,
On my old smartphones some cpu cores go offline when system is idling.
Is it normal that the snapdragon 820 does not turn off the big CPUs?
Attached a screenshot.

Wow what a amazing discovery.. I didn't notice that since I got a op3.. That just shocking man.. Now what?Is my phone going to explode? Is my battery going to die? Is my phone going to dance?
820 doesnt have hotplugging. Period.

Cmon man be gentle on the guy. He probably does not even know what hotplugging is.
To op, this is completely normal. The kernel does not have any hotplugging built in.

No-one said that this is a discovery.
I was just surprised that changing to cyanogenmod battery profile one of the Cores is going offline but the cpu itself is not hot plugging.
And a small hint for you, I am much longer here on XDA than you are. Therefore be respectful with the old men, they don't have the time to check every single new cpu architecture that's coming out. I hope your are more kindly in your real life. [emoji4]

Respect is really hard to find these days on Xda.. But the CPU should go in different 'sleep states'.

There were a few people and threads on xda investgating this sd810/820 seemingly erratic behavior awhile ago although not necessarily in op3. In my not in the least expert opinion, this is a bug but learnt to not care about. I mean what is the alternative really

You mentioned it yourself:
"I am much longer here on XDA than you are."
That is the exact reason why I replied in such way.. Being a old member you could have just searched and found answer rather than creating a thread and waiting for replies.. The question you asked has been answered in any kernel thread related to the 820..
As far time is concerned, new inventions/ architecture/andriod versions, they don't happen everyday... You could just browse xda and read tech stuff while taking a dump.. Takes only few minutes to read stuff about few months back.
On side note : You don't ask for respect.. You earn it..

Calm down boy. I did searching for this specific problem many times. My fault was not searching for the word hot plugging
Look at my created posts, you won't find many threads, where I ask something.
I found bug reports, like only 2 cores running (my phone had the same problem).
Furthermore I don't have a custom kernel. And therefore I didn't start searching every one plus 3 kernel thread.
And finally you are totally wrong.
Respect is what you have to give to everybody from the beginning, even by not knowing him.
The way you think, that's the reason why there are so many conflicts on earth.
