As the title says.
Moto Z Play was locked to Telus, unlocked it to work with Rogers.
Was working perfectly fine until I installed the latest update, and now I have no signal (I believe this was the latest security patch).
Tried removing the sim, rebooting, safe mode, tried another carrier's sim (WIND) -doesn't recognise that sim either.
Android Version: 6.0.1
Build Number: MPNS24.104-44-10
Android Security Patch Level: November 1, 2016
Is there a way to revert this update? -go back to the previous version? or is there (ideally) a way to fix this?
Thanks,

Where/how do I get correct APNs?
(I can't even place calls, not sure if APNs are only relevant for data?)
It'll be difficult for me to call rogers and confirm the APNs (Is there I link to where I can see these online?)
I've temporarily switched back to my (****ty) iPhone 6s until I get this resolved.

APN matches (At least for Rogers Internet -not sure about Rogers Tethering, it has different values).
Any other ideas? (Do APNs actually have an effect on this? -it was my understanding APNs only affect DATA? -My phone is unable to make or receive calls and texts).
Can I undo this latest update?
Is your bootloader unlocked? If yes , then you could flash the stock firmware. If your bootloader is locked , then I would not temp you to flash the stock firmware.
Are you positive your sim card isn't the issue?
Have you tried a factory reset? You'll loose your existing set up.
Do you see your IMEI?

Try this
Try to power off your device and connect the charger so it enters into the charge only mode (make sure to see the green battery icon). Now reboot and your signal should be back; it worked for me, I'm also pretty sure what the problem is if this works for others too.

Hello
I attempted the reboot from charging mode, -Was not successful.
Yes, I am certain the SIM is ok, Sim works in iphone 6s, and a WIND SIM has the exact same issue.
Do I see my IMEI? I'm assuming you mean how it shows the IMEI when the incorrect SIM is inserted into a locked phone. -No I do not see the IMEI unless I dial *#06# in the dial pad. (The phone appears to still be in an unlocked state from when I unlocked it when it was locked to Telus).
Just attempted a factory data reset -The issue persists :crying:
The bootloader is still locked. I don't mind trying to unlock it and flash another ROM, but I would need relatively simple to follow step-by-step instructions. Just a little history, this phone was purchased off of Kijiji for $120, if I kill it during the process of unlocking/flashing new firmware I'm not going to be terribly upset -Obviously I'd prefer it to be in a working state, but I don't have a whole lot invested into this device, and am willing to try anything to get it working again.
btw, your help thus far is GREATLY appreciated (even though we don't have a resolution yet -I am still greatful).
Don't mind helping out.
Now here's the problem! If you pick the wrong firmware to flash, well you may have a unrecoverable device.
Is there still a warranty with the device?
Sent from my XT1635-02 using XDA-Developers mobile app
From what I understand, the warranty only extends to the original purchaser and is non transferrable. So as far as I'm aware, I have no warranty on this device, and as such, don't mind voiding a warranty that doesn't technically exist.
I am pretty good at following instructions and have successfully jailbroken several iPhones and iPads in the past, and have even managed to unlock the bootloader and flash a new Rom on my nexus 7 lte edition. But I will admit that my success with the nexus 7 feels more like a fluke as I didn't really understand everything I did to get it working. That's why I'm hoping for some step by step instructions this time around.

Wouldn't I need the telus version since this phone was originally locked to telus? Or does it actually matter?

well some folks have had issues with flashing another carriers firmware and I'm not positive that bye flashing the firmware will it remove your sim unlock . I think you should be ok to flash the rogers firmware, its has bell crap in the firmware, so i would say its ok for all canadian carriers but again iI'm not positive.
Would the instructions be the same for each?
Could you give me the links for both?
Maybe I can download telus while attempting the Rogers one?
You do have fastboot and adb installed on your computer? Also you'll need the moto drivers.

Here's the firmware thread but there's no telus firmware. https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/development/moto-z-play-stock-firmware-t3454495

Flashing:
Put the files needed in the same folder that fastboot is located, I believe it tools folder
Open a cmd window with admin rights
put your phone into fastboot mode and plug it into your computer
Type in fastboot devices
that should tell you if it's working
1) fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
2) fastboot flash boot boot.img
3) fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
4) fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
and do all 10 sparsechunk
after that fastboot flash oem oem.img
followed by fastboot erase userdata
and finally fastboot reboot
your device should reboot

This is one reason I root my phone everytime, ota's aren't always the best way to update your phone, I've seen this many times. I normally flash custom ROMs and always do nandroids , you can then easily revert back if things go bad.

I am having problems with my phone recognizing my SIM.
To give some background, I soft bricked my phone flashing a different firmware, trying to go to GPE. I got the phone back to stock with RUU, re-unlocked bootloader and I am also S-Off. I flashed the MIUI Rom and it could not recognize my SIM, so I flashed Tasks ROM and the same problem. I then flashed this radio “1.16.21331931.LA11G_20.31A.4145.02L http://d-h.st/NUa | Thanks cruzin_cruzing!” found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2736921. That did not fix the issue.
When I type *#06# to see my IMEI nothing shows up, but when I look up my IMEI in fastboot using “fastboot oem readimei” it shows the correct IMEI. Does this have something to do with the issue?
Any help on this would be great, I have hit a wall doing everything I know to do.

Try a factory reset from recovery.
Sorry to say this but why do you open a new thread for your troubles when you dont even get back to the old one and continue there !
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2948577
Not very nice of you......and you could have used that thread to continue with your issues.
People put time and effort in your issue it would be nice to get back to them when you get it solved.
Ultimately your goal is to have a working device now right.
Grab the stock ruu and get it back to stock ,from there maybe just use it for texting, messaging,Facebook, etc.

I am using the SIM right now in another phone, so its not bad. I think the problem has something to do with the IMEI. The phone shows no IMEI when I type *#06#, it is just blank. But, in fastboot, it shows the correct IMEI when I type "fastboot oem readimei"
What would make the phone not recognize the IMEI when it shows it correctly in fastboot?

I did some work over the holidays on my phone to try and get it working again with no luck. I upgraded the firmware downgraded the firmware, installed several ROMs, went back to stock and I still have the same issue. The phone can't seem to read the IMEI number, which is causing it to not be able to connect to ATTs network, but I can see the correct IMEI in fastboot. Below are a couple of screenshots I took while working on it. If anyone can help come up with new ideas on how to fix this, that would be helpful.

Hi Guys cut a long story short bought a "new" M9 from ebay. apparently it came rooted, alerted by installing my banking app, so I downloaded an app Super user to " un-root" the phone, however this made android not to load.
TDRW was installed when I got the phone.... ebay user lying saying I tried to root the phone, which I didnt and never have . Tried to install custom ROMS but all i'm getting is the Bootloader screen when I reboot. Firmware version 1.32.651.30, tried to update firmware but I get an error that the phone is not connected to USB after the program tries to send and it hangs on the picture of a phone with a green circle in it(error 155) . I tried Android Revolution ROM and all i'm getting now after that ROM sucessfully installed is the phone looping into the HTC bootloader screen....Any help is much appreciated...I have a brand new shiny HTC brick...Im willing to pay the user that comes up with a solution within reason....
Phone is S-OFF and I can get to HTC Recovery and TDRW .

For this I'm not sure. Sprint usually have different hardware to International models. Which means you normally have to use Sprint firmware. I'm not sure if this applies to the M9 though. It was certainly the case with the M7.
Was the phone working with your O2 service before the problem started?

The ruu is definitely suitable for that device. Sprint phones are designed to use US CDMA networks while International phones are designed to use GSM networks.
I am also in the UK and have always used international GSM devices. I don't know if it's possible to convert a Sprint CDMA phone to use 4G in the UK.
But that ruu will return the device to stock unrooted Sprint software. It will get the phone working but I can't guarantee you will be able to gain 4G access as it could be subject to hardware difference in the Sprint device.

Check this thread, sorry but it seems that Sprint devices cannot use 4G on a GSM network.
If the device was s-off when you received it then it was definitely tampered with before you purchased it. Maybe you can get a refund or a replacement GSM device by going back to the seller. Using the RUU will remove all traces of root but the device will remain s-off.

Ok the Phone is working thank you very much, its a full on SPRINT handset in the UK. I cant get 4G to work all i'm getting is GPRS...calls and SMS are fine...any ideas?
So kinda glancing around and trying to dig, it seems if you order the phone from Google Store, you can unlock bootloader and root on any OS. If obtained from Verizon, you cannot root if it already has 7.1.1? Is this statement correct? So it seems to best order it from Google Store it seems?

You have it exactly right.
I just came across the same consensus. If it helps, I have the Pixel XL 128 with Verizon, version 7.1.1 and my build is NOF26V.
The verizon pixel xl's are still shipping with NDE63P, which is 7.1 and still not patched against depixel8. So for the time being you can get one from either.

Not from what I've seen. People all over are saying the Verizon units are now shipping with 7.1.1. Get it from Google if you want to be able to unlock.
I wont argue that, i received mine in early feb, the 5th i think, so it may have changed. So to be safe google is the right choice, i just couldnt pass up the chance to get it for half price, so i took a chance and it paid off. Literally.

Im very disappoint and upset, I got Pixel XL came with 7.1.1 (NOF26V) VZW So, I have been research on the website and mostly They said 7.1 to 7.1.1 "early" It's seem I can't get unlock bootloader anymore, but maybe in the future could be exploit patch?
The answer is maybe, but since the guys that did it before i dont believe are even working on another, i wouldnt get your hopes up.

Verizon is definitely still shipping them with only 7.1. I just got mine 4 days ago and could see it was wanting to update. I didn't take it because I was trying to unlock bootloader with depixel8. Depixel8 wasn't working i can't remember the error but it was hanging on the first step, trying to push it to /data/local/tmp. I tried rebooting to start over and when it came back up it had 7.1.1 on it and now I can no longer try unlocking or rooting. So you can still get it from Verizon, just don't let it reboot before you get it unlocked

I wouldn't even take the risk at this point. Spend a lil more out of pocket and by it directly from Google if you're looking to unlock. Some vzw models are shipping with 7.1.1 now. Would kinda suck to open the box and not be able to unlock. Best bet for anyone is to buy from Google if you plan on unlocking.
Are you sure you cannot root even using the TWRP method?
I saw a post regarding TWRP then flashing SU
I just ordered mine today, I will let you know if I get it without the update

Actually looks like you have to use depixel8 to unlock the bootloader in order to flash SU with TWRP, I am hoping I get one that has the older version on it and isn't on 7.1.1
I don't feel like kicking out 860 when I can just have it billed by 30 a month to my verizon account.

Do not follow anything in that link, it is very out of date. And correct, you can't flash or boot TWRP until the bootloader is unlocked. And you cant root it until you get twrp running
If your Verizon phone comes with 7.1.1 or you update it to 7.1.1 before you unlock it you are done. Up to you if the gamble is worth it, just making sure you know what is what.
Well I am going to find out tomorrow when I get my pixel, is there an easy way to make sure it doesn't run the OTA update when opening it from the box? If I keep Wifi off and don't put in my SIM will that guarantee it or can you even get to the point to check the version without a SIM loaded? I am keeping my Galaxy Note ...does the Pixel come with the SIM loaded already and require activation?
I want to make sure it doesn't take the OTA update if I am lucky enough to get one without it. I use the Wifi tethering often when I am travelling as well as other root apps like Ti-Backup, Root Explorer, Ect...

Don't install the SIM, skip setup, and no wifi. You may have to connect WiFi for a second or two before the slider in dev options will work.

Best bet would be to use the Android toolkit in the Dev area and load depixel8? I've rooted 3 phones before but this one is quite different. I've used ADB, ect...just trying to find the "right" way to do it, can't seem to find an exact proper way other than this :

Well I obv have to get into the phone and check the version of the phone and enable Dev options and USB debugging before I can get into the phone using ADB...you're saying just skip the setup, keep wifi turned off and then *pray* it is 7.1 and then go ahead and install depixel8 and unlock...?

This is my plan, skip everything, get into the phone, hope to god it's 7.1, enable USB Debugging and Dev options from Settings...then use depixel8 to unlock the boot loader, then I am lost. Checked around 40 threads on here and have found 10 different ways to root...this is the XDA root :
How to Install SuperSU on your Pixel
As Chainfire mentions in his Google+ post, you will need to first download the boot-to-root images for the Pixel or Pixel XL off of his website. You can click here to download the zip for the Google Pixel, or click here to download the zip for the Google Pixel XL. After downloading the zip, you need to fastboot boot the boot-to-root image, DO NOT fastboot flash the image! In other words, the only command you’ll need for the two devices is the following:
fastboot boot boot-to-root.img
Wait a few minutes, and after a few reboots you’ll be booted up with full root access. Yay!

There are a lot of ways because this phone was so different, so a lot of what you see is the testing and changes that can from that.
So, after it is unlocked update it to 7.1.1 and then:
Download 2.7.9 SR3 SuperUser and copy it to your phone.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133
Download TWRP RC3 and copy it to your fastboot folder.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/development/twrp-alpha1-pixel-devices-t3500312
Using other versions than above will bootloop you. Reboot the phone into bootloader mode. Power and Vol down.
fastboot BOOT twrpFilename.img Where twrpfilename.img is the name of the TWRP file you just downloaded. Note is says boot in the command, not flash.
That will boot the phone into TWRP. Select Install and install the SU zip you copied to the phone above. And reboot the phone, done.

And here is the link to the proper fastboot version.
https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html
The box that the phone comes in has the software version on it. So you'll know before even powering it on. I got my regular pixel last week and it had 7.1.
Best is to disable automatic OTA upon opening the box when you find that you have 7.1. So there is a better chance of getting the exploit to work even after reboots.

Exactly, power on with no sim and skip any set up including wifi. No reason to do any set up as the bootloader unlock with wipe the device. Enable ADB and get to unlocking straight away. No sim and no wifi means there is zero way it can update itself on you.

my nexus is giving me the Firmware Update screen "dont unplug usb until after firmware completes". i looked this up and ran the LGUP following the instructions for it, but it always freezes at 46% progress in the application and 49% on the phone. tried going into the bootloader and throwing it into recovery mode, but it just goes straight back into the Firmware Update screen. bootloader is locked (Device State: locked) and secure boot is enabled. tried to unlock through NRToolkit but it always throws me back into the Firmware update screen with a "waiting for device" window whenever i try any of the options. apparently its recognized as a fastboot device through ADB, but i still cant flash anything on it cause its locked
heeeeeeeeelp, i wanna get this thing running again

is that possible to do with a locked bootloader and/or usb debugging not enabled?
Of course, it's the factory way.

That link is to a slim Rom. The OP is not going to be able to flash that. He's also not going to be able to flash the factory image with a locked bootloader.

I've never used that tool so won't be much help. I did just try to install it but didn't get it completely set up. And I don't really want to try it on my 5x. Getting into the bootloader and recovery doesn't work?

yep! i got the phone while it was locked by FRP and the seller did not have the login credentials of the last google account. i'm starting to understand why the price for it was so low haha
i followed a guide that recommended using the LGUP app and i gave that a shot, except i believe this phone is well and truly bricked to oblivion
i'm no stranger to messing around with fastboot/adb, and i thought i'd be able to work my way around this but its starting to seem a little out of my hands

I have no experience on the Europe version. I made the jump from T-Mobile version to India to International on 10.0.7 ok. Maybe you need to go back to stock then to a lower version? Or back to stock then redo everything including downloading files. I've had issues with posted bootloader images and created my own patched bootloader for 10.0.9 which solved my problem. Maybe someone else has a better idea.
