Hello, Is there any way I can mount my OTG drive so a music app can see it, as if it was internal storage? I want to put all my music on an SD card and plug it into my phone, I can only see the contents of the OTG drive through a file explorer, any music player I tried will not see the music on the OTG drive... Is there any way to accomplish this? Are there any music players that will do this or a way to mount the OTG to do this?.

hey all, anyone know how to mount the phone to a car stereo, such that the external SD (ie the sd card) shows up?
I can connect the unit just fine, but it only see internal memory, and therefor no music data
any ideas?
this is a real bummer in comparison to my evo 3d, and older 4G that did this easier with dual sd mount
thanks for the help
Do you mount the USB or get the option to, like when hooked to a computer?
yes its the same method, pull down screen, choose usb etc...
the stereo only sees the SDCARD, which is internal memory
it wont access the externalsdcard...which is of course the microsd card slot
ive been searching to see if there is an app, that allows one to change the default usb directory.
works fine for me when i connect to my kenwood dnx7100.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
yeah I figured it out, it was dual sd mount
on my evo it is perfect, since you dont have to do the pull down prompt
but on the epic, it does what I dont want to do, which is mount the internal sd card
so now it works
sorry to bring up an old thread but im having the same problem with my galaxy s2
how did you get it to work?
is there an option to pick which card to mount?
yeah this auto mount app works best for me
https://market.android.com/details?...sMSwyLDEsImNvbS5qcnRzdHVkaW8uYXV0b21vdW50Il0.
dualsd mount, doesnt work for some reason on this particular phone
this is the only one that has worked for me with my kenwood
and just so you know, it mounts ONLY the sd card, for use on car audio,
it will auto mount BOTH drives, when connected to a PC, without having to use the dropdown status bar, but for some reason my kenwood and jvc will only see the sd card
I see.. well I tried that and 'multi mount sd'.
For me, both mounts the internal storage first so my pioneer headunit can only ever see that. Thing is my music are mostly on the external sd =<
Thanks for the info by the way, I'll try out some thing to change the order of the mount, there has to be a way! =P
the internal card has a shortcut named external_sd that will let youy access your files without actually mounting the volume
unfortunately that only works when you view it from your phone, i.e its a symbolic link
Does anyone know if it's possible, and if so, how to change the mount point of a USB flash drive connected via OTG cable?
Alternatively, does anyone know how to get the stock music app to add the usbStorage folder to the media library?
I have all my music on this USB stick and can't get the music app to add it to the library when I connect it. I have too much music to fit in the Nexus storage space.
No-one has any idea how to do this???
hi, so im rooted and used OTA cable with stickmount, it mounts my usb3.0 drive but it doesn't show any files, does it only detect or show fat32? i think my stick is NTSF
i also tried nexus media importer and it doesnt detect my usb drive
any other apps? thanks
i used free app called usb otg helper and it detects my ntsf drive but when i play the .mkv file theres no audio, maybe i don't have the right codec or video player?
What's the mount point of USB OTG storage on the disk? Since there is no way to play the music on the usb disk using Play Music app (correct me if I am wrong), I'd like to add the mount point to kodi and play it from there. Note that es-explorer is able to use Play Music app to play one mp3 at a time, but there is no playlist support or play complete folders/albums.
Any update on this? I to wild like to know. Thanks

My Pixel XL sees my OTG drive just fine from within the native file explorer - the one that comes up when you first plug the drive in. But curiously, Astro File Manager can't find the drive, either can PowerAmp. They only see internal storage.
I am careful to select "File Transfer" when the drive is first plugged in, so it doesn't think the drive is a power source.
Any ideas why the drive can't be seen via other means other than the native file explorer?
After some investigation, it appears that having an app access, or play, a file on an OTG drive since Android 6.0 has been a non-starter. Security and permissions in the OS seem to be at the root of it (no pun). Getting 6.0+ devices to see and execute files on an OTG drive - beyond the capability provided by the native file browser - seems to need root and/or other interventions that don't seem worth the effort for me.
If anyone else knows different, please let me know.
For me, having an OTG drive handy has value as I can easily copy files to internal memory in a snap when on-the-go, and simply play them from there with the app of my choice. Alternatively, if I were to push my Pixel to capacity by taking tons of pix and 4K video (not likely) I could easily off-load them to OTG.
You must have some kind of problems because I just tried and I can actually execute files (music, video, apk the ones I tired) from the external USB drive without having to copy them in the internal storage.
Both using the integrated Android default file manager and Solid Explorer (with no OTG-plugin).
Good to hear Matt!
Which OTG drive are you using? Maybe it's a pin-out problem on my particular drive.
No problems for me either. I'm using a Kingston 64GB DataTraveler microDuo 3C (with both USB C and USB A). I can confirm I can access its file directory with Solid Explorer and can play music stored on it with PowerAmp.
As far as I remember when I first connected it, I first tried to access it with Solid Explorer. I was initially directed to the Pixel's stock file explorer and had to make a selection there. After that the drive was fully accessible with Solid. Since then Solid and PowerAmp can access the OTG drive as soon as it's connected and I haven't been prompted to do anything in the stock file manager since.
However I'd like to add that I've since found an OTG drive isn't the same as having an SD card slot. I originally hoped that I could relocate all my music files to the external drive to keep lots of space free on the Pixel (32GB version). Although that is possible, PowerAmp takes about 7 minutes to scan and build its music library (6,000+ HE-AACv2 tunes) whenever I connect the OTG drive, so it's not exactly a fast and seamless alternative to keeping music in internal storage. The drive also gets quite hot when it's being accessed, and I'm not sure if it consumes a lot of power to run.

Exact same problem for me. I only have 32 XL and would love to use OTG drive, but only system file browser sees it.
You sure its not because you are trying to read exFAT? Pixel cant see exFAT.
