Is there a way to disable wifi tethering on a Nexus 5x?
I found this method, but I don't have the technical knowledge to begin. Any help is appreciated!

New GN user here coming off a Thuderbolt, and Nexus One before that. I'm trying to understand the workings of the on-board Wifi/USB Tether function. I've heard from some friends that it is monitored by VZW and will tack a tethering plan onto your bill if you activate it.
Is this true? Do I need to avoid the built in WiFi feature?

I can tell you that you will NOT have to add a tethering program with WiFi Tether, it's a root app.
I am trying to get Wifi Tether to work on my Sony Ion. I have read just about every answer on this site trying to get it to work and still nothing.
Currently I have a LT28at running LT28i Firmware, Android Version 4.0.4. build number 6.1.3.7, and rooted.
When I use the Wifi Tether app, it says that my hotspot is turned up but no devices around me and see it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

after posting this I found the hotspot/tether setting and it's all working now. guess the wifi tether app was not the way to go.
I've been using FoxFi with my Verizon G4, but hate that it forces me to use a PIN or Password lock screen.
Now that we have root, is there a better way to tether (unlimited data) than FoxFi?
Would the trick to edit build.prop for no provisions work, similar to the Nexus 6?
I tried the WiFi Tether Router app, but couldn't get the hotspot to show up on my computer.

I did the hotspot for the Nexus 5 a long time ago. Has it changed? Or do you do the same thing? Does someone have a tutorial on how to enable wifi hotspot with a rooted nexus 5x phone?
Hi, I am using the new Paranoid Android on the Nexus 6p on AT&T. It's great. However, the tethering option in settings is grayed out. I have tethering in my plan, and tethering worked fine on other ROMS. Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening and how to fix it? Thanks.
running same on Sprint, my tethering is grayed out as well.
You will have to edit your build prop to get tethering to work, do a search on XDA and the thread should show up
