So, there's no way around this? We have crap internet at home and I was hoping to use a cable. Chromecast uses our limited data.
Dan
I've searched this too and all that i find its that it doesn't have compatibility with mhl or slimport or whatsoever comes out from the usb port you just can send the image trough chromecast or similar

Maybe use your phone as a Hotspot, and get a roku stick or something like that?
Just to inform the people subscribed to this thread or searching information, someone tested MHL on Z Play and it worked. Discussion I would recommend there.
...
so... is this real or not? This is a simple mhl adapter to micro usb and not to type c. If we just using a micro usb to type c converter you said it will work? Can you post a picture connected to your tv please?

Just to confirm that is working on my Moto Z Play
I have an USB-C to USB (3.1 full format).
This cable is connected to my smartphone and to the mhl adapter. This one is pluged to power with one USB and to the TV with the HDMI.
Just need to have adb debugging on and this is plug and play without any lag.
...
Can you PLEASE post a photo proving this? Mine is not working. And i cant found anything on youtube proving that moto z play have hdmi output...
This thread looking fake here. I cant ardestand why the moderators allowing this.
It supports HDMI out but only from the pins with some modomod future gadget? Or with some special maded cable for moto z play only?

I have used an HDMI switcher and this M.Way MHL : (https) (amazon.fr) /gp/product/B01LXP9X41/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Edit youtube : watch?v=a6AIaNRUApE&feature=youtu.be
I can't post direct links, sorry
More info :
You need to power the adapter with a charger (5V 1A), with my TV 's USB port it's not working.
You need to have in developper options, USB debugging ON and accept the connection the first time on your phone.
There is no video with Apps which have "HDCP" video copyrights protection like Netflix
But games and video play well (1080p)
cheers

You can also use the application EZCast
With EZCast, you need to set on USB tethering.
This will permit you to cast video, youtube or music on the TV and not on your phone.
But you can also mirror your phone with this application too.
This application can also update the firmware of the plug.
If it was real at this video you are posting it will not have any lag. It have 1 second at least lag. This is because you are doing wireless display mirroring and not with hdmi. It is a good joke but still its a joke. Sorry.
Think what you want, but it' not wireless and it hasn't lag at all.
If you don't believe me it's your problem. But buy this cable and try by yourself and return back here to post your results. But please stop saying it's fake without testing it.
By the descriptions, we can see that this adptador is compatible also with galaxy s6 s7, but I already had a s6 and it does not have compatibility with MHL, I bought several cables and none worked, what I can see is that this adptador works like a bridge USB, which transfers the image not by MHL but by a USB link similar to using mirroring via usb on the computer, so it is necessary to activate the USB debugging ... This is very good because it is comptaviel with any android that does not have support The MHL ... Very good !!

Well, is there?
I want to know this too. Can't see giving up a major feature like HDMI out.
Also, is there a ROM beside stock ROM which has IR blaster working?
According to the latest commit of V500 CM11 repo, it should be working now.

But I can't test for now cause I don't have Slimport cable.

Indeed. It definitely works, and to be sure I just watched a YouTube video, fullscreen, on my TV. It took a bit to establish a connection, going through some "unknown format" phases, but it connected allright and was perfectly stable and smooth.

I have mentioned that in the G Pad Accessories Forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569809&page=2
I bought one in Hong Kong !
It's NOT an Adapter, it's a direct micro USB to HDMI male plug Cable !!! with optional micro usb plug for charging !!!
HKD - $200 = around USD $25 - 26
Well... I don't want to setup my HTC One and shoot video of my LG G Pad and my 27" Dell Monitor.
What I did is, just plug in the HDMI and micro USB, and it works, it do take around 2 seconds to display the G Pad content on the Monitor.
But it run smoothly afterwards. with sound output from through HDMI also.

That's weird. You're saying that you're seeing direct HDMI out with a micro USB to HDMI cable? I didn't think that the G Pad was capable of that. What rom are you using?
Can you give us a picture of just the cable?

I am just sharing my own experience, and you don't believe it ?
maybe I missed something, I am using a SLIMPORT to HDMI CABLE !!!! Male micro USB plug to Male HDMI Plug !!!

Slimport micro USB to HDMI Cable !!!
Any Special settings needed in CM11?
This cable does not work on the 20 Jan CM11. Unless there are some special settings.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009LAZG2M/
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AWHPGJQ/ (Using this only when using S3)
EDIT: I flashed back to rooted Stock and the cable does not work with that ROM either.
The cable does work with KitKat in OG Galaxy Nexus (ShinyROM) and with Galaxy S3 with CleanROM 7 (based on Samsung Stock).
Looks like the G Pad is very picky which cable works. This is a drawback of the LG I guess.

You are using an MHL cable... The G Pad has a Slimport, not MHL port.
Thanks, This explains the difference. http://blog.clove.co.uk/2013/11/07/mhl-v-slimportwhat-is-the-difference/

You did miss something. You didn't describe it as a Slimport adapter. You said that it wasn't an adapter but a direct micro USB to HDMI cable. That's not the same thing as a Slimport adapter. Now, you are contradicting yourself by saying that it is, indeed, a Slimport adapter and not a direct micro USB to HDMI cable. I'm sure that this is just a language issue on your part, but maybe you can see why I was confused by your post.

It's quite possible that I'm just being ignorant, but what is the version of USB coming with the OP2? (v2, v3, v3.1) it's slightly more important in that v2 transfers data at up to 480 Mbps, v3 transfers data at up to 5 Gbps, but v3.1 transfers at up to 10 Gbps. That much variation in data transfer bandwidth is substantial. Just curious as to what we're going to get.

Yes, it does. You have to go to the Storage Menu and Enable OTG though.
OTG should work in principle, however propably only with a cable from Oneplus. It does not work with a OTG cable from Anker (just tested it).
Hmm, so this is strange. I have a Sandisk OTG enabled USB drive that I just connected to the OP2 using the OnePlus Micro-USB to Type C adapter. Worked perfectly to backup all my stuff from the old phone. I unplugged here and connected it as is to the OnePlus 3 and it doesn't work. Reconnecting to the OP2 works fine, all of the data shows up on PC also, but just won't show up on the OP3. Very strange, still trying to figure this out.

That is exactly what my doubt is.. I too have read that plugging in the dual otg drive via adapter doesn't works... If someone can put some light on this, we will be grateful
i purchased this Dash Micro G3 Type-C: Mini MicroSD Card Reader and it works great so far, i am mainly using it as a back up, it comes with a cool little keychain so i have when i need it, pretty compact too, does seem kinda slow, its only transfering at 15MB/s i know the sd card is way faster than that, but it works.

I tried it again and you're right... My cable has a extreme tight fit at the connector so I was a bit afraid to push it in with full force. Now I did and it moved in a tiny bit more.
Now it is working fine. So thanks @MagDag for your reply and I can now confirm that the Anker cable works fine too.
Hah indeed - it's really tight fit... I also was very careful in the beginning because I don't wanted to destroy my phone.

i doubt, that the phone actually recognizes the cable itself... however it will depend on how much juice the target device needs vs what the phone provides...

The OnePlus 2 type-C to micro-USB adapter is a non-standard thing. It was required for the OP2 because the OP2 type C USB is broken.
Try a generic adapter. That's the real test. Generic adapters didn't work on the OP2.
Hmm, so on the OnePlus forums, this seems to be the consensus ... The OnePlus Adapter was for the non-standard Type C on the OP2 and will only allow charging on the OP3, but not OTG. So far, third party standards compatible adapters seem to be working fine. I just ordered the Xiaomi Type C adapter and should get it in a week. Will post here again if it works.

Is there any cable which would allow you to charge and read an external flash drive? Never tried OTG before, so I don't know if this is even possible.
See the title.
Thx
I too would like to know.

I think hdmi is being replaced by wifi widi wireless links, I know it's not as fast as wired connections.
you should be able to use a chromecast hdmi device and connect it to your phones AP hotspot and then wireless send your video content to a hotel TV or the sort as like cabled hdmi, if thata what you are after (otherwise there are heaps of cheap usb powered portable mini wireless routers). I think there are apps like Web Video caster that can mirror your phones screen as well.

Highly doubtful. They haven't for a while.
They expect people to use Smart view these days. Mhl is most likely a thing of the past.
I'm lucky. I got my Samsung Galaxy Tab S still and still got the mhl lead with it.

Chromcast is best option possible and cheap. Install Local Cast and you can cast anything (kodi, popcorn, movie hd, YouTube) even own screen.

Should still be able to do miracast, which is the same thing as mhl but wireless.

No it won't.
Per Samsung support: "As of now there is no information regarding MHL compatible."
So that's a no.

No you don't need a WIFi network for chromecast. You can use your phone's hotspot and LocalCast to cast local content/apps.
This is a pain when trying to mirror your screen in your car lol. Will have to wire a Chromecast.

I hope so I use note 3 mhl and it requires different pins 11 instead of regular mhl cord. I'll try to see if it works. Might need an adapter since it's USB type c
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Free mobile app
What sucks is that type C is a HDMI out port. I had purchased the Type-C to HDMI connector from Google because at first they said the Nexus 6P would support it and then a week before launch they retracted their statement saying it would not come that way. I know the new Motorola Droid Z/Z Force support Type-C to HDMI so I hope the Note 7 does too.
From GSMArena...
The big adapter lets you connect any USB accessory with the ubiquitous port. You can even connect your old phone and have the Galaxy NOte7 transfer all information when you set it up.
The microUSB adapter is more for convenience - it allows you to use a regular microUSB cable or charger with the Note 7. It doesn't have USB host functionality unlike thebigger adapter.
Note that both adapters work at (relatively) slow USB 2.0 speeds (even the big one).
Unlike older USB standards, Type-C has an official TV-out standard - DisplayPort. So you are only a cable away from hooking the Note7 to an HDMI port on your TV or external monitor. But in the times of wireless casting, this option is starting to look well over its due date.
The wired connection can also be used in your car as long as the head unit supports MirrorLink. This standard mirrors the phone's screen (including touch input) onto the head unit. From the settings, you'll easily find an alternative launcher with big, easy to hit icons (the CarmodeStub we saw on the Galaxy Note5 too).

In that case, has anyone tried this with a USB-C to DP adapter?
Because it is a little bit confusing to find out is OTG even working with our devices and the information you can find around is just here and there on the forum, hope you don't mind if I share my experiences.
First of all, would like to thank @DrakenFX pointing us to the right direction.
So all we know devices won't work attached to a normal USB-C to Micro USB Adapter. Neither with the adapter comes with the phone nor with an aftermarket (56K resistor) adapter.
You need to get a USB-C to USB-A 3.0 Adapter. You can find several brands around. I just tried the cheapest I could in the UK. Comes from Amazon, 3pack and actually, it is on sale for £3.99
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MYPX7Y8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The build quality is OK however it looks not so good like an Aukey or an Anker, but those ones cost £5.99 and just double pack not triple.
Please share your personal experiences and I will put into the list. Hope it helps.
Devices working
Logitech Unifying Wireless Receiver with M325 Wireless Mouse and K360 Wireless Keyboard
Rapoo Wireless Laser Mouse with receiver
Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 USB Headset
SanDisk Ultra Dual USB flash drive - 32 GB
Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro USB Sound Card
MadCatz Street Fighter V Arcade Fightpad Pro - Haven't tested in games, working navigating in the Menu
Nvidia Shield Wireless controller attached with USB cable - Working in the Menu, I'm going to test in games
Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver PC - The receiver itself is working, but I need to dig my controllers to test
Sony PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset (Model CECHYA-0080)
Dualshock 4
Mobius actioncam
2.4GHz Multifunctional Fly Air Mouse Remote Mini Wireless Keyboard with Infrared Learning,Voice Input for Kodi Android TV box By Dupad Story
Devices NOT working
Microsoft XBOX One wireless controller via USB cable (I don't have wireless receiver) - You can feel a vibration but causes phone restart - With Nougat update, the controller still doesn't work but the phone no longer reboots
PowerA Spectra XO wired controller - Not working, no response
Turtle Beach Z60 USB Headset - Controller itself powered up, but no sound
Belkin 4 Port Ultra Slim Mains Powered USB Hub - Devices are not working attached to the HUB
To be honest I'm stuck with the controllers. They are working with games as HID. But if I want to configure touches it just does not work.
I'm using Tincore Keymapper. Rooted and Selinux set to Permissive. I can configure the touches and stick without problems but in action it is just crazy.
Any other software you can recommend?

I tried the Xbox One controller after the Nougat update. The controller still doesn't work but the phone no longer reboots now.
Found another working device
It's a Sony PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset (Model CECHYA-0080).
It has been recognized like "external joystick" but you can really listen music through this (ZTE 2017G B10).

Just tested my USB HSPA Stick (Huawei K3765), just for fun. Damn, it works too (with PPP Widget 3)!
The Dualshock 4 is now working as well on Nougat.

My old micro-USB OTG adapter from nokia works like a charm with the Axon. Of course with a USB-C>Micor-USB Adapter.

Oh God. That's amazing.
I have a USB DAC and amp (Hifiman ef-2a) and I can't get the DAC to take over from my phone when connected thru USB (Axon -> USB C to MicroUSB adaptor -> Microusb male to USB A female -> USB A male to USB male -> Burbrown DAC in the Hifiman) which is a shame. Would a USB C to USB A 3.0 female cable solve this issue?
I use this OTG adapter here, so far I've had no problems at all with: Usb sticks, Mobius actioncam and a Microsoft keyboard.

Yes, your problem is the USB C to Micro USB, imo.
Raphnet-tech Dual N64 controller to USB adapter - Works
Dualshock 3 also works on ZTE Axon 7.
I can confirm that a wired XBox 360 controller is working on the G variant with a nonda USB-C to A adapter . I tried GTA III, Radiation Island and Shadow Warrior Redux, all of them worked fine. Sadly, my old wired Logitech Rumblepad 2 is only good for navigating in the menus, games won't recognize it properly (Radiation Island is freezing when I move a stick or press a button).
I'm very sad to say that USB audio refuses to work using a "Hama*USB-C Adapter Cable, USB-C plug - USB 3.1 A socket, gold-plated, 0.15 m". I have a Hifiman EF2A headphone tube amp with built-in DAC and however much I fiddle with the settings (developer options), or even reboot the phone, it refuses to transmit the signal...
Hi Guys,
Was wondering about the Xbox One Controller - would it still be possible to use the controller when phone is rooted? I'm only planning to use the controller exclusively with the moonlight streaming app, which asks for root permissions since it has a built-in xbox one controller driver in order to stream controller inputs using Nvidia Gamestream. Would something like that work using usb-c to otg adapter (or anyone else willing to test it?)
