Hi everyone I'm a bit new to the forums, and I've been looking around for a larger dialer I think is what they call it. I was looking for one with much much larger number keys. Big enough maybe to take up the entire screen.
Also is there a way to make it stop changing from the keypad to call status when you make a phone call? or maybe have a call status screen with a keypad in it? or maybe one that is just combined?
Sorry about all the questions, I'm just not sure if I'm even searching on the right thing.
Thanks
I've just made a small and simple app for toggling screen rotation (see PLToggle in my signature). There's only 1 screen on it, but I'm not keen on it. I'd be really grateful if someone with more artistic tendancies than me would be willing to redesign the screen for me. It's the settings app in the start menu that I'm on about.
I need a background image, so that I can scale it to fit different resolutions.
I'm happy enough with the buttons, but if you think you can do something better then please feel free! The only thing with the buttons is that they need to be straight edged (you can't use transparency with .Net picture boxes, so just RGB, no ARGB).
Incidentally, I plan to get rid of the top button as it's only really for cancelling and closing the settings screen. I'd prefer to put a text description up there and have an exit button at the bottom of the screen in the usual softkey menu.
I'll also use the same background for an about screen which I need to add, and will obviously put thanks in there, and the app thread, for anyone that does something that's used.
Thanks in advance for anyone kind enough to help out
Hello All.
I need a little assistance please. I'm using Mr.Puffin's white notification bar for the latest Froyo update. I successfully hacked it and added by own transparent background by tweaking framework-res.apk and services.jar.
However one item remains and that is the button which appears in the notification bar (see attached) It has black text on a black background. I would like to change the background image for this button and I have no idea what the name is or where it resides. I've looked in the drawable-hdpi folder and can't make heads or tails of of this.
Would someone please be kind enough to advise me on how to change this button background image.
Many thanks!
* bump *
...anyone please?

This is something I did on the Hero back in the day, and at the time, was not an easy thing to pull off, at least not for something you would assume is pretty straightforward.
Though the procedure for the EVO is a bit different, the concept is similar for pulling the hack off.
By all reasonable expectations, if you look at the status bar XML, you would assume the button being used, per the XML is:
btn_default_normal.9.png
But, in looking at the image, it is a white button, not the default black button we see (same as with the Hero post referenced above), so, just as in the Hero, it is clear that the XML is being overridden via Java code. Why they do this I have no idea, but this is indeed the case.
The other issue is, this is using common / shared framework buttons, so you can't / probably shouldn't go and modify the button, as you'll end up breaking the display elsewhere throughout Android, where the font will no longer show up given a color change that hides the font color elsewhere, i.e. white text on white button.
Digging through the smali code you can see that instead, the buttons being used are in com.htc.resources.apk, such as:
common_b_button_small_rest
common_b_button_small_press
common_b_button_small_selected
Again, though, as mentioned, it would be a mistake to recolor these buttons to be white, for example, as this will break button text display all throughout your phone, so you will want to modify the smali code to point back the original images in framework-res, rather than those referenced above in com.htc.resources.
Did you see this reply? You bumped your post, so I'm assuming this was something you were looking to address sooner than later, but haven't heard back...

Thank you ever so kindly JsChiSurf! Just the ammunition I needed. Thanks again!
This is probably more of a general question not specific to Galaxy s III, but I have one so I guess it's relevant. Has any developers given any thought to making interface variations for left handed people? I feel like some of the interface features in android are specific to right handed people. Case in point: The notification panel has a clear button that's on the right hand side. The App drawer is on the right hand side. The text message program has the compose button at the top right. Those are the major ones I could think of. It's not a huge deal, but given the size of the device, it makes one handed use more difficult for us lefties.
Weird, I was in general discussion and it posted in the dev section. Sorry guys!

I don't how tied you are to your current apps, but Nova Launcher (and probably other custom launchers) will let you move the drawer button (and even have more than one).
ChompSMS has a long, middle new message button (check out screenshots in the Play Store).
I'm not sure about the notification bar, though. That actually might need a new ROM...
I need my navigation bar scaled up to probably 150 DPI.. Framework.res is way out of my league and I've seen some members uploading flashable .Zips so if that is possible it's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm using the Xenon HD ROM but I'll honestly settle for anything compatable at this point... I don't know if this is okay with forum rules but I am willing to pay USD through PayPal for this, as it should make my N7 usable again, and will be much cheaper than replacing parts.
If you're interested why I'm making this request read on... My screen cracked and won't respond to touch at the bottom inch. I'm hoping if I can raise the navigation bar it will allow me touch the buttons and also push my keyboard up as well, right now I can't hit the spacebar without rotating my device.. and playing games presents further complications :'( Thanks for reading and I hope someone can help me out!
